Import from Powerpoint to Captivate 1.0

I'm trying to simply automate a series of Power Point slides
in Captivate. My company has a standard slide format that has
footers with clear text on a colured background. Although the slide
content comes in clearly the footers are blurred, the characters
seemingly merging.
I ideally wanted 800x600 for best web look, but have tried
1024 x768 but the image still appears blurred. I think I have tried
every setting of properties. Any ideas?

Hi steve10150 and welcome to our community
Perhaps an old post from one of our former Adobe Community

very common complaint.

When importing PPT slides to a movie, can I stretch the slide
to fit the Captivate movie frame? I see nothing in help.
In an existing movie, I import PPT slides but there is a
white edge on the left & right sides of the frame.

redvic,
It sounds like you have a slight mismatch between the aspect
ratios of your Captivate movie and the PowerPoint presentation. It
strikes me that you could either try 1) using "File > Page
Setup" in PPT to change the aspect ratio of your PPT and then do a
manual capture/import operation into Captivate of the selected
slides, or else 2) if a straight manual capture would not produce a
scalability problem for the slide in Captivate, you could use the
PPT splitter bars to resize the thumbnail image in Normal view to
whatever you need and then manually capture the slide, taking care
to crop the slide top and bottom to get the aspect ratio the way
you need. Hopefully someone else can suggest a more elegant
solution - good luck!

Hi,
Thanks, your first suggestion worked! I did not know I could
do a custom-sized PPT slide. I did File > Page Setup and chose
"Custom" for Slides sized for field. Then, I specified the height
and width of the slides based on the size of my existing Captivate
project. For this, I had to convert pixels of the Captivate project
to inches in PPT. I divided the pixels dimensions by 72 and got the
approximate inches. For example, 798x546 in Captivate converted to
11.1" x 7.6" in PPT.

Hi,
A caveat to this solution: When I switched to a Custom sized
PPT slide size, PowerPoint automatically adjusted the font sizes,
too. For example, I increased the width of the PPT slide a little
bit and my 24 pt Heading font became 26 pt. Our corporate standard
is 24 pt. So, I had to go into the slides and adjust the font sizes
back to the corporate standards.

  • Can I add a button in Captivate 5 imported from PowerPoint?

I have imported a PowerPoint into Captivate and added a button.  When the user clicks the button, it is supposed to open a URL.  When I publish the movie,  nothing happens when I click the button.  I have tried this on a few different computers.  I also tried inserting a blank slide into Captivate and adding the button to that slide, and nothing happens.  I have verified that I can add a similar button to a Captivate presentation that is not comprised of PowerPoint slides.
Should I be able to do this?
    Thanks.

I'm sorry I was not clear.
I imported a PowerPoint into Captivate.  The hyperlink that worked in PowerPoint does not work when I publish the new Captivate file.
I then add a button from Captivate's menus.  The action on the button is to go to a URL.
When I publish the Captivate file and click "yes" to view the output, I click on the button and nothing happens.
I hope this is clear.  Thanks for responding.

  • Slides imported from PowerPoint have resolution degradation

Any idea why slides I import from a PowerPoint file to
Captivate 3 look fuzzy? Whether I have simple text or use SmartArt
or especially graphics in my PowerPoint slides, the imported slides
are no where near as sharp as the slides I create within Captivate.
The "slide movies" I create while recording in Captivate are razor
sharp, but everything I import from Powerpoint does not look sharp
    - some is barely passable, some is OK, some is pretty crappy -
    depending on the font sizes.
My boss wants to create a training session based on some
PowerPoint slides which contain a few graphics but mostly bulletted
lists, and then intersperse that with some recorded screens to show
movements of cursors and which buttons are clicked in the
    application, etc.
I've got a nice presentation put together, about 100 slides
total (which is a bit large, I understand) but can't figure out why
the PowerPoint slides are generally "fuzzy". I've tried importing
as a background image versus animation (no animation in the slides)
    to no avail.
    Thanks for your time...
    Charlie

    Welcome to our community, Charlie
PowerPoint is intended to be played at full screen. When you
import it into Captivate, you are forcing it into a smaller size.
Hence a bit of "fuzziness" or distortion. There are different
things you might wish to try.
    * Configure PowerPoint to play in a window. Then use
Captivate to record the PowerPoint as it plays. That would result
    in crystal clear recording.

  • Importing from powerpoint...508 compliance issues

Accessibility is important to my agency but importing from powerpoint results in slides a screen reader can't read and the image tags identified in the powerpoint don't show up in published projects.  Subject matter experts create the content, I put them in captivate 5.5 to add features and make them play with my LMS (SCORM).  Adobe says published SCORM projects are 508 compliant but I can't seem to get them to actually BE compliant.  Any ideas?  I don't see anything in any of the tutorials or available documentation or from iconlogic.

    Hi newcd,
I just read the VPat for SQL Server 2008 R2. I do not see where there are accessibility issues for the PDF format. Can you please explain?

  • Text Quality when Importing from PowerPoint

We're having to do a certain amount of importing from PowerPoint for productivity reasons.  Some slides show good imported text and some slides show really scraggy text.  I can't find any pattern behind this behaviour and have tried lots of different settings to try to get to the bottom of the issue.
Has anybody else encountered this?  More's the point, has anybody else encountered it and managed to find out how to get consistently good text?

We're using Captivate 7.  The powerpoint files are .pptx, either 2007 or 2010.
    Standard Arial system font.
I don't know how the SMEs are creating the PowerPoint content, but I've tried it using both Powerpoint placeholders in the standard Office theme, and using inserted text boxes, and they all import and view just fine.  There doesn't seem to be any pattern to when the text goes scraggy.

  • CP8: import from powerpoint - retain individual objects on slide

I did an import from PowerPoint and chose high fidelity, but it's still just importing the slide as one object, so I can't manipulate any of the objects on the screen. I thought each shape would import as a smart shape that I could manipulate individually. Is there a way to make this happen?

Indeed, nothing has changed about import, you will not have individual objects. High Fidelity means that animations etc will play more accurately. Captivate is not a PPT-plug in as a lot of users seem to think. There are real plug-ins around if you think a PPT can make a good eLearning course (you feel I'm not convinced that a presentation tool is an eLearning tool, sorry for that).

  • Hyperlinks dont work in captivate 6 , when created using import from powerpoint 2013

We are  trying to create a captivate presentation by importing a powerpoint presentation that has hyperlinks in it. However, it seems that the hyperlinks don't work when the project is published as a swf file. When you mouse over the hyperlink, the mouse changes the cursor to a hand, but when you click it, nothing happens ? Anyone had the same problem ?

If you are testing this locally, perhaps you need to configure the Flash Player Trusted Location settings?

  • Hyperlinks don't work when importing from PowerPoint

When importing a file from PowerPoint, the hyperlinks on the slide work when in preview mode, but they do not work when the file is published except for when published as a pdf file.  Is this a common problem?

    Hi there
I didn't think Hyperlinks survived the trip from the PowerPoint universe to Captivate. But things probably changed with Captivate 4.
It could be that you are seeing the Flash Player silently blocking your linking. If that's the case, following what is outlined at the tutorial linked below should help.

  • Unable to import MS PowerPoint slides Captivate 6 on Mac

I have an existing project which I imported two PowerPoint slides into without a problem. I then made changes to the slides in PowerPoint, and when I went to re-import to Captivate, I get this pop-up message:
This is on Mac OS X 10.8.3. I open the same project/PowerPoint presentation on Windows 7, and I am able to import without a problem. The only thing I can think that has changed on the Mac platform is a recent update to the Microsoft Office 2011 for Mac.
    Is this a known issue?
    Thanks.

Sorry to pop in, but was looking at the first screenshot: the chosen resolution is probably not the native resolution of your PPT, moreover you unchecked 'maintain aspect ratio'. Did you ever try to import the PPT at its native resolution, or at least when choosing another to keep the width/height ratio the same? Personally I would not recommend to create a project with another resolution. One of the features that is to me the most annoying in PPT (I avoid using it) is that you have to define the size in a print measuring unit like in or cm (in my case) which is totally crazy for an application that aims at presentations that will be given on a screen where the unit is always pixels. Captivate will translate the PPT-resolution to pixels and propose it, is there a reason why you don't want to use that? If necessary you can always rescale the project in Captivate later on (not recommended neither because of the quality loss).

  • Can't edit slide imported from PowerPoint in Cap 5.5

Hi - I'm running Windows XP.  I've created a new project from a PowerPoint (PPT) presentation (imported .ppt file, although it may have been originally created as pptx).  For the Advance Slide option I selected Automatically, and I unchecked the Linked checkbox.  I have successfully imported additional PPT slides into the project file, and I have been able to use the text to speech conversion option to create audio narration for several slides, so the project file seems to be working as usual, and is not overly large (only about 6 mb).  I can also open the temporary PPT editing environment and make changes to an imported slide by using right-click and selecting Edit with Microsoft PowerPoint/Edit Slide.  But after I click the Save button in the temporary editing window, I never return to the Captivate project file window - Captivate hangs up.  I've waited as long as ten minutes before using Task Manager to end the process.  Does anyone have any thoughts about what can cause this, and/or what I am doing wrong?  I have already uninstalled a trial version of Articulate (before uninstalling it, I was not able to import additional PPT slides into my project, but uninstalling didn't fix the editing issue).  I suppose I could work around this problem by importing corrected slides into the project file and deleting the originals I'm replacing, but I'd like to be able to get this to work right if possible.  Thanks.

I didn't use it because of comments I've read by developers who've had problems with the Linked function.  You don't need to select the Linked function to edit an imported slide in Captivate, though, do you?  I thought unlinked slides were imported into the project library, and that you can edit them there.  Have I misunderstood how this works?

  • How to improve JPG Resolution in FCP importing from PowerPoint?

Hi.  I've successfully saved my PowerPoint presentation as a folder full of JPG files and imported that folder into Final Cut Pro.  But when I drop these jpg's into the timeline and export the project to .mov, the result is pixelated images, low-quality text and terrible looking photographs embedded into the PowerPoint slides that looked good in PowerPoint.
At what point do I adjust the resolution?  Where and how do I do that?

    Dear Nick Holmes,
Thanks for your highly technical explanations!
May I trouble you for further detail?
    > DV is a highly compressed codec. Work in a ProRes timeline instead.
"DV"?  Digital video?  How do I "work in a ProRes timeline"?  Is that a setting in FCP?
    >Dpi is a print concept, it means nothing in video. In the NTSC TV format, you only ever have 720x480 pixels, regardless of screen size.
Very good to know and understand.
    >Set your Field Dominance to None.
Please tell me where to find this function.
    >Fully render the Sequence.
Don't judge quality based on what you see in the Canvas -it's a low res proxy used to show the flow of your story.
I'm looking at the exported .mov in Quicktime.
    >Your export codec will be determined by the playback mechanism. A DVD is highly compressed. If you can playback from your computer it can stay in ProRes.
Should I dig around for an LCD projector adaptor that undoubtedly came with my MacBook Pro?  Or is that something I'll have to purchase?
    >You might consider rebuilding the slides to better suit video playback -avoid small Serif typfaces, for example.
Rebuild them in PowerPoint, you mean?

  • Is there a way to import a theme from Powerpoint so that it becomes a theme in Captivate 7

I have a powerpoint theme that I'd like to use for my captivate eLearning. Is it possible to import this theme so that I can quickly apply it to my captivate projects?

    Hello Kurt,
    Welcome to Adobe Forums,
I don't think that you will be able to import the themes from Powerpoint in Captivate.
As the extension in which themes are saved in powerpoint is (.thmx) and Captivate doesn't provide any option to import .thmx file

  • Captivate 6 Created from PowerPoint - flicker issue

I am using Adobe Captivate 6.0.1.240, and my employer (State of Idaho) is working out the details with Adobe of paying for subscription service to the eLearning Suite.
However, right now I am finishing a project that was imported from PowerPoint 2010, and I have the flicker happening at the beginnings of any slides with animation.
I understand that a patch is available for subscription customers that would fix this issue and bring my version to Captivate 6.1.0.319.
Is there any way that I can get a fix to this problem in advance?
Having the users click “next” on each slide is not a good solution in this course. I really want the users to have the TOC available (which they will not if I have to import my audio to PPT and save it as a .wmv). And I will be hard-pressed to recreate the project in Captivate before the go-live date.
I have to say that the only reason this was created in PowerPoint to begin with is that we anticipated delivering it live via webinar and a last-minute decision has me converting it to eLearning.
    Thank you,

  • PowerPoint to Captivate

I have a finished PowerPoint that I have imported into
Captivate. The animations have been created in PowerPoint but I now
want to add audio. Can I input the audio in Captivate and sync the
audio with the animation in Captivate or should I import the audio
in PowerPoint and then import to Captivate. I did not see a way to
adjust individual lines of text once they are brought in from
    PowerPoint…Is this correct.
Another thought was to recreate the entire thing in Captivate
although that would mean some rework so I’d like to avoid
    this if possible.

    Welcome to our community, Rich
After you import from PowerPoint, nothing is actually
editable in Captivate. You may certainly add audio, but that will
be on the tricksy side to get it synced to the animation. Also,
audio doesn't survive the trip from PowerPoint to Captivate.
Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but you are probably
better off re-creating in Captivate if that's your goal.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Subsequent animations from powerpoint 03 import not playing in .exe

    Hello,
I am using Captivate 4 and have imported several slides from powerpoint 03.  When I publish to a .exe file, the first bullet animations work, but the subsequent bullet animations do not occur.  When I watch inside the edit view in Captivate, all animations are working perfectly...it's only upon publishing to .exe for review.  I'm concerned they won't play when published to LMS.  My coworker said that she had seen something about this in Captivate 3, but to search the forums for an answer...I can't find one on here.  I hope you can help, thank you!

NM, I figured it out!  The menu button objects were set to pause, which was pausing my animations halfway through since the animations were longer from slide to slide.
