Import from Sony HDR-SR5?

i love imovie and always use it with my Sony HDR-SR5 and it works seamlessly, but today whenever i tried to import my videos to my computer it would "unexpectedly" close and i tired it multiple times, and reported it to apple. Any suggestions?
Please help!

I'm having the same problem with certain clips imported from my Sony HDR-SR5. While importing certain clips, iMovie "unexpectedly quits". Sometimes I can import those same clips that shut down iMovie, but when they do import successfully, they are very jittery.
Any solutions? Is it iMovie or the camera?
Thanks.

  • IMovie HD won't import from Sony HDR-HC1

iMovie HD 5.0.2 (111) on my G5 desktop controls, but won't import from, my new little Sony HDR-HC1 1080i DV camcorder. Same was the case with my 12" 1 GHz PowerBook until, at the advice of a Manhattan Beach Genius Bar tech, I did an archive reinstall of 10.4 and a reinstall of iMovie HD on both my G5 PowerMac and G4 PowerBook and then downloaded all the updates. Now my PowerBook works, but my PowerMac still won't import. On an empty second HD in my PowerMac I installed OS 10.4 and iMovie HD ONLY (to create as sterile as possible of an environment), made the 2nd HD my startup drive, and still iMovie HD on my PowerMac will not import from this camera (although it will from an older Sony VX-1000 regular def camcorder).
Does anybody have any solutions, or any idea why iMovie HD now imports on my PowerBook but after the same makeover still won't on my PowerMac?
Per earlier posts, I tried playing some piano notes in Garage Band, trashing the iMovie preference files, and reinstalling QuickTime (the tech had heard QT 7.0.3 could be at fault from becoming corrupted in certain updating combinations), all to no avail.
    HELP!
    PowerMac G5 2 x 2.67 GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

I have had import/capture problems using FW drives with FCE/iMovie5 and my 2gig iMac. My canon GL2 works fine but only when no other FW devices are connected to the FW port I use the computers internal drive to capture. If your using the G5's internal SATA drives this (below) may not apply.

Some G5 users have had to purchase a FW PCI card or have the G5 front FW port replaced. Check this link.

  • HELP- importing from sony hdr-ch7

i just got a sony hdr-hc7. when i import to i-moive the sound does not match up with the video. it works fine when you watch it on the camera but when it gets imported it gets off...
    any ideas?

    Welcome Christian:
    Does this help?
Details are on page 58 upper left corner of your HC7 manual: In the HC7 settings make sure you have i.Link -> DV conversion turned off if iMovie is set to HD. (Conversely, make sure the DV conversion is on if iMovie is working in DV. That is, just make sure your streams are matching formats.)
Given they do what you recommend first Michael, I think some may also not understand:
    1. Must have iMovie 6 OPEN
    2. Plus the camera must be ON
    3. Plus camera must be in VCR mode.
    4. Then Plug In The FireWire
    5. In iMovie preferences AND the HC7 make sure the settings are coordinated with the settings Michael lists above. Nothing will work if they are not.
    6. Make sure your iMovie MODE is switched to the camera position. That's the little slider that has a camera icon on the left and a pair of scissors icon on the right. Without that toggle switched to the left next to the camera icon communication is impossible (as the Japanese like to say).
    7. In that mode you will see a blue screen with the words "Camera Attached" in white in the middle of it. Your time code will appear in the upper right corner. (If not you will see the words "No Camera Attached" with a button for "Connection Help" that will launch Apple's own help file including links to other pages that can help as well.)
    7. Press play in iMovie and you will see the stream playing from the camera.
    8. Press the "Import" button and it will begin to copy the stream to your Movie Folder.

  • Problems importing from sony HDR FX7

    hi forum.
i'm having problems importing audio from my camera into i-movie.
during import there is no sound coming from my computer, but there is sound coming from my camera. after import when i play back the clip i just imported, the sound is morphed. its like the pitch has been turned down in the audio file, except no effect has been done on it.
if anyone out there has a similar problem, or a soulution please let me know as i am ready to throw my mac out the window!
    john lawlor

OK i think i get what you are saying but....
will the cound correct itself while it in in imovie. in other words will i be able to edit and listen to the audio as it is supposed to be?
what concerns me it that after i noticed this probem, i tried exporting it as a quicktime file, thinking that the wound would be OK, but after it finished exporting, the quicktime file was exactly the same. the sound was morpehd on it also.
could it be the settings on my camera?

  • Trouble importing from Sony HDR-CX160

Yesterday bought a new camera.  Used instructions found on-line to import movies from the camera directly to I-Movie.  Yesterday worked like a charm, today I receive an "error" message that I do not understand.
I am using two different versions of IMovie, 09, 8.0.6 on my Imac and Imovie '11 9.0.4 on my Mac Air.  Of course my problem is no videos imported.
The sequence that I am using is to open Imovie, connect USP, start camera, select USB connect on camera.
When I do this Iphoto opens which I understand to be part of the transfer process.  Device shows up, but there are no photos or movies to import.  The screen above is on my IMAC with '09.  The following shot is on my MacBook Air with '11.
Anyone have a clue?  I will return the camera, but I don't think this is a camera issue.

On your camera, when you download the files in your STREAM folder they are called MTS files.
When you connect via the USB wire (it will give you that option in the camera's view window), click on "Connect USB" then on your Mac desktop it will show a harddrive called "NO NAME"
You click on that and go to
AVCHD>BDMV>STREAM> then any file which ends with .MTS you click and drag into your computer's hard drive or where you are storing the editable movie files.
You must then convert these into .dv (or an FCE friendly movie file format) by using this:
    http://www.iskysoft.com/user-guide/video-converter-mac.html
It takes the MTS file and converts them easily.
Otherwise the Mac won't read the MTS files.
You then take the .dv (or converted) files to import into FCE

  • Does IMovie 11 support GPS importing from Sony HDR-XR550VE camcorder?

All files downloaded OK and no problems with projects etc. GPS is always enabled on the camcorder, however, IMovie dies not seem to recognise it. I have searched in help topics in IMovie 11 but cannot find anything in relation to 'places", "locations", "GPS" etc. Can someone assist? Thank you.

iMovie does not recognize GPS metadata. This is not a feature of iMovie.
The only place you can use GPS data is in the Maps feature, and you enter the coordinates yourself.

  • IMovie won't fully upload from Sony HDR-SR5

I have the camera hooked up via the USB and it starts to download the pictures, but about 1/3 of the way through it just stops uploading the movie.
    any help out there?
    Thanks,
    Todd

I have the SR8, same camera as you with a different HD. I have no issues uploading.
Do you have the power cord plugged in while uploading. your drive in the mac isn't full is it.

  • Problem with importing movies from my Sony HDR-SR5

Having trouble importing movies from my Sony HDR-SR5. The computer is reading HD camcorder but Iphoto is coming up and not Imovie. I don't have any still pics and SD movies. When I go into imovie camcorder does not show up. Any suggestions?

Did your "Camcorder" ever worked with iMovie? If so, what version were your running?
What version of iMovie are you currently running: iMovie 8.0.5 or iMovie 8.0.6?
What version of the OS are you currently running: 10.6.2 or 10.6.3?

  • IMovie '09 Won't Import HD Content from Sony HDR-SR11 Camcorder

    Hi,
iMovie stopped importing HD content from Sony HDR-SR11 camcorder. It only recognizes the standard definition content in the preview thumbnails. Previously this used to work with both a FireWire cable and a Mini USB. All of a sudden it doesn't import HD clips. There's no plugin failure either, because I reinstalled iMovie '09.
    System Specifications:
    Intel iMac 20" (Late 2008)
    Intel Core 2 Duo@ 2.4 GHz.
    4 GB RAM
    Snow Leopard (10.6.4)
    Thanks!

With this camera you must erase the SD clips from the camera before you can import the HD clips.

  • Importing footage from sony HDR-SR12 to External for later use in imovie?

Hi all, I have a question, I would like to save my movie footage which is on my sony HDR-SR12 to a external drive(G Raid1TB) so I can view and also import clips to imovie for making movie's later. I have partitioned the Ext HD 150gb for photos and 781gb for movie footage. Just out of curiosity I mounted my camera and pressed get info and the format on the sony camera is MS-Dos(fat32) does this matter at all?  Also which is the best way or how do I  import the footage from sony hdr-sr12 to the external Hd. I have never done this before so your help would be greatly appreciated, I don't want to mess up.
    Thank You
    Jess

I should have mentioned, it is a good idea to make an archive copy of your AVCHD footage before importing. You should be able to do this from the FILE menu in iMovie. This will preserve the AVCHD files exactly as they were on the camera.
When you import, you convert the AVCHD files (which are highly compressed) into Apple Intermediate Codec, which is suitable for editing.
If you want to make sure that your archive copy is working properly, you can import from your archive copy, rather than importing directly from the camera. This is a good way to make sure you have a good archive copy before erasing the video on the camera.

  • How do I import movies from sony HDR PJ200

How do I import movies from sony HDR PJ200?

hi, if your movies are recorded in AVCHD formats, they are not supported by iMovie so far. So, to make the conversion seems to be the best choice now. Except the brorsoft suggested by emmalucky, Video Mate also fits your mac well. IMovie accepted video formats includs .DV, .MOV, .MPEG-4, .M4V、H.264, .AIC. So, you can convert your movies to above video formats. Hope this help.

  • I have a sony HDR-SR5 camcorder and need to empty the iternal hard-drive. I have downloaded onto Picture Motion Browser and woud like to know if this will have stored all of the data on the hard-drive so can go back and edit later.

I have a Sony HDR-SR5 camcorder with a 40GB internal hard-drive. I need to clear the hard-drive as it's almost full. I have managed to download the footage onto Picture Motion Browser, but am wondering whether PMB will have stored all the info from the camcorder hard-drive so that I can edit later.
Also, I would like to back-up on another hard-drive, but when I have tried this I can't view the footage stored on the hard-drive so am not sure whether I have backed up sufficiently and in what format? If anyone can point me in the right direction, I'd be very grateful...

    >I have managed to download the footage onto Picture Motion Browser
Isn't Picture Motion Browser available for Windows only?  If so, why are you posting in an Final Cut Express forum?  My apologies if I'm incorrect.

  • Can't import from Sony XDCAM memory card to FCP 6

I can't import from Sony XDCAM memory card to FCP 6.01 HD. Am using Macbook Pro, 2 gig of RAM. This is my first time NOT using tape. I can copy the files off the memory card onto an external drive (to free up the card for pro crew's next day's shoot), but can't import either to FCP. Do I need to convert the files in some way before FCP can read them? Need to fix this problem fast as the crew are off to Nepal for 2 week shoot.

    Laura,
First, I'm assuming that you're referring to the XDCAM EX. You'll need to install the FCP 6.0.2 upgrade, which contains the XDCAM EX codecs.
Second, You'll need to install the PDZK-P1 Transfer Application, and use that to import your EX clips into FCP. I just noticed that there is a new version available, 2.5.1 which is labeled specifically for Tiger/Leopard. I haven't tested this version yet, and will report back on any stability issues. We're currently running version 2.1.1, without many issues.

  • Importing from Sony DV into iMovie & getting Darker video image

Importing from Sony DV (Video quality looks great on video LCD screen) into iMovie & getting Darker video image. After I import into iMovie the video image is darker, making in harder to edit. I appreciate any help with understanding how I can improve the video quality when importing.
    Thank you

    Welcome to discussions!
You may just need to adjust your monitor.

Plus, it will look better on a TV than your monitor.
