Import from Sony QX1 ~ Stripes

Does anyone know why I am getting these stripes when I import from a mini SD card from the Sony QX1? I am assuming it is Lightroom as I don't get them in Aperture on my Mac. I am using Lightroom 5.7

These types of problems usually indicate a hardware problem. Perhaps a bad cable, or card reader, or a failing hard drive. The download process itself doesn't do anything to the image other than copy it from the camera or card reader.

  • Can't import from Sony XDCAM memory card to FCP 6

I can't import from Sony XDCAM memory card to FCP 6.01 HD. Am using Macbook Pro, 2 gig of RAM. This is my first time NOT using tape. I can copy the files off the memory card onto an external drive (to free up the card for pro crew's next day's shoot), but can't import either to FCP. Do I need to convert the files in some way before FCP can read them? Need to fix this problem fast as the crew are off to Nepal for 2 week shoot.

    Laura,
First, I'm assuming that you're referring to the XDCAM EX. You'll need to install the FCP 6.0.2 upgrade, which contains the XDCAM EX codecs.
Second, You'll need to install the PDZK-P1 Transfer Application, and use that to import your EX clips into FCP. I just noticed that there is a new version available, 2.5.1 which is labeled specifically for Tiger/Leopard. I haven't tested this version yet, and will report back on any stability issues. We're currently running version 2.1.1, without many issues.

  • IMovie HD won't import from Sony HDR-HC1

iMovie HD 5.0.2 (111) on my G5 desktop controls, but won't import from, my new little Sony HDR-HC1 1080i DV camcorder. Same was the case with my 12" 1 GHz PowerBook until, at the advice of a Manhattan Beach Genius Bar tech, I did an archive reinstall of 10.4 and a reinstall of iMovie HD on both my G5 PowerMac and G4 PowerBook and then downloaded all the updates. Now my PowerBook works, but my PowerMac still won't import. On an empty second HD in my PowerMac I installed OS 10.4 and iMovie HD ONLY (to create as sterile as possible of an environment), made the 2nd HD my startup drive, and still iMovie HD on my PowerMac will not import from this camera (although it will from an older Sony VX-1000 regular def camcorder).
Does anybody have any solutions, or any idea why iMovie HD now imports on my PowerBook but after the same makeover still won't on my PowerMac?
Per earlier posts, I tried playing some piano notes in Garage Band, trashing the iMovie preference files, and reinstalling QuickTime (the tech had heard QT 7.0.3 could be at fault from becoming corrupted in certain updating combinations), all to no avail.

I have had import/capture problems using FW drives with FCE/iMovie5 and my 2gig iMac. My canon GL2 works fine but only when no other FW devices are connected to the FW port I use the computers internal drive to capture. If your using the G5's internal SATA drives this (below) may not apply.

Some G5 users have had to purchase a FW PCI card or have the G5 front FW port replaced. Check this link.

  • Import from sony camcorder

hi, i have a sony HD camcorder (HDR-350E) which isn't supported by FCE, but is by iMovie. So I imported my clips using iMovie, then dragged the files onto the project browser window in FCE. Is that the best way to import from iMovie? Or should I be doing it in some other way?
    Thanks

  • Dropped frames when importing from sony dcr-hc52

    hey all,
i'm getting a lot of dropped frames when importing from my sony cdr-hc52. anyone had this experience? is there a setting i'm missing that would correct this?
    thanks in advance,

Hello kellyfromkenley, Depending on how you move the video or share the video from iMovie to iDVD it can make a big difference. One way is to go to the Share Menu > Share to iDVD. But the better is to Share to Media Browser instead. Try this:
Go back to iMovie and open your Project in Project Library.
Go to Share Menu > Share to Media Browser
Choose the Large size and let it run until it finishes
    Quit iMovie and open iDVD.
In iDVD click on the Media Button, then click on the Movies button and look for your project under the iMovie star icon in the Media Browser itself.
Drag that project icon into the iDVD project window and burn another disk
I think you'll see an increase in the visual quality using this method.
The reason this has an effect on the visual quality is there's a whole different set of operations performed on the video when you first Share to Media Browser. The side effect of those changes in steps is a much better looking DVD from your iMovie project.

  • How can I import from Sony Hi-8 digital?

I want to import footage made on a Sony DCR-TRV103, but being as it's a 10+ yr old camcorder, it seems to be out of reach.  Any suggestions appreciated.

I should have clarified my situation: I HAVE one of these cameras.  The "out of reach" part refers to it not being on the list of video tape camcorders that FCP X is compatible with, which appears to be borne out by the app not seeing the FireWire-connected device when I try to import from my tapes.
Maybe there's an issue with the camcorder's FireWire, or another deficiency, I can't tell. But I can try to use an older setup, with FCP 5, which used to work.
Thanks for the thought, at any rate, and for any further ideas.

  • Import from Sony HDR-SR5?

i love imovie and always use it with my Sony HDR-SR5 and it works seamlessly, but today whenever i tried to import my videos to my computer it would "unexpectedly" close and i tired it multiple times, and reported it to apple. Any suggestions?
    Please help!

I'm having the same problem with certain clips imported from my Sony HDR-SR5. While importing certain clips, iMovie "unexpectedly quits". Sometimes I can import those same clips that shut down iMovie, but when they do import successfully, they are very jittery.
Any solutions? Is it iMovie or the camera?
    Thanks.

  • Import from Sony CCD TR96

I would like to import videos from my Sony CCD TR96 to iMovie 11 on my iMac.  What equipment do I need to make the connection?  Thanks.

I see from your other posts that you have a Sony TRV 22.
This model has Analogue to Digital passthrough. In other words it can convert analogue to digital.
Take the analogue output from the TR 96 and connect to the input of the TRV 22 using the phono and S video ports.Note these phono and Svideo ports on your TRV22 are used for both input and output so you have to select from the menu on your camera. You will need your TRV 22 user manual to set this up for passthrough mode.If you no longer have it you should be able to download from Sony.
When in passthrough mode connect firewire from TRV 22 to your Mac. Run camcorders on power not batteries.
Play your analogue tape on the TR 96 and you should see it in iMovie.

  • Iphoto 7.1.1 slow to import from sony dsc-w80

Anyone experience similar issues when importing pictures from sony dsc-w80 into iphoto? Sometimes it just spins and spins and spins. Is there any way to fix this?

Yes, same problem here. I have a Sony DSC T50 that worked fine on IPhoto 6 and Tiger. Upgraded to Leopard and iPhoto 7.1.1 and it's unusable with a Sony DSC Camera and my PPC Mac. Takes 30 seconds per image to import. Takes forever to read the 900 images on the camera.
Since the DSC worked fine with earlier versions of Apple OS and software, I have to blame Apple and not Sony for this problem.
If you are having the problem too, please use the Send Feedback menu in iPhoto to report the bug to Apple.

  • Importing from Sony mini DVD?

Brand new iMac and I cant insert the mini DVD from Sony Handycam camcorder since iMac only takes standard size dvd. It appears as if there is no other plug-in option, eg, firewire or usb port. Any suggestions? The Sony model is dcr-dvd 305 ... should I burn files from small dvd to large one? Will I lose quality? Bought this computer for ease of use and already frustrated...thanks!

If your camera is several years old, it is most certainly Mpeg2. If your DVD will play in a DVD player, it is almost certainly MPEG2. The alternatives are AVCHD which is a fairly recent format for high definition cameras, and dv which is uncompressed, and probably not used on your dvd. If you can open your dvd in the finder, you may be able to right-click, get info, and find out for sure.
If you are interested in a new camera, there are a lot of choices. The simplest choice is a standard definition miniDV tape camera that connects with firewire. If you go HD, there are mpeg2 cameras and AVCHD cameras in tape, DVD, flash memory, and hard drive formats.
Personally, I like the flash memory AVCHD, but others like the easy archival capability of tape.
See this Apple document for compatible camcorders.

  • IPhoto won't import from Sony memory stick reader...

I have successfully imported from Lexar firewire cf reader, but when I plugged in my USB memory stick reader - iphoto doesn't respond. I do see "MSAC-US1" in the hardware overview of system profiler - which is the reader. When i put in a full memory stick, the reader lights as if it is talking with the computer - but the stick doesn't mount on the desktop, iphoto ignores it completely, as does disk utility.
I just upgraded to the latest version of iphoto and am using a new intel iMac.
    Any help would be appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Eric
intel iMac, ibook   Mac OS X (10.4.5)   iphoto 6.02

I have the same problem. MSAC-US1, always worked before with iPhoto; I upgraded to a MacBook Pro, and now it doesn't work. The Access light momentarily lights up on the MSAC-US1, but the stick doesn't mount on the desktop. The device does show up in System Profiler, just as you noted.
It looks like the Intel version of the OS doesn't have support for this device - which is a huge problem, especially since it is listed as a device on the iPhoto Supported Devices page.
Apple, are you monitoring this discussion? Time to fix this bug!

  • Unable to import from Sony Mini DV DCR-HC46

I'm attempting to import video from a Sony Mini DV camcorder DCR-HC46 using a Sony iLink cable.
iMovie seems to recognize that the camera is attached and control it (clicking Import or Play will cause the camera to start playing). However though the camera is playing video iMovie window remains blank (blue).
I'm pretty sure that the cables are fine, since I was able to use them earlier with an old G4 power-book.
I've gone through all the suggestions in the Apple support page.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    I quote QuickTimeKirk:
”Open the Audio MIDI Setup application (Utilities folder).
Try changing the settings to 44100Hz (CD Quality) or to 48000Hz (typical of the iMovie formats).
Others call this the GarageBand fix. Opening GB also resets the Audio MIDI Setup.”
