Import Function in Elements11 is deleting RAW Originals

Since I recently purchased a camera that the manufactor released after I aquired Elements11, I downloaded the update for thr RAW converter.
A problem has occurred.  Eventhough I clicked the box in the Photo Downloader that says "After copying, do not delete originals" , the Import program deletes the RAW originals.  It does not delete the JPEG originals that were downloaded at the same time as their twin RAW images.
Any suggestions as to how to get the import program to stop deleting the RAW originals?

By default images already imported will not be shown in the importer. You can change this in Edit> Preferences> Camera or Card Reader.
In the Standard Dialog it will tell you just under the 'Get Photo's from' field how many were duplicates.
In the Advanced Dialog you can click the 'Show Duplicates' to see and select them again.
Note though that once they are in the Organizer it won't import them again. But if you select them again in the import dialog it WILL copy them again to your hard disk (appending a suffix to the original name). So be careful or you could end up with large numbers of duplicate RAW images eating up your disk space and invisible to the Organizer.
Cheers,
Neale

  • Search for a function module for deleting document originals (DMS)

    Hi,
I'm searching for a function module to delete originals in documents (like manually with transaction cv02n). I'm only able to set an delete mark with the module 'BAPI_DOCUMENT_DELETE'.
The module 'BAPI_DOCUMENT_CHANGE2' can only add new originals to an existing document. I need a possibility to delete all originals in an document without deleting the document itself.
    Has anyone an idea?
    Thanks.

  • How to delete RAW photo's from my DSLR imported to my iPad

I have previously connected my Canon DSLR to my iPad and when importing the files had the Camera Raw (.CR2) files copied over too.  I needed that to happen when I was a way from home, but now I am back I need to Erase them from my iPad.  I previously had a Windows laptop but now have a iMac.  The iPad does not show up as a drive to search and find these to Delete them on my iMac?

    Hi, SnappyChappy.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
Here are the steps that will walk you through the process of importing your photos and videos taken via a camera and imported via the iPad Camera Connection Kit.  Once these are imported, you will have the option to delete the photos from your iPad.

  • LR 1.2 Import Function - Shows Previously Imported Directories

I have 40,000 pictures I am trying to import into lightroom. I have 1500 left to go. The process I used has been:
    1. File:Import Photos from Disk
    2. I then select the main directory that has every photo I have taken or scanned. The directory structure is MAIN DIRECTORY/YEAR/EVENT.
LR scans all directories and runs its' comparison.
    3. The "problem with Importing Files" dialog box appears to let me know the following photos will not be imported because they already exist in catalog.
    a. Best I can tell it generally gets most of the files that have already been imported correct.
    5. I select IMPORT and I then get the dialog box import photos.
    a. It shows I have 44 folders left to import.
    b. At least 20 of them (I am guestimating) have already been imported.
    c. When I select a directory, for example. /Thanksgiving 2003, those photos appear correctly in the preview section.
    d. I know these have been imported already and are in my catalog. For giggles, I enter my keywords 2003,Thanksgiving and select IMPORT.
    e. I am using "IMPORT FILES AT THEIR CURRENT LOCATION", BTW.
    6. Sure enough, the dialog box appears:
    a. Import Results | Some import operations were not performed | The files already exist in the catalog (21).
    6. I want to NOT view those 20 directories whenever I run the IMPORT function.
    a. Also, there are a few directies that had 100 photos imported. The IMPORT CATALOG COMPARISON shows that there is 1 photo in a directory that hasn't been imported. Of course, it has, because when I try to import the one remainind item, is clearly shows as IN LIBRARY.
HERE IS THE IMPORTANT ISSUES, most of the directories are correctly being imported and then removed from the initial scan. I had hundreds of directories that are disappearing from the catalog comparison correctly. It is just these 20 or so that will not go away.
Needless to say, I would like to run import and have NO FILES or DIRECTORIES to import when I am completed this project.

Jao, as a general rule I always want to see exported jpegs or tiffs in LR library. My ideal is to not have to use the file browser in Windows to manage files. I want to know if I have jpeg or tiff versions of a raw file. Otherwise I might end up creating identical jpegs, when I receive a request for a particular file. Since my jpegs are created from raw files adjusted in LR's develop module, I have been considering deleting the jpegs after sending them to the client who requested them, that way I don't waste hard drive space on files that I can easily recreate. Even in this case, I would like to see them in LR, so that I can delete them after sending them to the client.
I create tiffs for two purposes. One is to edit in PS, which automatically gets recognized by LR. But some times I create tiffs that are used in assembling an HDR file. I want to see these in LR, otherwise I need to open the Windows file browser and navigate to the folder to see the tiffs.
I prefer to work in a single program so in general I would like LR to be able to recognize other file types such as Acrobat or InDesign files. The more the better as far as I am concerned. LR could have a preference that would allow turning off the display of other file types, so users who don't want this will not see them.

  • I  can't delete raw files in bridge

I can't delete raw files in bridge anymore. I used to and it worked. Now if I click delete button, nothing happens.

Adobe doesn't support CS5, an when I spoke to Apple, I was told that this is a known issue with OS 10.8.5 and that they're working on a patch.  In the meantime I'm using Adobe's DNG as a workaround.
Have not heard before of this Known Issue, also find it hard to believe being true. But can't test my self because I only have CS6 and CC installed and always use Photodownloader to convert to DNG upon import. I have just installed the 10.8.5 update and checked in Bridge CC pointing to an attached card reader. no problem in showing the CR2 thumbs, it works as always and as expected.
To my knowledge Bridge CS5 is already 64 bits and I can't think of any valid reason why an OS update would cause this problem so suddenly (but I'm not a technician I have to confess…)
However, I would first try a check and repair permissions from Apple Disk Utility and also try Cocktail (good and cheap 3th party maintenance application for Mac) to clear caches and check permissions.
Also try a new user account just for testing to rule out your current account as the culprit.

  • Aperture 3: Deleting raw files and making the jpeg my new master-

Aperture 3 has made some great strides in making the following possible ( I posted this originally in 2007):
What I'd like to do is shoot everything in raw + jpg, and then keep the raw files only for the important shots.
I really like having the option of raw processing, but the storage demands are very heavy. If I could just make a selection of photos in a roll, and have a command to delete any unneeded raw files from the selected photos, while keeping the original jpgs as master, that would be great.
Also, it would be great to be able to manipulate a raw file, and then when I'm satisfied with the image, to render a high-quality jpg from that raw file & make the jpg the new master, and then delete the raw file to free up disk space.
Basically, I want the raw file safety net for everyday images, without gobbling up gigabytes of disk space <<<<<
With Aperture 3, I can finally change the master to the jpg file, which solves part of the problem. But I still want to be able to manipulate my raw file, and render a new high-quality jpg master.
Why don't Aperture / Lightroom do this? To me at least, it seems an obvious feature.

I had a chance to talk to product managers from both Apple & Adobe about this at PhotoPlus Expo in NYC a couple years back. Both seemed receptive, but here we are - years later - no progress.
I think part of the problem is that there's a purist mentality about RAW files. One should always shoot them - and then keep them forever- after all- they're your negatives!
But what about event photography? Or weddings, as you pointed out? It makes no sense to burden your workflow & backup system with 4GB of RAW files of people grinning into the camera. Once the adjustments have been made, the RAW files are just a ball & chain on your data management. And let's not forget, once you really know what you're doing, your jpegs should be good most of the time anyway.
I want RAW files as a safety net for errors in exposure and white balance. Once I know I have good photos, I don't need the safety net anymore- at least not at the price of all that hard disk space and transfer time for online backup. Of course, for my fine art stuff and important documentary work, I'll always keep the RAWs permanently. But not for routine parties/events.
You put your finger on the problem with re-importing jpegs as a solution. You lose your metadata- rankings/album memberships, etc. This is no solution!
What I want is simple, and it would be immediately useful to countless photographers:
    1) Let me batch-delete RAW files when the jpegs are ok.
    2) Let me do adjustments on my RAW file, render out a high-quality jpeg, and make the jpeg my new master.
Whoever does this first - Aperture or Lightroom - that's the product I'll use.

  • Disable auto import function?

I want to disable the auto import function in iTunes, but can not find the setting.
My problem is I download a new song into a temp directory, immediately iTunes opens and imports the song into the iTunes library. I DO NOT want iTunes to import the song at this time. I want to move the song to my MP3 folder first.
This is a real pain because I have to first delete the song from iTunes then move the song file, then import the song again from the MP3 folder. If anyone knows a way around this please let me know.
    Thanks!

  • How to have iPad (iOS 5) import only the JPEG from a RAW JPEG pair?

I have an iPad 2 16 GB, running iOS 5. I also have a Canon EOS 7D. I purchased a CF Card Reader for the iPad (see http://store.micgadget.com/card-readers/280-ipad-2-cf-card-camera-connection-kit .html) so that I can view and edit photos quickly in the field, without having to lug my laptop around. To make this easier, I set my camera to shoot RAW+JPEG. I shoot with the smallest JPEG files possible, still a relatively large for the iPad 2,592x1,728, with the idea that I'd only import the JPEG files to the iPad, but still have the RAW files to work with when I get back to my computer. This works great with one exception: the iPad doesn't allow me to import only the JPEG files, but grabs the RAW files along with them. As you can imagine, this fills up my iPad rather quickly, and takes quite a bit longer to import than if it only grabbed the JPEGs.
So here is my question: How do I have my iPad import only the JPEGs from the RAW+JPEG pairs on the memory card?
One workaround that helps slightly. If I connect my iPad to my computer after the import, I can go in via Image Capture, select all the RAW images and delete them, leaving the JPEGs behind. This is an underwhelming solution, but does save space after the fact.

What you are seeing is how Safari works now in iOS 5. There is no way to get that icon in Safari now. There other much better browsers available in the App Store. Look at iCab Mobile, Mercury, Atomic, ....
I have been running iOS 5x for so long now, that I don't even remember if that icon did appear in earlier iOS versions

  • Import Function - Modification

    Hi,
I would like to change the import function or create a new
    one.
What I want, is that when I choose to import "Objects" from
another Captivate File, it imports all the objects except the
    "Image objects".
Is there a way to do that ?
How is it possible to modify the function or add a new one ?
Does a documentation explain to explain how to add functions
    to Captivate ?
Thanks a lot for your help.
    /Cedric

    Hi Cedric
Hmmm, so it would seem you do things like I often do! I often
create projects starting from a blank canvas and just paste things
    in as I need them.
I'm guessing it may be too tedious to visit each slide,
right-click the "background" images and choose "Merge into
background" for each one. No? (That would be my initial gut
    reaction advice)
    Other ways... hmmm...
I'm guessing here that you may be using Captivate 2? If so,
you may well be in luck! I just created a three slide project. Had
nothing but images and captions. Saved that puppy and created a new
blank project. I then imported just the objects from the old
project. After I did that, I located the undesired image in the
library panel and deleted it. As I expected, Captivate advised the
image was being used on slides 1, 2 and 3 and asked if I was sure.
I patted Captivate on its head and reassured it that the world
wouldn't end for me if it deleted the image. Poof! The unwanted
    images disappeared from the slides.
    Maybe this helps?
    I hope so... Rick

  • Trying to export RAW originals from Aperature 3 to LightRoom 4: I choose File Export Originals. I think then Pictures LR. But then I can't find files in LR library.Files seem stuck in Pictures as NEF

Trying to export RAW originals from Aperature 3 to LightRoom 4: I choose File>Export>Originals. Then Pictures>LR. But then I can't find files in LR library.Files seem stuck in Pictures as NEF and or DNG files. I know Im stuck on something dumb but I am stuck. Help?

You now need to import those files into Lightroom.
BTW, Lightroom uses a "referenced" system so your images will always be in the folders you download/copy them to. Lightroom is a database first and foremost, albeit with non-destructive editing capabilities (effectively Adobe Camera Raw).

  • Deleting raw picture files from my Ipad selectively

My camera kit imports Jpg and raw files from my digital camera. I need an app to delete the raw files while keeping the Jpg files. Both set of files have the same name, it is only the extension that differ.

Thank you for your reply. I understand now that I need an app to import my JPG pictures leaving the raws on the camera.
Do you know of such an app?

  • Useless Contact Import Function

A suggestion for the next version of PC Suite ...
The inclusion of a real import function would be nice.
Only required fields would be FirstName, LastName, PhoneNo.
    Period.
This function should be able to take only a minimal amount of field names and transfer them to the phone without all the other junk in a .CSV format or even better yet TSV.
So far I've wasted more time and drive space on a utility that does not work correctly. I do NOT use Outlook, I don't need it to sync anything (that is what the usb drivers are for). While the sync feature is nice I'd like to disable it. I'd rather copy it myself.
I have spent the last 31 years of my professional programming career on developing software and this is by far the worst software that I have seen. It violated programming 101 to the max. You have certainly taken making a phone call to a new level indeed.

    Not exactly all.

  • Import function is blocked. Can this be changed with a security setting?

I want to import bookmarks that I saved from old computer. When I go to File in the menu bar, the import is blocked (shaded white). How can I activate the import function?

Do you have an HTML or JSON backup from that old computer?
    See:
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/Backing_up_and_restoring_bookmarks_-_Firefox
Make sure that the backup file with the bookmarks has the correct file extension: .html for a HTML backup and .json for a JSON backup.<br />
You can check that via the right-click context menu of that file and open the Properties.<br />
If you are not sure about the file type then you can open the file in Firefox via "File > Open File"<br />
A JSON backup will show as one long text line without line breaks and a HTML backup as a web page with clickable links.
A JSON backup starts with: <nowiki>{"title":"","id":1,"dateAdded":</nowiki>
An HTML backup starts with: <nowiki><!DOCTYPE NETSCAPE-Bookmark-file-1></nowiki>
You may need to add quotes ("bookmarks.xxxx") around the name to rename the file to the correct file extension.
