Import graphics that don't need to be rendered?

Is there a graphic format for stills that I can bring into FC4.5 without having to render on the time line? I’m importing folders full of stills (screen grabs) to create narrated slideshows, and having to re-render every time I shift a transition point...boring!
Thanks!
dc

Interesting; so might I select a different codec until I’m done editing and ready to export, then switch back to Animation?
Ultimately, I’m knocking the file down with Squeeze, exporting as QT using “Current Settings,” and getting beautiful results with tiny files, at 6 fps. Btw, the imported graphics are the same size as the project.
Appreciate the comments.

Is there a way to set up final cut express to default to the proper settings so that 1920 x 1080 h.246 mov files don't have to be rendered when dropped onto the timeline? It is really not efficient to work on something when it takes hours to render. Thanks

    Thanks Tom,
Is it the same in fcs? Or does fcs have the capacity to import without render to timeline?

  • What are some fun, free games that don't need Wi-Fi?

I'm going on a trip soon and won't have access to Wi-Fi. Most of my games that I have on my iPod Touch right now need Wi-Fi. can anyone tell me what some good games are that are free and don't need Wi-Fi?

Get puzzle games. Flow free is a very addictive game where you must connect two points of the same color without crossing other paths. Another fun puzzle game is cross fingers-that one doesnt need a explanation .
as for more puzzle i would recommend:
    Jumbline
    Line Up
Rise of atlantis(not sure if free....)
    Action:
    iGibbets
    Glow hockey 2
    Grapes on a plate
    Stick stunt biker
Check the app store before you go! itll help alot trust me.
    Hava a good trip!

  • List 3rd party Wi-Fi apps that don't need ANY data plan

so far, the only one I know of is Live Search
    you can download it here
(note: in Options, network configuration parameters must be changed to "Direct HTTP" instead of "default" and check "Use only WiFi interface")
I can't use BlackBerry's "Maps", because I don't have a data plan;  however, the "Traffic" & "Maps" of Live Search is a great alternative!
if you know of other 3rd party Wi-Fi apps that don't require ANY data plan (APN, BES, MDS, IPPP for BIBS, WAP, etc.), post them here.
    thanks!

  • Importing files that do not need transcoding?

Just curious about the process. I import XDCAM EX files that do not require transcoding. As a matter of fact the option is not available. And that is fine, very few problems. But here is what I don't understand. FCP X needs ProRes to operate efficiently and my output files are ProRes. My question is since my files that are in the events folders are not ProRes, how is that possible? If the transcoding takes place when the project is output then I am not really editing using ProRes. I hope my question is not too confusing. I just am curious.
    Thanks to all.
    Cheers,
    Tom

Apples says no problem with XDCAM?
What follows is not a solution just a way to understand what is happening under the bonnet.
    Try this workflow:
Leave FCPX closed and out of the equation for the moment.
Copy BPAV folder to your HD
Eject any SD , SXS reader or camera.
    Open the XDCAM Transfer app
    Click the Add.. button
    Navigate to the BPAV folder
Select the import location from Preferences
Select any clips you wish to ‘Import’
    Hit Import.
XDCAM Transfer will rapidly ‘unwrap’ the movies and place them in the destination folder
Go to folder, open a clip in something like MpegStreamClip or QT
    Hit cmd i
this will bring up an info window
    note the clips attributes
    Video Tracks:
    XDCAM EX 1080i50 (35 Mb/s VBR), 1920 × 1080, 25 fps, 35.00 Mbps
    Audio Tracks:
    (lpcm), 768 kbps
    Now open FCPX
    select Import Media.
look carefully at the drives available to you.
If you copied the BPAV folder to the top level of a finder window that will appear in the ‘CAMERAS’ pane. This applies to any camera folder type such as BPAV for XDCAM, PRIVATE for AVCHD and even DCIM if you have some still images copied rom a camera.
If these are a pain you can hide them by creating a folder at the top level and drop them in that.
    OK, back to Import Media
Locate your newly unwrapped XDCAM clip
    Hit' Import Selected'
Now notice the dialog ‘create optimized media’ …according to Apple this should be greyed out, ‘because XDCAM works just fine’  but its not
OK lets see what happens if do select it and also copy to events folder?
Once imported the Background Tasks render spins from 0-100%. Ok so I have created an optimized clip, ProRes?
Drop the clip on the timeline ,
Lets check, go File - Project Properties…hit the  little spanner far right, says ‘Render Format ProRes
hit Export…(aka Share’ what a stupid name),
select Master File, now watch the Background Render Tasks drop back to 0% and slowly crawls up to 100%. rendering yet again.
Your export will open by default  in QT, hit cmd i and you will see its ProRes. Now thats when we get ProRes
Go to your Final Cut Events folder
    Open your Event
Note you will have an ‘Original Media’ folder with copies of the XDCAM clips
However no ‘Transcoded Media’ folder with no ‘High Quality Media’ as would be the case for formats other than XDCAM.
which is why editing XDCAM is ‘not just fine’ its a pain.
No Optimized media of XDCAM can ever be created.
As far as I can see…unless anybody knows different.
BTW I know you can Import direct from the BPAV folder with the Sony PDZK-LT2 FCPX plugin..but still no real transcode to ProRes.
No XDCAM is not just fine, ProRes? yes I totally agree bring that into FCPX and sure it works so much faster.
If you want to work really fast, SDI or HDMI out into  devices such as the Ninja or Samurai Blade, record as 4:2:2 ProRes
    have fun

  • Import photos that don't exist...

When I import pictures into iPhoto from an external hard drive, there are mystery pictures that are showing up. These are pictures that used to exist on the HD but that I deleted from there.
I deleted my entire iPhoto library and emptied the trash within iPhoto. I then went to the "show package contents" of my iPhoto library on my computer's HD and deleted everything.
I tried to re-import the pictures from the external HD to iPhoto, but AGAIN, the mystery pictures are there. I've checked the folder in the HD that they are showing up in. But, they are not there. I've even done a search on my computer, and the files don't exist.
Please help me figure out why this is happening. I just don't know how to get rid of these pictures. I want them gone...completely!!!
    Thank you!!!

I then went to the "show package contents" of my iPhoto library on my computer's HD and deleted everything.
Never make changes to the structure or content of the iPhoto library using the finder
make sure you have the photos you want safe and drag the baad iPhoto library to the trash and empty it and then depress the option key and launch iPhoto and create anew library - now start using this correctly set up library

  • Is there a way to import images that have been edited and assign them to the original?

I am transitioning to mac and aperture. Is there a way to import images that have been edited and assign them to the original? I have 10,000 originals and about 2,000 edited images. The originals are named img_XXXX and anything modified img_XXXX_modified. I would like to be able to import the originals and then import the edited versions and assign them to the original masters. Instead of starting from here and going forward with 12,000 masters, some of which are actual originals and others not. Thanks for the help.

Ah, the vestiges of a destructive workflow! Once you "get" Aperture, (specifically Masters and Versions) you are going to love it, as all of this work goes away - the relationship that you seek to retain is automatic in Aperture; it is simply done differently.
The short answer to your question is EVERY image file that is Imported into Aperture will create a new Master and one Version. Assuming that your images are PSD/TIFF/JPEG that you created in something like Photoshop, then each one that your import will be a new Master. You have many options:
-- Stick the originals in one Project(s) and the edited versions in another Project(s).
-- Stick them all in the same Project(s) and "Stack" them.
But here is the real question: Why are you doing all of this work and what are you trying to accomplish? Seems you are trying to preserve old things that don't need preserving in a non-destructive workflow.
So, what is most valuable to you?
-- The original, out of camera files? (That is, the fear/need to revert.)
-- The edited versions? (That is the hours of work that it took you to get there.)
If the former, import the originals and ignore the edited versions. (Either simply leave them out on disk or import them into their own Projects which you ignore.) Use Aperture to recreate the work you had done previously. This will always give you the ability to revert to the original Master and create as many Versions as you want. This is the best idea if your edits are relatively simple crops and exposure adjustments,
If the latter, then import the edited versions and do as above with the originals. This makes more sense if your work uses lots of layers and, perhaps lots of clone tool type corrections.
Of course, you can do a bit of both.
Others may have better suggestions, but you will find it easy to answer your own question when you understand an image based, as opposed to a file based, non-destructive workflow.
    Good luck!

  • Imported graphic looks soft/pixelated

I designed an arrow in Photoshop that I saved as a .Tiff and want to bring into FCP. It seems real soft around the edges (almost pixelated). Anyone have any advice for importing graphics that look good.
    Thanks.

    1. Are you suggesting that I change this to something else?
If you want your graphics to look good, yes. DV is the very BOTTOM of the barrel SD...and it doesn't treat graphics well. Change your sequence settings to ProRes for SD, or DV50 and they will look better. You will have to render everything, but the graphics will look better.
CAVIAT: If you are going to put this back on tape then don't do this. DV50 or ProRes cannot be output to a DV tape. If you are going back to tape, then you will have to live with the quality of the graphics. It is what it is. GIGO... Garbage In, Garbage Out.
    2. I have already edited most of the project. Will it cause any problems to change it at this point?
Well, you will have to render every clip...but you can wait until you output. You will get a bright green render bar above the footage, but it will still play fine. But it won't look full quality until you render everything.

  • Are there any game apps that doesn't need wifi

I just got my kids the iPod touch and some places don't have wifi that we can connect to. Are there some games that don't need wifi?

    Hello,
Take a look at the appstore, most games do not require wifi to play, although you do need wifi to download the game initially. Try searching for the type of game your looking for. Or go to the catagories section and brows them there. Unless the description says that it is an online or multiplayer only game then it is most likely to be compatable offline.
Go ahead and take a look. Have fun shopping around!

  • Do clips need to be rendered before exporting project to video camera?

I am in the process of exporting an Imovie project back to my video camera for storage on a tape. When I start the export process I get a message that says clips need to be rendered prior to exporting. When I click the button to render clips Imovie goes through the process of rendering the clips and after several minutes the Imovie project starts to export to the camera and runs for about 2 seconds and the Imovie quits.
Imovie also gives the option of not rendering the clips.
Do i need to render the clips before exporting them to my video camera?
iMac4,1   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   Intel Core Duo, 1.83 GHz

Does the project reside on an external drive? If so, make sure the drive uses the Mac OS Extended disk format, which iMovie requires.
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=4176921#4176921
The crashes are most likely occurring because of external factors, not because of a flawed rendering routine. These can include the wrong disk format, QuickTime add-ons and obsolete iMovie plug-ins.

Do i need to render the clips before exporting them to my video camera?
It may depend on what type of clips they are. If they are photos imported with the Ken Burn checkbox turned OFF — which are not rendered as they are imported — iMovie will ask to render them. Do NOT allow iMovie to render the photos at this time for there's a bug that adds lots of jaggies to the images, reducing their quality.

  • AVCHD clip's always needs to get rendered when inserting. Media info about .mts file attached

    Hi
I have previously discussed this problem in another thread. I have .mts files that I insert in a project (project preset set to PAL-AVCHD Full-HD)....when inserting i always need to render the clips and as many peole have mentioned, this should not be needed, instead PrEl should take care of this by itself..and it really sunds weird if it doesnt...
So, why is this happen...i get so frustrated when I have to re-render the clips all the time, since also - it takes a looong time for jsut tiny tiny clips ? I posted the hardware specs I have two days ago in this same forum, and it looks from the answers I got that this hardware should be enough for not having to wait several minutes to jsut add a 6 second AVCHD clip ?
Please look at below image that is a screenshot from MediaInfo about the details for my .mts file I'm trying to add - resulting in new rendering needed, plus the fact that it takes about 5 minutes to render it ??
Please, suggestion or solutions ? I'm lost...I got feedback yesterday that this is a known problem with both PrEl 8 and PrEl 9 ..that AVCHD clips needs to get rendered manually when they are added....i.e a known bug in these versions ?? Any experience ? How can I move forward, I have problems to understand that such bug should exist without anysolution and/or workaround since I see this as a feature that MUST work for people not getting crazy :-)
MediaInfo screenshot (click on image to get it to look better) BR /Helmut

    Hi Neale
many thanks for your time trying to help me out.....
Please see my answers below in bold, hope you and/or someone else can help me with some further answers
Are you opening a project created in PRE8 with PRE9? If yes, that is the most likely cause of the problem. Create a new PRE9 project and see if the same problems after you import the clip and save the project. No, I'm only working in Pr 8.0 - I have this problem as soon as I add a clip..not that into the different formats, just know that the best possible output from my camera (Canon HF10) should be AVCHD..thats why I added teh detailed info from "MediaInfo". can you tell from that info I'm correct, i.e that the .mts file is really AVCHD as expected ? Just to help me confirm that. So, I havent been using PrEl 9.0...another person two days ago told me that PrEl 9 also got similar problems as I reported for my PrEl 8.0 ?
When you first added the clip to your project did you receive any messages that the file was not suitable for the format? If so did you accept the offered preset? If you didn't start a new PRE9 project and this time accept the offer. No, I did not get any messages as all about the format. Occasionally I get something like "Do you want to fix the quality in the clip" ..cant recall exactelly what the message is, but its for sure nothing about the format
When you put it into the project, did you have a red line running the length of the timeline? If you do then your preset is not correct (this is purely PRE9. PRE8 always required rendering AVCHD footage).Yes, always when I add a clip I get this red line. If I understand everything correctly this means I have to hit ENTER key to create a preview file....thats my second problem - as soon as I do that, it renders the clip very very slowly although I should have prety good hardware (According to spec posted two days ago).
So, as a summary. Do you think that buying Premiere Elements 9.0 should get rid of this problem when adding AVCHD ? If that is the case, I feel I just want to be sure about this and that I will not experience the problem again. Can it not just be some setting that is, by default, not correct in Premiere El 8.0 that is causing this or is this really a known bug without fixes available from Adobe?
    Best Regards
    Helmut
