Import images from memory card?

My Canon digital camera uses a removable memory card which I then put into an Inca Card Reader. When using Photoshop Elements 11 and try to open the Card Reader to import images, the Card Reader isn't even listed among the various drives attached to, or within, my computer? How can I fix this? I want Photoshop Elements 11 to recognise the Card Reader so I can import the images. My email address is [email protected] With thanks, Mike Pratt (Australia)

Ok, the issue seem to be solved. The problem was this:
The many hundred files (raw and xmp per image) have been downloaded by ftp in no specific order. Means - a couple of files in the download queue - both raw and xmps. Most of the time, the small xmp files have been finished loading first and hence the "last change date" of these xmp files was OLDER than the "last change date" of the raw file - Lightroom then seem to ignore the existence of the xmp file and does not read it during import.(a minute is enough to run into the problem)
By simply using the ftp client in a way that all large raw files get downloaded first followed by the xmp files, we achieved that all "last changed dates" of the xmp files are NEWER than the related raw files. (at least not older)
And then LR is reading them and all metadata information has been set / read correctly.
So this is solved.

Importing contacts from memory card

Have recently got new 5800 after mine got wet. The new one is slightly different and I have put my memory card from old one into new phone.
I can't seem to find the right route to import my numbers off my memory card.
I'm sure the card is not corrupted as it had all my music on which automatically transfered when I opened real player.

file manager>double click the memory card>option>copy contacts>from memory card...

I cant find this option anywhere, and with other photo management systems it's a fairly standard option, but how do you automatically delete the photos off the memory card once you have successfully imported them??

You don't. LR is conservative about destroying stuff, and wants you to put the card back into the camera to clear it.

Transferring images from memory card in printer to iMac.

My camera just broke, and I am unable to download the pictures from my camera's memory card onto my Mac (I am using version 10.6.8). I usually just plug my camera into my Mac via the USB port, but I am now unable to do that. My printer has a memory card slot to use to print from, but I'm not sure I can transfer pictures from my card to my computer. I have a Canon MP560 multi-function printer. I just came back from a 2 week vacation and would like to see my pictures! Please help!

Trying to import images from sd card as copy to dng and crashes my program LR3.6

Trying to import images as dng and crashes my computer. It writes to a temp folder and cannot delete the temp folder bc there is error in writing to it. Mac OSX. Have done this many time with no problem. I can make adjustments inside the program and when I export the modified images to another folder it writes to a temp folder as well. but doesnt crash the system. Any suggestions on how to correct this

Sounds like you need to check the permissions of where you are copying or exporting to. Repair permissions as well.

How do i import photos from memory card

I just bought a digital camera and apparently my battery died before I transferred the photos and now I can't. I'm afraid I will lose the photos if I replace the battery to charge it and need to upload the photos but have no idea where I even find whatever this memory card reader is and can't find any info. Please help

Thanks, Larry. I was so dumb and scared because I had read something somewhere about some camera that said not to remove the battery before downloading photos. I couldn't remember WHERE I had read it and was scoring my camera's manual and my emails to see where I had read that. Finally found it last night and it was some piece of crap kiddie camera. So I went ahead and charged the battery and was able to load my photos this a.m. Thanks! I may be looking to you for more advice. I was trying to click on helpful answer for you and gave myself one. I cannot import images from EXT HD

UNtil yesterday, everything was fine. I am on a Mac. Running iOS 10.9.5 and LR version 5.5 (CR 8.5)
I have imported images from my card into Aperture and these images are stored on an external HD. I then bring the ones I wish to edot into LR
When I try to bring them inot lr, the import process seems to go as always, but upon completion, i get a message saying 'some files cannot be written'. No Error code. Basically all files are not being written. The images are in Aperture. I can see and edit them there, but I cannot bring them from there into Lightroom as I have always done. I havemnt done anything to change my set up. SOmething has happened and I dont know what it is or what to do about it.
I upgraded from LR4 online, so I no longer have a physical cd of the software.
I would be very grateful for any help anyone can give me. Thank you

I mean the directory specified in the Lightroom Import dialog box, near the top right, it says "Destination". Has that directory been accidentally changed to someplace different than it was before when things were working properly?
I can't tell you how to change permissions, as I am not a Mac person, but I think that Google thing might be able to find the answer.

The error message probably said "unsupported or damaged"
The T3 requires Lightroom 3.4.1 or later. You can either upgrade to a more current version of Lightroom (version 5.6 is the most recent) or you can use the free Adobe DNG Converter to convert the RAWs to DNG, which should import into Lightroom properly.

Import as DNG from Memory card to PC using Win 7?

I import images into My Pictures (Win 7) then convert to DNG when I import into them into Lightroom where I delete and edit. The DNGs are deleted from Lightroom, but CR2 files now on my hard drive are not. Can I import as DNG from memory card to hard drive on PC so they will be deleted as well? Thanks

AFAIK Win 7 does not have any features to Copy/Convert to DNG from your Memory Card to your hard drive.
The import function in Lightroom certainly has this ability within the import dialog menu. Just select the appropriate settings.
This is done from the Library Module in Lightroom.

Deleting images from CF-card when imported

Hi.
Have any of you been able to find a feature that deletes the imported images from the CF-card, so you don't have to manually delete images them from the CF-card.

There isn't at tis point. Consensus view it that it's best to delete/format in camera.

Aperture put about 700 images in an untitled project folder, but all the images are the JPEGs. What am I missing?

Have you checked your "Import" settings for "Raw&Jpeg" pairs in the "Import" panel?
You can set Aperture to import raw, jpeg, or raw&jpeg.
If you imported Raw&Jpeg, but have set Aperture to use the Jpeg as original, you will see the imported image as Jpeg image, not as a raw image, even if the raw has also been imported. You can switch between Raw and Jpeg originals for selected images from the Photos menu:
Photos > Use Raw as original.

Delete from memory card after import

Hi,
I'm a fresh Lightroom newbie, and I am missing how to delete pictures from a memory card as I am importing them into Lightroom. This seems a glaringly obvious feature, so it must be hiding somewhere.
The only options I can see in the "Import Photos" dialog are
- Copy photos to a new location and import
- Copy photos as Digital Negative (DNG) and import
There doesn't seem to be an option to delete files after import, just various ways to eject the card.
I've found one way if I choose "Import Photos from Disk" while in Lightroom, there I have a Move option, but why not from device? Every other photo importer has this.

Thanks for your responses. I'll go ahead and use "Import photos from disk" and change to my card reader. I personally had no problems in my years reading & immediately deleting files from memory cards. I had a few instances where I inadvertently deleted a fresh imported picture on the computer, I used undelete utilities on the card in these cases.
That said, I still think it would be a good feature. If the users want to do it (2 years of questions), just let them.

Is there any difference in importing movies to iMovie direct from memory card or first importing the movie to the hard drive?

Is there any difference in method:
1) importing movies directly from memory card (class 10) to iMovie
2) copying the content of the memory card to my hard drive and from there I import it to iMovie
I mean, is there any quality issues? The latter method is really much faster.

No.
The copy of the card is a 'bit-identical clone' - no difference to the 'original'.
Plus a superb method to back-up originals....
I copy all my original recordings first onto some hard-drive - SDcards are much to 'fragile' in my experience....
