Import images WITHOUT any IPTC metadata

I've been racking by brain trying to work out how to do this, but cannot find a way, I'm sure it's something simple.
When I import my files the keywords are always imported and put into the top of the keyword directory instead of nested in folders I have organised in the keyword HUD. To solve this I have to remove all the new keywords, then import my IPTC metadata using iView Media Pro and the excellent Annoture.
Is there a way to import images without any IPTC data coming with them? I have tried 'Add Metadata From: All IPTC' and had it set to replace and left the fields blank, but this did not work.
Any ideas?

Ok, half way there. I downloaded an app called Pref Setter to edit the preferences by deleting the array strings that I no longer needed.
Also you can adjust the hierarchy of the auto completion data. I found that helpful with the copyright field since they all start off the same.
Need to still find a way to have the data automatically entered from a default setting, with out having to start typing.

Your MBP is running in "extended desktop" mode, where the two screens together make one larger area to display windows. You can drag one or more windows from the primary (internal) screen to the secondary (TV) screen. By default, the secondary screen is off to the right of the primary screen.
If you would prefer the two screens show the same image, you want to switch to "mirroring" mode. You will have to pick a single resolution for both screens, which may look poor on one or the other.
Both the relative positions of the two screens in extended desktop mode and the switch to mirroring mode can be set in System Preferences > Displays > Arrangement.

  • Importing files with embedded IPTC metadata - Workaround?

I was hoping the the "metadata improvments" that Apple delivered with Aperture v.1.1 would include the ability to import legacy files with IPTC and XMP metadata embedded by Photoshop, iView, Photo Mechanic, and other similar programs.
Unless I am missing something that ability is still not a part of the Aperture program.
I really like Aperture and think Apple has got many things right in the new program. I would like to make it my primary tool for digital image management. That would require the ability to read into the Aperture Library the metadadta written by other programs.
Does anyone have a workaround for importing files that lets other programs IPTC tags be imported or connected with the files.

I think your problem is likely that you have the option to stack the copy with the original turned on. First, right-click on one of these photos and go to the stacking menu. If Unstack is not grayed out then you have a stack -- select Unstack to reveal all copies.
To change the automatic stacking of edited copies from Photoshop, when you next choose to edit a file, in the bottom left corner of the dialog is the check box for unstacking. Clear it, and that choice should "stick" until you change it again.
    Hope this helps!

  • How to import images without creating duplicates of images aready imported?

i am trying to find a way to import pictures into aperture without duplicating pictures already in the library. it will be great that aperture recognize that a picture is already in the library and ask if we want to duplicate or replace the picture with the new import. with my current system setting, i can import the same pictures over and over in the same project, and i get several duplicates with the same file name.
how can i set up aperture so it recognizes that a pictures (according to its file name) is already in the library. thanks for your help.

I never figured this out either and it bugged me. You basically have to import the iPhotos for instance the first time and if still uploading into iPhoto then have to import folders. Go to File>Import>Images/or Folders as Projects(what I usually do) and then track down the right folder and click Import. Make sure you have the right place clicked you want them on the Projects Panel or you may import them into the middle of another Project (done that more than once). Sorry I don't have answer but at least a fix till someone knows more.

  • Is there a way to import images without crashing?

I am on Windows and I have 8000 images or so in 40 directories.
When I import into LR, it crashes. I have been sending that crash data to Microsoft (that dialog that pops up), so the Adobe engineers can download it from there.
    A few things I noticed:
    * when importing the same photos from the same directory tree, LR shows me a list of the photos it will not import, because they are already in the library. this is great, but it only shows the first couple of hundred or maybe a thousand? It does not list the most recently added photos. It's almost as if there is a limit to how many "previously loaded images in the library" it can handle.
    * sometimes when crashes occur, i get a crash dialog and sometimes LR just restarts... either can happen when processing the same photos and the same directories. I can't see a pattern.
    * note: *all* of these 8000 photos can be loaded with Bridge/Photoshop without errors, so I am sure it's a LR problem.
I understand software development, but why didn't Adobe QA team test importing with hundreds or thousands of images? With the wealth of development tools availalbe today, these kinds of stress tests can be done in an automated way, as part of the build process.

    I had several yesterday
    A bit of history:
During the beta phase I only had a very small library with some
unimportant photos. When I uninstalled beta 4 a week or so before v1
came out I did not delete the original database.
I installed v1, the original DB was automatically detected and used, I
added all my pictures to it. While import went quite smoothly,
performance later on was abysmal. So, yesterday I decided to dump the
old library, creating one from scratch. This way I could also take
note of those files LR could not import.
    The situation:
I have three HDs connected to the computer [one internal, two FW], the
internal one holding the least number of photos. Importing the few
hundred internally stored files went alright, the same operation on
the FW-connected drives crashed several times.
    Probable culprit:
When I am on the computer various programs for communication are
running in the background, e-mail [The Bat!], browser [Opera 9.1] and
    IM [Trillian] the foremost.
Trillian uses an XML UI; it also features plug-ins of which I have a
installed a handful, like a weather-forecast. The one regularly
hitting performance is my RSS aggregator, a plug-in called Good News.
It may be curious coincidences but since I installed LR I had two or
three crashes of Trillian when LR was running; and the crashes on
import with LR happened just when Good News refreshed a number of RSS
feeds. The new messages are shown as small windows on the desktop,
fading away after a few seconds. With more than one new message [most
of the time there are more, often enough a lot more] the windows stack
up until the border of the desktop is reached, then they move down
when other notification windows disappear. Quite some work for CPU and
    graphics adaptor.
I explain that because it may help others to find the problem, and in
order to give Adobe something to look for [like incompatibilities
    between application].
BTW, after I closed down Trillian and let LR work, no crash anymore.
    Could be coincidence, though.

  • Import Models without any extra engines?

I have a very simple question to ask you people here at Sun.
I'm making a 3D game and I DON'T want to use any other stupid engines for game development, no NetBeans, no Eclipse, no JME, nothing... I want to make a 3d from scratch but I want to know if I could just import models into my code from scratch (this is a yes or no answer) and also how could I do this (again without using any engines, because I want to do this FROM SCRATCH)
So thanks for any and all help,
    It will be really appreciated

Closed, solved it myself using this step by step approach suggested by Martin
    1) create an ejb module Development ComponentDC
    2) apply a stateless session bean, implement your business logic and add the methods
    to the local interface
    3) right click your ejb DC and select Development Component > Show In > Component Properties from context menu
    - switch to the permissions tab and select Entity forwarding
    4) create a Java EE Enterprise Application Archive (ear) file and reference your ejb
    5) right click your ear DC and select Development Component > Show In > Component Porperties from context menu
    - switch to the Public Parts tab
    - add a new puplic part (compilation)
    - right click it, select Reference Entities from the context menu and browse for your ejb DC and choose the Client public part
    4) create WebDynpro DC
    5) import your ejb

  • Find previously imported images (Already in Catalog)

Back in LR1 and LR2, when I tried to import images that were already present in the catalog, I had an option to show me / select the already imported images. This is gone in LR4. How can I find in the library the already imported images without fecthing them one by one ?

Thanks john but after trying your suggestion things didn't change (importing an already existing image I get the message "no phots or videos were found to import"). As for my reasons of having such workflow, here is the explanation: I work as fashion photographer and I shoot about 500 pics per session. I use an external software to select the "good enough" images (as its preview is 20 times faster than the ridicously slow LR or other Adobe softwares) and the images selected in a first time can be (almost always are) different from those chose in a second time (as different people are involved in the editing process). @cornelia: images must be good enough to me or to the editor, not to LR, and we might have different opinion and in different moment. At the same time I cannot import 500 images a day in LR.
In any case my main point is that this feature (i.e. the warning that the images were already in the catalog, and where) existed on previous releases of LR and now disappeared, apparently.

Official JPEG specs does not allow any transparency at all,
    so save your
time and quit trying it. GIF only support limited colors (up
    to 256), one
of that can be assigned as "transparent". So when FW exports
    GIF from a
source file that have any partial transparency, it "premixes"
    any partial
transparent color of source with "matte" color. In case the
    latter
correspond to average color of your page background, and your
    page
background is not too wild and colorful, and you are not
    using too wide
partially transparent stuff, it normally work well.
Among the image formats common on the Web, only PNG provides
    true partial
transparency. Alas, IE still does not correctly understand
    that part of
PNG specs that was set years ago. So if you definitely
    positevely can't
live without transparency things that are available in GIFs,
    PNG plus
specific CSS and\or Javascript trics is the only way to go.
    However, I'd
personally make sure I can't live with old limited GIFs
    before going that
    way.

  • Conversion tool BO XI3 crashed with certain files without any reason

    Dear all,
While using the conversion tool BO XI 3 to convert reports from deski to webi, I am facing some issue.
Without any reason, any warning and any explanations afterwards, the conversion tool just close.
And i dot not know why and how I can resolve this.
It only happens to some of my reports.
I opened them under BO XI 3 deski to have a look but they are working fine.
Did anyone had this kind of problem ?
    Thank you,
    Audrey

Yes indeed, but I have another issue (I posted another subject here) as for BO XI 3 deski:
    http://scn.sap.com/thread/3591504
I can not open the deski files with problems because the folder is empty when trying to import from the CMS. It is like there are no documents at all whereas when I open the conversion tool they are all here (around 250).
It is strange because as for Webi 3 I can access to CMS and import documents without any problems.

  • Import acting strangely.. selecting random and previously imported images

Whenever I try to do an import, looking for new images on my existing harddrive, I am seeing strange activity that I cannot understand.
First, Lightroom selects thousands of images (all?) to import, then it automatically begins reducing the number of selected images to a much smaller, but seemingly random subset of images that have already been imported.  If I go ahead and import, and then try the same process, I get another seemingly random set of previously imported images.
    Any ideas what is happening?

  • Just purchased Nikon D610. tried to import 3 images and got this message: The files are not recognized by the raw format support in Lightroom. How do I fix this frustrating problem. Have been using Lightroom for years also Nikon products without any prior

How do I import images. Have a message that says: The files are not recognized by the raw format suppot in Lightroom. Am using a Mac version 10.9.4. the import is from a new Nikon D610. Am using LR 4.4 Please help Adobe is useless as a support.

Each camera must be supported explicity and your LR version is years older than your camera.
According to Adobe's Camera-support page, you need at least LR 5.3 to work with your D610 NEFs in LR:
Camera Raw plug-in | Supported cameras
If you don't want to upgrade to LR 5, or can't due to your OS being too old, then it might work to use the latest DNG Converter and create DNGs from your NEFs, which should open in LR 4.x.  You can find the DNG Converter here:  http://www.adobe.com/downloads/updates

  • Exporting to DNG without having to re-import images into LR, how?

I am trying to use LR in conjunction with various DAM techniques. This means that I import images from cards as RAW files to a "Current Files" partition with LR automatically writing XMP files, add metadata and color and exposure corrections. Then I export the files to DNG on another "Derivative Files" hard drive.
The problem comes in in the exporting to DNG. When I do that, using the export command, Lightroom does not "follow" the files to their new location, but continues to reference the original files. I know that I could use the "Convert to DNG" command and have it replace the files in place, then copy them over to the "Derivative Files" drive, but I was trying to save a step or two, especially since the files are large and take a long time to copy and I am paranoid and want to back up the original RAW files for a couple of weeks anyway, just in case of problems with to DNG's.
Any help or tips would be appreciated.

    Jonah and Don,
Thanks for the replies. What I want to do is be able to come back to the files months from now, and be able to process out new derivative files, for a client request, say, secure in the knowledge that all my metadata and exposure info have survived the conversion to DNG and the move to the new hard drive.
So, if as Jonah says, the Virtual Copies stay associated with the files when they convert to DNG, then I can use them just like they were when I made them with the ORIGINAL RAW files. Is this correct?
Don, how does Drag and Drop work within LR? I did not know that existed. Please be kind enough to explain how one would MOVE a folder of newly-created DNG files from one drive to another.
Thanks so much for the input! I think I am finally getting the hang of how LR can really work for me.

  • Importing Images--Metadata Panel

An early tutorial in the Long, Harrington, and Luna book in the Apple Training Series for Aperture 2 walks one through the steps to setup the metadata panel that will stamp each imported image with a common copyright, photographer name, etc. This panel opens when the Import function is active. It appears at the right of the screen. In the illustration in the book, and in the instance of Aperture 2 installed on my iMac, no problem--the long list has a scroll bar to reveal all of it for data entry. However, on my MacBook, there is no scroll bar present, and there is no evidence of any data entry opportunity. This is a serious problem since the aspect ratio on the MacBook screen is so wide compared to the much "taller" iMac screen. I've checked everything I can think of and am at a loss. Any ideas?
I'm running Aperture 2.1.2 on both machines and the specs for both appear in my "signature" below.
    Terry

In case you are still having problem. I had similar problem as per my previous post. After some thought I determined that it was a plist file problem. Here is what I did to fix the problem:
I was able to solve the problem by deleting the com.apple.aperture.plist file
First I made note of all my preferences, then I deleted the file. Closed Aperture and then re-booted the MacBookPro.
Once I rebooted and relaunched Aperture, reset preferences and closed Aperture and then restarted Aperture and now the Import panel is back to normal with the appropriate lists showing for the "add metadata from" presets.
    Hopefully this will help others.

  • Is there any way to change IPTC metadata in psb files?

I created an file by combining a number of images into a panorama. As is expected, the panorama picked up the IPTC metadata from one of the source images, and saved it into the resulting file.
If I had saved the file as a psd or tiff, I could easily use Bridge or Lightroom to change the IPTC metadata after saving the file. But Lightroom doesn't even read psb files, and Bridge won't let me change any of the metadata (the metadata appears to be read-only).
The only way I could figure out to change the metadata was to use exiftool. It seems very strange that a third-party tool is required to make rather simple changes to what is (I believe) a proprietary file format of Adobe. Or am I missing something?
