Import INTO Photo Booth?

I had some problems with my computer and ended up wiping it clean and reinstalling everything.
I have a clone, so I just moved all my vital stuff over. I had some pics and movies in Photo Booth prior and moved the 'Photo Booth' folder from my old 'Pictures' folder in my user folder.
Everything I want is in that folder but none of it shows up in Photo Booth. If I take new pictures and movies, it adds them to the folder and sees the new ones but never the old ones I dragged over from my clone. Anyone know how to make them show up?

Hi guys,
Until about 10 minutes ago, I was just as lost and confused as you guys were, and very disappointed that it seemingly is such a chore to do something that should be very easy. I have the quick and easy solution to this problem.
The first key bit of information is this: in Leopard (10.5.2 currently), Photo Booth stores the information of what photos it shows in a file called "Recents.plist" and this file is in 'username'>Library>Application Support>Photo Booth. Now that we know where this file is, we can ignore the one that is actually in the Photo Booth folder (with all your pictures), since that one isn't being used anymore; you can keep it, delete it, eat it...whatever. Now, the tricky but easy to follow part is this:
Open terminal. Type cd, then press the Space Bar. Now in Finder, drag the folder you're working with ("Photo Booth"...should be by default in your Photos folder) into the Terminal window.
Mouse click on Terminal to make it active and hit Return.
Then type ls -1 (that's lower-case l, s, and the number 1, meaning "list short with one entry per line").
Hit Return again. You should get a list of all the files currently in the folder.
You'll have to alter the list a bit (I usually employ Microsoft Word for find and replace work) to translate it into the proper format. Open Word and paste in the data from Terminal. Delete Recents.plist from the end of the list (since the finished plist doesn't need to include itself in the list of photos).
Hit Command-F, then click on the Replace tab. Enter ^p in the search field (that's the code for paragraph breaks) and enter </string>^p^t<string> in the replace field. Click on Replace All.
Add a <string> to the first item in the list, and delete any unneeded extra stuff at the end of the list.
Select the results and hit Command-C to copy.
Switch to the recents.plist file that you've opened in TextEdit, select all the <string> lines, delete, and paste in the new lines from Word.
Save the new recents.plist file to disk and reopen Photo Booth. All the pictures in the folder should now display.
I hope this helps. I did it and it worked really well for me.

  • Import photos into photo booth

    Hello,
I just upgraded to Leopard by doing an erase and install (wanted a fresh start). I manually backed up all the photos in my Photo Booth folder and the recents.plist file also.
Now I was to add those photos back into Photo Booth in Leopard. I know you used to be able to edit the Recents.plist file, but the new Photo Booth does not seem to make this file. Anyone have an idea of how I can import my backed up photos into Photo Booth?

Ah, just figured it out. The Recents.plist file is now located in /Users/~/Library/Application Support/Photo Booth/
For some reason when I did a spotlight search for Recents.plist, that folder didn't come up so I assumed Photo Booth was no longer using Recents.plist to hold the list of photos.
    Thanks!

  • Can't drag user backdrop into photo booth

I can't drag and drop picture backdrops/backgrounds into photo booth. Ive tried dragging images from iphoto and the desktop but when i drop them on the silhouette a circular geen logo with the plus sign in it appears. I click again and nothing happens.
Has anybody got any ideas at all?
    Many Thanks

    Umm,
When I added the Nightscape and Hillside pics (two pics from my daughter's trip to China) I added then straight from a folder within my Home Folder/Pictures.
I opened iPhoto and chose one Event and added the Beach Pic (Bournemouth, UK) and then another Event and added the Stonehenge pic.
I am simply Clicking and Dragging the Pic over the User Backdrop space and then Letting go once I see the Green + symbol  (I am not clicking again).
It sounds from your description that you do not have Permission to Write to the Photo Booth .plist
    Could you do the following.
In the Finder use the Go Menu > Go to Folder
Copy and Paste this bold text into the dialogue box.
    ~/Library/Preferences
You should now be in the Preferences Folder.
    Find the com.apple.PhotoBooth.plist
Click on it once to highlight.
Do a Get Info (CMD and I keys together or use the File Menu)
At the bottom do you Own the File ? (you may need to use the Padlock and then the Cogwheel icon - if your name is greyed Out you already Own it)
Do you have Read and Write permissions in the list above ?
Example Pic (not a .plist though)

  • I have 1000  photos in an iPhoto Library that won't import into Photos because it says the metadata can't be read.  Yet those JPG files open just fine in iPhoto, GraphicConverter, et al.  What gives?

I have 1000  photos in an iPhoto Library that won't import into Photos because it says the metadata can't be read.  Yet those JPG files open just fine in iPhoto, GraphicConverter, et al.  Any thoughts?

It’s part of the basic install of OS X. So unless you deleted it then it’s there in your apps folder. If you have deleted it, it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. You will be able to extract the installation package using Pacifist.
Alternatively, if you’re using almost any camera +apart from a Canon+ then the camera card is visible on the desktop and you can drag the movie to the desktop using the Finder and import from there.
No matter what camera you use, if you pop the card from it into a USB Card Reader then it will be accessible via the Finder. Card Readers are inexpensive and all round a better idea.
    Why use a Card Reader?
Because it’s safer: Less risk of your images being lost if your camera shuts down during transfer.
Because it saves the battery on your camera
Because it saves wear and tear on your camera ports
    Because it’s almost always faster.

  • Importing from photo booth, problems with length and sound

I have a 15 min (277 MB) video clip from photo booth that I would like to post to youtube. I can't get it to work and have been wrestling with a few different programs:
When opening the clip in Quicktime, there is no sound. I can open with VLC media player and the sound is fine.
The clip is too long to import to youtube, so i need to edit it into two sections. However, when try to import the clip into iMovie HD 6, the program crashes (maybe because it is again too long?).
So I purchased Quicktime pro so I could edit the clip. I am able to do this fine, but still have the sound problem. When I saved the edited version, and try to open with VLC, still no sound. Same with iMovie, I can import the smaller clip, but no sound.
I now realize that photobooth is less than ideal for long clips...but we got carried away.
    Any input would be appreciated!

I use KDE, but I had sound issues too when I tried Gnome, and just couldn't get it to work right (One of the reasons I use KDE) but if I remember correctly, I needed to install the esd sound daemon and add it to /etc/rc.conf to get sound in gnome.

  • I can't drag and drop user backdrops into Photo Booth.  Help!

Hi there...just this past Monday I bought my first Macbook Pro, and I'm having a little trouble with Photo Booth.  I know it's supposed to be easy to drag and drop into the User Backdrop 1, etc, but for some reason I've tried different files and they will not add into the boxes.
So far I've tried adding shots from safari, both by dragging and by saving the image to my desktop.  I've also tried to add photos from my iPhoto but to no avail.
If someone can give me some help I'd really appreciate it.  I've been searching online for the better part of an hour and it doesn't seem like this is a common problem.
    Thanks!

Ok so I figured it out!
It was really quite a simple fix, and I feel ashamed that I couldn't come to this conclusion earlier.
Anyway, for anyone else having this issue, it was because I had Photo Booth in full screen mode.  As soon as I got out of that, I was able to add pictures to my user backdrops without a problem.
    Super simple.
I hope it helps someone out there.

  • Photos not moving from last import into photos

osx 10.9.5, photos import but do not move from last import to photos, when I import more then the previous imported disappear and the newest imported just sit in the last import section

You are confused - neither last import or photos are places - nothing moves - both are simply different ways to view photos in your library - everything that is in last import is also in Photos and also in an event
Most likely you have the date set wrong on your camera or you have the sort set wrong - check the sort under the view menu - sort photos (on when viewing events sort events)

  • My green webcam light will not turn off, when I go into photo booth, it says my webcam isn't connected

My webcam light will not turn off. It's been on for days, even when I restart and shut down my computer. It also will not allow me to use the webcam, it says that it is not connected.

I have a similar problem. The caps lock light stays lit. If I accidentally hit it, I won't be able to type anything for a few seconds, like the keyboard is frozen.
Strangely it doesn't seem to cause me to type in all caps. The light's on, but it doesn't cap lock.
Also strange is that this started happening recently, after upgrading to 10.5.7.
Any answers welcome - thanks. I think these may be related issues.

  • Can't import iPhoto library into Photos

I updated Yosemite today which installed the new Photos app. It did not automatically import my iPhoto library. I was able to sign on to Photo Sharing, so those photos did import into my new Photos library.
My problem is that my iPhoto library is in my "shared" home folder, rather than my individual home folder. In order to open the "Shared" Pictures folder, you need to right click and choose "Show Package Contents" to see any of the files inside. When I do that via Finder, I see a Library file, but it was last updated in 2011. I assume that is not the file I need. But there are no other library files within that folder. I even tried to use "Open with..." and chose Photos for it, but nothing was imported. When I try to click the "Pictures" folder via Photos open library functions (when you open Photos, pressing the Option button), it is shaded out and unable to open.
When I open iPhoto, my library appears to be functioning and everything is there. But I don't see an option within iPhoto to export the library so that Photos may have access to it.
I just can't for the life of me figure out how to find the file I need to import into Photos.

You do not want to import the Masters folder from your iPhoto library into Photos. You will lose all of your edits, keywords, etc.
Instead move the iPhoto Library to your Pictures folder and make sure it's running correctly before trying a conversion. Run the First Aid procedures if need be.
Once you've confirmed it's running OK launch Photos with the Option key held down, click on the Other Library button, navigate to the Pictures folder and select the iPhoto Library to convert.
If you think you may want to continue to use iPhoto until you're comfortable with Photos make a copy of the iPhoto Library before converting.

  • What is the best way to import photo booth and QuickTime screen recordings ino iMovie? My iMovie keeps crashing?

    Hi
I am creating a video where I am importing a screen recording via QuickTime and an intro from photo booth. Unfortunately, my movie imports and continuously crashes! Is there a specific way I should be doing this?
What methods do people successfully employ?
    Thanks!
    Mohammad

Thanks. I think I was just doing it wrong, because it doesn't crash anymore, lol.
Importing from Photo Booth requires saving to desktop, rather than sharing via media browser. A bit manual, but seems to work!
    Thanks again!

  • Photo Booth Audio and Logic

I was messing around with Photo Booth today while at the computer learning some songs on my bass and just started recording video in photo booth. On playback the audio is on the left only. I'm recording thru the instrument input of a Apogee duet firewire I/O it has two inst inputs 1 is going left 2 is going right. I see there are no audio preferences in photo booth to get the audio to play center being mono.Anyone recording video and audio in photo booth thru a external device have this issue? I thought by importing into Logic I could center it.
When importing the photo booth movie into Logic the audio will play center by making it a mono track.Exporting out of Logic as a stereo still results in a hotter left side. I guess if I were recording thru the Mac inputs it would playback center.

In Photo Booth, right-click on the video and either Export or Reveal in Finder. Either way, then open and play it with QuickTime. Is audio and video still out of sync?

  • Web cam is very sluggish with Photo Booth

    Hi,
I'm on the new 24", 2.4 Ghz iMac and most everything works consistently and well, but I'm getting concerned about the internal Webcam.
From time to time I go into Photo Booth just to check things out. More than once, I have gotten a green screen with no Webcam working. And last time, I even had a green screen and the camera/Webcam green light was on at the top of the iMac. I tried taking a photo and I got a green square (surprise!).
Usually, if I quit the photo booth application and restart it, eventually the Webcam will come on and I can see myself etc.
But I worry that this is a possible defect. What if down the road I need this Webcam and ooops! too late to claim any warranty.
Has anyone else had this problem?
    Many Thanks, Frank B.

Hi, ah the green screen issue! from what I remember a few pepe's had this issue with the white iMac c2d.. From memory-Repair Permissions & Reboot. If that fails do the SMC reset thing. A great addition to the iSight App is iGlasses ->http://www.ecamm.com/mac/iglasses/settings.html ....L

  • Problem with iSight/Photo Booth

Hey all, I've had my MacBook for 2 days now and the isight camera stopped working earlier today. I used the camera to video conference earlier using iChat and everything worked fine. Now, when I go into Photo Booth or iChat the camera wont work. The green light comes on, but in Photo Booth I'm only seeing a solid green screen. In iChat, I only see a solid black screen.
I've tried restarting several times and I can't find any info on this. Suggestions, anyone? Thanks!
MacBook Black   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Well, for some unkown reason it started working again. I took my MB to the apple store to show them what was going on and, wouldn't you know it, it started working again They couldn't offer me an explanation.....they just told me to bring the MB back in if the camera stops working again. I've been using it on and off today and I haven't had a single problem!

  • Photo Booth - Custom Sound Effect?

Is there any way I can set Photo Booth to play a custom sound effect each time a photo is taken rather than the default shutter sound?
    Thanks!

Work with a COPY of Photo Booth.app so that you can revert to the original behavior if you don't like the results.
Under Leopard, it's a simple matter of digging into Photo Booth.app and replacing the shutter sound-- /Applications/Photo Booth.app/Contents/Resources/photo_shutter.aiff -- with another short AIFF of the same name and in the same format (8 bit, mono, 8 KHz).
Replace photo_shutter.aiff with any sound you choose. You do have to give it the same name so that the program can find it.
Snow Leopard has tightened up code-signing. The above modification will probably break the app under SL, though it does work under Leopard.
