Import iPhone footage audio question

Hi,
I'm doing tests on importing iPhone footage. The audio is in mono, so I can't actually hear it in my project without separating it, then creating a left and right channel. I also don't see a control that converts mono to stereo.
What is the preferred method to getting audio to work in FCP X projects?
thanks,
Dave

Are the meters moving when you play back the clip?
I can hear the audio in the clip but not the project.
That's confused me. You mean you hear the audio when you play back the clip in the browser, but you don't hear it when you put the clip into a project? What are your project properties exactly?

  • Import video with audio question

When I start a new project and import a video with audio, then drag to the timeline , it puts the latter on audio 4 track instead of track 1. Why is it skipping 3 tracks?

. Thanks Bill.  It was a mono track and the 3 above were stereo.  I deleted the 3 empty tracks and now it is below the video directly.  What I am also wondering about is why the video track can be widened vertically,by dragging the bottom border and the previous audio 1 track could be also, but this one can not.  Is it not possible to see the waveform as I can when I imported an audio file in a different project?  That one was expandable veritically. There was no video in that one.

  • Problems importing iPhone 4 video into After Effects CS5 - Audio sync out

    Hi there,
I am currently experiencing problems trying to import iPhone 4 video into After Effects CS5.
Firstly i'd like to note that the video plays perfectly fine on the iPhone, VLC and in Quicktime Player. The audio and video is in sync.
When I add the footage to After Effects the video becomes slightly out of sync with the audio. I have noticed this in RAM preview and also in renders I did just to test.
I also want to note that, both my iPhone and After Effects have latest software updates.
    Thanks for your help

    Thanks Rick and Mylenium
    Thanks that worked!
I thought that changing the frame rate in the composition settings would have worked.
Instead what I should have done is to go the the footage in the Project Panel then right-click on the footage > Interpret Footage > Main... then Conform to frame rate: Frame rate: 23.986607 (or whatever more accurate frame rate your footage actually is)
I used the more accurate frame rate reading from VLC which went to 5 decimal places. I got that info from the top menu in Tools > Codec Information
Its a shame AE doesn't  pick up on the more accurate fps. It seems that all the videos from my iPhone 4 have slightly different frame rates and I guess I will have to interpret each clip properly.
I hear that the frame rate on the iPhone 4 is different depending on the lighting? I wonder why that would be the case?
Hope this helps anybody else that might face this problem.
    Cheers

  • When I import my footage, the audio track disappears!

I have footage taken with my Canon vixia hfs11.  Footage looks great.  However, when I import the footage into Premeire Pro CS6, the audio track disappears.  I have used the Media Browser to import and import under file.  Nothing works.  The file is a MTS.  Please help!

As Karsten Schlüter, says MPEG Streamclip is a great way to make sure the video is as compatible as possible. You can also try downloading to multimedia helpers like DivX (in the case of some Xvid/Divx MP4 formats). I have a Flip mino video camera that requires DivX to be installed to play them back. And once I installed it the videos would be editable in iMovie '11. Something to try.

  • We use p2 cameras and fcx will not import the footage. so my question is why does p2 format cause me so much grief when it comes to importing in X

Can someone tell me the secret in importing p2 footage into fcx. Never had a problem until now.

thanks but when i went to download additional content it did not give me an option to download anything with new codecs

  • Adobe 1.0 crashes upon importing iPhone 4 .mov

Hello all, if anyone could lend a hand, I would sincerely be grateful. I really want to give someone a star!
I have an old version of PPro --- v 1.0 (v7.0) --- and I have also installed Quicktime Pro 7 on my Windows XP. I just got my iPhone 4 and was going to try to see if Adobe would edit the .mov files from it.
I've tried importing the .mov files a hundred different ways - been trying to convert with Quicktime to a different codec/compression type other than H.264 but alas, every single time PPro crashes with the pop-up "Sorry a serious error...We will attempt to save.. Yadayada"
The weird thing is that, since I installed Quicktime, I now have the option in PPro's Media Encoder to EXPORT a .mov at H.264!  So... I can export but not import iPhone 4 files? Sooooo confused.
    Edit****
Also, I can even see the thumbnail preview of the movie footage in the Project window right after I import the video for about 1/2 a second and then BAM! Crash.

CODEC's can be tricky little buggers. This ARTICLE will give you some background.
Question: Is there any way I can upgrade to PPro 1.5 for free/cheap?
I do not know what the upgrade path would be from PrPro 1.0/7.0, but it would be to CS5, which is current. Other than finding a legit copy of PrPro 1.5, there will be no official Adobe upgrade path to that older version. Even with CS5, things get tricky, as it will ONLY run on a 64-bit OS.
As for the version of QT Pro, my "last known good version" was 7.5.5. With newer versions of PrPro, some users have had great luck with newer versions of QT, but not all. For that reason, I have not updated my QT Pro from 7.5.5, and have not updated my iTunes either, as it wants the latest version of QT. In my case (iPods only), the older versions work fine. There might be some "features" that I am missing, but as I do not know what they are, I don't really "miss" them - at least not yet.
Now, one option would be to use QT Pro to do an Export of the H.264 material to DV-AVI (SD resolution, and NOT HD), and then Import those files.
As for the crashing of PrPro, there could be other things afoot, besides a CODEC incompatibility, though that would be my first suspect. Conversion, outside of PrPro, might be able to get you past that, but you will most likely loose the HD aspect of those files.
Just on the off-chance that it's something to do with your resources, this ARTICLE might offer some tips.
Sometimes, older technology just clashes with newer technology. The trick is to find the most painless way to interface the two, if it's possible at all. Legacy hardware, or software can be tricky.
Good luck, and wish that I had some quick, cheap and easy solution.

  • Iphone footage into Final Cut Express

I left a question earlier in this forum and would like to update (hopefully that's proper process!). I'll repeat the question, in case:
I'm trying to get footage from iPhone 4 to Final Cut Express. I'm using MPEG Streamclip 1.9.2. In the tutorial I found, they did an export to Quicktime, selecting the Apple Intermediate Codec as the compression, 29.97 as the Frame, and "1280 x 720 (unscaled)" as the frame size option (I'm also selecting frame blending and better downscaling, and turning off interlaced scaling; the rest are Streamclip defaults). My version of Streamclip doesn't have a 1280x720 (unscaled), so I've been forced to select 1280x720 (HDTV 720P). Not sure if this is my problem.
On recent attempts, I've managed to get the clip into a QuickTime format (using the settings above) in a way that doesn't look stretched (can't tell whether it is or not). When I import the clip into FCE, it comes in without having to be rendered, and looks as if it's not stretched there either. But as soon as I drop the clip into the sequence and try to play it, I get the "Dropped Frames" warning. I'm already operating in RT Safe mode, and rarely/never have problems w/ dropped frames with clips that were captured from my Sony camera/tape. Is the AIC codec more demanding of faster drives? (I'm using a 200Gig external Apple drive at the moment). Or is it because I have been forced to export as a 1280x720 HDTV 720p as opposed to unscaled?
In FCE I've set easy set up to:
Apple Intermediate Codec, 29.97, and HDV AIC 720 p30; Is this a match with the Export QT version?
And if so, would the clip be coming into my sequence without having to be rendered? Since I haven't had to upgrade my hardware for my other camera, I'd be reluctant to go out and buy more external disk power, in the event it doesn't do me any good.
I know there are several posts on people trying to get iphone footage into FCE already, but they don't seem to apply and, after hours on the internet looking for a solution, I'm at my wits end. PLEASE HELP
    Thanks in advance!!

The 4s records video as MPEG4/AVC (H.264)/1080p/30fps in a .mov filetype.   Final Cut Express is NOT designed to edit this kind of video.  You need to convert the 4s video clips to QuickTime/Apple Intermediate Codec/1080i before importing them into FCE.  You can use MPEG Streamclip to do the conversion.  In FCE you also need to select a matching Easy Setup (should be AVCHD Apple Intermediate Codec 1920x1080i60 for converted 4s clips) and create a new Sequence to edit your video.  This should eliminate the constant re-rendering problem.
ps.  Final Cut Express was discontinued in 2011 even before OS X Lion was released. It is no longer supported by Apple and there is no guarantee it will run properly on Yosemite.  Just so you know.  Final Cut Pro X is the currently supported app.

The Premiere Elements learning curve is a serious matter. Nothing to be taken lightly or taken for granted. Every question is important, small or large. Never hesitate to ask a question. Every answer is always obvious once you have been there and done that. I often reflect on "the measure of a smart person is not what he/she knows but rather what he/she knows that they do not know". All that said, let us move forward zealously to get you moving forward with your project with some fine tuned communication.
I have gone back and reread your whole thread. I think the light bulb may have lit here and that I bypassed the following.
When  I  open  the  Organize  and  view  videos  section  that  is  supposed  to  show  ALL  my  imports.
All  that  are  fully  showing  are  the  pictures...  ALL  The  Videos  are  located  in  a  "BLANK"  box  on  that  same  screen.
Again,   If  I  select  the  "make  movies"  option   the  videos  are  able  to  be  dragged  down  to  the  timeline,  where  they  fully  appear. However,  I  cannot  view  them  in  the  selection  area
On my re-read of your thread, it appears that your blank box is not in Project Assets in the Expert workspace of Premiere Elements 12 Editor. It is in the Elements Organizer 12 which is part of Premiere Elements 12. Is that correct? If it is,
    a. if you double click the blank thumbnail in that Elements Organizer 12, can you play back the video file there?
And, what you are saying is that when you open this Elements Organizer 12 blank box in Premiere Elements 12 Expert workspace, you see the video and hear the audio just fine. Is that what is going on?
Video thumbnail problem in the Elements Organizer is a frequent report. That is why details, such as the file extension of the file involved, are so important along with the other properties of the file.
One way around this is to use Premiere Elements 12 Expert workspace Add Files and Folders (from computer hard drive) to get your file into Project Assets from where you drag it to the Timeline. Does that work for you?
Before I go on and on, let us see if we are in sync on this.
Your help on this is appreciated.
    Thanks.

  • Need help importing HD footage from external hard drive

I have an external hard drive with some footage from a friend. I cannot view the footage either in QT or through importing to FCP. I have version 4.5 of FCP HD. The audio works on the clips, but the video does not. Im guessing it might be a format issue, as the footage is HD footage shot at 24P. I've tried opening a separate timeline and changing the settings there, but that didnt seem to work. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm guessing that the footage is HDV, and FCP 4.5 cannot work with HDV. That format came out over a year after FCP 4.5 was released. FCP 4.5 was dubbed FCP HD because it worked with DVCPRO HD footage natively. HDV support didn't hit FCP until 5.0.
You have options. Because HDV came out when FCP 4.5 was in use and didn't work with it, a couple companies made solutions to import this footage. www.lumierehd.com and www.hdvxdv.com.
BUT...that will get you the HDV footage at 29.97...60i. HDV 24p support didn't arrive until FCP 5.1.2. So you can try those solutions and see what happens, but most likely you'll have to upgrade to the latest version of FCP...6.0.2

  • How can I Import 2 channel audio from a Sony PMW300 camera?

How can I Import 2 channel audio from a Sony PMW300 camera?

    Terry Woolf
    Thanks for the reply.
The link to your prior thread is
    Audio
I suspect that the issue of no audio for your .mp4 file goes to your conversion method MXF to .mp4.
Please excuse if I am saying what you already know. When you import your video into Premiere Elements (in your case 12 Mac), a project
preset is established, either by you manually or the project automatically. That project preset contains a description of the project settings
for audio as well as video. Unless you select one of the project presets which are described for use with 5.1 channel, your audio in video audio
imports into a stereo project. It is in the export area that you will find your opportunity to customize (if necessary) the settings for audio.
In the project, if applicable to your situation, you can duplicate an audio channel (See Fill Left or Fill Right under fx Effects/Audio Effects).
Please let me ask this to make sure of the details.
If you import your .mp4 with 2 channel audio (derived from your .mxf convert and dragged to Video Track 1/Audio Track 1) and cannot hear the sound....
    a. do you see any evidence for an audio file in the Timeline Audio track 1?
    b. if you do, how many wave forms do you see, one or two?
    c. if you have the audio meters opened while you are playing back the Timeline content in Edit area, do you see 1 or 2 channels and is
    there activity in both.
    d. when you import the file into Project Assets, do you observe any conforming activity going on in progress bar in the lower right cover of the workspace...if
so, do you wait for it to go to completion before continuing on?
We could also try deleting the conformed audio in the Media Cache Files Folder to force the program to re-conform the audio. See Edit Menu/Preferences/Scratch Disks should show you the location of the Media Cache Files Folder whose contents you will be deleting.
Please review and consider, and then let me know if I targeted your question. If not, please do not hesitate to let me know, and I will rethink my reply based
    on your response.
    Thank you.

  • How to import 1080i60 footage in FCE?

This is the continuation of a former question where I was wondering about the crappy results of exporting a sequence from FCE. Turns out that the problem occurs much earlier, during import.
So here it goes: I have a Sony CV550V camcorder recording in 1080i60 AVCHD. I use FCE Log and Transfer to import the footage. At this early stage ALREADY, I can see the fields offset with respect to one another in the Log and Transfer preview window. If I look at the footage by connecting my camcorder to my HD TV, I see no such artifact.
I looked at the FCE manual, tried all options of the Log and Transfer window (ZERO as far as I can see), but it does not seem that I have any choice on how FCE imports 1080i60 AVCHD footage. Am I doomed? I have heard from users of Sony Vegas software for instance, and they do not have such artifacts...
    Thanks for your advice.

"Completely wrong" is a bit harsh, but indeed the whole issue is addressed in threadID=2497894 "How to export/convert FCE movies into AVCHD format?"

  • How to import 2 separate audio tracks and keep them separate?

I need advice about importing two separate simultaneous audio tracks and keeping them separate. I am importing footage from my Sony PDX-10 DV Cam.
In the field I had wireless microphones on two people, a man and woman. I interviewed them separately. The man was on channel 1 and the woman was on channel 2.
While shooting the man, for example, I could also hear the open mic of the woman who was maybe a block away talking to some friends. But her distracting sound was on CH 2 and in playback on the camera, if I dial down the volume of CH 2, I no longer hear the woman and I have a clean audio track, Ch 1, of the man who is being filmed.
I'm trying to import the interviews into iMovies with only the relevant track turned up and the distracting track turned down. When I listen to the audio from the camera on my headsets, I can get clean sound of just the person who is on camera. But the FIREWIRE seems to grab both tracks, even though in playback i'm listening only to the clean track.
Does anyone know how I can send just one audio track to IMovie? Any way to prevent the Firewire from importing both Ch 1 and Ch 2 at the same time?
I only want the sound that's relevant to the person who is on camera. And I know that in the camera, it's possible to listen to just the track from one channel. I'm hearing just one track through the headsets, because I can sucessfully dial down the other track. That's the way I want to import the footage to iMovie. But the FIrewire seems to grab all the sound it can find and carry over both CH 1 and CH 2, which means I'm left with a jumble of sound that is not useful.
And finally, if the firewire needs to grab both tracks, is there a way to assign them to two separate tracks in iMovie, so I can then simply turn one of the tracks off?

    nope.
iM handles the two stereo-channels as "one track", and offers 3 tracks of stereo.. (the one inside the video, 2 additional tracks...)
    I would... :
    * export clip(s) share/Quicktime/Expert Settings/aiff..
    * in a designated audio processor (Garageband, Audacity, ...) seperate the two channels, creating two "new" ones, stereo, where one channel is located in the stereo middle..
    * import these two "stereo" files into iM, into Track2 and Track 3 ...
    .. boom!done

  • Debug Event when importing HDV footage

    In short:
When I try to import HDV footage into a project (.mpeg format),
    I receive the following message:
    Premiere Pro Debug Event
premiere pro has encountered an error.
    [..\..\src\time.cpp-105]
Subsequently premiere fails to import the files...
I first noticed this problem last week, so I thought it might
be related to a product update. But even when uninstalling Premiere
Pro and re-installing it (thus being version 3.0) the problem
still exists. Updating to 3.2 doesn't solve the issue either.
    Does anyone recognize this issue?

  • Error importing XDCAM Footage

    Hi guys,
Were having a massive problem with CS6 here, we can no longer import XDCAM footage using the media browser directly from the deck, or from a copy of the disc on a harddrive.
The problem is occuring on mac and PC, We have 10 seats of premiere, it occurs on all of them.
All the suites are up to date, and we dont have any weird codec packs installed.
Im totally stuck on this, and its become a major issue as a lot of our clients bring in media on XDCAM and we dont have the time to transcode hours of footage when premiere is supposed to import it natively.

In CS5, I get an error for one file:
The rest of the files import like this in CS5...
all audio files are either flatline or noise, duration: 21:10
with one video file of bars duration: 21:09

  • Import DVD footage?  Encore/Premiere/AfterEffects?

Hi.  I have a project to remap the sound for DVD video footage.  How can I import this footage into a QuickTime format or any other format that one of my Creative Suite 4 or 5 products will recognize?  Once I import the footage I can refoley/remap the sound by changing its soundtrack using either the Audio Software that I have exclusively or along timecode and match the audio from the Audio Software in a video suite such as Premiere or preferably After Effects (with which I'm more familiar).  Is this possible?  Do I need a DVD ripping software instead?  What are this forum's members' suggestions?
    Any help is appreciated.
