Import is no longer on the file menu after upgrade to 10..what gives?

After ex[eriencing some issues with a previous version of Firefox on my Mac I switched to Safari. I still prefer Firefox and decided to switch back after recent upgrade to 10.0.
I would like to import bookmarks from Safari to Firefox, however 'import' is no longer listed under the File menu.
So how do I import bookmarks now?

Hi jrmahlst,
You should try hitting ''Command + Shift+B'' to open the bookmarks menu. Then you can click on the star shaped menu item to find your import/export options.
The [[Importing bookmarks and other data from other browsers]] Knowledge Base article will give you more detailed information.
Hopefully this helps!

  • I can no longer find the tones menu after upgrade to IOS6

Ever since my upgrade to iOS6.1 I can no longer see my ringtones in iTunes.  I still have it and can see it in my computer files but there is no Tones menu in the library of iTunes.  I've tried to just readd the folder but it did nothing.  I have my phone set to manually add music and videos and so each time I try to check sync tones it tries to erase everything else and remove the manual option.  And without the tones menu I can't find the ringtone to manually readd it to the phone.

I found my answer in another posting.  There were two options.  The first didn't help but the second did but both still good information.
Ringtones library is now called Tones. If you don't see Tones under the Library, go to iTunes menu EDIT>Preferences>check the Tones box under General tab, sources then click ok
iTunes>View>Show Sidebar...Tones should be listed here under Library.

  • My bookmarks have vanished. I want to re-import from Safari. But the "Import" command in the File menu is not available. What's up?

Firefox works fine. However, my bookmarks toolbar is marked as <empty>. Didn't used to be. I have no idea where they've gone.
So rather than dwell on the loss, I thought I'd move ahead by importing the bookmarks I have in Safari over to Firefox. No luck, the "import" command on the File menu is de-highlighted. I cannot select it.

    * Make sure that you not run Firefox in (permanent) [[Private Browsing]] mode
    * In Private Browsing mode some menu items are disabled (grayed) and features like visited links are disabled and not showing
    * You are in Private Browsing mode if you see "Tools > Stop Private Browsing", possibly grayed
    * You enter Private Browsing mode if you select: Firefox > Preferences > Privacy > History: Firefox will: "Never Remember History"
    * To see all History and Cookie settings, choose: Firefox > Preferences > Privacy, choose the setting <b>Firefox will: Use custom settings for history</b>

  • HT2905 I updated the latest itunes software and Display Duplicates is no longer under the file menu. How do I get rid of all the duplicates?

I just upgraded the itunes on my PC and the display duplicates option is no longer found under the FILE menu. How do I get rid of the MANY duplicate songs I have in my library with out the display duplicates option? HELP

Use Shift > View > Show Exact Duplicate Items to display duplicates as this is normally a more useful selection. You need to manually select all but one of each group to remove. Sorting the list by Date Added may make it easier to select the appropriate tracks, however this works best when performed immediately after the dupes have been created.  If you have multiple entries in iTunes connected to the same file on the hard drive then don't send to the recycle bin. Use my DeDuper script if you're not sure, don't want to do it by hand, or want to preserve ratings, play counts and playlist membership. See thisthread for background and please take note of the warning tobackup your library before deduping.
(If you don't see the menu bar press ALT to show it temporarily or CTRL+B to keep it displayed)
Note if some of the duplicate items have the iCloud link icon sign out of the store, then sign in again.

  • Using "wizard" on a Mac OS X with Snow Leopard, importing bookmarks from Safari to Firefox should be seamless. Yet, when I try to select "Import..." under the File menu, the item is dimmed (unavailable) and unresponsive. Am I missing something obvious?

No more details. As indicated, the import function seems to be disabled.

I'm having difficulty visualizing what is wrong but try some basic steps first:
Launch Safari while holding a Shift key - this will start Safari with just your Home page
If you can see Reset Safari from the Safari menu, try that.
In addition to downloading and installing Safari again, try reapplying just the Snow Leopard Combo Update: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399 There is no need to uninstall Safari first.
Lastly try deleting Safari's Preferences file: ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Safari.plist

  • I upgraded yesterday so why is the "close tab" no longer on the File menu? How do I close one tab without exiting Firefox?

the "close tab" option is not on the File drop-down menu today. It was before I upgraded yesterday to the new version of firefox. So how do I close one tab?

Ctrl W did the trick and I think I should be able to remember that. Right click menu when the document or site is open on the screen doesn't work, but it does from the taskbar menu above. Either way, I know what to do now. Thank you.

  • Cannot choose "Import" on the file menu - not highlighted

trying to import bookmarks from IE - on the file menu of Firefox the "Import" choice is not highlighted and cannot be selected - why? This may be a basic error on my part somewhere .

Try importing them via the bookmarks organizer.
    # In the menus select "Bookmarks", and then "Organize Bookmarks..." to open the bookmarks organizer (also known as the Library)
    # In the Library select "Import and Backup" and then "Import HTML"
Does this give you the option to import from Internet Explorer?
If it does not, export the favorites in IE to an HTML file, and then import the HTML file into Firefox. This process is described in the [[Importing Internet Explorer Favorites from another computer]] article.

You also export the Favorites in IE to an HTML file and import that file in the Firefox Bookmarks Manager.
    * Export the favorites in IE to an HTML file (bookmarks.html): File > Import and Export
    * Import the HTML file in Firefox: Bookmarks > Organize Bookmarks > Import & Backup > Import HTML: From File

  • To import bookmarks from Safari, Help says to select Import from the File menu, but there is no Import option there. What then is the first step to import Safari bookmarks?.

I was reading from the Help menu which does provide the warning that the material may be outdated since it is not supported.

The Import option has been moved from the File menu to the Library window; that article needs to be revised.
*''Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks'' to open the Library window
*In the Library window, ''Import and Backup > Import Data from Another Browser''
