Import iTunes Library to Creative Xtr

Hi all,
I have a creative Xtra MP3 Player. Like many others I don't like Mediasource (The guy that designed it should be sent to Siberia or so). That's why I use iTunes on my WIN PC. My question:
Can I import the iTunes library on my Creative Xtra (which I do like)?
Thanks in advance,
Fred

Nope. iTunes won't interface with the Xtra.
There's various other software you can use to copy tracks to the Xtra, listed here in the Zen FAQ at Nomadness.net.Message Edited by SSR on 05-04-2005 04:36 AM

  • Importing Itunes Library - Itunes crash

Hi, I received an "Importing iTunes Library" pop-up when opening iTunes. It does it's stuff for awhile, and then replies with "iTunes library is corrupt." I replaced it with my latest backup (from last night) It is a regular computer backup, not an iTunes backup, and I still get the same response. I replaced the entire iTunes folder in Windows (not the music itself) I have the latest iTunes software
    Please help! Thanks

  • Need to import iTunes library, but can't "consolidate" first

I recently downloaded iTunes 7. Shortly thereafter, the program would unexpectedly quit within a minute of starting up iTunes. After so many times, my hard drive lost its ability to start up. With the help of Tech Support, I used Disc Utility from the Tiger Install DVD to determine that the drive was problematic and that I should copy files off of it before losing them forever. I now have a new hard drive installed and am able to read off of the old one through an external hard drive enclosure via USB. I have looked at how to move an iTunes library, but everything I read says that I need to start up from the old drive, open iTunes and "Consolidate Library..." (under Advanced). I CAN'T DO THIS!!!! The best I have been able to come up with is to open the new iTunes on the new hard drive and import from the old one. This gets me all the songs, but no playlists. THEN I import the .xml file and this gets me my playlists and fills up what it can. I can't figure out how to import all my ratings and without those ratings, some of my Smart Lists have no songs in them. So my first problem is: How do I get the ratings back? I also have a second problem: I had to "authorize" the music I purchased from the iTunes Music Store. Will I have to "authorize" for each iPod I update on this machine??? I'm hoping someone can tell me the correct way for me to move my music to my new hard drive that includes all my ratings and stuff and gives me no loss of "authorizations". HELP!!!!
P.S. - Startup Disk does not give me the option to boot in OSX from the old hard drive. Strangely though, I do get the option of booting in OS9! Perhaps this means I just need to repair OSX on the drive somehow??? If it's easier, help me get my old hard drive to boot again in OSX, that would then allow me to "consolidate" my library and do it correctly.

Quit iTunes. Go to your user account/Library/Preferences folder and locate a file named "com.apple.iTunes.plist". Drag it to the trash.
Restart iTunes and the iTunes Setup Assistant will run again and you can select your choice for internet playback on the second screen.
You will have to goto iTunes > Preferences and reselect your preferences in each tab. The default general preference is to not show iTunes U, Books, Apps and Ringtones libraries, so if you want to see them, be sure to check them off.

  • Can't import iTunes Library.xml to rebuild library in iTunes 7.5 - why?

    Hi,
I did an "erase & install" with Leopard because I got kernel panics with 10.4.11, and whenever I try to import my old iTunes Library.xml (which weighs more than 45 Mo) to rebuild my library in iTunes 7.5 as indicated in the kb, I get a new kernel panic before it can complete the process, usually between the 10th and 15th minute. This happens even with extensions removed, and with permissions repaired.
However, I noticed that when I interrupt the process, the partial file I get is functional and I get access to a random portion of my library...
    Does anybody have a tip?
My library is really important for me, especially the playlists, which I have saved separately one by one. Does anyone know if they would work if reimported with a library rebuilt from scratch by dragging and dropping my music files in iTunes?
Thanks for your help, I know it's a lot to ask...
    Ben

You should be able to create a new Library file by doing the drag and drop of your music files as you describe. I would do them about 50 albums at a time to start with.
You might want to start by quitting iTunes and going to the /Your Home/Music/iTunes Music folder and moving the "iTunes Library" itl and "iTunes Music Library.xml" to your Desktop. Then launch iTunes to create new blank ones. Set your iTunes preferences and so forth before you begin. Do a few and make sure you are getting the results you are expecting. In other words do you want iTunes to move your music files to the default location, etc.
You may need to recreate your playlists when done if you do not have the individual xml files to re-import.

  • Tried to import iTunes library from desktop to laptop via Homesharing but everything didn't import.  How do I get missing content?

The whole story: I tried to transfer my iTunes library via Homeshare from my desktop to my laptop but not all of my library imported.  Both computers are authorized and almost all of the 99GB of music was imported from my own cds. I couldn't tell what was missing and I figured a computer person would have an easy way to figure this out.  In the meantime, I added about 20-25 more cds to the library on the laptop.  I had a computer guy come out because I wanted to merge the two libraries so I can get rid of the desktop.  He dragged and dropped several folders onto the external hard drive and then dragged and dropped those into my music folder on the laptop.  Now I have a big mess!  I have tons of duplicates, but the entire library didn't duplicate so I am still not sure if all of my music made it over. He wants to delete all of the duplicates but I explained that I don't want to break up albums and I had already gone through the process of finding "exact duplicates" and deleting those on the desktop before I started all of this.  I talked to a Geek Squad guy at Best Buy who suggested I delete everthing from the laptop and start over.  He wants me to open iTunes on my desktop and select all, then drag that to a new folder on the external hard drive.  Then reinstall iTunes on the laptop and drag and drop that folder into it. I have no idea what to do at this point.  Any suggestions would be much appreciated.  Please know that I am not very computer literate so please type slowly so that I will understand ;-)  Thanks
Sidenote:  I did sign up for IMatch and had Apple scan both libraries.  Not all of my music showed up there either.  I am missing entire albums, etc. and I have not reached the maximum limit, 25,0000 songs. Should I purchase TuneUp Media to fix any metadata once I get my complete library onto my laptop?  I just want my entire library together, in one place so that I can move forward and back it up properly. Thanks for any help.

Delete whatever was imported to the new computer via HomeSharing.
Stop using HomeSharing to move content.
Copy the ENTIRE iTunes folder from the old computer to the new computer.
    Launch iTunes.
Everything in iTunes on the new computer will be exactly as it was on the old computer.

  • How do I import iTunes library from old PC to new PC using Home Sharing?

I have an old PC with the latest version of iTunes. I have a new PC with an empty new version of iTunes. How do I import the library to the new PC iTunes? • Import iTunes Library from External Drive to New Computer with Vista

I can't seem to "import" my entire iTunes library from my external hard drive to my new computer. However, I can import songs one-by-one. There must be a way to transfer the whole file at once but it is beyond me. Anyone have a solution?

Hi I am new and have found a way to import Files & Folders over my home network and or other drives.
Start in File, click "Add File to Library", or "Add Folder to Library". In the “look in” dropdown window, locate the File or folder and double click on it. It should begin to transfer. I have never transferred an enter library though.
    On a personal note,
I have come to realize that I can only transfer iTunes music. I can not transfer or even find the music that I have installed from a CD into my iTunes library. iTunes dose recognize even the folder that such music is in. If any of you have an answer to this problem let me know.
    Thanks

  • Importing iTunes library from an external hard drive backup

    Hi,
I would like to know how I can import my iTunes library from a backup on a external hard drive?
If that's possible, I would like to keep organisation of files, playlists, iphone settings...
I had a crash with my previous computer and I would like to keep all iTunes settings as before.
There might be already a subject about this but I did not found it.
    Thank you for your help,
    Simon

In Preferences/Advanced/General point iTunes to the folder on your external hard drive.
Check Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library. This will put all new additions on your external hard drive.
Now click File/Add to Library and point to the folder on the external hard drive. With 200 GB's of music you will think iTunes has frozen,. It hasn't. It will take several minutes to process everything.

  • How to import ITunes library from external drive

Using Mac, Leopard, Time Machine, my hard drive crashed Had a recent backup on Time Machine. New computer doesn't recognize last backup of TM on external hard drive, but I can find my ITunes Library there, with thousands of songs.
when I go in ITunes to Import Library and navigate to the old ITunes Library, it won't let me import the whole thing, only lets me import one song at a time, which would take eons.
Any suggestions on how to do it in one fell swoop?

I'm sure that solution would work, but I guess something else I did is messing things up.
the first tip I got was to Consolidate Library. It forced me to consolidate on another partition of my external hard drive. Now that I tried Add Library, it's putting all the music on that external location, which filled up fast and can't take anymore.
Any thought on how to get my full library back on my internal drive?

  • Importing iTunes library from old powerbook to new macbook pro

What is the best way to import my old itunes library (from my 10.4.7 powerbook) to my new macbook pro?
    Thanks!

I'm still having some trouble, can someone give me guidance? Here is what I did:
    1. Connected old mac (PowerBook G4) to new mac (MacBook Pro) via firewire 800 and target mode.
    2. Located "iTunes Music" folder on old Mac and pulled the entire folder into "iTunes Music" on the new Mac.
    3. I restarted.
    4. iTunes didn't find the new music, it does find the one song I've purchased using the new Mac. I think this makes sense, because now the folder structure has an embedded "iTunes Music" folder (from the old Mac) in my new mac's "iTunes Music" folder. The structure looks like:
    -iTunes Music
----[folder for the one song I've purchased on the new mac]
----iTunes Music (this is the folder from the old mac)
---------[folders of music from the old mac]
    5. So I went into the iTunes Music folder I just imported, selected all the music, and copied it one level up.
    6. The result is on my new mac, my "iTunes Music" folder now contains all the music from the old mac, plus the one song I've puchased using the new mac.
    7. I restarted my new mac. Restarted iTunes, but still the only song that's recognized is the one I've already purchased. The others aren't showing.
    8. I've gone into preferences/advanced and confirmed I'm pointing at the right target folder.
Any thoughts on what I'm doing wrong here?

  • Frustrated with importing iTunes library to a second PC

    Hello,
I have a very large iTunes library on my home PC, which contains extensive playlists and ratings. I have always had a second copy of my library on an external hard drive which I use at work, and have always been able to copy the iTunes library.itl and iTunes Music Library.xml files over to the work PC every time I updated my external hard drive.
I have today upgraded my work PC to a Windows 7 workstation, and have installed the latest version of iTunes. I made a fresh copy of my iTunes library onto my external hard drive (I spent a lot of time this past week digitizing about 20 record albums). I copied over the iTunes library itl and xml files.
I've had absolutely no luck with this. I've tried setting up iTunes to point to the external drive as the place where the music is located, and I've tried copying everything to the workstation's C drive where iTunes would expect it to be by default. Nothing seems to be working - every song on my playlist has the exclamation point next to it saying iTunes cannot find the file. I've noticed that the file location that iTunes gives for each song is usually incorrect in some way - most of the time, iTunes thinks the file path to each song starts with File:\\LocalHost before going to the actual file path.
I have tried editing the xml file to make sure the path is correct, and then importing the xml file - and when it does that, it appears to have the correct location for each file, and the exclamation points are gone - but when I try to play a song, I get a status bar saying "opening URL" and then nothing happens. And, instead of the exclamation mark next to each song, I now have the symbol you see next to a Podcast (sorry, don't know what it is called.)
I have also tried just letting iTunes rebuild the library based on the files I copied to the C drive, but this is not an acceptable solution because none of the playlists or ratings carry over. And, as the library has well over 15,000 items in it, (all of my CD collection and about half of my vinyl collection), I cannot sit there and manually point to each song, either.
Does anyone have any hints about where I can go from here?

    Hi there...
The file://localhost bit it telling you where iTunes "thinks" the file should be and that it doesn't appear to be there. Depending on how you messed around with things you could have created the situation where iTunes had two links to the same physical file. Cleaning one "duplicate" breaks the remaining entry. There is also a situation where a setting gets changed causing iTunes to "think" that files are in the pre-iTunes 9 layout, when they are in the new one, or vice-versa. Comparing the expected location with the true one may reveal if that is the problem, or if some other manual folder move needs to be undone.
If the tracks can be found somewhere, and they are in a reasonably sensible structure, my script FindTracks can often reconnect them to iTunes.
    As for deduping...
Apple's official advice is here... HT2905 - How to find and remove duplicate items in your iTunes library. It is a manual process and the article fails to explain some of the potential pitfalls.
Use Shift > View > Show Exact Duplicate Items to display duplicates as this is normally a more useful selection. You need to manually select all but one of each group to remove. Sorting the list by Date Added may make it easier to select the appropriate tracks, however this works best when performed immediately after the dupes have been created.  If you have multiple entries in iTunes connected to the same file on the hard drive then don't send to the recycle bin.
Use my DeDuper script if you're not sure, don't want to do it by hand, or want to preserve ratings, play counts and playlist membership. See this thread for background and please take note of the warning to backup your library before deduping.
(If you don't see the menu bar press ALT to show it temporarily or CTRL+B to keep it displayed)
BTW the links to my older posts are working for me.

  • "Date Added" gets reset when importing iTunes library

I have recently made the switch from a PC to a MacBook. I copied my previous iTunes Music Library.xml file over and followed the Apple instructions to import all my music ratings, playcounts, etc. in to the new iTunes library (deleting the iTunes Library.itl file and importing the old library through Library>Import Playlist). Everything copied over fine except the "Date Added," which resets to today's date. I also tried copy & pasting the old library text into the new iTunes Library.xml file, and it still reset itself once I opened iTunes. I have used this process before in switching to a new PC and it kept the "Date Added" information.
Does anyone know if this is an issue with the new versions of iTunes? The version is 8.0.2. Or is it an issue with switching from PC to Mac? More importantly, does anyone have any ideas on how to keep my "Date Added"? I use it regularly for sorting music and for Smart Playlists.
    Any help would be appreciated!

I'll second the question! I just moved my music from my MBP to my new iMac, and the date added is today's date for all of the songs from my library on my MBP. Please post if you find answer redhead828. Thanks!

  • Importing Itunes library to another ipod

Can I import songs from my itunes library to my son's ipod. If so, how?

Just connect the iPod to your computer, if it is set to update automatically then they will load on without you having to do anything. If you want to be more precise about what goes on then set it to either manual update or to sync a selected playlist. In manual mode you can drag and drop what you want from the library to the iPod. Syncing selected playlists is just like syncing your whole library only on a smaller scale and more "selectively". When your iPod is is set to sync selected playlists it automatically picks up any changes you made to the playlist(s) you have set up in iTunes since you last connected. Anything you added to the playlist(s) will be added to the iPod, anything you deleted from it will be deleted from the iPod. In other words the iTunes playlist and the iPod are kept "in sync":
Loading songs onto iPod automatically - Windows
    Managing content manually on iPod

  • Importing iTunes Library from Older iBook to New iMac

My old iBook (700 MHz G3) had a severe hard drive failure, but I did manage to transfer via firewire the entire MUSIC folder and the entire PICTURES folder, as well other data I needed.
The question remains: How do I import the iTunes Library from the older iBook into the new iMac iTunes Library? As far as I can tell, I have to do it song by song. That can't be right.
    Any ideas?

If you copied your entire itunes folder from your old mac you can copy it to your new mac. The key is the library (xml) file.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93732
You need the library (xml) file also. When you open iTunes you might have to tell it where the xml file is.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304447
I used the same process to transfer the music library from my old mac to my new one.
    Hope this helps.
