Import jpeg files into iPhoto library - closes iPhoto

I scanned some images and saved them as jpeg. They will open and display fine using various applications. When I try to use File > Import from iPhoto 6, iPhoto closes without importing the file. When I reopen iPhoto, a message tells me that an image file in the library failed to import and I'm prompted to import it. Why I say yes, it again closes without importing.
I've tried this with numerous files, always with the same result. And this also occurs if I use the drag & drop method, rather than using the imprt function.
Any suggestions? I'm running OS X 10.3.9
Mac Mini   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Your suggestion led me to the solution, I think. Thank you.
The original scans were VERY large (about 4 MB each) and were stored in .JP2 format (a .JPEG format updated in 2000 to reduce lossiness.) They "choked" iPhoto.
I re-saved them in uncompressed .TIF format and also saved resized versions of under 1 MB each.
Result: As .TIF files, iPhoto accepted both the large (as big as 6.2 MB) and the smaller (1 MB) files.
Theory: The problem was with the .JP2 and resaved .JPG files. I think that iPhoto won't deal with .JP2 formatted images, even if they have been resaved as regular .JPGs.

  • Importing .midi files into iTunes library

Hello! Can anyone please tell me how to import .midi files into my iTunes library, then convert those files into .mp3 to burn onto a CD?
    Thank you for your help!

Does this midi file play elsewhere?
I am getting the file from another location on my hard drive, not from a CD.
Doesn't matter. File -> Add file to library will work if the file is compatible.
Also, when trying to change the import settings, it seems to be for importing from a CD, not from another file location.
It is for importing or converting.

  • Importing PNG files into CS4

I import PNG files into the library. CS4 automatically creates a symbol and gives it a generic name (e.g. Symbol 670) when the PNG file name is menu_001.png. Is their any way for Flash to keep the name as the original png file as the symbol is automatically created?

It IS a Sony NX5U camera! Way to be a mind reader.
Obviously the video has already been shot. How would you suggest converting the audio to .wav... seperate the two in Pro, cut out the video, export that way, and then import it back in?
Thanks so much for the help!!

  • Cannot import PDF files into iPhoto 4.0.3

Is it possible to import PDF files into iPhoto 4.0.3? I can't drag and drop them into iphoto folders without the "Unreadable Files" error. I have tried importing them through the iPhoto menu and still get the same results. I have tried importing the PDF files from several places such as my desktop because I wondered if the location of the original made a difference, but that doesn't seem to help. I didn't find anything when I searched for this problem here in the forum so I wondered if anyone else is having the same problems.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Morgan

No because I had iPhoto 4 open and tried to run the Save PDF to iPhoto on a book in that library. I think it's just the different data structure, etc.. It's just not compatible with Automator or at least that particular workflow. I tried printing to PDF from V4 and then do the Save to iPhoto from Preview with V4 open and I still get the error message. So iPhoto 4 is just not compatible with that workflow.
A workaround is to create a PDF file of the whole book and then manually save each page as a jpg file and import those. That's what I did for my first book. You could do a screen shot of each page in the preview mode and use those but the resolution will be limited to screen resolution, 72dip. You will get resolutions on the order of 150-200 dpi thru the Save As route in Preview or the Save to iPhoto automator method.
I'm sure you could create an Automator workflow that would take the PDF file and save each page as a jpg file and name it sequentially. I'll have to take a closer look at Automator soon.

  • Can't import jpeg files to iPhoto

iPhoto will not recognise my jpeg files. I am using iPhoto 9.6.1
How do I get the jpegs into iPhoto? Please help!

Open iPhoto. Select “Photos” in the sidebar (other selections, such as “Events”, will be greyed out upon import attempts):
Then, from the Menu Bar, File > Import to Library > [choose the jpeg files selectively or the folder containing them]

  • How can I import DNG files into iPhoto 8?

Shooting with a Canon Rebel XT, I've downloaded RAW files onto my hard drive, edited them in Adobe Camera Raw (ACR) and saved them as digital negatives (DNG) with the .dng extension. Bridge and iPhoto work with these just fine, but iPhoto doesn't seem to want to import them.
Aside from saving them as jpegs or TIFFs, is there any way to get these files to play nice with iPhoto 8?

I'm having the same problem with iPhoto after editing my images in Bridge and converting the files to DNG before importing to iPhoto. The metadata on the DNG file will not show up in iPhoto when I import DNG files. Yet, if I convert the DNG files to JPEG and import the JPEG files into iPhoto all the metadata and keywords in the original DNG files is imported. I use Bridge and CS3 for editing but want to use iPhoto for asset management.

  • Importing PDF files into iPhoto

I seem to remember being able to import pdf files into iPhoto; now I am unable to.
When I click on the pdf option in Print, "Save PDF to iPhoto" is one of the options given. If I click it, and try to save pdfs to iPhoto, I get a dialog box asking me to choose which album to import to. Whichever one I choose, I get an Applescript error, "file/private/temp/etc.etc.jpg was not found (-43)" .
If I create a pdf and drag it to iPhoto, I get an "Unreadable files" dialog box telling me "The following file could to be imported. (The file is in an unrecognized format.)"
And if I try to import via File––>Import, the pdfs are all greyed out.
    Any suggestions?
Would upgrading the OS to 10.4.5 or the iPhoto to 6.1 help? I'm temporarily abroad, and don't want to screw up the laptop if I can avoid it.

    luba:
That's been a bug with the Automator workflow ever since it's been introduced. Be sure to post that fact at the iPhoto feedback page: http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphoto.html.
I wanted to create a slideshow of a book that I created but had to open each page of the book and do a Save As, picking the jpg format, to be able to do what I wanted.

  • IPhoto crashes when I try to import jpeg files

I am trying to import jpeg files stored on the internal hard drive of my iBook G4. The jpegs were created in Photoshop Elements. I have imported such files before in previous versions of iPhoto. However, when I try to do this using iPhoto 6.0.5 the program crashes. I have tried several different photos each with the same result. Any ideas? Thank you .

Try setting the colour profile with Preview on one or two to see if that helps. If it does, then Old Toad has created an Automator Workflow that you can use. Simply drop the affected files onto the icon and it will embed an sRGB to the files. You can download the workflow from here:

  • Moved jpeg files to other folder, now iPhoto can't find them

I dragged/dropped some original jpeg files into a new folder to aggregate certain files together, but since they are now in a different folder iPhoto 9 can't find them. The thumbnails in iPhoto still remain, but results in the large black/grey "!" when I try to open them. I'd rather not rebuild the enormity of my entire photo library over this, so is there some other way to re-link thumbnails to files?
iTunes makes this easy with music. When I click on a file name and it can't find the file, it offers to allow me to locate the file myself, and then it re-establishes the link between the iTunes library item and the file. No problem.
How does one go about doing this in iPhoto for, say, a couple of dozen files without having to start over with an ENTIRE rebuild? I know exactly where the files are, and it seems ridiculous that iPhoto isn't equipped to track the whereabouts of an unchanged file that's simply been dragged from one folder to another.

Did you do the moving of the image file in the Finder or do you have a reference library as asked by Larry? In either case moving the files is a recipe for disaster as you've found out. You must either move the files back to their original locations or try to get those photos back into iPhoto as follows:
1 - Find the folder you moved the files into and COPY it to the Desktop.
2 - in iPhoto delete the photos that you're having the problems with as you normally would even though you can't see see them. Also delete all the photos that are in the folder you moved the other files into.
3 - drag the folder on the Desktop into iPhoto to import them as one event. If you get a duplicate warning I'd let it import the duplicate and use Duplicate Annihilator to find them so you can cull out the duplicate you don't want.
Other than that you might have to start over from scratch as follows:
Creating a new library while preserving the Events from the original library.
1 - Move the existing library folder to the desktop
2 - Open the library package like this.
3 - Launch iPhoto and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
4 - Drag the Originals folder from the iPhoto Library on the desktop into the open iPhoto window.
