Import Leopard address book data into Tiger

Is there any way to do this?

The Leopard address book database is not readable on Tiger. You can export vCards and import them in another version of the application as long as the formats are compatible. This won't preserve group memberships though.

  • How to import Tiger Address book data into Leopard?

How do I import the Address book data I had in Tiger, into Leopard. I backed up all my applications and the Application Support folder before I upgraded to Leopard but I can't find a way of importing the old data into the new program. I tried just copying the contents of the Address Book subfolder of Application Support but the new Leopard folder has completely different files in it....??
    Thanks

Like all user preferences they are in /Home/Library/Preferences/ folder.
    Here's some additional info:

  • How to import Windows address book (.wab) into e71...

How do I import email address from my Windows Mail (or Outlook Express) into my Nokia e71?
I can save the addresses as .csv or .wab file, but what next?
Please note I am not trying to build my phone contact book. I already have all names and phone numbers in there. I need to import email addres from my PC email client (Windows Mail) into my Nokia email client (either the one inbuilt into e71 or the new email messaging that I downloaded from email.nokia.com).
    Thanks.

    Me too (but 5800).
What's really annoying me is that I managed it when I got the phone but have since had to reset the phone, lost all contacts and now can't get them back.

  • How can I load iCal data into Calendar and Address Book data into Contacts?

I just bought a MacBook Pro running Yosemite. Migration Assistant could not read the Backup of my old, dead iMac, so I have been transferring data manually. So far Contacts and Calendar are the only Apps I have not been able to set up.

What OS was the iMac running? I ask because where data is stored can change.

  • How do I Export Address Book data?

Is there anyway to insert Address Book data into other (non-Apple) applications, e.g. Word?
I want to send out some letters and I would like each letter to have the recipiants address at the top of the letter. Even if I could export the data to Excel first would be OK but I only seem to be able to export vCards from Address Book and Excel (nor Word) can read them?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,

    Yink,
you can use some third-party applications to export Address Book data as plain text files (e.g., csv) which you should then be able to import without any problems in Excel and the like.
    Some options are:
    • Export Addresses from Mail Scripts

    • Address Book Exporter

  • I can't retrieve my address book data from G Drive to import to new addr book in Snow Leopard

I am really annoyed by Apple these days. Just had to purchase iwork and sundry other software after upgrading to Snow Leopard and the Lion on my system. Now, have just received my wife's iMac from being "fixed" the hard drive was brloken. It was supposed to have had Snow Leopard uploaded for me. It was not so I have just done that, however I can't get the address book fron the G Drive to upload to the new system. Each time I access the address book on the G drive I get a message saying that it is an old system (4.1.1) and will not open in this system. How do I get that data off the G Drive and onto the upgraded iMac?

Thank you for getting back to me.
I tried what you said. I moved my old address book file into my new hard drive but it still opens "empty".
When I look up my addresses in Spotlight it finds them and seems to recognize them at address book files but it doesn't want to open them. When I double click on them it opens address book but the not the file.
When I click on the file and look at "more info" on it, I can see the information is in there.
I don't want to loose all my contacts.
On a side note do you have any easy tips for backing up?
    Thank you again,
    Trent

  • Importing new Address Book into Address Book but keeping it separate.

I have an existing Address Book on my MacBook Pro and would like to import my office Address Book - BUT keep it as a separate group.  The office Address Book has over 1,000 names so it is a lot of work to import it and then, one by one, find, separate and add the names to a New Group.  Is there a way to import the new Address Book directly into its own Group?
    Both Address Books are Apple.
I understand that the new names will be a part of my existing Address Book when I am in the ALL Group.

Well you are correct - you cannot import into .Mac mail.
What you can do is import your .csv file into Address Book on a Mac and then Sync that Address Book with your .Mac information.
In Address Book the Import function is under the File menu.
To Sync use the .Mac preference pane in System Preferences.

  • Can I import my address book into Adobe Send?

How do I import my address book into Adobe Send?

    Hi propacific,
There is no way to port your address book into Adobe Send, but if you use Send through Adobe Reader, you can access your local address book. And, if you're on Windows, you can use the Outlook plug-in for Adobe Send so you can send directly from Outlook. You can download the plug-in from here: Send Large Files Online - Share, Control, Track & Manage | Adobe Send

  • Exporting/importing Address  Book data

    Hi;
Can we someone please tell me how to transfer my Address Book data from a G4 tower to a newer G5 tower? Thanks so much. -bjgroup.

Hi bjgroup, and a warm welcome to the forums!
On the G4 in Address Book, click on one address, then Select All, then from the File menu choose Export vCard, move that file to the G5 & in AB's File menu, choose Import>vCard.

  • I can´t import my address book.

Recently change from Tiger to Leopard. But I can´t import my address book.
I have the AddressBook.data file from Tiger, but I can´t import to Leopard. I deleted my user because was corrupt...
I only have this file to recover my address.
    Somebody help me!
    Thanks

Can you find someone still running Tiger? If so, get them to load your AddressBook.data file and export it as a vCard, which you can then import on Leopard.

  • Restoring address book data and mail

I wonder if anyone can help. I lost the hard drive of my iMac PowerPC G5 to a crash, from which no recovery was possible. Fortunately I had backed up all my data to a LaCie external hard drive. I have had the iMac hard drive replaced, and in the process the OS was upgraded from Tiger to Leopard.
I am now trying to restore data from the external drive to the iMac and am finding it challenging. I have found the address book data file but the icon is like a blank sheet of paper i.e. a file in an unsupported format. I have tried dragging and dropping into address book, but to no avail. I would also like to find my Safari bookmarks as well but worry that I will have exactly the same problems.
Alternatively should I just be dragging the whole library (myusername/library) into library on the new hard drive?
Any thoughts on this plus general tips on how to restore data much appreciated.

I have just followed your instructions for restoring Mail and Address Book files after I did an Erase and Istall. I didn't do a restore from my back up but reinstalled all the software from discs and am carefully bringing files back into my clean laptop bit by bit.
I got my address book files back but I don't have all the Mail files back....just my Inbox and Smart Mailboxes. I don't have the emails I put into all the files in my side bar....they are still empty.
Also, I could not find:   /Users/YourUserName/Library/Caches/com.apple.AddressBook/  on my back up.
        Thank you
    Macbook Pro. 10.6.8.

  • How can I access Address Book data from an older version of the application to transfer it to a newer version of Mac OS running on a second hard drive on the same MDD G4?

I installed a hard drive from one PowerPC Dual 1.25 GHz MDD into another one with an older version of the OS X.  all my Address Book data are on the older hard drive, from which I now boot the computer.  When I launch Address Book as an app on the hard drive with the newer version of the OS, I get an error message that says I cannot run the version of Address Book from the older hard drive on the newer OS.  How can I access the data on the older hard drive version of the Address Book app so that I can transfer it to the newer version of the app on the boot drive?  The "Import" functionality will not work. I will be grateful for any help I can get.  I would also like to uninstall the older version of OS X from the older hard drive.

Boot from the older version of OSX, then in AB use the File>Export>Export vCard after selecting all in AB.
Then boot from the new OSx & use the new AB to import that VCF file.

  • What is the smallest data structure record in a .TXT file record to be recognized as an Apple Address Book "Data Card"?

Hello! This is my first time in this discussion group. The question posed is the subject line itself:
What is the smallest data structure record in a .TXT file record to be recognized as an Apple Address Book "Data Card"?
I'm lazy! As a math instructor with 40+ students per class per semester (pCpS), I would rather not have to create 40 data cards pCpS by hand, only to expunge that info at semester's end. My college's IS department can easily supply me with First name, Last name, and eMail address info, along with a myriad of other fields. I can manipulate those data on my end to create the necessary .TXT file, but I don't know the essential structure of that file.
    Can you help me?
    Thank you in advance.
    Bill

    Hello Bill, & welcome aboard!
No idea what  pCpS is, sorry.
To import a text file into Address Book, it needs to be a comma delimited .csv file, like...

  • Sharing address book data

I have tried to export my address book data so I can import it into a contact management program. But Mimbers cannot open the files, nor can excel. Can address book NOT create a comma delimited or tab delimited file? And if so, why not?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
No, Address Book cannot export to anything but VCF. It's not a new issue.
Have you tried one of the online free or paid VCF to CSV converters?
Using your favorite search engine with the term 'VCF to CSV converter' brings up lots of links:
    http://soft.udm4.com/downloading/csv_to_vcf_converter_freeware/
Apple isn't going to address it, because others already solved the problem.
