Import Lightroom 4.1 - CR2 scrambles my images

When I import images from my Compact Flash (lexar Prof UDMA, 300x speed, 8Gb) I get white scrambled images.
Wheter I import as DNG or just add, it never works anymore. Used to work flawless and I do not believe I changed anything. Thoughts anybody??
these are the images on my card when viewed in LR 4.1 - Build 829322, Camera Raw 7.1 before importing
same images after I either imported them as CR2 or as DNG, both thimes I get the same. When I just add them the thumbnals do show the right image for a short period of time though (see below)
any help would be very welcome....

Your raw data is probably corrupted.  The initial view is the camera-embedded-jpg and the mostly-white image is the raw data being interpreted as an image which takes a few seconds to be computed.
You should try to isolate whether your CF card is bad or if the transfer of the images if corrupting them, by trying a different CF card and seeing if the same thing happens, and/or by varying the way you transfer the images from your camera to your computer.
If you want others to verify that the images are or ok or corrupted, post a public download link for one of them.  Use something like www.dropbox.com or www.yousendit.com if you don’t have another way to allow people to download them.

  • How do I import GPS information for all of my images from Bridge into Lightroom 5.3?

After importing my images into Lightroom 5.3, I discovered that the GPS location data was imported for some images, but not for others.  When I checked the metadata files for the same images in Bridge, the location data was present for all of my recently downloaded images.
Why would Lightroom import the GPS data for some images and not others?
Is there any way to import the location data from the Bridge metadata files into Lightroom?

    Tony,
Thank you for your suggestion.  I had already tried several approaches along those lines without success.  In the end, the GPS data was still present in Bridge metadata file for each image, but not in the Lightroom metadata files for the same images.
So, I went back to Lightroom, and did some further exploring on the internet for solutions.  Just as I was wondering whether or not the problem might be rooted in my download presets (i.e., setting copyright into, etc.), I stumbled across a reference by a Pentax owner that identified the same problem.  Here's the link:
    http://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/115-pentax-k-5/203274-gps-data-not-importing-into-light room-4-2-a.html
In a nutshell, I can download all of the metadata, including the GPS location information, but only if I do NOT use any metadata presets.  If I use a metadata preset when downloading my images, no GPS data can be seen in the Lightroom metadata files, but it does import into Bridge's metadata files.  I've now tried this both ways, several times now, and have verified this result.
I also tried re-downloading images with no presets, and replacing (copying over) the image from my original download.  This did not solve the missing GPS data in the Lightroom metadata.  From this point, all that I could think of doing was removing all of my recent downloads from Lightroom, and starting over.  However, I'd already started editing my images, and I didn't want to lose that time.
So, I re-downloaded all of my recent images from my memory cards as a copy into each file without any metadata presets.  Then, after selecting the copy first, followed by selecting the original (order is important), I toggled 'Sync Metadata' under the Metadata tab in Lightroom.  Voila, the GPS data appeared in the original metadata.  When this is done for all of my images, I will delete the second copies in my files.  Once I am satisfied that everything is okay, and my images are backed up satisfactorily, and only then, will I reformat my memory cards.
This whole experience has surfaced an interesting quirk in Lightroom, or in my Lightroom settings that I don't understand.  It may be something that Adobe might want to look into further, if others are finding a similar problem.

  • Lightroom color cast question of JPEG image

Lightroom color cast question of JPEG image
Camera Canon MKII Color Matrix Adobe RGB
Photoshop CS Color Setting Adobe RGB (1998)
Lightroom 1.2 as new lightroom user I did not think that I needed to choose a color setting or color profile until I am ready to print my photos. I have not done any preset camera calibration.
Link to my website with example photo http://www.basecampphotos.com/color.jpg
My question is why is Lightroom displaying the images with a yellow color cast ? The image is a print screen from Lightroom on the left and Photoshop on the right The color cast problem can be seen in the white walls of the stairway. Also when viewing the image with Windows Picture and Fax viewer the walls are white as expected.
Any ideas or suggestions as to why Lightroom is displaying the images with the yellow color cast or what I need to do to correct the issue ?
    Thanks
    Jim

Almost definitely a corrupt monitor profile. Time and again this turns out to be the cause of such differences between PS and LR. You need to recalibrate the monitor or if you do not have a hardware calibrator, delete the profile from windows' monitor properties pane to test and then get a hardware calibrator.
P.S since you are using adobeRGB jpegs, Windows picture and Fax viewers cannot give you the correct colors even on a calibrated monitor. Those are not color managed programs (I believe picture viewer finally is in Vista but definitely not in XP which you appear to be using). Also, PS has to be correctly set up to always preserve embedded profiles and to ask when you have profile mismatches, otherwise even PS will give incorrect color. Make sure to set this up in Edit>Color settings.
P.S.2: Make sure you are not applying defaults in Lightroom to your images either on import or elsewhere. Sometimes people by accident define develop defaults that in this case might contain a white balance shift. Go to LR preferences and open the Presets tab. Here click on "Reset all default Develop settings" and make sure that only the auto grayscale checkbox is ticked. For images that it might have already happened to, make sure to hit the reset button.

What do you mean "recognize"? Do you mean it will not import? Or it was imported but doesn't produce a thumbnail?
What format is the file? What is the file size?

  • Aperture 2 - imported project in macbook from imac - no images!

Hi - I am very new to Aperture and have hunted high and low in all the forums to find an answer to this question but so far have not found one, so here goes:
I have Aperture installed on both my new imac and year-old macbook (both Leopard and fully updated). I have imported photos from my iphoto library (which Set Up Assistant migrated over from my MB) into Aperture on my imac successfully, choosing to move the masters to my Aperture library there because it has a much bigger hard drive. I have neatly filed them into projects (and into blue albums within those projects) and adjusted them to my satisfaction.
I then exported each project to the Desktop and then, being careful to close Aperture on the imac, brought the project onto the Desktop on my MB via my network. I then opened Aperture on the MB and imported the project from the Desktop. I could see that the project obviously had contents because of its size and it took a few minutes for it to be imported. But the project has no images in it!
I have checked that the images in the imac Aperture are not referenced images so this can't be the problem and I have no problem exporting and importing images themselves - just the whole projects.
I expect there is an obvious answer to this but I have tried in vain for several hours to find it so I hope someone here will be able to help.

Does Aperture 2 have a "Repair Database" when you launch it while holding down alt&command - that solves a lot of problems in version 3.

  • Importing Over Network: Where Do The Files/Images Go?

I am a relative Mac newcomer after years of Windows/PCs... have used Adobe Photoshop and PS Elements to edit and organize images and now I'm trying Aperture (thank heavens for a trial version). I'm gonna have a bunch of questions...
Here's the first one: why do the files I've imported into a project/folder in Aperture vanish the next time I open the program? Could it be because the images are on a different computer on my home network?
I am running Aperture on a MiniMac that is connected to my network (all wired, in this instance). My images are all stored on the internal HDD on a Dell XPS. Twice now, I have connected to the network, and imported a slew of image files into the project folder I'm building in Aperture. Everything imports fine and I can manipulate the images to my hearts content in Aperture (if slowly... don't recommend a Mini for Aperture but that's a different story altogether...)
The next time I have opened Aperture, it looks like it's the first time, like I haven't created any projects or imported any files. Nothing is there.
Have I forgotten to save something? I go to the "file" menu but "save" is not one of the options, I presume that import saving is automatic, ala iPhoto... but... where then is my work from the previous session?
At the risk of asking too many questions in a single post:
I would also like to know if there is a way to get Aperture to display RAW files instead of the companion JPEG files when I combine the pair into stacks. I generally shoot RAW with a JPEG (small, basic quality) for reference sake. I only want to see the RAW files when I'm in Aperture, but sometimes Aperture seems to want to display the JPEGs. Is there a preference or something I can set to determine that?
OK, there's enough questions for now... Thanks,
    --PS

    Driver 69
    That's driver FORTY-9. Hmmm???
Are you sure you are opening the library you imported into?
Are you kidding? I'm not sure of ANYTHING <g>
Aperture will default to the aperture library in the 'Pictures' folder if it can't find the library set under the preferences menu
Hmmm again. The library I set in Preferences is a folder I created on a high-speed external drive that is hard-wired into the MacMini via Firewire 800. I double clicked on the Aperture library in that folder, and it came back to a fresh folder of images I imported last night. Still no sign of the stuff I imported on Monday.
But at least I'm getting a clue where to look for stuff...
As a test, double click on the Aperture Library' in your own home Pictures folder - Import a few pictures - Close Aperture and open it again
I think I have done the first two steps there -- opened Aperture last night, imported a folder (still on the network, though). I'll have to see what I wind up with when I close / re open it... later today.
If your new pictures are there - then you are OK
And if not? I hope they are, I like the way one of them turned out after RAW-tuning it in Aperture. Looks better than the same picture I manipulated in PShop.
Now what you may need to do is see if you can find the library you imported all the other pictures into.
Sounds like I have at least a clue where to start looking.
Always try to keep you pictures locally on the fastest drives you have
Accessing images over a network is not advised
Well, there's a big fore-head slap and "d'oh". Maybe that explains why Aperture seemed to be running so slowly? Because the pictures I'm messing with are on another computer? Slap my forehead again.
Think it'll be faster if I copy them to that 7200rpm external HDD that's firewired to the Mini? I think I'll try that, too.
    Hope this helps
    Brian
Thanks for the suggestions, Brian, very helpful.

My Most important Lightroom CS5.5 Catalog won't open. I guess it didn't shut down properly. I called support and was not allowed to speak with technical support. Hal
I am getting the same error.
I am new to LightRoom but already have some "important" photos edited and catalog in LR.  I do not have a catalog with a .lock extension but rather an "unexpected error" as above.  I tried your suggestion but was unable to open any of the three backup catalog files I have.  (I did rename the existing .lrcat before I copied a new lrcat file to the default directory.
I would appreciate any other suggestions you might have.  I can not even open LR with this error.  How do I create a new catalog?  The button "Create a New Catalog" take me to a folder but does not seem to create necessary file.

No.  Use an external editor for that - e.g. Photoshop, Elements, GIMP...

  • Lightroom does not support duo toned images. Why? Incredible that it does not!

Lightroom does not support duo toned images. Why? Incredible that it does not!

Lightroom does 'split-toning', but I suspect that's not what you're after.
A duo-tone in offset print terms refers to a BW image printed with black and one additional colour. LR however works only in the RGB colour model, so you need to resort to e.g. Photoshop for duo-tone (or CMYK) conversions.

  • Imported CSS - rewriter doesn't rewrite backgroung-image: url(...)

    Hello,
Has anyone run into this problem? Documentation says
url() inside CSS gets rewritten but it doens't work. My imported CSS has something like inside:
    background-image:url('/images/all_sites/fade_brown_bkgrnd.jpg');
and it stays the same when passed through rewriter.
Tried various rules to no avail. Anybody ran into this and found a work-around?
    Help is appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Alex N.

    Alex:
We are having the same problem. Do you get the problem solved? and how?
SUN PTS just told us, there is no such bug fix as mentioned, there is workaround, however. (that is, inline the background-image portion in CSS to HTML BODY). We really don't like such workaround since it involves a lot of code changed in a large web application.
    I appreciate your help. Thanks.

  • Lightroom 3 Corrupting .CR2 RAW files on import

I have never used RAW files before yesterday.  About to shoot a wedding in a couple days so desperately need a fix or at least some advice for a workaround.
    Here's my hardware list:
    Canon 7D
SanDisk Ultra II 2 & 4 GB CF cards
    Windows 7 64x
Internal card reader, not some flimsy USB thing
    Lightroom 3
    Problem:
After importing .CR2 RAW files using Lightroom 3, not Bridge, I found that some (not all) of the images appear to be corrupted.  On the camera they look fine.
For a short moment, in Lightroom, they look fine, but then after clicking the thumbnail they instantly develop strange corruptions, like pink/yellow/opaque static.
This is not one of my photos, but the corrupted image looks just like this: http://thekuipers.org/images/IMG_2279.jpg
Used some advice and downloaded Fast Picture Viewer, which allows me to view the .CR2s in the folder I imported to, and MOST of them look fine now.  Reimported to LR and now only like 8 of 200 images are corrupted.  They still export to .jpg as corrupted.
I had formatted my CF cards immediately after importing, only to find the corruptions after.  Using Stellar Phoenix Photo Recovery to try to reimport manually the residual data from CF cards.  Will know if that works soon.

From previous posts on this forum there are several things that can cause this type of corruption on import; faulty, CF cards, card reader, cable, and RAM.
On my system it turned out to be faulty ram. Since changing my ram I have not experienced any further problems.

  • Lightroom problem with CR2 images

I have LR loaded on my MacBook Pro and everything was alright in terms of LR operation. I use a 5D MKII camera and always shoot in RAW (CR2). I always download images from the Card to the HDD and then import it to LR. However, CR2 Raw files are not getting imported and I am getting the following error message - "The files appear to be unsupported or damaged".
I can still import other files like .tiff and .jpg files.
    Can someone please advice?

There is no camera-raw plugin in Lightroom, and it is unlikely that the LR install is bad if it imports other files, ok.
The CR2 files, themselves, are likely corrupted.  Can you upload one to www.dropbox.com (creating an account if necessary) and post the public download link, here?
Alternatively, you could try downloading some sample files off the internet and if those import, but your camera’s files do not, then your files are corrupted.
Here is a link to a sample RAW:
    http://movies.dpreview.com.s3.amazonaws.com/canon_eos5dmkii/IMG_0036.CR2.zip
that came from this page after setting the camera to Canon 5D Mark II and the type to raw:
