Import loses (some) track info on eject

When I import from a CD and use get track info, iTunes does the right thing. However, upon ejecting the CD, I often lose some, although usually not all, of the track info. Usually it just loses the first track info (maybe it's the one I played?) Sometimes it loses all the track info (but I haven't played all of them!) I can restore the info by re-doing the get track info from the library listing, but this is really weird and almost certainly a bug. (I'm on 1.1.1.11 -- weirdly :-)

ps. This is definately a bug. I just tested it several times under various conditions and it at least consistently loses the first track info (defaulting it back to "Track 1"), and sometimes more than just that one.

  • Some Track Info Gone Missing in AAC

Recently I trasferred 4000 songs from one computer to another. All but 100 transferred without problem, but 100 tracks came over missing album and date info. I re-transferred these 100 with the same result. All are AAC. Any idea?
Lost count   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

That worked, by golly. I followed your advice and changed the "missing" fields and then reverted to the original info and the missing fields transferred correctly. Unfortunately, this fix requires one to go to every missing field in every track, change it, save it, revert, and save it again. I tried changing/adding other info, but this does not work. Strangely, when the original (seemingly fine) track is copied out of iTunes, then deleted in iTunes, then transferred back (on the same computer), the info goes missing! The tag must be corrupt, I suppose.

  • Can't edit track info on some tracks...

I've had this issue since iTunes 7.5, now I'm using 7.6.
Lately I've been having problems when trying to edit track info in iTunes. Some tracks info field is greyed out and I therefore I can't make any changes to these tracks. Often it's tracks from an album where the other tracks are fully editable. When I choose show info in Finder on these specific tracks, only "System" has read and write access to the file. If I try to add myself (admin) Finder crashes and restarts. I've tried to change ID3 tags in iTunes but I'm told that the file is protected. I've also tried to change ID3 tags in MP3 Rage but to no help, it doesn't change anything in iTunes.
I'm not really sure if this is a problem due to my OS 10.5 rather than iTunes, since I'm having the same issues with other kind of files e.g. pictures imported from my digi cam. When trying to rotate a picture in picture wiever and saving it, I'm told that I don't have the necessary permissions. And then again if I try to give myself read and write access Finder crashes.
I've tried to repair disk permissions but are told that no repairs are necessary.
All n all my Mac has been behaving strangely since upgrading to 10.5 (and now 10.5.1). Besides the issues described above, I'm experiencing "strange" things, such as volumes not being mounted, program and document icons changing, when trying to move a file (within folders on my internal drive) it's being copied instead of moved, and so on...
I'mreally desperate for a little help, as I haven't got a clue about what's going on.
    TIA for any input.

Ok just randomly solved this problem.I checked the iPhone and found the manually manage the music was unchecked. Checking this fixes things, but everytime I plug my iPhone into the computer it unchecks it again. Yet another reason NOT to upgrade to iTunes 11.

  • ITunes burned CD track info does not show in another mac.

iTunes burns a CD of imported LPs.  Track info was entered with Audacity, saved as aiff and then imported into iTunes .  The track info shows up in my car CD player but not another mac.  Any suggestions?

Update: after trying 6 discs that failed, the next few worked fine. Both iTunes and Finder displayed the actual disk name and track names. However, going back to the previously failed disks did not change the outcome. They still failed. That worked for another 6 or so disks, then this morning I ran across another one that got looked up in iTunes, but not in Finder.

  • Why won't some track information sync to my iPod?

Recently, my mom upgraded from her extremely old Sansa e250 to a 32GB iPod Touch. I'm helping her migrate her music over to her iPod. I copied her old Sansa's music onto my computer, which are all mp3 and mp4 files. I put these files into iTunes (on her laptop), and synced them over to her iPod. I then realized some files did not have album artwork, an album in the track info, and some other incorrect or missing details. So, I went into each track, corrected as necessary. Then, I ran a Get Album Artwork for all tracks, which it found for most of them. I went online to find the album artwork iTunes didn't have (some of the mp3s were ripped from old CD's, like George Clinton's Computer Games) and pasted it into track info. After the entire collection was ready to go, I synced again. I opened the Music app on the iPod, and I noticed that while the Apple artwork synced over, some track info that I edited, and the artwork I pasted in, did not. The music still plays fine, but it's kind of annoying when there's something missing or you see that music note. For example, one track was Supertramp's "Babaji". I entered in the album Crime of the Century for it. iTunes found the artwork for it, synced it over, but the album name did not. Any advice?

First a really big THANKS - I was not aware that this iPod Photo cache folder existed and it had grow to over 15 gb in size! (Now it is 3.85 gb in size).
BUT BUT-- problem not solved... Although I trashed that file and then re-synced my iPod Touch, it is still only going back to July 2009 with the events - not 12 months as I request; and none of the events that I checked prior to the previous 12 months are not on my iPod Touch, first generation running system 3.1.3 (7E18). I STILL HAVE 3.0 gb of available space on my iPod. Again, I never had this problem when 2.x was the OS for my iPod Touch.
The number of events seems to be exactly 51 - is that perhaps a limit? I don't think it would be but when I look inside the iPod Photo cache folder, there are 51 folders (plus 2 other items) and the folders are numbered from F00 to F50.
I would like to get to the bottom of this - not sure if I should start a new post or ??? Thanks again and any ideas or tests to run really appreciated!

  • Importing cds- getting wrong track info

Sometimes when I import a cd itunes automatically chooses track info for some other cd. I have to go though and manually change the track names. Any way to choose the cd, rather than have itunes choose it for me?
    thanks

iTunes tries to identify the CD by matching it to items in Gracenote's database. If there are multiple matches, it gives you the list and you can choose the right one. If there is only one choice and it's wrong, then you will need to type in the correct info.

  • When importing numerical in order tracks some tracks are out of sequence

When I import into iTunes my accompaniment CDs which have multiple tracks in numerical order, some tracks are out of sequence in the "Date Added" sort order.  This has been happening for quite sometimes with different versions and even on different computers.  This has got to be an iTune software glitch. I can click on sort Album and its ok.

    >> If syncing from iPhoto or Aperture on a Mac then they should sync across in the same order as in those programs.<<
But they don't sync in the same order - All the photos in the album on iPhoto are automatically sorted in date/time order, ascending.
When I sync the album to the iPad, POOF!, suddenly they're all mixed up in no apparent order.
It does not make any sense to me at all.

  • Not connected to internet where my library is. When I import cds is there a way to manually type in track info?

My Ipod library is on a computer not connected to internet. Is there a way to manually put track info from cds once they are imported?

Right click - "Get Info", change the ID3 tag.  You can copy and paste album art too.

  • When playing songs in iTunes playlist, How do you keep the next song from jumping to next song? I am working on song list updating other tracks info and then the next song starts and I lose my spot in song list?

When playing songs in iTunes playlist, How do you keep the next song from jumping to next song? I am working on song list updating other tracks info and then the next song starts and I lose my spot in song list?

    Max OSX 10.6.8, iTunes 11.1
I had a similar problem: I wanted to synch my playlist to my iphone. I like to have my playlist sorted by genre. But under each genre, albums are not sorted by the track numbers. This is a problem, especially when I am listening to club mixes when the DJ smoothly transitions from 1 track sequentially to the next one. Under the properties of each audio file, the Track Numbers and Disc Numbers are already there.
My perfect solution was to turn On Sorting - Sort Album under View>Show View Options. Then, select all the songs in that album (Shift click, Cmd click, etc) , and Edit multiple item information (Cmd I). You will see Info-Video-Sorting-Options buttons. Click on Sorting. Then, under Sort Album, Enter the name of the album. Then OK.
You should now have the playlist sorted by Genre, then each album individually sorted by track numbers. On your playlist you should see, if you scroll right, the column added called "Sort Album".
    Hope this helps.

  • HELP ! Audio won't load.  itunes grabs (imports) cd track info only

re: an ipod mini on a winXP system. Used this mini just fine on a win2000 box. That box died, am now on an XP system. its an older computer (pentium I, 256 RAM)but is up to date with service pack 2 and all the critical updates. Installed itunes 7.
Now the mini won't work with itunes. Put cd in and itunes loads up the track info but wont take the audio part. ipod syncs up the playlist info as displayed in itunes with no audio. CD's add to the library as track info only without the audio. Had itunes v.4 on there before v7 and had the SAME PROBLEM so dont think its a version issue.

  • Why do some tracks, when imported from Audacity, when selected, immediately flip to a different track?

Up until early 2012, I digitized thousands of LP tracks using Audacity, exporting them as MP3 files and then adding them to my iTunes library as AAC format.  This all worked great.
Now, after a year using a new MacBook Pro, I have started digitizing my remaining dozen LP's after downloading and installing the latest version of Audacity (2.0.3).  I noticed that several - not all - of the newly digitized tracks, when selected in iTunes, would immediately jump to a different track.  Sometimes the jump would be to a much older track, and sometimes to a track that was purchased from the iTunes store.  Sometimes the jump would be to the next track in sequence.  A Genius Bar staff suggested that I change from MP3 to AIFF, and that seemed to help after I re-digitized the problem tracks.  Today, however, I noticed that 3 of the 11 tracks from an album I converted yesterday were jumping to other tracks.  I had the AIFF preference set to 32-bit.  Would changing it to 16-bit help?  Why would only some tracks be affected?
    Argh!

You are welcome.  That issue between iTunes and Audacity comes up here every once in a while:

If you are making archival copies of those LPs, keep the 32 bit copies somewhere and make 16-bit versions to use in iTunes.  Otherwise, just do everything in 16.

  • How to sync the album and track info that I entered into a CD using iTunes with the actual disc?

    Hello,
I recently recorded some cover songs, and I imported them into iTunes. So, after entering the track info (track names and album art) into each track using "Get Info", I burned them to a CD. I was completely shocked that the track info and album artwork did not get inputted onto the CD. So, I entered the track info, but could not add the album artwork.
How to add the album artwork is not as important a question. But it's one of my 2.75 questions.
My other issue is that the info that I put on the CD using iTunes is only visible within iTunes. Therefore, I cannot get the track names elsewhere.
    My 2.5 questions are:
    1) How do I get the track and album info to display in Windows Explorer and Windows Media Player (and the touchscreen CD Player in the car)?
    2) How do I add digital album artwork to the CD (so that it shows on the touchscreen CD Player in the car - if iPods have the artwork and it shows on the car's screen, a CD should be able to show the artwork on the car's screen, when talking about limitations of the car)
2.5) How do I make that artwork display across everywhere I plug that disc into?
2.75) How do I ensure that when others import my CD, my artwork, track names, and album name also import from the CD?
I have already burnt the CD, so I would prefer a way to tweak the properties of the already burnt CD rather than burning a whole new disc.
    Thank you!
    -Royce

    1) Metadata visibility in Windows Explorer and/or Windows Media Player depends on OS version and file type. The mp3 format has the widest support. As for the touchscreen CD Player in your car who can say? If it can play data discs the results will be better than with audio CD. If it can display CD text then this option should be selected when creating an audio CD.
    2) Artwork cannot be attached to the tracks on an audio CD. If your car system supports it all then it will be with data discs. Check the specifications of the system for the media types it can support on a data disc.
2.5) Simply ensure the artwork is embedded in the tag.
I have two scripts that can help with this, CreateFolderArt and EmbedFolderArt.
The scripts have a slightly different purpose.
CreateFolderArt ensures that every album folder ends up with a Folder.jpg image which is the art that iTunes already knows about. Side effects are that if artwork has been updated in iTunes the folder art should be updated also, and if any track from the album doesn't have embedded artwork it gets embedded.
EmbedFolderArt was actually written for someone who already had various artwork images stored in the folders and wanted them added to their tracks, but not if iTunes had already downloaded a better quality image.
2.75) Again, use a data disc format. Note that you should not be giving away copies of copyrighted material.
Audio CDs are finalized, you cannot change any properties of them unless they are on rewritable media in which case you can erase the whole disc and start over.

  • Track Info Retrieval options...??

    Hi, all.
So, when I insert a CD into my iTunes, it retrieves the tracks info.
However, sometimes, it gives me two options. I selected one, but the organization of that one was a mess (Classical Music suffers a GREAT deal when retrieving this kind of info) lots of info missed, wrong, etc.
How can I get to "re-choose" the second option???
Every time I eject and re insert the CD, it loads the info that I selected before. So, is there a way to "clear the cache" or something like that, so I can upload the CD with the proper option ??
Thank you all very much for your help...!

    Maybe try two things..
First. Get rit of all, info on the album. Write the album name in the search box, ao only the album you want to change is showing. Then select all, and delete the Artist, Album Artist etc. Then try and mark them all again and go to the Advance manu, and press the button "get CD-track names" (i think thats what written on the button!)
    If this doesn't work...
Delete the album, and import it again with the right names...
Thats my suggestions, hope it works, have a good day.

You can get track info on files that have already been imported into itunes. You don’t have to always do it from a CD. If the files were imported with itunes to begin with. Then all you have to do is select all of the tracks for that CD. And go to the "Advanced" menu and select "Get CD Track Names". It will ask if you want to get CDDB information for multiple items. Select "OK" and off you go. Itunes is going to treat the tracks like they are a CD.
I hope this helps. I was thrilled when originally I found this out.

  • Help with editing 'Track Info'.

I have all my iTunes purchases stored on a NAS.
I downloaded 4 seasons of a TV show but the track information was not consistant across all seasons.
The Episode ID was formatted differently on different seasons.
Some episodes had no 'description' at all.
The fifth (and final season) was not even available in the iTunes Australia store.
So this is what I did:
    1) Purchased the fifth season from a local store on DVD
    2) Ripped that DVD to my PC
    3) Imported the last season into iTunes (and stored it in the N=same folder on the NAS as the original 4)
    4) Edited alll the track info to make them consistant.
       i) Added a brief summary to the episodes without a 'description
ii) Changed all Episode ID to a standard S01E01, S0E02 ... S05E08 format
iii) Edited the media type from 'Home Movie' to 'TV Series' on the 5th season that was ripped from CD.
All worked perfectly and when viewed in iTunes on the PC I edited the information on, everything is fine.
However, I then tried to view the episodes on my Apple TV, none of the changes that I had made show up on the device.
Track information is exactly as it was (very badly) originally encoded by Apple.
i.e. description is still empty on some tracks.
episode ID all over the place
the imported episodes show up in 'Movies' on the Apple TV
I then opened the same NAS iTunes library on my second  PC and it all appears as it does on the Apple TV - i.e. WRONG and MISSING.
I can only conclude that the 'info' I have 'edited' is not actually stored on the actual files, but rather somewhere on the PC itself and it acts as a 'bridge' and when I open the files from the NAS, somehow iTunes grabs the file from the NAS and 'overlays' the edited info stored locally when showing the episodes in iTunes.
In other words, I have wasted my time as 95% of the time I watch on the Apple TV
What have I missed and how do I edit the info so that it is captured by both PCs and my Apple TV?

Looking at a sample file what have you got on the Proprties > Security tab?
You should probably have Everyone or System with full access as well as your own login.
