Import Lx5 movies from movie archive to Imovie

Hi,
I have problems importing videos from iMovie camera arcive into iMovie 11 (v9.0.4).
1. I have a LX5 - Lumix camera and shout movies in AVCHD lite format.
2. First I insert the SD-HC card into my MacBook Pro and open iMovie. To speed up import i choose in iMovie "archive all". I store them on the internal HD in a folder called "iMovies kameraarkiv" which is located at the same level in folder structure as "iMovie - projects" and "iMovie - events".
3. Later inside iMovie I choose Archive->Import->import from "camera archive" and select one of the archived folders e.g. "Apple Internal Memory Card Reader - 2012-02-24" I get the error message "The folder is not a Camera Archive"
I can go into the the subfolder "stream" I can see and also play the .mts files using VLC.
If I allready at step 2. imports the videos to iMovie the import works fine, but many times I can not wait for several hours before I can use my camera again and need to transfer files to the hard disc.
Thanks in advance for suggestions.
/Björn

I think it should work as you are doing it. You do File/Import/From Archive and point to the Folder.
But it isn't, so what do I know?
Here is a way to simulate "putting it back on your camera". This may work, but it may have the same problem that your archive file has.
First, open DISK UTILITY. It should be in your Applications/Utilities folder.
In Disk Utility, create a Disk Image by clicking New Image inthe top toolbar.
Give it a name in the SAVE AS box.
Give it a name in the NAME box.
For SIZE choose CUSTOM
For custom size, pick a size that is slightly larger than your archive folder and its contents. ( you can find this by right-clicking on the archive folder and choosing "Get Info".)
For Format, choose Mac OS Extended (journaled) - although FAT32 would probably work, too, since that is what is on your camera.
For Encryption, choose NONE
For Partition: choose Single Partition: Apple Partition Map. (GUID would work, too)
For Image Format: Choose Read/Write/Disk Image.
Now click CREATE.
Mount this new disk image, so it looks like an external disk mounted on your system in the Finder.
Open the Disk Image in the Finder.
Drag the contents of the Archive Folder (but not the folder itself) into the Disk Image.
Open iMovie. It should recognize the Disk Image as a camera and you can import from there.

  • Made movie from go pro on imovies. How do burn to DVD

Made movie from go pro on imovies but having trouble burning to DVD. Very new to this. An anyone help

AVI is just a 'wrapper' that can contain content encoded with many different CODECS (encoders); most of which aren't Mac compatable.
VOB files are MPEG streaming content.
Most AVI and all VOB files will require some sort of conversion to be useable in iDVD.
If you have a lot of such files, I suggest you look at purchasing Roxio's Toast; it is far more flexable than iDVD in the files it will accept and should work with your AVI and VOB files.

  • Why I cannot import movies from my camera to iMovie?

I have an iMac with Mac OS X 10.7.5 and I'm trying to download some movies from my Canon PowerShot SX210IS. To download movies I am using iMovie 09 Version 8.06.
When I click on the "Open Camera Import Window" it only shows one alternative as shown below.
It shows "Built-in iSight" and there is no other alternative to select my camera ...
How can I make iMovie to show my camera in the down arrow so I can select it and download my movies?
Your advise and recommendation will be appreciated very much.

    Hello AppleMan1958:
Thanks a lot for your answer, but this is exactly what I am doing and what it does is showing my own picture from the camcorder in my computer. I don't have any alternatives to directly import my movies from my camera.
I have received answer from Klondike Kid and gave me the possible cause of my problems. iMovie does not recognize digital still cameras as "movie" cameras. I will have to use an external USB card reader in order to import directly from iMovie.
Again, thanks a lot for your answer.

  • How do you convert a movie from .mov to .jpeg or a format compatible with non iOS computers?

I created a movie on iMovie that I would like to share with family members through a flash drive.  The problem is is that they don't have iOS computers.  How do I convert my movie in iMovie from .mov to a file compatible with other computers?  Thank you

Yes, normally the whole point of making it an XFA is so you can type in it. You must use Adobe Reader or Adobe Acrobat to fill it.
    What happens when you try?

Yes, you can watch movies on your HD TV using the Digital AV Adapter and, of course, an HDMI cable.

  • Imported Photo's from media pane within iMovie no longer centered?

Hi, I am using iMovie 6.0.3 to build a slideshow within iMovie. I am using the media pane within iMovie to access and import my photos from iPhoto. The photos are of various sizes, they have been cropped in iPhoto and work well as a slideshow in iPhoto. When i import them into iMovie the photos are no longer centered.... they are oriented to the left and up with asymetrical letterboxing and cut off heads. I need to bring in over 400 photo's and dont want to have to go and recenter/crop each photo from within iMove..... shouldn't they remain centered when i bring them in?
    Thanks
    Chuck

    Welcome to the forum, Chuck.
It sounds like the Ken Burns Effect may need to be re-centered. By default, Ken Burns centers the image. But if Ken Burns has been set to crop a photo off-center, that's how future photos will arrive.
To re-center the start/end positions, turn ON the Ken Burns checkbox. Stop the preview. Click on the Start side of the Start/End thingy. Drag the Zoom slider—the top slider—a bit to the right, then all the way to the left. Repeat for the End side of the thingy. Now Import the image. New imports should now arrive centered, as you wish.

  • Importing a VLC movies from .avi files into iMovie

I have a camera that records in .avi and I watch them on my Mac with VLC.
Is there a way to import these video clips into iMovie. I do not seem to be doing it correctly.
    Thanks for any help.

    Hi megrove,
You may need to convert the .avi clips to another format. The free program MPEG Streamclip can convert most formats. It's downloadable from this site: http://www.squared5.com/
It's best to convert to AIC (Apple Intermediate Codec). This is the format that iMovie automatically converts compressed files to when importing from cameras or camera archives, for example, AVCHD .mts files. The conversion process expands the compressed files into full frames suitable for editing by iMovie. MPEG Streamclip will do this conversion for you, allowing the exported AIC file to be easily imported to iMovie without further conversion.
MPEG Streamclip can also convert files to the H.264 format, which also works nicely with iMovie '09.

  • How do I import movies from my PC to Imove

How do I get my pc video to iMovie for editing?

If you are on iTunes 11 on your computer then you can re-enable the left-hand sidebar via View > Show Sidebar (control-S), which should make it look similar to how it used to look - if you then select the iPad on that sidebar do you then get a Photos tab on the right-hand side ?

  • Editing movies from my phone on imovie 09...

    Hi all,
I have been filming a lot of random stuff on my Blackberry lately, and would like to edit some on imovie to upload onto youtube. Now, in the past I know that I have filmed something with my bb and then managed to get it onto imovie but I have no recollection of how I did that. Basically, I bluetooth the movies over to my Mac and then open them with quicktime. I have tried exporting the movies into .dv files but that doesn't seem to work either. I'm sure in the past that I have just dragged them into a new event in imovie and then just taken it from there...
    Help, please???

  • How do you move movies from iPhoto library into iMovie

Previously, short movie clips that were downloaded from my digital camera into iPhoto automatically appeared in iMovie.  Now, however, these movie clips still remain in my iPhoto library but do not show up in the Event Library under the iPhoto Videos folder.  How do I get them back into iMovie?  These are movies going back to 2004.  Before they "disappeared" I had edited 250 clips and shared them in iTunes.  They remain in my Project Library in iMovie but I'd like to finish editing them and sharing them in iTunes. I am working with iMovie '09, 8.0.6 (821) and iPhoto version 9.6 (910.29).

    Greetings Joy,
If you are having an issue with some video showing up in iPhoto but not being available in iMovie, use the steps in this article to bring it over -
iMovie may not recognize some videos in iPhoto or Aperture - Apple Support
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

  • Is it best to upload HD movies from a camcorder to iMovie or iPhoto.  iMovie gives the option for very large file sizes - presumably it is best to use this file size because the HD movie is then at its best quality?

Is it best to upload hd movie to iPhoto or iMovie?  iMovie seems to store the movie in much larger files - presumably this is preferable as a larger file is better quality?

Generally it is if you're comparing identical compressors & resolutions but there's something else happening here.  If you're worried about quality degrading; check the original file details on the camera (or card) either with Get Info or by opening in QuickTime and showing info. You should find the iPhoto version (reveal in a Finder) is a straight copy.  You can't really increase image quality of a movie (barring a few tricks) by increasing file size but Apple editing products create a more "scrub-able" intermediate file which is quite large.
    Good luck and happy editing.

  • How to put movie from disc back into imovie?

Hi, I have just put a disc that I created using iMovie and iDVD back into my G4 using Disc Utility. Seems easy to burn an exact copy, but I would like to get the movie on the disc back into iMovie so I can edit it further and make it part of a new iDVD project. Is this possible?
    Thanks
    Chris

    Hi, Christine,
Yes, you can do it. See this for some help/suggestions as to what to use and how to do it: http://discussions.info.apple.com/webx?128@@.68b7d7a6
You will lose some quality but it may not be so much to bother you.
You should always save your finished movies back to the camcorder DV tape. That way, you can always reimport that footage into any new iMovie project.
Either way, you will not be able to do the tight editing as you could on the original iMovie, but you can certainly add it to other movies, insert new movies, and delete some portions of your first movie. Remember that the audio you added as separate tracks will now be incorporated into the video and will not appear as separate tracks under the video.
    Hope this is helpful!

I made a .dmg file from a DVD and was able to import the video to iMovie, but there is no sound. When I click on the .dmg on my desktop it shows two folders, one labeled VIDEO_TS and the other AUDIO_TS. Any suggestions?
