Import mail accounts

How can I transfer my mail accounts from one mac to another. I do not wish to transfer the old mail, only the accounts.

The problem is not transferring the e-mails.
You can copy the mail folder from the user account over, but it will also transfer e-mails.
Do a backup.
Quit the application.
Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J.  When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder.  Select Library/Mail and copy the folder.

  • Import Mail accounts without Migration Assistant?

Migration Assistant won't let me migrate because the source account is much larger than the space on the target Mac's HDD.
Two Leopard Macs, connected via Firewire.
So I copied over the Mail folder in ~/Library. Then I imported the mailboxes (Mail.app -> File -> Import Mailboxes).
But that just puts a mishmash of Sent/Deleted/etc. folders in Mail's sidebar, it doesn't actually create the accounts. I have 5 mail accounts containing 6GB worth of mail, if that matters.
    Any thoughts?

In addition to the /Home/Library/Mail/ folder you also must copy the /Home/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist preference file.
Now, because you've done all this mailbox importing (not necessary) you should delete the /Home/Library/Mail/ folder on your new computer and re-copy the folder from your old machine along with the above preference file. Then when you open Mail everything should be present.
Of course if your mail accounts are all IMAP and you leave mail on the server, then all you have to do is recreate the accounts in Mail (no need to copy your mail folder if everything is stored on the mail servers.)
If you need to move other data:
Folders You Can Move to Your new Mac
From the Home folder copy the contents of Documents, Movies, Music, Pictures, and Sites.
    In your /Home/Library/ folder:
/Home/Library/Application Support/AddressBook (copy the whole folder)
/Home/Library/Application Support/iCal (copy the whole folder)
Also in /Home/Library/Application Support (copy whatever else you need including folders for any third-party applications)
    /Home/Library/Keychains (copy the whole folder)
    /Home/Library/Mail (copy the whole folder)
    /Home/Library/Preferences/ (copy the whole folder)
/Home /Library/iTunes (copy the whole folder)
/Home /Library/Safari (copy the whole folder)
    If you want cookies:
    /Home/Library/Cookies/Cookies.plist
    /Home/Library/Application Support/WebFoundation/HTTPCookies.plist
    For Entourage users:
Entourage is in /Home/Documents/Microsoft User Data
    Also in /Home/Library/Preferences/Microsoft
    For FireFox:
    /Home/Library/Applications Support/FireFox
    /Home/Library/Preferences/org.mozilla.firefox.plist

  • Importing Mail account from v.3.6 to mail v.4.3, help please

I am attempting to transition one large mailbox (40k+ emails) from an imac running 10.5.8(mail v3.6) to a new imac with 10.6 and mail v.4.3.
Migration assistant was used to move the user documents file overnight, however the new imac had been created with a new User account. The Mail files were then dragged manually into the new users Library. Upon starting mail for the first time it did not recognize the files from v.3.6 as a new mail account. The users previous account info was entered, and resulted in mail attempting to download 45000 emails:( even though the emails were visible in the new imacs Mail application.
Mail that has been sorted into folders by name, is readable and seemingly all there, however mail unsorted in the Inbox contains all blank emails.
Importing the mailbox doesnt seem necessary at this point, need to prevent mail from attempting to download the entire 40k(30gigs worth) of mail when checking for new mail.
    thanks for the help

    Bump! Any related experiences appreciated:)

  • Importing mail ACCOUNTS to Mail?

In order to sync my mail accounts via Mobile Me, I think I'm going to bite the bullet and go ahead and use Apple's Mail in lieu of Entourage. My problem is, I manage more than 30 e-mail accounts for a not-for-profit which, when added to everything else, ends up being about 43 accounts. I really don't feel like manually setting up each account in Mail. I've noticed that I can import messages/inboxes, but I can't find a way to import the accounts. Is such a task possible? I looked for a third-party app and didn't find what I was looking for, either. I'm hoping I just missed something.
    Any ideas?

So I take it that the silence indicates there's nothing out there to do this?  Bummer.

  • Import Mail account to different Leopard user Mail account

I am looking for the proper way to import/copy files and folders from a given Mail account to a different Leopard account.
Basically, create a new user account in Leopard then import from the previous account all Mail setting and data (useful when your account crashes and you need to start fresh on a different account and bring back all your data to this new account).
A technique that both works in Tiger and Leopard.
    Thanks!

quit Mail and copy the entire folder /users/username/library/mail AND the file /users/username/library/preferences/com.apple.mail.plist from the first account to the corresponding places on the second account.
as you won't have access to the second account's home directory directly, copy this stuff to /Users/Shared first.

  • Import mail accounts from snow leopard

I had a Mac OS X 10.6 server with mailserver enabled.
The system drive went down, but I managed to save most of the data after weeks of work.
However, in the meantime, I had to setup a new mailserver on a Mac OS X 10.7 lion server.
So, now the new mailserver has all new mails, but I need to import the old mails into the new accounts.
OD accounts was exported from OS X 10.6 server and imported to OS X 10.7
How can I import the mail data into the new accounts from my recovered data, without deleting the new mails ?
I don't think the migrate process will work, as the new server is up and running and has a lot of new mails already....
( by the way, there is an error in Apple's documentation for migrating script process.... )

Could you please explain the whole process of exporting mail from Snow to Lion. I have been trying for weeks on two diffrent computers and I can not get it to work.
I have moved the library, not sure to delete the envelopes. How do you export the  mbox-files ? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance!

  • Import Mail Account and iTunes backup

I just installed Lion doing a clean install. I'd like to know how can I recover my Mail settings, mail and accounts and the iTunes library (including the iPhone backup) from a Time Machine external backup.
I don't want to restore the whole backup, I just need Mail and iTunes + iPhone. Is it possible?
    Thank you!

I think I solved my problem:
since I used IMAP settings, in Mail I manually added my accounts and the messages appeard right away (they were stored on the server), so I quickly recovered everything.
Concerning iTunes I moved my iTunes Music folder to the new destination and I also copied the backup folder to its original path:
    User>Library>Application Support>Mobile Sync>Backup
everything works fine, just like before!

  • Delete e-mail accounts on E65 and 6280

I am about to sell my phones but I can't delete the e-mail accounts. I have read all possible manuals and guidelines but I can't find any instructions how to remove an old e-mail account.
On my E65 and I can blank out all fields but not delete och reset the entire account. Also the subject line on deleted mails are not possible to remove.
On my 6280 I have a bug so I can't use down arrow when I have th e-mail program running.... That causes me to not be able to blank out the account information. I have tried the factory reset but that does not reset e-mail account.
Can any one help me to remove the accounts or in some way reset the entire phone so all personal information is removed?
I can't sell the phone when it contains settings to a important mail account!

On the E65 - *#7370# performs a reset which will wipe all data and put the phone back to basic configuration.
I am not sure if this will work on the other handset - give it a try.
    Hope his helps.

  • Just delete my mail account on accident

In a rush to delete an unwanted mail account I accidentally deleted the most important mail account. Is it really gone for good with all my mail or is it sitting somewhere I can retrieve it. I looked in the trash but am not quite sure what I would be looking for. Can anyone suggest a solution? Is there one?

just found my answer in some other threads

  • Syncronization: How can i store mail for different accounts remotely, and copy most important mails manually to local folders on two devices?

Hello. I have two devices and two accounts, so what i want is this:
I only want to store mail from both accounts in a remote place and copy most important mails to local folders.
(I will be grateful for any ideas as to where/how this "cloud" can be - specially free places)
    * Can I have a copy of these local folders in both devices and the remote storage?
    * Could i synchronize devices so that: when i move a mail to a local folder in any device, its copied to the same folders in
the other device and the remote storage place?
    * The remote storage place will have many other folders. When I open Thunderbird, I also want to see these and the mail
inside, and also be able to move mail from the inbox to these folders.
    * One of the accounts is gmail. In Account Setting tool, there is an option for synchronization. If there is no easier way, I can have mail for other account copied to gmail, and just syncronize gmail mail. For this, how will I copy my present folder structure to gmail. And how can I syncronize the local folders on the two devices?
    Thanks in advance.

The first awkwardness I see is that there's no obvious format in which to store messages remotely such that you can work with them in an email client. It may be possible to set the "Local Directory" option in the account in Thunderbird to point at some remote folder (DropBox comes to mind) but I have never tried this and I'd be nervous about what happens if connection can't be made, or if you happened to access it from two different places simultaneously. The other concern is that mail stores get big, quickly, and you'd be forever uploading and downloading large (multi gigabyte) files. Thunderbird stores what looks like a folder containing many separate messages as one big file, so there's no simple opportunity for incremental changes to be up/down loaded.
The whole idea of Local Folders in Thunderbird is to detach messages from servers, so they don't track what happens on servers. I say this to point out the distinction between files stored locally and permanently ("Local Folders"), versus cached copies of online files ("synchronized"). It's not safe to regard your synchronized folders as permanent.
So, synchronized folders on an IMAP server are "mirrored" in Thunderbird so you do have a local (albeit temporary and transient) copy of messages; this is done mainly to avoid repeatedly downloading messages if you re-read them, and it makes searching faster an more efficient. But these "synchronized" message track what's being done on the server, and so if they are deleted anywhere, all synchronized devices will at some point also see the deleted messages vanishing. (Unless you made a local copy in the Local Folders account.)
I use a gmail account pretty much as you have described; I copy or move messages to that account so they are visible in my phone, my tablet, my own laptop and my works computer. It's free, and it's "in the cloud"; the only reservation I have is its privacy. There are other providers (e.g. 1&1/gmx) who don't seem to have the data collection fetish that google thrives on.
It's fairly simple to create filters in Thunderbird to automatically copy messages to your "cloud account"; even better is to set up forwarding rules on the other accounts' servers, so your messages are automatically sent on and waiting for you when you next login, already in the cloud account.

  • Import mail from deleted user account

I created a new administrator account on my mac mini and deleted the old one but chose to retain all of the user folders and files.
I would like to go back and import mail messages from a pop mail account in the deleted user library, but can not navigate
to the library when mail asks for the location of the files to import.  Is it possible to find those files?

Never did find a solution to this. However because we are using IMAP accounts most of the mail was cached on the client Macs. So I offlined them, loaded Mail, copied all the mail into local mailboxes, recreated the users, went online and copied the mail back into the new hierarchy.
Still can't believe I did such a daft thing!

  • Can I read mail on an external hard drive without importing the account?

HI - I have a large mail account on an external hard drive which i do not want to import on my mac due to hard drive space limitations.  Can I review the mail within the Mail app, (or some other app) without importing everything into mail or onto my hard drive?  Thanks very much!!

    Hi Paint Guy,
    *Bootcamp on External Hard Drive?*
Can I install Bootcamp on an external Hard Drive? I don't see why it wouldn't work. Do I need to install the Mac OS on the external Hard Drive first, then Bootcamp?
By Microsofts Design no Windows can be installed and booted from external HDs. BootCamp just follows this.
However, according to this http://tubeshards.wordpress.com/2006/12/05/install-windows-to-a-macintosh-usb-dr ive/ it can be done.
    Parallels
Another question. Does Parallels allow you to not have to use the "option" key to boot into Windows? I mean if I use Parallels can I use XP or Vista at the same time as my mac applications?
What, (if any) are the drawbacks to using "Parallels"?
Parallels is an OS X application which don't need a restart of your Mac to run Windows.
Therefor you can run OS X and Parallels Windows side-by-side.
Main drawback is, that Windows runs not native (on the real hardware) but in a virtualized environment.
While this is more than acceptable for 'standard' Office programs, any program that needs direct hardware access (especially games and 3D-programs) either do not run at all or run at noticeable slower speed.
Also you have to realize that the amount of RAM in your Mac is divided between OS X and Parallels Windows.
    *What Options are there...*
Is it possible for Apple to allow users to program a key on their keyboard, when pressed will bring up Windows so they don't have to always restart? I need to switch between Windows and mac OS quite often and it's a real pain to always restart. What options do I have?
BootCamp is no option then, since it needs a reboot everytime you want to switch between OS X and Windows.
Parallels (and VMWare Fusion and VirtualBox, BTW) run alongside OSX.
    Thanks
    You're welcome. Hope it helps.
    Have Fun

  • Importing Mail file and documents from another account on same Mac

    Hi,
I a new to Mac. Have a great new iMac. It's all working fine.
Initially to simplify things I have set up everything under the main admin account (mine).
In particular, I have installed both my and my wife's e-mail account documents in the Mail and Documents folders of the master account.
Now that we're 'stable', I have set-up a separate account for her such that we keep our preferences, e-mails and documents separate.
When setting-up her account I now can't find how to import 'her' folders from the Master account Mail application and Documents folder. Indeed, those folders appear grey and unaccessible from her account (I guess that's the basic idea abut separate account but I am nevertheless looking for ways to move those files.
    Any pointers?
    Tx,
    AH

login to the main account and drag the folders to the "Drop Box" folder in her "Public" folder (in her home folder in "Users" at the top level), the go to her account to move the to the correct locations.

  • Importing Outlook 2010 Mail account settings from one copy of Office 2010, to another copy of Office 2919

I am trying to export my E-mail ACCOUNT settings from one copy of Outlook 2010 so that I can import them in another copy of Office 2010 on a different computer.  Again, BOTH computers have Office 2010 on them.  While I can move the PST file, my
E-mail account information never comes across.  How can I do that without having to enter each account separately.  Also is it normal for the E-mail accounts to show up as DATA FILES rathan than E-MAIL FILES?  I've never come this in the past.
    Thanks.

As JHarris1993 said, this is BOSS! Thank you.
I used this solution to recreate a profile I was using under one Windows 7 account in another account on the same machine. The profile was successfully recreated but I noticed that the email accounts in the profile were still pointing to the data files from
the other account, which is not surprising at all.
Unfortunately no easy way exists for re-pointing email accounts to alternate file locations. I have five different email accounts in this profile (2 IMAP, 2 Outlook Hotmail Connector and one Exchange), and looks like there are solutions and workaround for
each type of account which work with varying degrees of success.
Changing location of pst data file for
    IMAP email account
    Changing
location of ost data file for an Exchange email account
Changing location of ost data file for a Hotmail Connector email account
    Thanks Again,

  • Import a new mail account from mac to iPhone

    Hello folks,
I have a macbook pro and an iPhone 4. The first time I connected my iPhone to the macbook it imported all the mail accounts, with all the settings and so on. Now, I create a new email account on my macbook and I cannot figure out how to import this new mail account on the iPhone. Could you help me please?
    Thanks

Oh no So if I want this account on my iPhone I have to create it directly from iPhone
    Correct.
You create the account in mail on your Mac & on your phone. Since it's an exchange account, they will both be kept in sync. When you select sync mail accounts in iTunes, it's only the account settings that are synced, no actual messages are synced at all. You normally only do this one to transfer the account settings to your phone.
