Import mail and address from outlook express

I had a PC and used outlook express as mail software.
I have copy the outlook express database (files .dbx like address.dbx, inbox.dbx, ...) on my new mac and I want to import all my files and messages.
How could I do this.
Thanks
PS : I'm french, hope you will forgive the grammar ...

Hello Sijmons,
Thank you for your response.
I already tried it. I used File/Import a mailbox ..., then "Mail" offer me to choose the software I used, and I had the choice to run Mcrosoft Entourage, Outlook Express, ... and others.
Then I went to the place where I have stocked the .dbx files.
But mail seems not to be able to read it.
Do you know how to read .dbx librairies with Mail ?
Thanks in advance
Have a good day

  • How to transfer all emails and contacts from Outlook Express to Outlook 2010

I have just done this and believe me it was a bit of a marathon! Microsoft tell you that you need to have both Outlook Express and Outlook 2010 running on the same machine. If, like me, your Outlook 2010 in running on a Windows 7 platform there is a problem.
Until now I have been using Outlook Express on a Desktop running XP Pro. It has Outlook 2007 but it won’t run owing to a corrupted file. I set up my email account on an old XP laptop which has Outlook 2007. This is how I transferred emails between 2 machines
    running Outlook Express:
After setting up the account (on the old laptop) I created sub-folders exactly the same as my existing account. Having got some emails in the inbox I made sure that each new sub-folder contained at least one random email simply by drag and drop. It seems to
validate the folders. I then copied the folders from the maintenance directory on the desktop (you find this under Tools – Options – Maintenance) and pasted them into the equivalent folder on the this old laptop so they overwrote those present. I transferred
the contacts simply using Export – Address Book using a csv file. I then set up the email account in Outlook 2007 on the old laptop and ran an import from Outlook Express which was fine as per Microsoft’s instructions. On that machine I then exported to a
backup pst file which I transferred to my new Windows 7 machine and imported successfully into Outlook 2010. Perhaps there are easier ways but at least it worked!

You can directly do the same, visit https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/196215 to know the steps.

  • Exporting Mail and Addresses from an IMAC, running OS 9.1.x

My wife, a teacher, has an old Imac, using OE 5.0 as her mail client. She wishes to buy a shiny new MacBook, but has asked me how to import all her messages and contacts from the OE client. I am stumped.
I have seen in the mail program where you can import mail from Outlook Express, but will it work with such an antiquated program?
She doesn't have to do anything fancy with these emails, but she wants to just have them for reference. I believe there is an export feature for contacts, but not for mail messages.
Any help would be appreciated and used. For her, not being able to get these things is a dealbreaker.
    Thanks in advance,
    John C.

OS 10.2, Tiger, allows you to import email messages from OS 9. The age of Outlook Express is not an issue here. However, I don't know if OS 10.5, Leopard will, as Leopard doesn't recognize OS 9 applications. In addition, my experience with the Intel Macs is that they also don't recognize OS 9 applications. Your wife may be out of luck unless some Intel Mac, Leopard user advises that the mail transfer can be done.

  • Where is my mail and address from OS 9

I recently upgraded my iMac from OS 9 to OS X. I can not seem to locate my old email messages and address book from Mail operating in OS 9. Any ideas on how I can retrive the mail and address book?

There is no Apple equivalent of the OS X Mail program for OS 9. Both Address Book and Mail can import certain data formats from other sources. You will then need to check the export formats that are available for your OS 9 program(s) and see if any can be used for import by the OS X apps.
What did you use in OS 9 for mail and contacts?

  • I am not able to import my whole inbox from Outlook Express what can I do?

I need to improve my old but trust email and selected Thunderbird, I downloaded it and it set up most of my folders and a few mails into my inbox. Clearly not everything was correct so I read the help, and uninstalled Thunderbird, set outlook express as the default email client programme, downloaded Thunderbird again and this time all the folders were there with the emails within them - but the inbox only held about 5 emails.. (It should have about 1,500) not sure how to get my old email in... is there a cheat such as move all the email in inbox to a temportary email folder and then reinstall Thunderbird, and then simply move the email from the temporary folder back into the inbox?
Seems to be it should move it without having to do this , but strange things can happen!!

Outlook express is notorious for corrupt DBX files. not always such that things do not work in Ouytlook express.
Tools menu (Alt+T) > import and you can retry the import as often as you like. Each try will create an outlook expresss [number] folder under local folders with what it has obtained in them.
Note that import maiol only hey... your setting apparently came first time round.
I would suggest running one of the DBX repair tools on outlook express toi be sure.

  • Import Mail and Contacts, from Windows XP-based Thunderbird Email to New iPad Air

Just got a New iPad Air, and I want to import all of my email & contacts (email addresses) from a Windows XP-based Thunderbird Email program.

Do you have all messages left on the server? Then you can simply set-up your Gmail account as IMAP account.

  • Cannot Import Email and Folders from Outlook for Mac 2011

After downloading Lion, I could not import emails and folder structure from Outlook for Mac 2011.

You're in luck, Imap and Exchange accounts store their data on the server.
Leave Outlook alone, just add the accounts to Mail and let them synchronize, no import required. You can leave them in Outlook or remove them as you please once everything in Mail is done.

  • Mail and addresses from Address Book

When I type an e-mail address in the "To" field of a new message, Mail recovers the full name from Address Book and adds it to the e-mail address. Sometimes I don't want this to happen, instead I want to enter just the plain e-mail address. I know I can edit the address in the "To" field, but I have to enter some character(s) to override the default, otherwise if I just remove the name the system puts back the full name from Address Book. Is there a possibility to get just the e-mail address from Address Book but not the full name of that person? Sometimes I use nicknames, or mnemonic characters instead of real names and I don't want these to be seen by the recipient.

I like the idea of Mail retrieving the email addresses from Address Book, but what I don't like is that it also retrieves "Last" and"First" names, and that it does not allow me to remove them from the "To" field when composing the message. Imagine that I have an entry in my Address Book such as "JOHN (THE FAT) DOE", Or "MARY (THE BLOND) DOE". Obviously, I do not want the recipients to know that I call them "the fat John", or "the blond Mary". Or, that I am sending a message to several people, and for confidentiality reasons I do not want them to know the names of the others. In other words, I want to retrieve email addresses from Address Book but NOT the real name of that person, or at least have the possibility to remove Last and First Names from the "To" field and show only the email address.
    Thanks, and regards.

  • Import contacts and calendar from outlook

I just got iPod Nano and try to put my contacts and schedule from my outlook. I am using Window XP. When I drag all contacts to iPod folder, the file extension was automatically changed to .msg and iPod didn't recognize it. How can I copy all of my contacts and schedule to iPod Nano.
    Thanks

I don’t know why it wouldn’t work. When I change the setting to sync Contacts from Outlook it does it just fine. I can’t test anything right now, I had to send my Nano back to Apple for replacement. Mine was a 2gb in a 4gb body; I guess there are several of us in that situation. Apple quality??? I have sent 5 different iPods back to Apple due to various software, batter, and now memory problems. If they weren’t so great I would be upset.
