Import matrox avi in Premiere Pro CC

I captured most of my video tapes in premiere pro CS4 in matrx avi format with the use of a matrox RT.X2. I upgraded to Windows 8 which is not supported by Matrox. I also upgraded to Premiere Pro CC. Now I am not able to import my old avi files in Premiere Pro CC. Does anybody know a solution?

While I was aware the the current driver for the MXO2 hardware was not compatible with Windows 8, hard to imagine that a CODEC would be incompatible, as one would think those are pretty universal in nature.
Please see Page 11 at this link, "Windows 8 Support" -  parts of it MIGHT resolve your issue -

First, you need to ask in http://forums.adobe.com/community/premiere/content
Second, when you go there, you need to provide more information
AVI is a wrapper, what is inside YOUR wrapper?

  • AVI in Premiere Pro 4.0.1

Can anyone explain why, when I import my avi files into an Encore 4.0.1 timeline, they playback perfectly.
However, when I import them into a Premiere Pro 4.0.1 sequence, they do not playback correctly at all (no display in monitor, audio is heard but is incorrect).
    TIA

Thanks for redoing the G-Spot screen. Don't know why attachments take forever to get out of queue.
Now, the problem with your AVI files is that they are using the Xvid CODEC. This is an open source version of DivX CODEC. Both of these are very heavily compressed CODEC's designed to create streaming media files of a small size for delivery only. They do their jobs well for this one purpose - delivery only.
However, one might be asked to edit this material. First, quality has taken a big hit. It can never be recovered. The only way to edit these is to convert the files to something that an editing application can use and work with. I happen to use DigitalMedia Converter (DMC) to do this, when I get handed almost any footage that is not DV-AVI Type II w/ 48KHz 16-bit PCM/WAV Audio. Write that down, as it will be your target setting for any conversion program that you use. I like DMC, because it works with almost any format/CODEC that I throw at it (you will need to HAVE the CODEC properly installed for it to work with it - you can use G-Spot to get the official name of the necessary CODEC and then Google to find it), and has batch processing. I can load it up with files, check the settings fire it up and go get my coffee. Depending on the speed of one's machine, the Duration of the files and the CODEC that is used, in no time, you'll have those DV-AVI Type II files. Import them into PrPro and edit away. The one downside of DMC is that it is not freeware. It costs ~US$50, but I love it so much that I own a copy for each of my computers. There are freeware converters available. I do not use any, so I cannot comment on any. There are many recs. on this forum and one many more. With some freeware, you get what you pay for. Still, there are some good programs out there, but you have to try them to see. Many seem to do a good job, and then the audio is gone, or the video stutters horribly. If that happens after a few tries, move on to another freeware conversion program. Don't fight it. Just try another.
The first trick of editing is to always convert any non-standard footage to DV-AVI Type II, before you Import it. Obviously, HD material will differ and there are more choices and more concerns. Take those on a case-by-case basis. I'm only talking SD footage here.
Now, remember that I mentioned "highly compressed" earlier on. This means that the quality has been squeezed out already. You can never put it back. You just have to understand that the result will never be as good, as if you have been given the original source files. Only you can determine if the quality hit is acceptable.
Good luck, and do not hesitate to ask more questions. I hope that the quality of your Xvid material will still work for you. I find the results just bad of marginal, but that's me.

Thank you Eddy. I appreciate all the help and feedback I get from the website.
Also, someone suggested I convert the Mpegs to AVI files first. What do you know about AVS Video Remaker download to use to convert it???

  • Importing mov files in premiere pro cs5

I just installed Adobe Creative Suite 5 Master Collection on my machine and now, i have two issues.
    1. I do have the latest quicktime installed but when i try to import *.mov files with audio, only the audio is imported and works fine. the video isn't, but I dont get a dialogue error box.
A). if the *.mov file has only video, i get a file import failure message saying " the file has no audio or video streams".
    2. the next prob is my dymanic linking does not work.
    Help please

Im trying something and I hope you can help me. I have two computers, one dedicated to capturing a event and the other I have is dedicated to playback. They share the hard drive via a network. What I want to know is- is there a way for the dedicated playback machine to access a video file that is still being captured by the capturing machine and play back parts of it in a sequence??

Zone Alarm, eh? I used to use that program, but it got in the way of almost everything that I did, that I canned it completely.
Glad that removing ZA solved your issue.
Personally, I find MOV Animation CODEC to be quite good, and use that for a lot of work. Jeff Bellune, here, like the Photo JPEG format, but I have not explored that.

  • Can't import prores files into Premiere Pro CC or SpeedGrade CC

Can't import prores files into Premiere Pro CC or SpeedGrade CC. But I can into After Effects CC.
I also can't export to DNxHD files to an MXF file either.
I do have latest Quicktime Pro installed and I also have Avid Media Composer and the other pieces of the Avid package.
    Conflict?

I only have one account on the computer and it has Administrator priveleges.  What I am doing to make it work is opening the application using the "Run as Administrator" command (e.g., right click application shortcut on desktop, choose "Run as Administrator").  I am not a Windows guru but I would guess there is something different between opening an Application with a user that has Administrator priveleges and opening an Application choosing "Run as Administrator".  Also, your answer still does not address the fact that I can't use my jog wheel.
    Anyone else have some ideas?

"Sorry, a serious error has occurred that requires Adobe Premiere Pro to shut down"
then the program quits. I'm using Premiere Pro CC, the AVCHD files are recorded on a Sony FS700. Can anyone help please?

  • I couldn´t see imported videos with Adobe Premiere pro

    Hello:
My name is Oren. I´m from Spain, and this is my problem.
One month ago I bought a Toshiba Satellite 850-31M. It has an x64 processor, 16 GB of RAM and I have 2 hard drives, the c: an SSD of 500 GB and other of 1 Tb hardisk, configured as D:. It has a GeForce GT 630M graphics card with 2 GB of RAM. W8 operating system.
I wanted to try the Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 and I downloaded the trial version. No problem, until I tried to import a video in the source window. Appears a small window that says "importing" and give to play in the source window and start .Audio be heard, but not the image. I've tried different video formats and always the same. The same video are seamlessly Quick Time and other video viewers ..... I do not know what to do, I think I've tried everything, even restart the computer to its factory settings and install Adobe Premiere vacuum and the problem remains. I tested with a trial of Premiere CS5.5 and got it. You hear the audio but no video . Insert the video in the timeline and recognizes it as such, even the first frame, but said, is not seeing in the "source", nor in the preview, only the audio.
What could it be? Am I you could lend a hand I'm desperate?
    thank you very much

I cannot import .mov files to Premiere Pro or Adobe Media Encoder.
How do I around this problem?

We need to know a lot more if we're going to help you.
What happens when you try? Do you get an error message? If so, exactly what does it say?
What version of Premiere Pro? Have you installed the recent updates? What operating system?
Does this happen for all .mov files or just some? Has this ever worked before? What version of QuickTime do you have installed?
Here's a page written for After Effects, but the information is relevant to Premiere Pro and AME, too:

  • Import mov files into premiere pro cc windows

    Hi
to import mov files into premiere pro cc 64bit ,windows 8.1 64bit pro do i need Quicktime pro or quicktime alternative  ?
because when i try to import a mov file i got this error
    thanks
i remember cs6 was able to import it
i have never installed quicktime pro

Your question simply cannot be answered definitively for a given clip because it's the codec that matters, not the wrapper/file extension.
As of one of the 7.x releases, Premiere implemented native support for decoding some codecs within a QuickTime file. But that native support does not extend to the entire universe of codecs that can be stuffed into the wrapper.
So you can either report the codec or simply install QT and see if that enables PPro to import the clip.

You can render the title out of Premiere Pro as a movie and bring it into After Effects as a video file. Titles aren't automatically converted when you copy and paste from Premiere Pro to After Effects or use Dynamic Link to send something to After Effects.
