Import movies to iphotos or iMovies?

I am not a professional videographer.  I am just wondering which place is better to import my videos to---Iphoto or IMovie? And why? I understand there is alot more I can do with the movie if I upload to IMovie but, is there any negative to storing them there?

Best to store them in the Movies folder.

Another possibility is to use the media browser in iMovie to access the iPhoto library directly.

  • How do i move movies from iphoto to imovie

How do I move movies from iphoto to imovie. Can I downlod movies from ipod or camera to imovie or does it need to go through iphoto first?

    1. Launch iMovie and import the movies from iPhoto
    2. No. You can launch iMovie, insert your media and import directly to iMovie. If you do this often you might want to change the default action when a camera is connected in the iPhoto preferences

  • Trying to import pics from iphoto to imovie- can't import the PSE modified pictures.  I see them in iphoto.

Trying to import pics from iphoto to imovie- can't import the PSE modified pictures.  I see them in iphoto however they don't appear in the thumbnails in imovie.

Drag the PSE modified pictures from iPhoto to the Desktop. Open them in Preview then save as jpegs (File > Export - then choose Format JPEG). They may already be .jpg files, but are not readable by iMovie. Exporting them from Preview may fix this. Import the saved files to iPhoto - they should now work in iMovie.

  • How do I import all my movies from iPhoto to iMovie at once?

I have years of movies in iPhoto and would like to export them to iPhoto all at once.  Is there a way to search for all movies and export/import them to iMovie?

    Hey there tkeale,
You can access the videos in your iPhoto library the same way you access photos, that way you don't have to go about copying the videos to the desktop from iPhoto and then importing them to iMovie and waste all that hard drive space.
iMovie (2013): Add photos and video clips from iPhoto or Aperture
Add a photo from your iPhoto or Aperture library
In the Libraries list, select your iPhoto or Aperture library.
    Do any of the following:
To browse albums: Choose Albums from the pop-up menu at the top of the browser, and then scroll through the thumbnails of the photos in the selected album.
To browse events: Choose Events from the pop-up menu at the top of the browser, and then scroll through the thumbnails of the photos in the selected event.
Events only appear in your iPhoto library.
To browse faces: Choose Faces from the pop-up menu at the top of the browser, and then scroll through the thumbnails of the photos in the selected event.
To browse projects: Choose Projects from the pop-up menu at the top of the browser, and then scroll through the thumbnails of the photos in the selected project.
Projects only appear in your Aperture library.
To find a photo by its filename or keywords: Use the search field at the top of the browser.
Select the photo you want to use to see a preview in the viewer.
    Do one of the following:
To insert the photo: Drag it to the timeline between clips or between a clip and a transition.
As you drag, a blue box appears in the timeline, indicating where the photo will appear in the timeline.
To replace a clip with the photo: Drag the photo on top of a clip in the timeline.
As you drag, a white border appears around the clip in the timeline. When you release the mouse button, choose Replace from the menu that appears. The photo replaces the clip in the timeline.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,

  • Trying to import movie from iphoto...help!

can i not import a movie recorded with iphoto? i keep trying and it keeps telling me "no matching video".

Double-click the movie in iPhoto; the movie should start Quicktime. From within QT, share/export the movie in any format (choose large for best quality), then import it into iMovie.

  • I can't get my movies from iphoto to imovie

I am very new to mac. I just got my first mac a month ago. I am trying really hard to make a movie. I can get pictures from iphoto onto imovie no problem. But I can't get movies. I can see my movies and play them on iphoto, but when I bring up things to import only photos show up. Somehow by accident I imported 8 videos straight from my camera into imovie and they work just fine..once they get in there. On the tutorial videos it says that imovie will automatically ask if you want to import videos straight from your camera onto imovie. Mine has never done this. I don't know. I have been watching tutorial videos and messing with this thing for 2 weeks and I can't seem to make a movie with any movie clips!! I can make one just fine if I only want to use pictures. I am just so frustrated!! One of the main reasons I got a mac was so I could make better videos for youtube.

It stuck the new clip into documents and so how do I get it into imovie now?
If you don't want the file placed there, next time change the target location before pressing the "Make" button. Appleman has given you one easy method. Another would be to simply drag the file from the "Documents" folder and drop it to any Event name in your Event Library list. Another method would be to create a new folder, name it, put the file in the named folder and place the folder into any convenient "iMovie Events" folder already in use. The next time you open iMovie, the new "Event" folder name will show up in the Event Library list. Be advised however, that movie clips cannot be dropped directly to either a Project window (like music or photos) or an Event window.
I am so frustrated with this thing!! I just bought this new ilife disk thing because it was supposed to make it easier to make movies or something. I haven't found the 'easier' part yet. ugh.
Multiplexed MPEG formats (MPG, MPeG, VOB, MOD, MTS, M2TS, etc.) cannot be edited at the frame level. They must be converted. You can either convert them yourself or try to get iMovie '09 to convert them as part of an "Import from Camera/Archive" process. Some individual have reported the iMovie '09 will convert multiplexed MPEG-1 files, as well as, MPEG-2 files. You can always search the forum and see if you can duplicate their work flow. I usually recommend MPEG Streamclip since it is 100% effective assuming the source file is not corrupted (i.e., improperly terminated and track descriptions are in tact.) It also has the ability to "fix" timecode breaks which can occur when segments are merged. While PC platforms ignore such things, QT does not since it uses temporal synchronization rather than spatial synchronizations.

  • Importing movie from iphoto

I am trying to import a movie clip I made on my iphone from iphoto into iMovie. When I drag the movie file from iphoto to the into the new project window, the program does not allow me to complete this action.
    Any Help?

    Hey CD Hattam,
The following may answer your question:
iMovie '11: Use video from your iPhoto library
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2196
If you’ve imported video from your digital camera into iPhoto, it appears automatically in your iMovie Event Library (as long as the video is in a compatible format).
To use iPhoto video in iMovie:
    - Click iPhoto Videos in the Event Library.
    - The videos appear in the Event browser on the right. You can select and use the video just as you would any other footage.
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

  • Import Movies from iPhoto?

I have a large number of movies in iPhoto spanning hundreds of events. I'd like to import these into iMovie so that they are stored in my iMovie events folders and completely removed from iPhoto.
I don't see this as an option in iMovie. Is this possible to do without a complicated workaround?

There are two ways to do this, provided they are in a format that is editable by iMovie.
    1) Open iPhoto. Open iMovie.
    2) In iPhoto, right-click on the movie and select "Reveal in Finder"
    3) In iMovie, select File/Import/From File and navigate to the folder in iPhoto. If it offers to Move it into iMovie, say yes.
There is a faster way, if you have hundreds of events. Close iMovie.
Go to the Movies/iMovie Events folder on your Macintosh HD drive.
Or create a folder named iMovie Events at the top level of an external drive (the external drive MUST be formatted as Mac OS Extended (journaled).
Then create subfolders under this iMovie Events folder. The subfolders should be named with the names you want to use for the event names.
Drag the video clips into the appropriate sub-folders.
Then open iMovie and let it take the take to generate thumbnails for all these new events.

  • How can I import movies from iTunes to iMovie?

I download video lectures from iTunes University to iTunes 10 and need to export them to iMovie 11 for editing. How can I do this?

I can't figure out how to import from iTunes into iMovie. I can select and view all movies in iTunes, but don't see any options for moving them to iMovie. Any suggestions?
Open iMovie '08, select the "Import Movies..." File menu option, navigate to where the movie is located on your hard drive and import it in the "Copy" mode. Alternatively, navigate to the file in the finder and "drop import" the file directly to a convenient named "event" in the open iMovie '08 application or "event" folder if the iMovie '08 application is not open.

  • Exporting and importing movies in iPhoto - unrecognised format

    hi
I am trying to export just a few movies from iphoto in my user account, to my daughters parental support account on the same mac. (I imported from her camera to my account by mistake and deleted them from her camera, but want them only to be on her account ..... )
It has worked fine for the photos.
I am selecting the movie files. File export, kind original. this exports a .AVI file which i have put in a shared folder.  I can reimport these .AVI files into my iphoto but when i fast user switch to her account , open iphoto, and try to import i get an error message saying that the file could not be imported due to an unrecognized format. I have spent ages trying to get this to work, checking file permissions etc, but i cannot get the movies across.
An additional frustration is that if i create a new folder in the shared area, or rexport the files again from my iphoto ( i was trying exporting in all the different kinds to see if that works), then the new files i exported do not show up in either my daughters finder or iphoto files. Why is this? Are they hidden? and if so why do these ones not show but the first ones i exported do show?
THanks for any help. I am rapidly going off the mac .... it is making me feel so dumb.

I can reimport these .AVI files into my iphoto but when i fast user switch to her account , open iphoto, and try to import i get an error message saying that the file could not be imported due to an unrecognized format. I have spent ages trying to get this to work, checking file permissions etc, but i cannot get the movies across.
AVI is not a native mac video format, and it will depend on the codec used in the AVI, if Quicktime can play it. Do you have additional codecs installed in your account, that are not installed for all users and missing in your daughter's account? For example Perian, or Flip4Mac? Then install these too for your daughters account.

  • Is there a way to batch import movies from iPhoto?

I am wondering if there is a way to batch import movies that I have in iPhoto to iTunes?

As Chenks says... just create a genre for them.... just RT-Click on the home movies (can actually multi-select all of then and do them all at once) and change the genre to "home" or whatever you'd like and then when you go to AppleTV go to Genres > "Home" and they will all appear together there.

  • Can't import movies from photobooth into imovie

In iMovie 11 (v9.0.4), our network users are unable to import movies from the isight camera. (File, Import from Camera).  As soon as you click on "capture", then use the default event name, you get an error:
"You may not have permissions to write to /Network/Servers/rbserver.lan/SERVER_USERDATA/iMovie Events.localized."
I've tried creating this directory on the local machine, per this suggestion:  http://lists.apple.com/archives/macos-x-server/2010/Apr/msg00305.html but to no avail...
Do you know how to fix this problem?

I can't help you with your server question, but here is how I move and import video clips from Photo Booth into iMovie over my LAN:
    (1) Use the Photo Booth > File > Export menu command
to create the actual clip I will move.
    (2) Quit Photo Booth.
    (3) File transfer the exported Photo Booth clip to the Mac that will do the iMovie work.
    (4) Use the iMovie > File > Import > Movies... menu command
to import the clip into iMovie.
    (5) Clean up (throw away) unneeded clips on both Macs.
