Import MPEG1 Muxed Problem - No audio

I am attempting to import some video clips that have been save to disk in the "MPEG1 - Muxed" format (according to Get Info).
The clips play perfectly in Quicktime - video and audio.
When I import them into iMovie, however - NO SOUND. Video is fine.
Are there any tricks I need to know for importing these clips? Not that it matters, but they are long (about an hour each - 6 of them) and about 1.2 gig each.
Thanks in advance.

OK - I have downloaded Streamclip. There are many choices for conversion. I am not going to do anything fancy in iMovie - I just need to edit the clips. For example, I do NOT need to alter the audio in any way - I just want the audio to stay synched with the video as I cut various snippets.
So of the many choices in Streamclip - which would be best?

  • Importing MPEG1 Muxed format into iMovie HD or Quick time (PRO?)

My SONY T 30 Point and Shoot records Video and audio ok, but I can't get the audio to import into iMovie HD.
Will the PRO version of Quick Time help? Any suggestions on other workarounds?
The audio plays through the camera (tinny but audible) and works ok plugged into a TV. But no audio shows upo in iMovie HD or QuickTime.

    Welcome to the forums.
Take a look at MPEG Streamclip and see if it can convert your MPEG1 into DV Stream (which iMovie likes). It's free and I've found it to be very useful (but haven't used it for your challenge).

  • MPEG1 Muxed - MISSING AUDIO FILES

I have a few QT clips that are MPEG1 Muxed. When I import into FCP all I get is the video file and not the audio file. Is there a way obtaining the audio files from a Muxed clip?

Rather than demuxing with MPEG Streamclip , this demuxing advice which is tirelessly offered to many who then have no idea what to do with separate video and audio stream files, use MPEG Streamclip to export the MPEG-1 to DV and let it do the work for you in one pass. It can export to all QT formats and DV and you get the video and audio in a ready to use file. Better no?
Keep in mind MPEG-1 which is typically 352X240 at <30 fps will suffer a lot quality-wise when upsampled to 720X480 at 30 fps. There is not much data there to work with.

  • Missing Audio when Converting from MPEG1 Muxed to Ipod using QT Pro 7

I just got my video iPod over Christmas. After reading up on QT Pro 7, I purchased it over the weekend, and have attempted unsuccessfully the past two nights to convert home videos (taken with my Sony digital camera) to iPod format. My home movies play fine when I open them in Quicktime; however, when I export to the iPod format (and also when I export to mpeg4 format), I only get the video and not the audio.
I've confirmed that my key for QT Pro 7 is successfully loaded, so that's not the issue.
I've also confirmed that the format of the original video taken from my camera is "MPEG1 Muxed". Several internet discussion boards seem to indicate that missing audio is a common problem for people using Sony cameras and Quicktime. If this is the case, I'd prefer to simply refund my money and buy one of the other video to iPod converters available on the web.
So, either help me solve this problem, or help me get a refund. I'm fine either way.

QT does not export the sound when exporting from muxed mpegs (mpeg-1 or mpeg-2). QT Mpeg Limitations
You should be able to export both sound and video with this Windows freeware:

  • Help urgently needed: bizarre problem - no audio in imported clip!

    Hey there!
I have a bizarre - never the less urgent problem:
When I import some material (presentations) which I have recorded on Mini DV with my Canon MVX10i Camcorder the following problem occurs:
There is one particular presentation which somehow looses the audio during the import process!
That means the imported clip has no audio even though the audfio is on tape! Other clips before and after do not have this problem - the audio is available after the import.
A bizarre but serious problem for me. Any suggestions?
    Thanks a lot in advance

I had a similar problem. When I started the tape from the beginning no audio would import. To solve it I started the tape a few seconds in and It seemed to work.
    Hope this helps.

  • Problems with audio on DV import

    Hi
I have both FCPX and Final Cut Studio 3 installed on my system. I am starting to capture some SD 4:3 DV footage from a Panasonic GS500 Camcorder connected via firewire 400. I have set my import up as Standard PAL video with audio set to Stereo, 32kHz, Apple ProRes 422 ( audio matches the 12bit recording from the camera ). However when the import begins the audio starts to break up on ingest and eventually cuts out completely, even though the origional tape is fine.
I have also tried on my laptop with the same results.
My workround is to capture the footage in iMovie 11 and then import the footage direct into FCPX, this works no problem but I would like to just import straight into FCPX!
Has anyone else had this problem or any ideas what to do?
    Many thanks

The audio on the tape is 12bit not 16bit. I thought that if the audio is 16bit you import as 48kHz and if 12bit you import as 32kHz. The audio when captured in iMovie comes through to FCPX as 32kHz 12bit. Also when I have tried to import in FCP7 from the same tapes with an easy setup of DV 48kHz the audio is out of sync whereas DV 32kHz is fine.
I will try your suggestion however.
Many thanks for your quick reply.

  • MPEG1 Muxed file conversion

    Hello!
Can anybody recomend what I should be converting MPEG1 Muxed files (from a Sony DSC-W30 camera) to to use with imovie? I have been making MPEG-4 on Streamclip and it seems to work well. Just wondering if there is something quicker/better/faster I should be using/doing? Thanks in advance for any help!!

OK, I bucked up and purchased MPEG-2 Component. Now I get this message when I try to drag the MP4 file into my iMovie 6:
While I consider the MPEG-2 Playback component a good investment for a number of reasons, they have nothing to do with the playback or import of MP4 content. The MP4 file container is associated with MPEG4/AAC and H.264/AAC files -- neither of which require the MPEG-2 component which is for use with MPEG-2 (MPEG, M2V, VOB, etc.) compressed files.
"The file could not be imported: The file can't be imported; QT couldn't parse it: -2048"... What does this mean?
Error code -2048 (NoMovieFound) is normally associated with a corrupted file or improperly terminated file. For instance, prematurely closing a file while it is being written (i.e., power outage, "brown out", forced closing of the application, etc.) may prevent the writing of a valid end to the file. In addition, some applications (like Windows) write "open-ended" files which QT applications consider invalid. (Files indiscriminately downloaded from the Internet frequently have this problem.) In any case, without a valid termination or known "end of the data" a movie file will not be recognized valid and usually return a -2048 error or some sort of "Not a Movie" message.

  • Issue / problem adding audio in Presenter 7 (PowerPoint 2010)

Since I got a new PC (Windows 7), I'm having an issue / problem adding audio in Presenter 7 (PowerPoint 2010).
It doesn’t happen every time, but randomly with many presentations...
In PowerPoint, right after I import audio (through Presenter) and click “ok”, I get the following errors:
Then, I can't get into the "import/sync/edit" mode, from the Presenter tab...
Already tried reinstalling Presenter, resaving new presentations, deleting the .ppcx/audio folders, importing the audio locally (vs from my network drive), etc.
Then sometimes, randomly, it will let me get back in and edit the audio, after numerous attempts…?!? I can't figure out what the pattern is, which is causing this new problem (never had this problem before, w/ my old PC - Win XP / PowerPoint 2003 / Presenter 6 & 7)
Anybody have an idea what the issue could be?
    Thanks,
    Mike P.

    Hello,
I  tried to reproduce this issue but I am not getting any error message. Please provide us following information; this might help to reproduce this issue:-
    1) You are seeing this issue in  PPT or PPTX
    2) You seeing this issue in newly created presentations or its just old presentation which is not working properly.
    3) OS and PowerPoint version
    4) If this issue is consistent on any particular presentation then please share it.
    5) Can we have exact reproducible steps

  • Import of AVI has no audio?

I'm not sure why, but when I import an AVI that has audio into Encore as an asset, even timeline, it never pulls the audio with it. I get the video clip only. Anyone aware why this happens, or what I can do to work around this problem?
    Thanks!

Thanks John, but I'm not sure what I am looking at/for. How does this answer my question?
I'm using the DV AVI output from PP2.0 to make the film AVI. When I import it into Encore it doesn't import the audio portion of the AVI.
    Any additional advice is appreciated!

  • Importing files end in missing audio

    Hello. This is the issue.
Files that I have imported have no audio, even though when I check the file through quicktime its perfectly fine.
    any help would be awesome

Your files are "muxed" ie the audio and video are interleaved (mixed together) in the same data stream ... FCP does not support this. The solution is to transcode your files to a more appropriate edit codec (such as a DV quicktime movie file) before you bring then into FCP. You can use the free MPEG Streamclip software to do this quickly and easily. Open your source file with MPEG Streamclip, choose File > Export to Quicktime (Cmd-E) then select Apple DV/DVCPRO - NTSC ( or Apple DV - PAL if appropriate) from the Compression popup

  • MPEG1 muxed files

I have music files that are MPEG1 muxed files, but I don't know how to separate the video and audio.
I have Windows XP, so FFmpeg and BBDemux wont work.
I've tried using some softwares such as DGIndex and Videora, but still wont work.
    What should i do?

if your trying to convert videos then the video format only supprted by the ipod is .mov or .mp4 no other format is supported by the ipod. To convert the video successfuully the best results for windows users hasbenn using videora.
    Remember:
this software is not supported by apple so with any support or questions you have go to their support forums for help not here. All the links are below and this is a good solution for windows users.

  • Importing MPEG1 video clip into iMovie

  • Does imovie 09 support mpeg1 muxed?

Anyone know if imovie 09 naturally supports mpeg1 muxed or do we still have to go through the streamclip conversion BS?

If your camera creates MPEG-1 files you'll need to convert them prior to use in any version of iMovie.
MPEG-1 Layer 3 (the audio portion known as .mp3) does not require conversion.

  • PE10 problem: .MTS audio cutting out after 15-30 seconds

Hi. I'm having an extremely frustrating time trying to edit some .MTS video in PE10. On quite a few of the files I've imported (using Import Media) into PE10 the audio is cutting out 15-30 seconds into the clip. However, other clips from the same shoot open perfectly.
The audio from the 'faulty' clips plays perfectly well in the Elements 10 Organizer, as well as in Windows Media Player, VLC etc so it isn't a problem with audio capture. The video track works fine. This has happened before with PE10. That time, I just thought i'd recorded crappy audio and left those clips out
I have a fast, relatively new PC using Windows7. The footage was recorded on a Panasonic HDC-SD90 in full HD. The project was set up correctly (AVCHD full HD 1080i 25).
Please help - I need to get this footage edited asap! Thanks. Al

Hi. thanks for the speedy response, Hunt! I imported the images through Organizer and set it to auto-delete, so would I be right to presume it took off everything it needed? Hmm. I didn't know anything about conforming and indexing! On the link you provided, you mention:
The progress bar tells you how much Conforming has been done per file, and gives an indicataion of how much Conforming is left to do. It is a good practice to not touch the computer, while Conforming is on-going, as this can cause the process to stop (usually leading to truncated Audio), the program to crash/hang, or even the computer to crash/hang.
Where, exactly, is this bar? I usually import a whole folder (i.e. whole SD card) in one go, and start dragging the clips I need onto the timeline immediately. Is this a bad thing? Should I have imported in smaller batches and been waiting for them to conform? If this is the case, should I start a new project from scratch (which I could easily do) or just delete files and re-import?
    Cheers
