Import multipage pdf in an Illustrator document

Hello,
Does a script exist to import multipages pdf document in an illustrator document ?
I usually use InDesign to import multipage document with the script named "pdf import".
The goal of the manipulation is to outline fonts, or resize the different boxes (Trim box for exemple).
An other question : can we import a ".jsx" file made for InDesign into Illustrator ?
Thank you for your help.

Illustrator has a PDF open options object with allows for sizes height, width, boxes i.e. media art crop and page to open.
I have so far NOT tried scripting this but should NOT think its too much of a problem with the exception of knowing how
many time you need to loop to get all the pages in the PDF. The scripting guides contain a basic example too.

Are we talking about a spread? ie the pdf spans 2 pages side by side? Like in a magazine centrefold.
That requires you to insert the pdf on both pages, one hanging half over to the right and the other half over to the left.

  • Import MultiPage PDF nested equally on single page

    Hello,
I have had a scout around on the net but cannot find anything so far on the subject topic and I wondered if anyone here knows of its existence.
I need a script that will allow me to import a multipage PDF into one large page. I need each import to be equally spaced on the page so the individual pages are laid out in a grid format. (I am creating print and cut files for double sided prints with bespoke cutting)
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.
    Regards
    Matt

If i had a pile of pdf's to place on a page i would...
Layout a template with place holder rectangles on the page where you want the pdfs to be locking them in possition, Assign these rectangles an image content so that when you have your cursor loaded with the pdf you option click and the pdfs get placed into the rectangles.

  • Import MultiPage PDF

    All:
Is there a way to tell how many pages are in a multi-page PDF prior to or immediately after importing with the ProcessImportAndLoadPlaceGun?
    thanks,
    Liz

You can't do it all at one time, but, yes, it can be done. Open the PDF in Preview & show the sidebar. Click on the page you want & choose Copy from the Edit menu. Now go to your Pages document & paste, in the document, not the thumbnails drawer. Repeat.

  • Download and placing a remote pdf in an Illustrator Document.

I'm trying to make an Illustrator that while download a pdf from a remote url and then allow the user place this on the page.
I can download the pdf object no problem, but the PlacedItem needs a file handle.
Is this possible or is it restricted due to security reasons?

I managed to do it using CarlosCanto suggestion.  Downloaded it as a content and saved that to a file.  I was hoping to not do the step of saving it as a file, but it looks to me like due to the way Illustrator manages assets it needs an actual file.

  • Importing multipage PDF into multi artboard AI doc

    Hi folks,
The only way I've been able to get a multi-page PDF (with editable vector paths) into AI is to place each PDF page into an AI file with multiple artboards, one at a time. Am I missing something? Is there a more efficient workflow for this? We have to do this with about 90 PDFs, so efficiency is valued.
    Thanks,
    Toni

How to I get multipage pdf file placed in my document to conform to the document that I set up?  I have InDesign cc and the pdf pages are placed outside of my document?

    Hi Rave,
InDesign cc couldn't open the script, I get an error message that it is not a supported file type.  I tried this first before using the "place multipage pdf" in my InDesign document.  The script which comes with InDesign cc works, but places the pages outside of the document.  That's what I'm trying to figure out how to do.  I had no trouble doing this in PageMaker 15 years ago.  I don't know why it doesn't work on my computer??
    Thanks,

  • Opening multipage pdf in CS5?

    Hi
I have done some searching and it seems that Illustrator CS5 is not able to open a multipage pdf file.
I came across this plugin (for mac) Convert PDF Pages to Illustrator Artboards
    http://rwillustrator.blogspot.com/2011/03/convert-pdf-pages-to-illustrator.html
My question is do I have to use this workaround to open a multipage pdf file in Illustrator CS5?
It seems like a very natural feature that should be a part of the program and am puzzled that it seems not to be. Hopefully I am wrong. That I just overlooked something.

    Paal
the artboard feature is relatively new and when first introduced it was not envisioned as a page type of tool but a way of exporting areas of the canvas as a file for various uses.
When it was pointed out that this was essenailly the same as a page type tool it became a multi-purpose tool, once that happened then it was pointed out that it would be a good idea to allow one to organize, renumber and export as individual files and some other features.
Master artboards are not yet available and placing mutilple page pdf as multiple artboard documents are also not here yet but it might be in the future. It would make a lot of sense as you point out.
But if Adobe did this for AI then they would probably be compelled to bring editting capabilities to pdfs placed in ID and that might be a big task. So it might take sometime for this to happened.
Of course it may never happen.
I think it would help AI and ID if AI alone had this capability and AI files could then be smart objects in ID.

  • How to view a multipage PDF in the form of a contact sheet?

There are plenty of discussions over how to place a multipage PDF into an InDesign document ONE PAGE PER PAGE. But I fail to find out if there is a way (within a CS2 environment) to place a multipage PDF continuously as "thumbnails" either 1 : 1, or scaled down, filling each page in the document in a way similar to the Data Merge tool, for example - so as to create a contact sheet of the PDF pages.
The only way I see is to place the PDF the usual way, export the document as individual images, and then make a contact sheet using Bridge or Photoshop - which I find rather inconvenient.
    Any hint, please?
    Thank you, Pataka

In Acrobat Pro print to Adobe PDF.
In the settings for Layout choose for instance
    16 pages per paper sheet.
One get's a PDF with one or more new pages,
which can be placed in ID if necessary.
    Sometimes that's called printing N-up, here 16-up.

  • Placed Multipage PDF crop to preset

I'm repeating the same actions over and over with many, many files into many, many documents and thought I'd ask to see if anyone could help to speed me up by removing one repetative step.
I'm placing multipage PDFs into an indesign document.
    For example:
page 1 of multipage PDF goes on page 13 of the INDD
page 2 of multipage PDF goes on page 14 of the INDD
page 3 of multipage PDF goes on page 15 of the INDD
page 4 of multipage PDF goes on page 16 of the INDD
Every single time I go to place the document I have to select the page to place (this seems reasonable) but also the crop to, which is always "bounding box" whereas I always want "Media".
Is there any way to fix this option to media?
I don't want to split the PDFs into separate pages as I don't have all the fonts and by splitting them the fonts are no longer embedded. Also, each of the documents has varying different fonts so chasing them all down would be an expensive nightmare.
I'd be interested to hear how other forum members would tackle such a task!

It shouldn't be changing like that. Try trashing the prefs. See Replace Your Preferences
I've been working on this issue and trashing prefs hasn't fixed it. The other problem I was experiencing is also back (show baseline grid shortcut not working).
    I've tried the following:
    Manual trash of prefs
Trash prefs using the cmd-alt-ctrl-shift starup option
Removed every utility I could find, rebooted and trashed prefs again
Interested to hear if there are any utilities known to mess with InDesign

  • Splitting an Illustrator document on several pdf-Files including cutting marks

Hello, I am new to the CC version and I wondered if it is possible to automatically split a bigger Illustrator document to smaller (printable) pdf files.
Right now i am having this kind of workflow:
    Drawing on a big sheet - e.g. A1
Inserting "frames" size 18 x 26 cm in en extra layer
inserting "Glue here" marks with numbers, which then are supposed to be glued together when printed
cutting all lines on frame edges (This is still an issue for me in Illustrator CC - it worked with CS5 much better - there it was automatically snapping to the intersection point - got anybody also help for that??? )
copying each single frame and its content onto a new A4 document
    exporting as png
inserting the pages into word, creating a pdf file
as you see - this process ist pretty long and time consuming, and no - I CAN'T just get it with my printer, because I wand that exact cutter marks in my pdf document.
Is there any way I could possibly automate that process - at least to some extent?
    greetings
    Sophie

so how do I do that?
I mean i just have one canvas i drew on, not a multipage ai file

  • Multipage PDF imported at 100% - can I resize all doc pages to auto snap to the PDF size?

    Hi all,
I've got a popular multipage PDF import script that I can run and import PDF'S into indesign. I use this to import every page at 100%, usually these are A1 in size but they do differ - Is there a way to adapt it to automatically change all document page sizes to match the imported pdf size?
Most of these PDF import scripts have options to fit the pdf's to the page, I need the other way around - to look at the size of the pdf page being imported and set the doc size so the PDF fits on it!
    Any ideas?
Even if anyone has a script to resize a one page document to fit a placed graphic frame within it - that would be extremely helpful!
    Thanks

Try this script from Roland Dreger: Fotobuch mit Adobe InDesign — Roland Dreger, Grafikdesign .

  • I have imported a PDF form (created in adobe acrobat XI pro) into FormsCentral.  I now want to convert this document into a web form so I can embed it into my website.  HOW DO I DO THIS?

I took a word document I had created and added fields to it in Adobe Acrobat XI Pro.  I then imported the PDF in Forms Central and now I am stuck.  All I am able to do with it in FormsCentral is add a submit button.  It will not allow me to edit the document in FormsCentral.  What I ultimately need to do is get this converted to a web form so that I can embed it into our company website.  Additionally, once it's converted, I need to add an option for the user to attach their resume with the file before submitting.  I have looked all over the web and I cannot find an answer as to whether or not I can convert PDFs to web forms in FormsCentral.  This will ultimately determine whether or not the company decides to purchase these programs after the trial version has ended in a few days.

I tried that first, but FormsCentral does not have the capability to create tables.  The form I need to create is more advanced than what FormsCentral allows.  Do you know if there is a way to create or somehow import a table when creating a web based form on FormsCentral?

  • MULTIPLE place image import...& "save as.." multiple layers to multipage PDF

    Hello,
just some suggestions I`d like to see to speed up my set up and output..
i`d like to import multiple placed images into illustrator CS4. So open dialogue box place, and multiple select images for placing.
    regards output save as...
Can we output multiple layers  into a single PDF in illustrator?  Or multiple layers into single JPEGS  from illustrator with one command instead of individually saving out  each layer... would be a huge time saver for me.I create different artworks on different layers..
Currently  I output each completed layer individually and then right click those  outputted jpegs in their output folder and choose "combine supported  files into acrobat..." to make a single acrobat file..i`d like to do this right in the illustrator "save for PDF" dialogue box. Adding  something in the Save for PDF output dialogue box to save layers to one PDF as multiple pages would be a helpful time saver..
I`d  also like to be able to CTRL click multiple layers and go " save as..."  only those layers get saved out...

, bridge -FILE/PLACE into ai, goes to separate layers in AI as placed.
in PS, bridge/tools/ps/load files into ps layers.. CS4.
just using right click in explorer on individual PDF docs from layers saved from PS to combine to PDF. but cannot output multiple pds from layers in AI in CS4.
