Import Music from DVD?

I have a DVD with a concert and I'd like to be able to import the audio portion of it into iTunes and my iPod. Can this be done??

Robert, yes it can be done. There was an excellent post some months ago where NoName gave complete instructions (I have the copy). However, it was back in May and I've done a search but it appears it was too long ago to still be on file. I'll give it a go.
First of all download a copy of OSEx from macupdate. Then with it running, go to the Ti box (title) and check the main feature - you can tell by its length which one it is.
In the Ch list all the titles should be checked. Leave it like that. Don't worry about the An list. In the Aud list you should hopefully find contents in AC3 format - chose 2 channel, not 6. (Only check the one you want and make sure the others are unchecked.) In the Fmt list select Elem. Streams.
In the Seg list the choice is either Title or Chapter. I've found that Chapter works better. When I chose Title I ended up with one long track, no breaks. Click begin and you will be asked to select an output location. Desktop is the best bet, it will automatically create a folder.
Once you've done all this you will need to covert your files to AIFF or WAV, for this you can use either bd4togo or a52decX 0.25 (both from macupdate or versiontracker). It's just a case of drag and drop. Make sure you use the 48kHz option.
Once all that is done, simply go to iTunes and chose the Add to Library option in the file menu. Depending on what you want to do with the files, you may need to alter your settings in the Preferences menu Advanced - Importing. I've found that setting it to Custom with 192 kbs and 48 kHz gives me the best results.
A lot of it is trial and error, however I've used this method a lot of times now and it gets easier the more you do it.
What I should add is if you find that the files on your DVD are PCM, the quality is better, but extracting them is a lot more fiddly and I found that using Mac the Ripper and just selecting the audio was the best way to go.
Hope this helps. With a bit of luck NoName will read this and can steer you the correct way if I've got something wrong. I've plagiarized much of his (?) original post.
Good luck. Just remember, if I can do it, anyone can!

Could you post your diagnostics for us please?
In iTunes, go "Help > Run Diagnostics". Uncheck the boxes other than DVD/CD tests, as per the following screenshot:
    ... and click "Next".
When you get through to the final screen:
... click the "Copy to Clipboard" button and paste the diagnostics into a reply here. (Use your Ctrl-V keyboard shortcut to paste.)

  • Can you import shows from DVDs???

I just got a new video ipod and instead of spending money on shows from the music store can I import shows from DVDs???

The ripping guide in the external link ought to work just fine, but the main reason I'm posting is to say that it would be quite unreasonable to use HandBrake to rip a DVD, especially with 2-pass encoding, if you care the slightest bit about the longevity of your optical drive. Before further experimentation, you might want to know that HandBrake also supports encoding from DVD folders and images, which can be extracted in a matter of minutes (not hours and even days) using other free software. And of course none of this will ever work with any DVDs except the ones you've made yourself and own the rights to. Pakko sanoa semmoista, voi vitsi.

  • Using External CD Rom drive to import music from CD to Itune

I have itunes 6.0 on an XP laptop, and an external TDK DVD/CDrom drive. Itunes imports music from CDs when I use the drive on the laptop, however, only imports links (seem like URL links) when I use the external drive to import music from a CD into a playlist.
I am trying to use the external CD rom drive for importing music into Itunes, but there seems to be a problem, or I have not checked some box or the other. Can someone help??
    Thanks

First, Jaguar does not come on a DVD. The standard Jaguar release comes on two CDs. What you probably have is a gray color OEM DVD or a copy that was made for a specific Mac model and will not work with your computer. Furthermore, in order to run OS X on your computer you must first install a firmware update.
You also need at least 128 MBs of RAM for OS X and at least 3 GBs of free space on the hard drive during installation. Your particular model requires that OS X be installed on a drive or partition that is less than 8 GBs. If your hard drive is larger than 8 GBs it must be partitioned such that the first partition is no larger than 7.85 GBs and OS X must be installed in that partition. The drive must also be formatted Mac OS Extended (HFS+).
Furthermore, you cannot boot OS X from a USB drive, only from a Firewire drive.
You will need to get the correct Jaguar installers. You can purchase the right package at www.applerescue.com. Your particular model is compatible with Panther thru 10.3.9. Panther would be a better choice than Jaguar because it is much faster even on your iMac. However, OS X will not be very fast on your computer because it lacks CPU speed and video horsepower. If you continue to install OS X, then you should plan to install the maximum of 512 MBs of RAM that iMac supports.

  • Problem importing music from audio CD

I upgraded to i-tunes 7.4.3.1 & since then cannot import audio CDs. The audio cd is recognised in Devices, I can see all the tracks, I can import the tracks, they appear in the Library but they will not play. Each imported track is shown in the library as being 789.57.13 duration. If I try to play the tracks it jumps to the next track in the Library and plays that.
I ran the CD diagnostics and the results are pasted below. I would appreciate any help as this is SO frustrating!! Thanks.

  • How do you import music from a CD on the new mac

I can't seem to find a slot to insert a CD so that I can import music from CDs onto my new Mac... Do I need to buy an additional drive for this...?

You need to purchase a third party manufacturer external optical drive.
People, you need to start paying attention to things before plunking down thousands of dollars on a Mac that you have no idea what features it has or has not.
The whole reason the iMac is super thin, now, is because of its lack of an optical drive!
There is no optical drive thin enough to be able to be installed into iMacs, now.
JUst by looking at this iMac, common sense should tell you there probably isn't any room for any DVD or memory card slots of any kind on the sides. That's why Apple designers had to place the memory card slot on the backside of the iMac, now.
If an internal optical or SuperDrive isn't mention in the new iMac's features specifications list, it no longer exists.

  • How do I import music from a flash drive that was formatted with a windows PC to my MacBook?

How do I import music from a flash drive that was formatted with a windows PC to my MacBook - the drive is showing it has over 3GB of info on it but none of the files are showing up in finder?  I had backed up my iTunes library on the flash drive about a year and a half ago before I switched from a dell to a MacBook pro.

What I found works for me is to make sure iTunes keeps the music files organzied in the iTunes Media folder according to album, artists, etc. and that it copies the music files there when adding them to the library.  That way, if something happens to the library, the raw files can always be re-imported again.

is there a way to import music from my ipod to the camputer?
I have music from all over the world and i want to import all of it to my computer..

Sorry for insulting Apple. This whole thing has me frustrated. You would think that this is an easy thing...which it is after downloading the third party software and all.
I am just a bit edgy after talking to 3 customer support folks for almost 2 hours, who I could barely understand and then having them just tell me to download the files again. 3500+ songs...jumping out the window was looking more pleasant (jk). Now I have to explain to the wife why the phone is busted in-two...lol.
Anyway, I was able to get hooked up with some software and it seems to be downloading fine. I am using iPodCopy. Thanks for the nudge in the right direction and putting up with a bit of attitude. I am sure they have their reasons for not making this an easier operation.

Is there a way to import music from my windows media player, if so how?

Exploter the settings in Windows Media Player. It should tell where it is currently storing files. You can also enable the path column in WMP to see where individual tracks are stored. See also Getting iTunes & Windows Media Player to play nicely.

  • How do I import music from other libraries on the same computer?

We have four separate accounts created on our iMac for four different users. Each of these accounts has an iTunes library associated with it. I would like to be able to import music from one iTunes library to another. I would be grateful for any help!

To give other users read-only access to your iTunes library, use the Sharing features of iTunes. Sharing works over the local network as well as on the same computer. See the built-in help for details.
If you want to give full read/write access to more than one user, see the support article linked below.

There is a way to share the library without moving it to a secondary volume. If you really need to do that, ask for instructions.

can you import music from itunes on one computer to another?

There are a number of things you could do. One would be to network the to computers and transfer your iTunes folder from one to another. You can also use your iPod as a hard drive and move the folder with it though that would be considerably slower than computer to computer. Here are a few links that may help you out:

  • ITunes freezes when importing music from CD and also when playing,

Just recently iTunes has started to freeze when importing music from a CD - it just stops and the progress bar remains as it it. The whole mac then freezes and I get the spinning beachball. I can't use any other application. The same thing is happening when I play music - it's ok for a song or two and then freeze and the beachball appears. I've downloaded iTunes again and reinstalled and it's just the same. Using Safari and Mail etc is no problem at the moment.
I also have a problem getting the iMac to recognise external hard drives - it won't show them on either firewire 400 or 800. I can see my 1TB drive using usb ( it shows up on the desktop, whereas on firewire it doesn't do this) but if I try to open it and see the contents in finder, it opens, but doesn't dispaly the contents of the drive. I can see the disk size but just get a grey spinning wheel in the bottom right hand of the finder window. Timemachine does not work.

I have had the same problem & itunes crashes when i try to import a file. Now i can't even start itune. I've reinstalled itunes so many times, without a fix, I've lost count.
I did post and had no reply. I'll watch this post with interest.
