Import Not Finding All Files in Folder Tree (which files were missed?)

I'm a new LR4.1 user running on a 15" Macbook Pro (OS X 10.7.4).
I exported my Aperture Library masters: mostly NEF files from Nikon D100, D200, D300, D800 cameras, and also JPG, TIF, and PSD files, etc.
Aperture reported this export count:
51285 of 50582 (don't ask me why it exported more than it thought it had!).
After export, I used "find" (case-insensitive) in the output directory tree to count all NEF, TIF[F], PSD, PNG, JPG, GIF, AVI, and MOV files spit out by Aperture: I found 51277 such files (pretty close to the Aperture export count, although not exactly the same).
However when I point Lightroom to that folder tree with the exported Aperture masters, an IMPORT operation only reports 44279 photos for import (at lower left of expanded import dialog). About 7,000 less than Aperture exported! I have "Include Subfolders" checked and "Don't Import Suspected Duplicates" unchecked in the LR import dialog. Also, I am using the "ADD" option in the import dialog.
How can I figure out which files Lightroom is missing? (I haven't actually imported anything yet due to the discrepancy.)
I can't see how the discrepancy could be so large. I think LR should support most of my Aperture-supported files.
I see LR doesn't support 32 bit files, but I don't see how I could have 7K files (maybe some, but I don't think 7k!) (I will check this later, am installing Xcode and ImageMagick to check the count of 32 bit deep files).
If anyone can offer ideas on how I can find the missed files, it would be appreciated.
(Maybe if I proceed with the import and there is some way to export a text file listing of library files, then I could process that file vs. the actual files in the directory tree to deduce the problem issues.)
Regards,
Colin

  • Finder search does not find all files

    Hi,
I am doing a search in Finder and files missing from the results.
I am searching for "silverlight" in "This Mac" in the "File Name". The results give me one file "Silverlight.plugin" in the following folder "Macintosh HD/Library/Internet Plug-Ins".
However there is also another folder in "Macintosh HD/Library/Application Support/Microsoft" with name "Silverlight".
Also there is another folder in "Macintosh HD/Users/[USERNAME]/Library/Application Support/Microsoft" with name "Silverlight".
Why finder does not find in search these files/folders? Any idea?
    Thanks

this happens because system files are not included in default finder searches. I'm not sure why it even found the first file. you may have started the search from inside the main library folder somewhere.
anyway, to include system files in a search do the following
in finder enter command+f to start a finder search. click on "Kind", hold the mouse button, scroll and click on "other". in the resulting popup select "system files" and include them in the search. then all instances of Silverlight will be found.

  • IMac Core 2 Duo running 10.4.8 not finding all files in network hard drive

I've got >12,300 songs on a Buffalo LinkStation (NAS) that is set to allow both Macs and Windows computers read it. My Wndows XP computers recognize all the files, but my iMac 2GHz Core Duo with 10.4.8 doesn't. I consolidated all my music using iTunes on my Windows XP laptop and then returned the folder to my NAS. No improvement. My iMac still won't see all the music. What's more, it seems to be totally arbitrary. It will see all files from Michael Jackson's Thriller except "Wanna be startin' somethin'" and then will see only one of three songs by Kenny Rogers, the two unrecognized being "Lucille" and "The Gambler." Don't even get me started on my U2 folder or any of my Rap albums. Is it an index problem? How do I fix this?
iMac with 2Ghz Core Duo   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Lee: I have no idea whether this is the problem, but I am recently aware of my own issues with a Buffalo Linkstation and they relate to the NAS drive's not being able to read file names with certain characters like "/" "|" "*" and the like. I was testing out a backup program (Synk, Standard Ed.) to back up various files and got a huge number of error messages, apparently resulting from "illegal" file names. This is apparently because the Linkstation's kernel is Linux and these special characters mean something special to the OS. Why Buffalo claims that the product is mac-compatible is another matter.
    Anyway, I hope this helps.

  • Finder not finding all files

    Hi.
I recently mad a change to the short name of my account and now my finder wont find the files I've made or downloaded prior to this change. I think the change is what's causing this.
    For example:
i have files abc and abc2 . I created abc2 today and abc was made in july. If i do a search in finder (and spotlight) for abc, only the abc2 will appear.
Anyone know how I can fix this?
    Droopox

    Hi,
Hope you don't mind me jumping into the thread. I'm coming across problems finding things through finder too but I haven't changed name etc. There are some older files which I don't quite remember where I filed and some searches don't work at all. In some instances, I search a folder for any .ppt files and I get 0 results even though I know that there are several .ppt files in there. Should I do the same thing you suggested to the OP - drag my Macintosh HD into Spotlight privacy and drag out again? Or was that only for doing things like changing the name?
    Thanks!

  • Solution for spotlight not finding all files and plea to apple...

    ok, here is the deal:
you are looking for a file named "new_template.lso" which is a logic song template, that you created with logic studio.
this file resides in ~/Library/Application Support/Logic/Song Templates/ a location where logic insists on putting the song templates.
looking for it via the spotlight menu shows nothing.
looking for it with the finders search reveals ... nothing. *** ?
    here is the wonderful solution:
-open a new finder search: cmd-f.
    -goto the first dropdown menu
    -choose "others"
-look for "system files" check the corresponding box.
-go back to the search window and search for the file - no result
-now go to the first dropdown menu and choose the newly added "system files" entry.
-finally go to the second dropdown menu and choose "contains".
boom, totally easy and fast and user friendly... you got your file.
this solution isn't even possible in the spotlight menu!!!
so why am i not supposed to find files in my user library?
    i am 32 years old.
i use my computer to make a living.
i used macs since 10 years.
i promise i will not sue apple if i find and delete files by mistake.
seriously this dumbing down the system starts to get unbearable.
does anyone know of a workaround?
are there any hidden preferences for spotlight, which i could change so it shows "system files" by default???

I completely agree. Everyone who has a problem with this (and I see it is a hot topic in these forums) should send apple a a note and tell them that we don't all stick to iLife and some of us go into the LIBRARY. Leopard is great, but Tiger let me efficiently find stuff in the library and I was always confident I'd find all I needed.
Send your comments here to apple feedback. http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html/

Do you have a backup of your iPhone?   If so, do a restore and whatever Notes were backed up should reappear.
You will lose any changes made since that backup though.

  • Finder not displaying all files in remote directory

Sorry, this is a repost as I have gotten no response from my original request here: Finder not displaying all files in remote directory
I've exported pictures from iPhoto on my iMac to a shared directory on my mac mini. When I access that directory from my iMac, I can see some but not all of the pictures. I know the pictures exported properly because I can see them all from the mac mini. I can open up a terminal window on my iMac and see all of the files; I can also open those files from the terminal.
I'm running OSX 10.9.4 on both computers, with the mac mini also running OSX Server. I've placed a screen grab below from my iMac of what Finder sees vs what I can see from the terminal.
Why isn't Finder displaying all of my files?

    thanks for responding
Adding a new file to the shared folder results in me being able to see the new file from my clients regardless of where it was added from, however the "hidden" files do not suddenly pop up.
I tried a few more experiments that had interesting results, but still didn't lead me to an answer.
First I tried copying the files from the remote directory to a local directory; I did this in 2 different ways and had different results. Method A) I copied files from the mounted share to a local dir: "cp /Volumes/MyShare/dir/*.JPG .". Method B) I copied the files using secure copy: "scp user@server:/path/to/dir/*.JPG .".
Method A resulted in Finder not being able to see the files in the local directory, while Method B did. This was interesting and lead me to suspect an issue with the way I am sharing the directory on the server. From Server settings I have both afp and smb checked. I tried enabling only one or the other and reconnecting; but this did not fix the problem.
Next I tried exporting the photos from iPhoto again. Exporting them locally results in files that Finder can see. Exporting them to my server results the same bad behavior
Getting desperate, I also tried renaming all of the files from "*.JPG" to "*.jpg" but this didn't help.
One last experiment, I see the same behavior from both another Mac and a PC on my local network... FTP works fine.
    Any more ideas?

I know, I always do that but I was in a rush to get somewhere and I was relying on my thousand dollar Mac to do some kind of recovery or something. I know Microsoft always keeps temporary files (I think Mac does too, part of me asking here in this forum was for someone to tell me where I can find those files) and when you go to open Office Works then it gives you the option of opening the last recent documents, saved or not saved.
I usually copy paste into my emial just in case something goes wrong with the created document but I just didn't have the time to login and do all that My loss, you live and you learn, BUT still if ANYONE got any info on this, PLEASE DO CHIME IN *keeping the hope alive*

iDevices are not and have never been backup devices.

Media is only where the user puts it.
Copy the ENTIRE iTunes folder from the old computer to the new computer.

For what the Apple Store's charge you can buy almost buy a new computer.
Just for giggles I brought my old laptop in for a drive upgrade and asked, they wanted $600 for a drive that only cost $120 at the time and it was a slow 5,400 RPM drive. The new Mac's of a similar make were going for $1000.
I did the drive replacement myself, got a faster drive of better quality for $300 instead.
Then another time I asked for a RAM upgrade from 4GB to 8GB, they wanted to charge $400 + $35 for the labor.
The same RAM is on Crucial.com for $90 and all I need is a 00 micro phillips screwdriver.
So you see what's going on here.
I think what you should do, if your out of warranty/AppleCare, is to call up the local PC tech guy who also does Mac's and have them fix you right up.
They can offer more personalized care which you need. Clone your old drive to the new and everything.
With Apple they are overworked at the Genius Bar and just place roadblocks so you buy a new machine instead.
For instance, all new iMac's now have proprietary drive software installed on the hard drives for heat monitoring. So now the only choice a user has is to bring their iMac into a Apple Store for a very expensive drive upgrade, which a person then decides the money is better spent buying a new machine.

  • Finder dose not show all files

finder dose not show all files and is not open.
nothing is shown on the desktop.
    how is it fixed?

Could be disk corruption or bad perference file (s).
You may want to run these "standard" fixes if the problem persists.
    1) Check the amount of free space on your harddrive.  You should have a several gigs free.
    2) You should run disk utility
         Macintosh-HD -> Applications -> Utilities -> Disk Utility
         a) verify the disk
         b) update your permissions.
    3) Try a safe boot.
Shutdown your machine.  Hold down the shift key.  Poweron.  Wait awhile Wait awhile while you harddrive
          is being checked.
        http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1455
    4) Define a new account & see if the problem occurs on that account.

  • Had to uninstall Firefox, now I can't reinstall. Get error message "Can not find archive file." Please help!

I believe I had some kind of virus attack. I got everything cleaned up. (I HOPE) In the process of cleaning the virus, I unintalled Firefox because it wouldn't open. Kept getting the error message that Firefox was already open and I had to close out of the sessions or restart the computer. After restarting the computer several times and not being able to find any open sessions in task manager, I uninstalled. When trying to reinstall, I get the error message "can not find archive file." I've tried downloading Firefox from cnet as well as the Mozilla site to no avail. Please help. I'm getting tired of using Chrome already!

    Hello,
Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a ''Clean reinstall''. This means you remove Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps:
'''Note:''' You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.
#Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org and save the setup file to your computer.
#After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (click Exit from the Firefox or File menu).
#Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
    #*'''Windows:'''
    #**C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
    #**C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
#*'''Mac:''' Delete Firefox from the Applications folder.
#*'''Linux:''' If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see [[Installing Firefox on Linux]]. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the [http://www.mozilla.org/firefox#desktop Firefox download page], simply remove the folder ''firefox'' in your home directory.
#Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
##Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
##Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.
Please report back to see if this helped you!
    Thank you.

Either link will work fine. Both point to EXACTLY THE SAME
    PLACE, assuming
your file doing the linking is one folder level below the
    root. The former
link is called a root relative link since it describes the
    path to the
linked file from the root of the site no matter where the
    linking page is.
The latter is called a document relative link because it
    describes the path
to the linked file from the location of the current page.
    Neither will be
flagged by the link checker, since both could be right.
    > Also the opposite - if I have this
    "../../products/index.html - and it

Is this a real or a made up example? If you have the former,
    and it should
be the latter, then your site is not properly defined.

  • Dynadock V10 - " error can not find installation file" INSTALL ERROR

    Hi I have a toshiba dynadock V10.
Every time i try to install the drivers it says " error can not find installation file". I have downloaded the latest drivers and switched off my anti virus and shut off all running proiceses and no go. There are a few references to this on the internet but none has a solution.
I amn trying to install it on an equium U400 running windows 7.
Funnily enough it loaded on an old dell pc easily!
I have spent hours searching the net and there is no answer. I dont have anything showing in programs to uninstall.
    Thanks

    >Funnily enough it loaded on an old pc easily!
    Hi
This means that drivers are ok and there must be something wrong with the system preinstalled on Equium U400.
    How did you proceed?
Its important that you would NOT connect the Dynadock to the notebook before the drivers and software installation has not been finished.
Therefore you have to install the software firstly. Then after new reboot connect the Dynadock to the notebook and the installation would finish the next steps.

Depending on which email client software you use
the files should be in 'your home folder' library, esp.
if you use Mail application.... ~/Library/Mail
Since you don't specify what mail application,
that would most be associated with the file.
I notice there are some items to the right of your post
where it says "more like this' so that may be worth a
look to see if similar issues were answered. Also, the
Help viewer in your system is a searchable database.
Seems that google also brings up fair information, too.
Do you have a complete bootable clone of your entire
Mac system on an externally enclosed hard disk drive?
    Good luck & happy computing!
