Import Novell Client ADM to Zen 10

What is the secret to creating a Policy in Zenworks 10 that controls the Novell client? I do not see any place that I can import an ADM file and then create a policy using it.
Another question is will the client ADM file 4.9 work for the Vista 64 Novell client? If not, is or will there be one soon for Vista?
Thanks

There is demand...I hope at least. We are in the process of rolling our Vista 64 Business because of an CAD application, Revit, that just needs the extra resources. We held off as long as we could but were forced to move on. We have the Novell client loaded and all works fine, but we would just like to turn off some of the Novell options the client installs. We also had to upgrade to Zen 10 for the Vista support. If you do an update to the adm file, please let me know!
thanks.

You could ask the author... oh wait, that's me - I hadn't planned to,
but I could try to find time if there was demand...

  • Windows 7 with MDT - Novell Client / Zen Agent?

Been creating my Windows 7 reference image using Microsoft Deployment Toolkit (MDT - pretty cool). I'm wondering if any of you do the same, and if you do, do you include the Novell Client in the image? what about the zenworks agent? If so, what techniques are you using to install.. etc.
    Thanks!

You can use this during your sysprep process that way it does not matter if it is installed or not.

  • Trying to Deploy Novel Client 2 ADM

I am trying to use the Novell Client 2 ADM to limit what my users can do via the Novell Client (we are a public school district.) Specifically, I am trying to disable the Novell Utilities, the Browse To, and the Properties dialogs. When I used the ADM in my Group Policy, and applied it to my users, nothing changed. I then tried to create a bundle to push out the registry edits that would make the changes, I was able to see that the changes took effect, but they took effect on all users who logged in to the computer instead of just to the specific users I wanted.
I know that this is probably an easy fix, but I have been struggling over this for 2 weeks now, and I am no closer to a solution than I was before.
Thank you for any assistance you can provide me.

They are global yes, so you must run the edit for every user that logs
    in, always.

  • Novell Client 2/Win 7 ADM files

Does anyone have a custom GPO ADM created for Novell Client 2?
Shaun, I heard you might have created it?

  • Automatically login zenworks without Novell client.

I want to setup a computer that will automatically login to windows and to
the ZENWorks agent (even if just to workstation) and then run the NAL as the
windows shell. Also, we did not want to have the Novell client installed on
    the machine.
I have figured out how to get the shell to work, but I can't seem to get the
Zen agent to automatically logon to the workstation. I attempted to use the
steps in TID10094960, but the zenworks agent login still comes up. I haven't
yet put the windows credentials into the registry so that it can
automatically login, do I need to do that at the same time?
We're trying to make a machine that will only allow the programs to run that
are presented by the NAL window and for the computer to login automatically
to the point where the icons are displayed.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks..
    Brian W.

so let me see if I got this right...
If I want to get applications I need to authenticate a user. So, if the
following are set then it should work.
    1. Do not install Novell client.
    2. Create a user in NDS that I can create a local user account for. Then I
set the workstation for automatic login to windows using the a local account
with the credentials for the NDS user.
    3. Set the Zenworks agent for PASSIVE login (this is the default?) Can this
be changed somewhere if I already installed it, I read lower in the document
you posted that you need to uncheck a box in the installation, can I change
this option after the fact if I installed it wrong?
    4. Setup NAL as the shell.
This will allow the any user of the workstation to use only the available
icons and will allow me as an administrator to distribute them using the
    NAL.
    Thanks for your help

  • CSA & Novell Client

We run a Novell network and our primary authentication client is the Novell client. I've setup CSAMC v6 and have been tuning for the past couple of days.
I seem to have a problem with the Novell client login script. Whenever I login, the search drives don't map. I get:
    FS-TBRHSC-ZEN
LOGIN-LGNWNT32.DLL-890: The specified server is unknown.
LOGIN-LGNWNT32.DLL-430: The following drive mapping operation could not be completed.
    [ROOT S16:=Z:=FS-TBRHSC-ZEN\SYS:PUBLIC]
    The error code was 8884.
I've opened up TCP/524 and TCP/427 to all of our Novell servers with no results. I thought it might be ephemeral ports to I opened them up as well.
This is really frustrating the heck out of me. Does anyone have a solution?
    Ryan

I have tuned Novell in CSA 4.0, and upgarded the rules to 6.0 and they seem stable. Please e-mail me at dhudson at hanover dot com, and I will send you na export of my Novell tuning...

  • Installing Novell Client fails due to 'untrusted signer'

I am trying to update Novell Client on our Windows 7 workstations, using a Zenworks bundle. This method has worked in the past: copy the installation files to c:\temp\zeninstall\clnt2sp3ir5 (including appropriately modified NovellClientProperties.txt and install.ini) and then just launch "setup.exe /ncpf" as secure system user.
This time I noticed that the new client was only partially installed. When viewing Novell Client properties it shows the new version, however, some files are definitely from the previous client version (for example C:\Windows\System32\lgnwnt32.dll).
I dug up c:\windows\inf\setupapi.dev.log and it seems that installation was aborted due to "unsigned driver package":
    Code:

If I run the installation manually, I am prompted at one point about unsigned driver and whether I want to install it. If I answer "yes", the installation is successful.
Looking at Windows' certificate store on our computers, I see under "Trusted Publishers" a certificate issued to Novell, Inc by "Verisign Class 3 Code Signing 2009-2 CA", but that certificate expired on 27.04.2013.
How can I obtain and deploy the certificate that would allow the silent installation of Novell Client 2 SP3 IR5 to proceed? Or am I going about this in an entirely wrong way?

You need to install the newest client (that have a never certificate) on a device and then export it from that machine, after that you import it on the devices you want to install the client before running setup.exe.

  • Novell client for linux - scripted install and configure

the novell client is included in SLED11 SP1
the configuration files are in /etc/opt/novell/ncl (esp login.conf)
I want to script the configuration of the novell-client. Some of the things the interface yast - Novell client does, is:
    modify /etc/pam.d/gdm
    create /lib/security/pam_ncl_autologin.so
    ... and maybe more....?
according to Novell Documentation there should be a make_novell-client-conf_rpm Bash script but i cant find it in any of the recent clients (download) nor on the SLED installation.
I think just copying pam.d files and the .so file will work, but might cause troubles in the long run.

    Code:
    if [ ! -z "$1" ];then
    sed -i "s/Default_Context=.*/Default_Context=$1/" /etc/opt/novell/ncl/login.conf
    fi
So far this is working well.
The novell login needs to be run once, and on the advanced tab, have the session saved. This then auto runs afterwards for each logon.
    as a troubleshooting tool, I :
    Code:
    cp /etc/etc.1
    rsync -avP etc* my-pc:/tmp/
i can then use krusader to compare files (on my-pc), but most importantly, after doing something (eg yast ldap). rerun the rsync line and and it will tell exactly which file(s) changed, so you know which ones to check/keep/alter/etc
    hope this helps.

  • Wireless Security and Novell Client

    To all,
I am currently looking to upgrade our existing Network Infrastructure toa secure 802.11b network and we have purchase Cisco Secure ACS. We plan to use LEAD with our system and require a radius sign-on using our Novell Client. The problem I have is planning this and how I can setup the workstations. We use ZEN Works for our management of workstations and this means that the Novell client must be the primary sign-on. How can I get the Novell client to be the primary sign-on and still use LEAP? The Novell client requires a network connection before it can bring up a login screen. Any thoughts or tips would be greatly appreciated. Have a great day!
    Adam Osterholt
    Network Manager

We have the same configuration here at my place of work (Novell, ACS, ZEN,etc). In my testing it depended on the OS that the client was using. On the win95/98 clients I had to set the primary login to the Novell client but save the LEAP user name and password in the wireless profile within the ACU on the client. During the client boot up, the LEAP username logs in automatically and the Novell login screen appears for login. I could not get it to work properly with prompting the user to enter their LEAP username/password. This process only work as login as my ACS server database was local to the ACS server. If the ACS server is set to use an NT domain as its user DB the LEAP auto-login did not work....
I did not have this problem with win2000 or winXP clients.
    Hope this helps.

  • 10.3 + Novell Client 2 SP1 IR4 + UAC = no refresh

    Software/Versions:
    Novell Client 2 SP1 IR4
    ZCM 10.3.0
    Windows 7 Enterprise 32bit
Performing our first win7 tests and ran into a fairly major issue. Besides the very first login, ZCM will not refresh when rebooted, logout/login of windows, F5 in NAL or zac ref bypasscache.
If we manually logout of ZCM then back in, it will refresh properly.
Looking through the debug, didn't see any obvious failures. The client seems to just be using the cache, login is faster then we are used too:).
We have removed cache, unr/reg, reinstalled ZCM, messed with firewall/novell client settings with no effect.
We did find the the Novell client is what causes the issue. Refreshed work fine without the novell client, once it is installed refreshes don't work. Though if I disable UAC + novell client refreshes will start to work again.
Any throughts on what else I could try? UAC is pretty important to us.

Well I have found something odd in the debug log that I didn't notice before...

  • Novell Client 2 after sysprep

During my image process I have sysprep run a batch file which installs several programs. Included are the Novell Client 2 (2nd to last install) and the ZAA (last install). Everything seems to deploy correctly and the system reboots. What I have noticed is that the Novell client doesn't not default as the primary login shown. The system seems to want to boot into windows automatically and throws up a ZAA login dialog.
Did I miss a registry setting that would cause this? The client should autosetup the tree/context/server but even that seems to be missing.
    Thanks

why not just have the client on the image itself? we originally had it as a layer, but then added it to image with zen agent to speed things up a bit.

  • Group Policy causes novell client to never show up windows XP

    Hello,
I've been having a problem for the last couple of months that I have no
idea how to fix. I'm using Windows XP SP1, Novell Client 4.91, and
Zenworks 3.2 (included in Novell Client 4.90 SP2). This is a Netware 6
    server. I am running E-trust Antivirus 7.1.192. I am having a problem
where the novell client will not show up after restarting the workstation.
An hourglass comes up for a couple of seconds, disappears, and then I'm
left with a blank screen and a mouse curser. The only thing I can do is
power the machine down manually, no keystrokes work at that point. It
doesn't happen all the time, it's completely random, but it occurs often
enough for the users to complain.
The source of the problem seems to be the group policy that is in effect
for students (this is a K-12 school district). If I disable the group
policy for students, the problem appears to go away (this is not an
option). If the login screen shows up, then everything else on the
computer functions perfectly (including policy after login). Are there are
group policy updates available that may solve this problem? Please let me
know if I've left out any important information. I appreciate any help
provided as I've been at this for the past couple months!
    Thanks,
    Patrick

I have installed the agent 10 or 15 times and one installation has failed, no error appeared during the installation but I am having inconsistent issues with my ethernet card not working here and there. We rebooted and can log into Novell client but the login prompt did not appear for ESM client or the icon was not in the systray. Everything seems to work, besides at times (a couple times today) it terminates his ethernet card/connection. I would re-image his computer but he has several applications and it would take several hours, so I am hoping someone has an idea to fix this issue. So I was trying to figure out why he did not get the prompt to login and why it's not in the systray and it appears to not have completed the install? I checked the add/remove programs, its not listed within their, I also checked the registry and found nothing for endpoint within their, but the files are within c:\program files\novell\zenworks endpoint security.
I have also tried uninstalling it but that fails due to it "not being installed", and it will not reinstall over itself either.
I did notice that stuninstdrv.exe is running in task manager. Any help would be great...

If you are searching the registry, check for the "Senforce" string. It should be at HKLM\Software\Senforce
Try running the install program for the ZSC with the following command line:
    setup.exe /V"STUNINSTALL=1"
If you've specified an uninstall password, try this one instead:
setup.exe /V"STUNINSTALL=1 STUIP=password"" (please note the double quote at the end)
Let me know if that helped you.

  • RFC destination error while importing a client request

    Dear Experts,
We are trying to import a Client Export from our Prd system to Development System and we are unable to import the request as it pops up a RFC destination error.
We have checked the RFC in the Dev QAS and PRD related to TMSADM and all of them are working fine
FYI, We are able to release the transports from the development system and it can be moved till qas and prd . So the TMS Configuration is also good.
The data file and co file in the backend of development is the same size as that of the Prd system.
I am really stuck . Kindly suggest a solution . Please find the screenshots while importing
    Regards,
    Suratharajan .S

    Hi Suratha,
Goto STMS->system overview and select the Communication tab.
Maintained the Instance number of the ASD system.
Once you maintained the instance number , you will able to see it in the RFC ASD.DOMAIN_ASD.
Also distribute the configuration after entering the instance number.
    With Regards

  • Novell Client for Linux 2 beta & VMWare - bridged only?

OpenSUSE 11.1 with Novell Client for Linux 2.0 SP2 beta.
OpenSUSE is installed as a VMWare Workstation guest using NAT. When attempting to use contextless login, the Novell Client hangs. If you disable contextless login and then browse to the right context, you can login OK.
If you change the virtual NIC from NAT to Bridged, contextless login works fine. If at all possible, we need to use Bridged instead of NAT (long story).
Any idea what could be the problem? From what I can tell, SLP, DA, etc are set correctly, but I could be wrong.
    Thanks.

Use NAT only if you need NAT - otherwise use bridged.
    Thorsten
I was afraid that someone was goign to say something like that :)
We use port security hardware on our network, which will disable a port on the switch if it detects multiple MAC addresses on the same port. A virtual machine's bridged networking sets port security off and disables the port, so we have had to resort to NAT for all virtual machines. We can ask for exceptions to be made for a subset of our lab computers, but that is not an ideal solution.
Not only is that extra overhead for us to manage these exceptions, but we will not be able to realize our long-term goal of providing the virtual machine to our students to use on their personal notebooks since we cannot provide them port security exceptions.
I am still having problems grasping the reason that a contextless lookup (via LDAP, I assume) would misbehave while coming from a NATted connection but a bridged connection works fine on the exact same virtual machine. Shouldn't the communication between the VM and the LDAP server work properly either way??
