Import of 16:9 PAL Clips to iDVD turn into 3:4

16:9 PAL clips are well edited by fce and exported as quicktime movie are played well as 16:9 by finder. But when i import them to iDVD they will be played as 4:3 ><. Some clips failed, some are working well. If i have found a clip which does not turn into 4:3 ,it may not be changed. For example: Changing the audio-level may cause the same result. It changes into 4:3 when played by iDVD.
Who has got same experiences ? Are there possibilities to avoid this ?

  • My iMovie 8.06 won't import PAL clips in MPEG-2/AC3 format.

My iMovie 8.06 won't import PAL clips in MPEG-2/AC3 format. I converted the clip using Toast 11 twice, once to h.264/AAC and once to MPEG-4/AAC, both of which Quicktime Player 10 will play but iMovie refuses to import. Suggestions appreciated. Does iMovie '11 fix this?

    Hi
Yes - iMovie can not use any of them. It needs
    • streamingDV or
    • AIC
Use Toast™ to convert to this
and use this file in iMovie

  • Importing PAL clips into an NTSC project

    Hi guys,
I'm new to FCP... I'm wondering if it's possible to import a PAL clip into an NTSC project and will FCP do the render automatically and transfer it to NTSC?
If not can someone recommend the best way to convert such a clip? I've come across the JES Deinterlacer, but am wondering if there might be something better than that?
    Thanks in advance. Chaim

take a look at graeme nattress' standards converter.

  • Does DVDSPro able to convert PAL clip to NTSC by itself ?

I am in PAL country. I wan't to make an NTSC DVD from a PAL clip.
Do I really need to convert this clip to NTSC before I put it in DVD Studio Pro ? Why ? DVD Studio Pro isn't able to do it by itself ?
iDVD apparently can (it's written in the manual)
    thanks

    PLAN9 (from the outside space??)
    Of course !
DVDSP is not a encoding/conversion tool.
Yes, DVDSP is not Compressor. But, when you want to burn your DVD, it encodes mpeg2 files, doesn't he ? Thus, DVDSP can encode files with the help of Quicktime in the background. So if I make it your way, in some ways I use Quicktime twice in a row. Is it really the best way to do ?
You cannot even import PAL assets in NTSC project.
Did you try it ? I am making it at this moment, and it's works.
In all the discussions, people say "first you have to convert your files to NTSC" and "you can even import PAL files in a NTSC project"
Please help me. I don't understand.

  • Transfer of video clips to iDVD

Is it possible to transfer video clips to iDVD from a DVD disc from a Sony Handycam DVD202E? There is no computer connection with this camcorder so data transfer would have to be directly from the finalized DVD disc. This does not of course show specific video clips but contains the data in a number of VIDEO_TS folders.

You are going to have to rip the MPEG2 files from the DVD to DV then import that into iMovie or FC then export that to iDVD
    Your options are:
Decoding programs like DVxDVD or MPEG Streamclip (this one is free but you need the Apple MPEG Encoder to use it) and Mac the Ripper
Import the video into iMovie/FCE by playing the DVD thru a camcorder with pass thru capabilies or by using an analog converter
Do a search on any of these for more info
    Cheers

  • Creating a PAL dvd in idvd . . .

When making a PAL dvd, I set the prefs for PAL before creating, but do I also need to set the viewing option to PAL ?  Or is leaving that option as NTSC so I can view it on my dvd player before shipping to Europe?  I know most players in Europe can now play both, but this client has an old player.
    thanks

    Hi
NO - it's not so simple
First - Yes You can do as described - But You need to set PAL in the iDVD Project info too.
BUT - iDVD DOES the conversion BAD BAD BADLY !
So if You don't mind sending a jumpy and barely watchable video over to EU - then by all means go on.
But if You want an as good product possibly then.
    • Use iMovie HD6 or FinalCut - as iMovie'08 to 11 can not deliver 100% interlaced SD-Video over to iDVD but discards every second line in the picture
    • Use JED_Deinterlacer to do the 29.97fps to 25fps conversion - as this is free on Internet and does the job in a quality close to professional applications (which have an astronomical cost - and low gain)
If iMovie'08 to 11 is a must then
    - Share as QuickTime .mov (full quality) (still 50% of the picture quality is lost - and to my knowledge THERE ARE NO REAL work around this Failure)
My notes on this - general answer to many
PAL to NTSC or NTSC to PAL
    A. Copying commercial DVDs - No Not possibly at all - Not even legal to discuss.
    B. Home made DVDs (DVDs without copy protection)
    C. Movies from iMovie or FinalCut
    • Save as full quality QuickTime .mov and convert this with JES_Deinterlacer  (free on internet)
    NTSC ---> PAL.
    • Most often not necessary - Most stand alone PAL DVD-players playback NTSC
(if TV is old in BL/W)
    PAL ---> NTSC.
    • If played on Mac - not necessary AT ALL
    • If on NTSC DVD-player - CONVERSION IS NEEDED - nearly no Stand alone NTSC-DVD-players
    playback PAL at all.
To do this You need to convert the PAL DVD to streaming.DV or full quality QuickTime .mov
    • I use Roxio Toast™ to do this (There are no free converter)
    • JES_Deinterlacer  (free on internet) to convert to NTSC
    • Set up an NTSC project (29.97fps or 30) in iDVD and import then burn
    I burn to
    • Verbatim DVD-R
    • Set down burn speed in iDVD to x1 or x4 recommended by many
    • Secure a minimum of 25Gb free space on internal boot hard disk before burning (IMPORTANT)
PAL is 25 fps and an analog TV standard of 625 lines
NTSC is 29.97 fps and 520 lines
NTSC (29.97fps) 520 lines - about 640x480 pixels (square) 720x480 rectangular (narrow) pixels
PAL  (25 fps)   625   lines - about 768x576 pixels (square) 720x576 rectangular (narrow) pixels
to use a photo 702x480 resp 576 then add 9 pixels on each side to add together as 720
If iDVD hangs on PAL or NTSC.
    Bengt W wrote
Deleting iDVD pref. file - should return You into NTSC mode.
Yes iDVD can switch to PAL - BUT as You see with a rather lousy result.
    a. Need to convert to PAL - most often not - Most PAL-player can playback NTSC
and on a fairly new TV in color. (old TV in Bl/W)
(Other way around - from PAL to NTSC most often a must - few NTSC-player can use PAL)
    b. IF MUST - then use JES_Deinterlacer to do this conversion - so much better and free.
My list on this (or rather PAL --> NTSC - just think the other way around)
I have to send it overseas
That too can be a problem. As USA = NTSC = 29.97fps and EU = PAL = 25fps.
DO Not let iMovie or iDVD do this conversion from one to the other - Result will be Very
    BAD
I save the movie as a full quality QuickTime .mov file then I use JES_Deinterlacer to do the conversion - then I cont. in iMovie or iDVD with project set accordingly.
JES_Deinterlacer is free on Internet and there are Pro applications but not that much better and costs are astronomical.
    PAL-DVDs - don't play in US
NTSC-DVDs - usually plays well in EU
All plays well on a Mac - What ever.

Thank you SDMacuser. I dumped all the plist icons with no result, and was getting pretty plist off when it occurred to me to delete all the previous dvd.proj files. Bingo. That did the trick. So thank you for all your help and the additional information you provided.

  • How to sync NTSC and PAL clips to same frame rate for multicam edit

    Hi there,
First time poster so sorry for the newbie question. I'm trying to get 2 standard NTSC clips and 1 standard PAL clip about a hour long each which shot the same event at the same time, to sync up so that I can go to multi-cam and edit them like a movie sequence. I tried that, but they start unsyncing about 10 minutes in. I gather it's because of the different frame rates. I tried using "interpret footage" and changed the PAL 25fps to 29.97fps and everything got sped up. I tried rendering the PAL clip as an NTSC clip but it ended up looking a bit fuzzier. As I want to end up with an NTSC clip in the end, how can I make these clips sync up properly?
Any, tips to help this newbie greatly appreciated with many thanks.

    Hi Jonathan,
It's not always so easy to do NTSC <-> PAL conversions, and it's impossible to do them in Premiere while maintaining any degree of quality.
You can do a good job of this with AviSynth (freeware) but the learning curve may be a bit steep for a newbie. I also hear that ProCoder ($500+) does a good job of this but I've never tried it.
As for the sync, you can chop up your PAL clip within the muticam sequence (leaving some "holes") and match up particular points manually. You'll obviously have to edit around the holes.

This may depend on your chosen encoding options for the Mails (MIME vs. Base64 or similar) and/or the mails being reduced in size and sliced up server side. Apple (and Google) do stuff like recompressing images when viewing mails on mobile devices from an Apple ID or Gmail account... You have to turn it off in their web frontends....

  • Imported Pic Blurs halfway through Clip - How do I fix this?

For some time now I have been able to import a rather long .png clip, generated in Photoshop, as a background for my news and events stories.  I scroll the background bottom to top and new items 'pop' out as I chat about them.  (See http://cdn.traintalk.tv/podcasts/medium/TTTV-023-medium-CP-Empress-2816-Shakedow n-Cruise-Worlds_Longest-Model-Train-News-Events.m4v at the 4:00 minute mark).
Now, when I import the .png file, it goes blurry and out of focus.  I've tried .jpg, tif and .psd, same results.  I've tried adding it to a new video track, adding it in before the 'problem point and adding it in after.  I've recreated the file. I've tried adding it into the browser and directly dropping it into the track form the desktop.  It just goes blurry.  Rendering just proves the point as it remains blurry.
What am I missing here?  The only difference I can think of is that this is a somewhat 'longer' sequence than usual.
I'd appeciate any help anyone can offer as I'm 2 days behind the publication date ;(
    Thanks,
    Neil

Hi David,  Thanks, They are all checked.  I've noticed something further...  When I do a chroma key overlay, The background is in focus, when just the background is showing it blurs.
Similarly, When I have a sequence of photos, if I use a transition - say cross-dislove - during the transition, the photo is in focus, but as soon as the transition is complete, the photo blurs a bit!
    Any Ideas?
    Thanks,

  • I want to use a clip for idvd

I want to use a clip for idvd for the menu so I want only a part of the clip ( in mark & out mark) is there a way to export or creat a copy for capture scratch only the part of the clip I marked?

If you have I/O marked in the viewer or the timeline only that section will get exported.

  • Import a copy of a clip

    Hello everyone,
We are working on Imovie HD since a long time. We lately have used the copies of existing clips (in another edit)
It works for one of us, but not for the other. How come?
That is we copied the needed clips from one film into a specific file, and then we tried to import those clips into a new edit (whether through the "import" function or by "drag and drop").
As I said, one succeeded and the edit is totally ok. But today for the other it is not possible: the timeline works until we close the file. When we reopen it, the timeline only kept the transitions and the titles, while the clips went to the bin.
Does someone can explain that? Many thanks in advance for your help

  • TS2179 import files from final cut express to idvd

Import files from final cut express to idvd. When we are making a dvd in iDVD importing the files (widescreen mov files ) from final cut express they automatically change to 4x3. They look correct when played in the quicktime player. Has anyone had this problem.

Generally, I just drag the DV file from the finder to the iDVD menu window. Make sure you don't drag it to any Drop Zones, I think that might be your problem with the DV file showing up as the background. If you have default settings in iDVD, this drag and drop should then create submenus based on your chapter markers.
I'm not sure if you have any issues with the Chapters not showing up in QT. If you're expecting them to show up, then make sure that when you do the Export to QT that the option to include Chapter Markers is set. Upon conversion, you should see the Chapters within QT as well as when imported into iDVD.
    Hope this helps!

  • Importing iDVD project into iMovie

I want to send a slide show from iDVD into iMovie. The show looks normal in quicktime but when I attempt to drag the .mov file into iMovie I get the message "Error during import. The file could not be imported: Unknown error". The procedure has worked fine in the past but now I've hit a brick wall. Help!

I finally found out why I was unable to import my iDVD file into iMovie. I am a new Mac owner and I had used an illegal punctuation mark in the title of my slide show (China/Japan). I received a useless message - "The file could not be imported: unknown error". Thank you very much. My old PC with Microsoft would have immediately told me to retitle the file and that would have been that. Mac's poor error warning caused me to stop my project for days because they could not even give me a simple reason for the error. My education continues. I love the iLife software but find it to be incredibly difficult because every day I run into unexpected problems. When finished the results are truly beautiful - if you have unlimited time. I am impressed with Apple's help forum.

  • Import doesn't make a clip (iMovie HD, Canon ZR10, macbookpro) Video Newbie

    Hi All
I've never done video before and have a Canon ZR10 and I think iMovie HD (about says 6.0.3 (267.2)).
The problem is that when I import from the camera it doesn't create the clip.
iMovie is able to control the camera fine. The import button works, but no clip shows up.
I also get the same results on a imac with iMove 3.x
    Any ideas?
    Thanks for your time.

    Hello, jsadler,
    Welcome to the discussions.
Are you following these directions for importing from your camcorder?
    +Importing video from your camcorder+
+One of the first steps in creating a movie is copying the video from your camcorder to your computer. This process is called "capturing" or "importing."+
+Note: You can also have iMovie HD import and compose a movie automatically using the Magic iMovie feature.+
+To import video from your camcorder:+
+Turn on your camcorder, and set the camcorder to VTR mode (some camcorders call this Play or VCR).+
+Connect your camcorder to your computer using a FireWire cable. If you need help with this, see Related Topics below or refer to the documentation that came with your camera.+
+In iMovie HD, click the mode switch to set iMovie HD to camera mode (shown above).+
+If you have more than one camcorder, or a camcorder and iSight are connected, choose your camcorder from the pop-up menu that appears when you press the camera icon.+
+Use the capture controls (shown below) to review your tape in the iMovie monitor.+
+Rewind the tape to a few seconds before the point where you want to start importing.+
    +Click Play.+
+When you see the frame where you want to begin importing, click the Import button in the iMovie monitor or press the Space bar.+
+Your imported video appears in the Clips pane or timeline viewer, depending upon how you set your Import preferences. iMovie HD automatically creates a new clip at each scene break (wherever the recording was interrupted as the camera was set to standby). For information on how to turn off this feature, see Related Topics below.+
+Click Import again or press the Space bar when you want to stop importing.+
