Import of Elements 7 catalog from W XP computer to W 7 computer?

I was running Elements 7 under Windows XP. The catalog was stored in a folder in My Documents. The old laptop broke down and now I have a new laptop with Windows 7. I had a copy of the catalog and all the pictures, which I could install on the new laptop. Elements 7 runs well on the new laptop, but the catalog has the wrong addresses of the pictures. Connecting the more than 5000 pictures automatically would take very much time.
Does anybody know an easier way? Thanks for any help!

Using Windows on the Windows 7 computer, move all the photos to the exact same folder name and location that they were in on the Windows XP computer.
(Note: Sometimes the Windows 7 operating system will not allow you to create the exact same directory structure as you had on Windows XP, there are some threads here about this)

What is best way to copy the entire LR-3 catalog from an "old" computer to a "new" computer?

I just purchased a new desktop computer and installed LR-3 ver 3.6 on it. I would now like to transfer/copy everything (including negatives) in the LR-3 catalog of my old computer to the new computer. What is the best step-by-step procedure to do so? Should I copy to an external hard drive first and then import to new computer? I have saved a copy of every photo imported to the old computer in an external hard drive but I am not sure if I should use these files or rather export the entire catalog from the old computer to an external hard drive by starting in the library, highlight "All Photographs" under catalog, and then proceed under "file tab, export as catalog". Then import the catalog to the new computer. Any advice?

100% agree! Export as Catalog. I just did those from Mac to PC and it worked with flawlessly. The only suggestion that I would add would be to divide your catalog into smaller subsections. I had a few thousand images and at times it looked like it was hung. It was difficult to determine if LR was actually doing something. I suspect it would be easier to tell if the catalog it was importing was smaller.

Possible to import Photoshop Elements 8 Catalog into Lightroom?

Is it possibel to import a catalog from Photoshop Elements 8 into the latest version of Lightroom? I've kind of outgrown some of Element's functionality and I'd like to take Lightroom for a spin. However, it would be useless if it won't import my complex set of albums, tags, etc.

Lightroom 2 cannot convert PSE8 catalogs. (Maybe Lightroom 3 will do so, but no one really knows...)
You can do a partial import. Using psedbtool, write your metadata to the photo files, then import the individual photos into Lightroom 2. You will lose collection membership, stacks, version sets, creations and a few other things.

If you are installing Elements 11 on the same machine , install Elements 11 and just convert your catalog from catalog manager.
else if you want to move the content make the Backup from one system and restore it on new machine file >> backup catalog and restore catalog.

Hi, I have shot few pictures on 31st December night in RAW mode using Nikon D800 and Sandisk extreme plus 32GB SDHC card. It looks like card got some memory errors so not able to transfer the files from Card to computer. However I am able to view the pics thru Lightroom ver 4.4 Library, but when I tried to import them, it gives me an error stating that file can't be read.
Is there a way to save the pics from Library window in lightroom overcoming the card read errors ?

Thank you for your response. Here is the error message I am receiving, I tried with various destination folders in the computer but it still gives the same error:. Just to let you know, I am able to import pictures into these folders from other memory cards.

I just did this so I hope I can remember. I have a MAC so I went into my MAC hard drive and then library > application support > adobe > photoshop elements > 10 > creations > effects. I selected all of my files and copied them. I then went back to photoshop elements > 12 > creations and pasted the files into effects. I then restarted PSE and all of my files were there!

Please give me exact steps to resolve the issue.

A catalog backup created by the organizer is a folder containing many files and sub-directories. It contains everything to restore both your 'catalog' and your media files.
Those files are mainly renamed version of each media files (also of the xmp sidecar files which contain metadata changes), but two files are very important:
- the catalog.buc is a renamed copy of the sqlite database : catalog.pse12db. You could rename it back to recover the database, but normally only the restore process uses it.
- the backup.tly file contains everything necessary to re-create your folder tree and rename your media files to their original names. It's the important file the backup process searches for before starting the restore. Note that when you start the backup process and browse to the catalog backup location, you may not see the backup.tly file immediately, but only after a few seconds. As soon as that file is displayed in the dialog, your can start the restore.

Unable to import PS Elements 5 catalog

PSE-5 catalog does not appear in the import catalog dialog box. It only has "Choose custom" as an option.
Any ideas?

Yes, that is the problem. Lightroom does not support psb. It only really supports tiff and psd outside of the raw, jpg, and png formats. Even with tiff and psd, it will not work if your files are more than 65000 pixels on a side, or when the entire file is more than 512 MP.

How can I transfer my Elements 6 catalog to a new computer?

Will I have to purchase an external hard drive? I saved the back.tly file to a memory stick BUT Element 13 said it was not a supporedt file when I tried to import it. It will take 39 CD's to manually back up. Am I missing something? I really only want the current catalog, as I have deleted unwanted photos from there and now made sure ALL were tagged with keywords.

I tried the import software (trial version) and it was fine but I didn't want to pay for software. You can authorize up to 5 computers in the house to access your iTunes music and other iTunes purchases. Open iTunes, you can go under Store and select Authoize this computer.

How do I reinstall Lightroom and safely import library and preview data from an older computer?

Since buying a new MacBook Pro back in February 2014, I have had non-stop issues using Lightroom. This is particularly frustrating considering I bought a new laptop specifically to improve my experience with Lightroom. The experience thus far has been anything but. The program freezes every time I try and 'right click' on an item, which means I have no way of reconnecting files or folders that are on external hard drives. It also crashes regularly when I try and open the program. I believe this may have something to do with how I moved files over from one computer to another. I have a growing suspicion that my libraries are corrupt.
It's now been 6 months, and I've uploaded quite a few new folders since then. However, I am ready to give all the last 6 months work away and start with a 2013 backup to ensure Lightroom runs smoothly. I've moved all current library information onto an external hard drive, and deleted the folder from my laptop. I've also tried to delete and reinstall Lightroom, but the program immediately crashes when I try to start it up again.
All this is to say I need some serious help getting Lightroom back up and running on my laptop, pulling in old data from my other laptop properly and bringing Lightroom back up to life on my new laptop. Any assistance or hand holding would be immeasurably appreciated.

How did I lose Elements 5.0 from my PC computer?

I had been using it for some years happily and successfully and one day I tried to bring it up using a shortcut and got the message "Attempt to access invalid address".
I tried several times, and then went through downloading the program from the original disk which I have in its original box. The download process seemed to work fine (it took what seemed like about the same length of time as when I first downloade it, but the program is nowhere to be found.
I figure it's some simple process that went astray, and that the program is on the computer, but I am not skilled enough to find it.
I will be grateful t whoever can help me find a program that I don't use a lot, but whenever I do, I am very pleased with the results.
