Import of .raw files in Aperture 3.2

Hi, I recently bought a used Lumix DMC-FZ18 that support raw-format. I did some test photos today but have trouble imoprting them.
When inserting the memorycard in my iMac with OS 10.7.2 all seems ok. I reply to the "import questions" and when imported I can see
the photos at the bottom in the split mode view. Aperture then ask if I would detete the pictures on the memory which I say "no" to.
Then the screen say "Unsupported Image format" and I can no see any picture nor edit them.
Am I doing some thing wrong or what ?
Thank you ALL for your kind support  / Ingvar in Sweden

Could be because 3.2 does not seem to support some older configerations of hardware from Intel core duo backwards. Looking at your list of hardware - that could be the issue. Is your machine more than five years old? If so you need to go back to to 3.1.. and restore the library back as well!

  • Aperture imports, and RAW files...

After I import raw photos into Aperture when I first click on the photo and it opens in full screen, it looks brighter/best and then a second later the photo darkens colors change just a little, almost like I have an import preset assigned and it only happens when I import raw photos not JPEG's. Can someone tell me how I can make sure that I don't have some kind of preset happening, I would like to have the photo's stay the same as when i first import?

You don;t have a preset set. What you are seeing is normal behavior when importing Raw files.
What you see at first is the camera produced JPG preview imbedded in the Raw file. Aperture puts this up while it decodes the actual Raw data. This JPG has all the special settings and enhancements set on the camera and is basically the image that would be produced if you were shooting JPG.
As a rule none of the settings on the camera (apart from the basics) are applied to the Raw file though some of the newer cameras have settings that could affect the data stored in the Raw file.
This is a often asked question by those just getting into Raw and you can search the discussions here for other answers to this question.
Given the capability of today's cameras, especially the high-end ones, a lot of users have decided to abandon Raw as unnecessary  if they are happy with the images the camera produces. It's all a matter of personal needs.

  • Aperture import of RAW files

Why does Aperture suddenly not allow me to import RAW files?
The message I get is that a specific amount of space is required
to import these images, I'm certain that I have the space available
on my computer for the import to occur. Please help...
    Thank you,
    Mike

What OS and Aperture version are you using? Did you check you amount of disk space available? Can you create a new library and import 1 RAW file?

  • Adding RAW files to Aperture when JPEG exists

    Here's my situation:
I recently bought Aperture and loaded my existing iPhoto library into it.  This library only includes JPEG files.  I have been shooting RAW+JPEG with a newer camera so I have an entire set of RAW files in a separate folder on my computer (which I never added to my iPhoto library).  I want to now load these RAW files into Aperture -- will they correctly pair up with the corresponding JPEG's?  What are the steps I need to take to ensure that they somehow pair with the existing JPEGs and I don't end up with duplicate RAW+JPEG files in different areas of my Aperture library?  I would also like the RAWs to become the master over the JPEGs.

Read this page of the manual:
    http://documentation.apple.com/en/aperture/usermanual/index.html#chapter=4%26sec tion=6%26hash=apple_ref:doc:uid:Aperture-UserManual-91292IMP-SW5
To import the RAW files that match the JPEG files in your Aperture library
Choose “Matching RAW files” from the Import pop-up menu. The Include pop-up menu appears below the Import pop-up menu.
    Do one of the following:
To import all matching RAW files regardless of rating: Choose “All matching files” from the Include pop-up menu.
To import all RAW files matching JPEG files that are unrated or better: Choose “Unrated or better” from the Include pop-up menu.
To import all RAW files that match the current rating: Choose “Current filter” from the Include pop-up menu.

  • How do I open a photo in CS3 as a RAW file from Aperture

How do I open a photo from the Aperture library in Photoshop CS3 so it opens in the RAW converter first, as it would if I opened it from bridge? I can only see options for TIFF and PSD.
    Thanks and regards,
    Craig

You could import your RAW-files as referenced images into aperture. This way your Raw-files would live in a folder structure on one or more harddrives. Third party applications like Photoshop would have access to your files too. You could implement a DAM strategy like Peter Krogh´s (http://www.peterkrogh.com/).
Disadvantage: you would be responsible for a thorough organisation of your files (raws and derivatives).

  • How can I process raw files in Aperture from a Sony RX1?

How can I process raw files in Aperture from my Sony RX1?

Here is a list of supported cameras
    <http://www.apple.com/aperture/specs/raw.html>
Your Sony RX1 is not listed. Your best bet would be to use the software, that came with your camera to convert the raw files to tiff and to import the tiff to Aperture. Or to shoot raw+jpeg and to import the pairs and to work with the jpeg versions as original master files, until Aperture supports your camera.

  • Importing Photoshop RAW images into Aperture

When I import Photoshop RAW images that I have made adjustments to, into my Aperture library, they show up as the original RAW files and not with my adjustments. Is there a way to get the RAW adjustments imported as well.
The only reason I need to import them into Aperture is to post them in a web gallery. Or is there a way to create a ME web gallery directly from Photoshop files? How about creating a ME web gallery directly from Lightroom? Anybody have a clue?)
(Btw, in attemtpting to research this topic, I find I am totally unable to do a search of the discussions. Even with a search word like "Aperture", I get no messages. Not matter what search word I enter I get no messages found. ???)
    Thanks!
    Jim

    Thanks for the reply Allen.
I am saving them all as TIFFS now. I was just trying to avoid that time-consuming step. I do not really need them as TIFFS right now. It is to show edited RAW files to a client. Later, when selections are made, I would save that much smaller number of images as TIFFS. But it seems that there is no other way to import the RAW files with the edits into Aperture.
I used to create all of my web albums for clients in PS. But once I got a .mac account, I love and prefer the look of the .mac web galleries. But of course that necessitated importing all my PS files into either iPhoto (not an option) or Aperture. But can these PS web galleries be exported to a .mac web gallery?
    Thanks!

  • Import fuji raw files

Is there any way for Aperture 3 to import Fuji RAW files?  Lightroom does.

X1 Pro - RAW not yet supported.  Understand it takes a little while as it's a new sensor type but Lightroom has caught up now and Aperture is supposed to be a serious photographers' tool; just as the Mac has always been a serious photographer's computer.
    Come on Apple....!

  • Raw files in aperture photo books

    Hi,
I'm creating my first aperture photo book. I uploaded raw files to aperture, made adjustments, and then placed the versions into the book. It is these versions (with all crops, adjustments, etc.) that will show up in my photo book, correct? (That's what it looks like when I preview the book, but I just want to make sure I didn't need to convert them to jpeg or anything before I spend over $100 on this book!)
    Thanks!

When you create a version in Aperture it automatically creates a jpeg, so you don't have to do anything else. It is all automatic.

  • Importing cr2 raw files won't work on ios 6 when it worked fine on ios5. Anyone have a solution?

I have  been importing cr2 raw files to my iPad using ios 5 but importing cr2 raw files won't work on ios 6. Sees files in camera but when import stops it fails with an exclamation mark in red circle. Anyone have a solution?

Don't know if you care anymore or it applies, but I was able to get things working but it took drastic measures.
I had to do a full system reset and update by doing the following:
    - Make note of all your settings in your system and apps especially accounts and forget about in app data that's only on your iPad and not in a cloud service because it will be gone after this
    - Connect iPad to Mac and startup iTunes
    - Hold down Home and Power buttons simultaneously for about 8 sec until the screen turns black
    - Release the Power button but continue holding the Home button until there's a popup on your screen which indicates it's in recovery mode
    - Follow the instructions to recover your iPad but recover it to factory state, not recover from a backup
    - Reinstall all your apps and content
    - Reconnect to all your services on your system and apps
I could not restore from a backup since it brought back my bad data too.  It also didn't restore my music and no matter what I tried it wouldn't put my music onto my iPad.  Had to start clean.
It appears over time that the system gets dirty and there's lots of bad data that can't get resolved.  This is especially true if some of your apps have crashed a bunch.

  • How to import only RAW files from camera?

I also shoot with both RAW and JPEG, such that I have access to JPEGs to share with people immediately before post-processing.  But I only want to use RAW in my Lightroom flow.
When pictures are already in Lightroom, I use filters in the library view to show only RAW, or only JPEG, or both (by applying a filter on the file extension).
But how do I set a filter before importing?  I would like to import only the RAW pictures into lightroom, but I don't see a way of doing that using Lightroom's import from camera card features.  I either have to let lightroom  import all, and then remove the JPEGs, or use Windows explorer to copy over just RAW files and then use Lightroom to import.
I would like to use Lightroom in just one step to import all RAW files (but only RAW files) from the camera card directly to the library.  A file filter in the import dialog seems like an easy feature to implement.

Another reason to have a filter in import is then you can then apply a preset to the RAW files only. At present if I want to apply a preset to my RAW files on import I have to apply it to the JPEGs too as there is no way of being selective on import. I then have to remove the preset from the JPEGs, which is a pointless and unnecessary task, whilst LR is busy rendering the unwanted look.
I shoot both file types on one cameras as the JPEG gives me a look that is very hard to replicate with the RAW files and on another camera I use a picture style to remind me of what I was looking for when shooting. Again as it's a custom style it's very hard to replicate the look in LR from the RAW file.
Though a major reason I shoot both JPEGs + RAW is that I was asked by a client a few years back, when I only shot RAW for all the shots as JPEGs to select down from. As this was a 4 week feature film shoot it took several days constant rendering out of Photoshop to output the JPEGs. This was just before LR and even then, LR would still take considerable time to produce all those exported files, though a lot quicker than PS I would hope. So now I always shoot JPEGs as well so I never have to waste time outputting JPEGs for a client to do a rough select.

  • Can I update elements 11 to import olympus RAW files from my new OM-D M5 mk 2?

I have bought a new Olympus OMD E-M mark 2. Great, but my copy of Elements 11 won't import its RAW files. I have tried to instal RAW 6.4.1 and RAW 7.1 patches but the installer just says it's the wrong version even though I downloaded from a Elements page. I've just re-installed the Application Manager and that didn't help. Please can you help me find the right patch and get it working?
    Thanks

No you can't update PSE11. But it is possible to download and install the free DNG converter to convert your raw files to the Adobe universal Raw format and the files will open in all versions of PSE (keep your originals as backups and for use in the camera manufactures software)
Windows download (.exe file) click here DNG Converter 8.8
Mac download (.dmg file) click here DNG Converter 8.8
You can convert a whole folder of raw images in one click. See this quick video tutorial:

  • Problem importing NEF raw files in PSE 11

In the past week I have become unable to import Nikon raw files (NEF format) into PSE 11 editor.  I seem to have the latest version of  PSE 11 and the latest camera raw plug-in (7.4).  All was working fine.  I now get an error message "unable to use the camera raw plu-in.  It is not compatible with this version of Photoshop Elements".
    Can anyone please help?
    Many thanks.

Did you update via the Help> Updates menu option or by some other means?
Search your computer to make sure you only have the one copy of 'Camera RAW.8bi'. On my windows 7 64-bit it  is at C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\Elements 11\File Formats\Camera Raw.8bi and is 24,719,736 bytes.
Are these NEF files from a newer Nikon camera? If so which one? Each camera has it's own NEF format (although the error message you get does not suggest this would be the problem)?

You need LR 4.4 or DNGC 7.4 or newer for the T5i:

It is mislabeled as T51 on Adobe’s page.
