Import old FC Pro project into current project library

I have some old projects in a folder and I'd like to import them into my current library but FC won't let me. Says I have to open the project in Final Cut, buit I can't even do that.
Help?

How old is old? Are they created by versions earlier than FCP X?
If so you will need to purchase 7toX, which is available in the App Store…$10 I believe…and it works.

How do you import final cut pro projects into imovie?
(like you create a project in final cut but i want to save it, and import it into imovie..

    Hi -
Mr. Ross is right, there is no direct way to export your project with all it's elements into iMovie.
If, on the other hand, you have a completed sequence in FCP that you want to export as a finished element, then import into iMovie for you to re-edit or apply titles, music, etc. you would:
    In FCP:
Click on the Sequence Icon you want to export in your browser.
Go to the menu File > Export > Quicktime Movie. Give your movie a name a navigate to where you want it stored. Make sure you choose Settings: Current Settings and have the Make Movie Self Contained checked. Click Save.
    Close FCP and open iMovie.
    In iMovie:
Go to the menu File > Import > Movies and navigate to the movie you just exported from FCP. Choose if you want your movie imported in it's original size, etc.
Click Import. Your movie will be imported into iMovie.
Note that using this method only gives you only the elements that made up your FCP sequence, so this may not give you the flexibility you need.
    Hope this helps.

  • Arbitrary data param not importing from Premiere Pro project into After Effects.

    Hi,
I have an AE SDK plugin effect that works in Premiere Pro and After Effects... the effect has a bunch of standard parameters and one Arbitrary Data parameter.
I believe that the Arbitrary data parameter is implemented correctly, and I have implemented all of the cases for PF_Cmd_ARBITRARY_CALLBACK...
    PF_Arbitrary_NEW_FUNC
    PF_Arbitrary_DISPOSE_FUNC
    PF_Arbitrary_COPY_FUNC
    PF_Arbitrary_FLAT_SIZE_FUNC
    PF_Arbitrary_FLAT_SIZE_FUNC
    PF_Arbitrary_FLATTEN_FUNC
    PF_Arbitrary_UNFLATTEN_FUNC
    PF_Arbitrary_INTERP_FUNC
    PF_Arbitrary_COMPARE_FUNC
    PF_Arbitrary_PRINT_SIZE_FUNC
    PF_Arbitrary_PRINT_FUNC
    PF_Arbitrary_SCAN_FUNC
The only issue I have found, is that when importing a Premiere Pro project into After Effects with the "Import -> Adobe Premiere Pro Project" option, the value in the Arbitrary Data
parameter is always the default. There is no problem saving or re-opening projects within AE or PP... and there are no problems with cutting and pasting instances of the effect.
Importing a Premiere Pro project into After Effects using the Dynamic Link works correctly... the Arbitrary data is imported.
    Thanks.

Some kind of answer would be awesome... there are Adobe staff members on here right?

  • Importing a Premiere Pro Project file in AE

    Hi,
I've just finish editing a long feature with Premiere Pro that I've broken down into 10 project files to allow Premiere not to have the memory crash.
Now I'd like to import in AE the project file to be able to do image stabilization on different shot and sky replacement.
    My questions are:
    a) If I import the project files, can I make modifications in AE (like color correction, stabilization, sky replacement,...) then save the project so that it can still be opened in Premiere
    b) Can I recombined my whole feature into one project in AE or the memory won't handle it as Premiere's memory didn't ?
    Thank you.

You can save a Premiere Pro project from After Effects. See
"Export an After Effects project to Adobe Premiere Pro".
Note that there are several other ways of moving data between After Effects and Premiere Pro, including copy & paste and Dynamic Link. See
"Working with Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects".
    > Can I recombined my whole feature into one project in AE

The size of the project doesn't tend to be a problem for After Effects. (Frame size, occasionally; image buffer size, occasionally; but not project size.)

  • Importing Final Cut Pro Projects

I know this might be a very silly question but -- when watching the tutorial for DVD Studio pro5, they imported a Motion Project that had not been rendered, it in turn got rendered when burning it to DVD. Is this possible with Final Cut Pro Projects?? Can I take a project or sequence and import it into DVD Studio without rendering or exporting it??
In other words can DVD Studio use the Final Cut Pro Project just as a reference as it does with Motion or does it need to be one file??
Anyone out there who can help me please?? Thank-you

You cannot import FCP project. Just mov files, or m2v files. I believe only Motion works as you said.

  • Importing a Premiere Pro Sequence into After Effects Crashes After Effects

    Hello,
I'm on a Quad Core Mac, 2.8GHZ with 6GB of Ram.
I have a Premeire Pro project with varying MOV and MP4 files; from a DSLR and from a Sony EX-1 camera.  This project has lots of media, over 3 TBs, and each and every time I try to import it into After Effects-After Effects crashes and does not respond.
    Please help.
    Thanks

Don't try and do a whole movie in AE. After Effects is for making shots or short sequences. Break up the projects. Organize. 3TB of source materials into AE's Project folder means linking, analyzing, interpreting, and generating previews for enough material to shoot a feature film. Bring in the shots you're working on, not the entire movie. If you need to do an entire movie, break that up to Scenes and make each scene a separate project.
Terabytes of data would also choke Final Cut Pro, Premiere Pro, Avid, or any other NLE if it was dumped in all at once. The only reason that a NLE can handle that much data is that there were some caches created when the footage was imported.

  • How do I import a Premiere Pro file into After Effects

So I'm an editor, I cut trailers and TV spots. I enjoy making my title cards on After Effects because it gives me a lot of options but I'm having difficulty. How do I import / edit a Premiere Pro file into After Effects? I imported the project file but the whole thing was a mess and nothing made sense. Can anyone explain this process to me?
By the way I used CS5.5 versions of the software.

It actually works better if you go the other way... link an AE comp into your Premiere project.
Create and link to After Effects compositions with Dynamic Link

  • How do I import a movie clip photo into my iPhoto library and then alter it

I want to add some single frames from i-movie into my iPhoto library, but they transfer in QuickTime format and I can't crop or otherwise alter them. How can I convert them from QuickTime into JPEG or other form?

The originals are in iMovie and I have moved them onto the desktop. But when I import them into iPhoto from there, they are in QuickTime format and I cannot change that into a useable form. That is the problem. I want to crop and otherwise change them and nothing works.

  • Importing finished Premier Pro Project into Encore

I have completed about 4-5 projects in encore since loading my software CS4.  I am very new to this game.  When I go to dynamic link to get my project into encore to get it to a DVD it goes just fine and then it freezes at 50% when importing the timeline into encore.  Is there a simple fix for this.  My pjogect is 1 hr and 40 min long if that matters.  Any help anyone can offer would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

I'm having the same issue. Adobe Dynamic Link does NOT work in Creative Cloud. And I cannot figure out a work around. I'm trying to have text fade in after a video into, then have that text become a button. I'm beginning to think it isn't possible...

  • I can't import final cut pro projects into FCPX after updating.

I've come back to my computer after the holidays with the newest update of FCPX and now my library and media have disapeared out of the app. I can't seem to import the project files into the program either.
    Any assistance would be appriciated.

You need to update your projects and events in the File menu.

  • Import Final Cut Pro Project?

    Hi there,
I work in Final Cut Pro and need to hand off a project to a colleague who only has and works with Final Cut Express. Will it be possible for him to import my FCP file and edit it in Final Cut Express? Any creative workarounds? If not, I will need to buy FCE and just do the whole project that way (though would rather not).
    Thanks!

Almost no FCP project will open in FCE, certainly no v7 project. Version numbers are very important here. Depending on the content you might be able to do an XML v4 export of a sequence, and a sequence only, and import that into the current version of FCE. You cannot XML an entire project, and whether it will work is entirely dependent on the sequence specifications and content.

  • How to import DVD Studio Pro Menu into Motion?

I would like to change the colors of one of the templates in DVD Studio Pro. In particular the .psd menu file. Is there a way to import the .psd file into Motion and change the color. Or maybe there is an easier way of doing this. Any help would be appreciated.

Yes you can. You can import a Motion project file directly into DVD Studio Pro, though when I tried it took a loooooong time (depends on the size and complexity of the project of course). Here's a tutorial on how to do that:
    http://www.wonderhowto.com/how-to-use-dvd-studio-pro-4-with-motion-53426/
OR... you can just export your Motion project and import it into DVD SP as a Quicktime file, and put that in the Menu section. Then you can add your buttons and so forth and proceed from there.
I hope this helps. Good luck!

  • Can I import old itunes 10 backup into iTunes 11 to set up iPhone5?

I have a problem.  I just bought an iPhone 5.  My iphone 4 (that was traded in) was backed up on iTunes 10.  The computer that the phone was backed up on sustained water damage and won't turn on, however, the hard drive still works.  I have the hard drive in a external enclosure and am able to see it in Finder on my wife's MBP.  I want to setup my new iPhone 5, but the functional computer with iTunes 11 does not have the information as it was only on the damaged computer.  Is there a way to import the old iPhone data into iTunes 11 to set up my phone?
    Thanks,
    JR

You will need a third-party utility such as Phone to Mac

  • Importing Premiere Pro project into After Effects ???

When I import a Premiere Pro project into After Effects, it splits every shot onto a new track, ending up with a couple of hundred tracks at the end.
Is there a way to avoid this ?
Particularly, since I'd want to keep the option of bringing the project file back in Premiere for further editing.
My colorist suggested that I nest reels of my timeline and split it that way so that when he imports it he has nests on one timeline and the multiple tracks in each of those nests. Still, this feel very clunky.

An editor at work was using our Avid to do a grade on a short promo and I
wanted to see what I could do in After Effects. So when he was out of the
office I exported the timeline as an AAF and copied the OMFI media. When I
brought the project into After Effects I ended up with a massive number of
layers and freaked at first at the idea of doing anything with it.
However I thought about it again and decided to precompose all the layers,
as this gave me just one layer to work with. I then added a couple of
Adjustment Layers above it; one with a Levels effect added and the other
with HSL. I also added Masks to the Adjustment Layers so I could vignette
    any effect.
The key to working like this was to use Hold Keyframes at the beginning of
each new shot for each effect, Mask Shape and Feather. I could then adjust
that shot, scrub to the next shot add new Hold Keyframes adjust that shot
and so on. When I wanted to repeat any effect settings on a shot, I just cut
and pasted the relevant keyframes. Mixes across shots can be tricky but you
can always go back to work with the original shots on their separate layers
    if you need to.
I ended up with a quick grade that stood up nicely against the one done on
the Avid and I only had work with 3 layers on my timeline!

  • Old DV .avi projects exported from Premiere 6.5, hang in CS4.

    Hi
Im new to CS3. I finished some Mini-DV PAL 4:3 projects ages ago using Premiere 6.5, exporting the finished timeline directly from 6.5 as .avi files. I would have used whatever the default export CODEC in 6.5 was.
My Premiere 6.5, the machine used, and the project files have long gone.
When I play these .avis in Window media player, Nero, Media centre, etc they are fine.
But when imported into a CS4 project they behave strangely. The timeline progresses normally, the timecod advances, the audio plays, but the video hangs and stutters, sometimes as a frame hold, sometimes skipping, sometimes producing green video noise. This appears to occur mainly where there are titles and opacity changes.
All I want to do is add a few beginning and end transitions and some chapter points, send to Encore, then burn to DVD.
Im sure I have set the correct project parameters: DV PAL, SD, 720x576i.
Raw capture files of the same vintage play fine.
My machine is fast enough: 2.4GHz Quad core, Win XP SP3, 3.25GB RAM (out of 4GB). It runs AVCHD from my current camera faultlessly.
If anyone knows what is going on here it would be greatly appreciated!!
Below are the properties of one of the files, directly from CS4:
    File Path: G:\Video\Sweden.avi
    Type: AVI Movie
    File Size: 3.7 GB
    Image Size: 720 x 576
    Pixel Depth: 32
    Frame Rate: 25.00
Source Audio Format: 48000 Hz - 16 bit - Stereo
Project Audio Format: 48000 Hz - 32 bit floating point - Stereo
    Total Duration: 00:17:37:08
Average Data Rate: 3.6 MB / second
    Pixel Aspect Ratio: 1.094
    AVI File details:
    Contains 1 video track(s) and 1 audio track(s).
    Interleave: 1 : 12.00
    Video track 1:
Size is 3.54G bytes (average frame = 148.12K bytes)
    There are 26433 keyframes.
    Frame rate is 25.00 fps
    Frame size is 720 x 576
    Depth is 24 bits.
    Audio track 1:
    Size is 193.60M bytes
    Rate is 48000 samples/sec
    Sample size is 16 bits

It is quite common to find that Windows CODECs used by the clip window will play OK, but then the same clip will not play off the timeline. This is because on the timeline the output goes through Premiere's rendering engine rather than Windows and this is less forgiving due to editing requirements.
I am able to import old DV500 output files into PPro CS4 without any problems.
I would still suspect something to do with installed CODECs versus your 32-bit DV file. DV is normally 24-bit and doesn't include an alpha channel (the final 8 bits of 32).
You might be able to eliminate the extra 8 bits using AVIsynth (free download) if you can't fix it another way.
