Import or develop preset?

Hello - using Lr3.2.
If I view a photo in Develop - is there a preset I can apply to automatically do particular edits, like Clarity 12 / Vibrance 10 / Saturation 8, and certain NR & sharpening?
I see presets for tihis and that but have not applied them successfully.
Thanks for your help!
Also - just a quick thank-you to the experienced selfless contributors on this forum.  You helped me many a time.

You can create your own presets, apply them in Develop or use them upon Import.

  • The "My Mixology" is not Showing up in my Import or Develop Presets of LR3

The "My Mixology" is not Showing up in my import or develop Presets of LR3. Do I have to download this?
    Thanks for your assistance.

    Hello dj_paige.
    Thanks for the reply.
Here is a YouTube video which shows the presets in LR3, which is what I have.  At the 1:50 mark you will see in the develop module where he clicks on the Lightroom Presets drop down.  In a "LR4" Youtube video which I viewed (I can't find the dern thing!) a group called "My Mixology" was shown under which their were some other presets.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VOdC561kt5I
I am unsure if My Mixology is available only in LR4 or if I can import these or what.  I have looked googled for the answer but have been unable to locate it.
    Thanks again for your assistance.

  • Import using develop presets won't work!

    Hi all,
I just upgraded from LR2 to LR3. A lot to hate in this new version. But I suppose one needs to adjust and no doubt I will, but there is one thing that is about to drive me up the wall. Something I haven't been able to fix, so here I am, looking for a bit of help.
    Here's the problem:
Because I don't like Lightroom's Sharpening & Noise Reduction settings, I used a preset in LR2 that I applied automatically when importing my images into LR. Now, with Lightroom 3 this just won't work properly and I get exclamation marks, indicating those images are not in the 2010 develop environment. I realised I was using my old presets, created in LR2, so that made sense. So I first deleted all my old presets and to make sure, I also deleted my metadata preset that I also apply on import. I couldn't find a way to delete those presets from within Lightroom by the way. So I just went to the library and trashed them manually...
    Next:
I open LR3. Now I have no user presets anymore, of any kind. I then import the first image of today's shoot. In the develop module I make sure that I'm working in the 2010 process environment. I set Sharpening and Noise Reduction to what I want them to be and make them a preset. Then I made another preset for my metadata. But after importing the rest of today's shoot with the presets I have just created, it will not accept the 2010 settings and I get the exclamation mark with every image. I have checked that the culprit is not the metadata file. If I use only that to import an image and leave the Develop Settings on None, all is well, and the image is regarded as being in the 2010 process state. If I then *manually* apply my earlier created Noise Reduction/Sharpening preset, it accepts it and all is well. But as soon as I try to apply that same preset again when importing my images, then, when I go to the develop module, the image is suddenly in the 2003 environment again and I get the exclamation marks. I have tried everything I can think of but I cannot escape it any longer: I have been defeated by Lightroom 3. What on earth am I doing wrong here? Anybody?

Yes, I get the same thing with the sliders being greyed out. Funny thing is that the sliders *are* set exactly as in my preset and when I click 'yes update' to 2010 standards, the settings don't change but only the sliders become accessible. The thing is that I really don't want to be doing that with every import, even if you can do the whole batch at once. What I don't understand is that when I import with the preset turned off and apply it in Lightroom's Develop Module, it accepts it without a problem but that when I use the same preset on import, it won't work properly.
Now what the poster in the other thread said was:
"When I saved a new preset and selected to also save the process version,  a line in the preset was created:  ProcessVersion = "5.7".  When I cut  and paste that into all my other presets then the sliders were all  active when I used them."
I have no idea what he is talking about or how one would do that. When I create a preset I simply click the + sign and in the pop up window select what I want, give it a name and that's it.
Edit: Sorry, I apparently overlooked the Process Version box in the preset panel! Must have been a case of not seeing the forest for the trees. Problem solved. Thanks.

  • Doubled list of Develop Presets in Import dialog?

Hi all, I'm running a week-old trial copy of LR3.3 on Windows, and I seem to have a doubled set of Develop Presets in the Import dialog's 'Apply During Import' dropdown menu. However, I just get the single list in the Presets panel of the Develop module.
More specifically, in the Import dropdown menu, I get:
An alphabetical listing of all built-in presets (with no user presets), followed by another alphabetical listing of all built-in presets, this time with the user presets.
So for example, if there are 20 built-in presets and 1 user preset, my Import dialog dropdown has 41 lines.
    Any suggestions?

No, factory presets are embedded inside Lightroom and cannot be removed.
Well, actually, they can, but this is undocumented and you'll have to do it after each update.

  • Develop Preset for Import in LR4.2 (iMac 10.8.2)

Can any please tell me how to set up a preset on the Import page (there are some there now) that I can use when I import my photos into LR. I am tired of going to Lens Correction in the Develop mod to put the nikon lens in that I used for the shoot. It is always turned off and I would like to have it activated when I import my shots. I know that while in the Develop mod, I can change it for one photo and then use "sync" to have it address all the other photos.  But then it is a pain in the butt. There must be a way of doing it on import and that is the reason I am asking for your help. Either that or else have it recognize the lens that I used automatically.
Thanks for taking the time to respond.

    Hi Tunney,
I would second JimHess: of course you could employ a develop preset during Import, but then all images would be labelled as having develop adjustments. And you do not see where you have invested develop work already.
I consider the Adobe defaults just as a starting suggestion, which may or may not apply to my taste per camera.
So I would rather tweak the default develop settings: just make sure that you include only stuff that virtually applies to ALL of your images.
I, too, have included automatic lens correction and defringe edges.
First decide in your catalog settings if you want the develop defaults specific per camera type or serial number or even ISO ( a nightmare if you ever use auto-ISO).
Then select a sample image, goto develop module and set only the stuff that should apply to all imported images. Then save them as new default settings.
You do nit change anything during import then.
If you hit the Reset button it will always revert to these defaults.

  • Can LR do develop presets  on import based on a particular lens

Wonering if you an configure LR to used develop preset based on particular lens used when importing?
    Thanks All

    Lee and Rob,
Thank you both for your responses.
Rob, thank you sir... I appreciate greatly some possible solutions to implement.  The CollectionPreseter sounds very interesting.  I am relatively new to Light Room 3 (working through Kelby's book at the moment tryng to learn), so please excuse any lightly thought out questions.
You mentioned the idea of setting up multiple collections where each would have its own preset.  So lets talk about a possible workflow scenario in order to help me understand whether I comprehend the functionality of what this plugin could do.
Lets say I have 3 Collections with each having one preset assigned.
    Is it possible ->
    Workflow A
That after I import photos and then assign into Collection 1, CollectionPreseter will assign the defined preset on Collection 1.
Once applied, does the ability exist to then move the pictures from Collection 1 into Collection 2 (while keeping Collection 1 preset) to apply it's preset and then lastly Moving the pictures from Collection 2 (while keeping Preset 1 and 2) into Collection 3 to apply its preset? with Final Export.
    OR
    Workflow B
Would the flow have to be something like this based on above:
Import and place into Collection 1 (preset 1 is applied).  Export and Save
Reimport and place into Collection 2 (preset 2 is applied). Export and Save.
Reimport and place into Collection 3 (preset 3 is applied). Export and Save Final.?
The other that I have not raised is what about droplets (actions) with Photoshop CS?  Are multiple droplets able to be applied and ran in a batch if I integrated with CS that way?
    Thank you...

  • Import and storage of LR4 develop presets

i use iMac 27", 16GB ram and mountain lion, along with LR4.2
i have only recently begun to use develop presets,  being lazy has just creeped up on me. I have 15 or 20 presets showing in my preset panel. Most are old.
i find that under app;ication/support/adobe/lightroom, that i have two folders. one called "develop presets", and one called "user presets."  both contain folders of presets. some seem to be duplicates. in total, the 2 folders contain about twice as many as in the preset panels. a good number do not show in my develop preset panel.
is this as it should be? can i create subfolders under the USER PRESETS in the develop presets panels and move them to there?
this is already sounding more complicated than it should. I will read the online help again.
thanks for any suggestions in this area.
    vince

thanks RIKK. i had figured that out a few minutes ago and was considering withdrawing it. it was so simple.
in any case, i am grateful for your response

  • Develop presets: "Unavailable Preset"

When I enable the library filter Develop Presets I see three instances of "Unavailable Preset" with counts of 1, 23, and 323. In detail these are
    (1) no presets at all, just a Clarity adjust. Click on import, then back on the Clarity --> applies correctly. Then when I refer back to the Develop Presets filter the count has changed from one to zero.
    (23) these images all reference a long-used and active preset that is just Clarity + Vibrance. Clicking on the image history shows that the final image is correct, and the before/after preset results are correct. But after cross-checking several images this way the count has now been reduced from 23 to xxxxxxxxxx
    (323) these images all reference a preset created today that I accidentally mis-applied to those images. (I'll refer to the mis-applied preset as GOOFY -- more on this below). Sampling some of these 323 images I see that the GOOFY preset is correctly applied. When I click on the previous history step, then GOOFY the "Unavailable Preset" count is decremented and a new "Custom" preset is incremented. I have never seen "Custom" preset before today.
Now, the story of the GOOFY preset. When I could find nothing in the documentation, forum or web, I decided to try disabling the unwanted preset by these steps at the Mac OS Finder level:
    - duplicate GOOFY to GOOFY-2
    - delete GOOFY file (I hoped LR3 would remove the references to the deleted GOOFY)
    - in grid view mass-apply GOOFY-2 to the correct images
    - quit, restart LR3
I've forgotten exactly what happened next, but for sure LR3 did not remove the non-existant preset links. For some reason I decided to rename the duplicated GOOFY-2 back to GOOFY. Now the images that correctly referenced GOOFY have two references to presets named GOOFY the oldest one is a NO-OP (does nothing), the latest one works as expected.
    Any advice would be appreciated:
** how to mass-delete an unwanted preset reference from a selection of images?
** how to clean up the above "Unavailable Preset" errors?

When a preset is created, it stores the current level of the chosen parameters at the time of creation; in the example below, the preset which will be named CurrentPreset1 will store the current levels applied to the selected photo at the time the preset was created, and in this case will only store values corresponding to Color, Lens Corrections, and Process version.
To update the values recorded in a preset, the various levels must be changed on the currently selected photo and then the "Update with current settings" must be selected on the preset to update. The "Update with current settings" therefore updates the preset itself with new values corresponding to the values set in the current photo and has nothing to do with how it was applied to photos in the past. A preset is not related in any way to photos on which it is applied; a preset simply applies the set values recorded in the preset on the selected photo as if these same values would be manually entered for the selected photo.

  • Develop presets stopped working

Having just aquired LR4.1, I was going through the various develop presets to see the various effects available.  It took several clicks to open one of the folders, when open I was able to preview the colour effects and preview.  I shut down that folder, and was not able to open any other folders, let alone the folder I just used.  I managed to import the presets into a folder, view them, close the folder, and again unable to open the folder I just previewed.  I am using Win 7 64-bit.

Since these are 3rd party presets you had better contact the manufacturer of these presets.
Since the Lr presets are working fine, this is most probably not a Lr issue.
But before going the - probably frustrating - way of contacting the 3rd party manufactureres, I'd try to un-install and re-install these presets - not Lr!

  • Develop presets

Can anyone share their develop presets for a Canon 5D mk II in LR 4?

I'm not sure if it's still the same deal, but I had "joined" the X-Rite site and was able to download the Passport software for free. Then if you happen to have a new or like new 24 patch Color Checker chart you could essentially do the same thing as having the Passport chart, except it's not as portable or durable.
On a side note, I have made numerous Camera Cals with the Passport software from both charts, shooting the chart in daylight, strobe, tungsten or mixed whatever. The strobe/daylight (direct sun) versions have similar characteristics (I use one as a general import for that camera body). If you get into shade it will probably be best to make another. And you can make dual Cals from mixed lighting, which is best to make custom for each scene, due to the narrow spectrum sources. If you have several cameras, also make custom Cals for each.
Of course all this hinges on having a good display with good calibration and profiling. There's no sense fighting the color with a poor and/or uncalibrated display.
    Ciao,
    John

  • Disappearing develop presets

Hi all.... just got Lighroom 2 as a gift for Christmas and watched the 7 hour Luminous Ladnscape tutorial, so I'm ready to go.
First problem.... I downloaded some cool develop presets to tinker with, imported them to Lighroom2. At the end of the day, I quit out of the program. The next day, the presets were not there. Where did they go? Do I need to "save" them somehow?
I'm working on an iMac, upgraded to 10.5.6.

    Mario,
Unfortunately I cannot reproduce what you're seeing with my german LR3.2RC.
    But:
Even if I do store my presets with the catalog, I don't see any .lrtemplate files for the standard Adobe LR presets in the preset folder right next to the catalog. My catalog folder structure looks like this:
    Folder [catalogname]
    File [catalogname].lrcat
    Folder [catalogname] Previews.lrdata
    Folder Lightroom-EinstellungenFolder Develop Presets
    Folder Lightroom-Vorgaben (Empty)
    Folder User Presetsseveral .lrtemplate files
If I understand you right, you see 51 .lrtemplate files in the folder Lightroom-Vorgaben? If so, try to move those out of the folder while LR is closed and see if it helps.
Also, I noticed, by adding a preset in develop, the preset entries in quick develop get reordered alphabetically. Try adding a test-preset in Develop and see whether it solves your list in Quick Develop in Library.

  • Trouble moving Develop Presets to new Vista machine

I have moved my library from an XP machine to a Vista machine, and am losing a lot of work. What I think is happening is that my images are "detached" from a Preset.
Many of my images have a Develop Preset applied upon import. So the first step in the edit list is Import/XXXX Preset.
I have moved the images and the catalog to the new machine. The preview image looks right, but as soon as I do something to trigger a refresh, the image turns red and loses its rotation. It seems that it is applying all of the steps, except the first one. I am guessing it cannot "find" the preset to reapply it.
I have moved the Presets to the corresponding folder, but b/c Vista renamed somethings, it is not the same path to get to the Preset.
    In WinXP:
    C:\Documents and settings\UserName\Application Data\Adobe\Lightroom\Develop Presets
    In Vista:
    C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Lightroom\Develop Presets
Maybe I will create a folder in Vista with the XP Path name to fake it out?
I can probably go back to my original machine and try some things, but it will be a lot of work. My edits were not saved to XMP, the edits are in teh LR database.
It's not a problem I expect can be solved here, but if anyone has idea, let me know.
    Rob.

I know... it is difficult, because there are a lot of variables.
New point (and probably key) -- The ones that I am having trouble with are RAW+JPG and I just realized that in the new installation, even thought both RAW and JPG files are present, the JPGs are being displayed. So the JPGs are getting all of the edit steps that the NEFs should be getting.
I just caught that now, not sure what I will do next.

  • Save crop in develop presets

I've been using LR's auto-import feature for tethered capture. It would be extremely helpful to be able to save the current crop (exact location - not just ratio) to a develop preset that I can than set to be applied to all auto-imported images. I am often shooting to fit a specific layout and have to resort to sync and/or previous to get things where I need them to be. Interestingly, I find that sometimes the crop will carry over to new images, but it isn't consistent or predictable.

    Add me to the list.
Using the 'original' size for a D300 is not what I want since the frame ratio 1.5056 rather than 1.5. This can cause some confusion later when printing. There should be a way to create a cropping preset or, lacking that capability make the crop ration 'sticky' until it is changed again.

  • Develop preset has a "+" next to it

I found a lot of topics on presets but nothing that talks about a "+" sign......
I have LR 4.3, and have several User Presets.  Most are from downloaded and installed presets like the "D300 Standard", "D300 Neutral", etc.
I've been using these for a long time - long before LR4, and they work fine.
Today, because I wanted a bunch of images to all have the same develop preset, in grid mode, I selected everybody and assigned the "D300 ACR4.4" preset while in the Library.  Then, I went into Develop to tweak the ones I want, and noticed that my "D300 Standard" preset has a "+" next to it...  I'm not using that preset for this image, and I'm curious what the "+" means...

I'm pretty sure it indicates the preset that was applied during the last import.....if next time you do an import and select "None" for "Develop Settings" under the "Apply During Import" box, I think you'll find the "+" will disappear.
Lightroom tends to use the "+" sign in various places to indicate something significant, for example to indicate the Target Collection (usually this is the Quick Collection, but can be re-assigned to any collection). Pressing "B" adds the current selection to the Target Collection, and the "+" indicates which collection is the Target. Same with Keywords.....assign one or more keywords to the Paint Can and that will be indicated by a "+" at the end of each keyword in the Keyword List.

Use Reset at the bottom of the right hand panel in Develop. Or you can select General Zeroed in the Develop presets.
