Import or Move Keyboard Shortcuts Etc. to CS4?

Is there a way to import or move my keyboard shortcuts from CS3 to CS4? What about layout settings etc.?

I have migrated my keyboard settings from PPro2 to CS4 and CS5.
From PPro 2 (XP) to CS4/5 (Win 7 64)
copy file:
C:\Documents and Settings\*yourusername*\Application Data\Adobe\Premiere Pro\2.0\*yourprefs.kys*
to:
C:\Users\*yourusername*\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Premiere Pro\4.0\*yourprefs.kys*
or
C:\Users\*yourusername*\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Premiere Pro\5.0\*yourprefs.kys*
Run Premiere, select: Edit/Keyboard Customization/ and your key settings
should appear in the Set: dropdown menu.
I have not found a way to migrate layout settings.

Keyboard shortcuts in Illustrator CS4

I have tried to customise keyboard shortcuts in CS4 but each time I quit I lose all settings. (they work fine til I quit). I have saved new sets, overwritted previous sets but they dont seem to save. What am I doing wrong.
Otherwise, speaking as a recent convert from Freehand, CS4 is wonderful now multiple pages have been added

We are experiencing the same problem in Illustrator CS4. We have saved a custom keyboard shortcut set only to have some of the shortcuts revert back when Illustrator is restarted. We have cleared the shortcut for "Reselect" and assigned command-6 to "Select Same Fill". The shortcut works fine until we quit Illustrator the the shortcut reverts back to "Reselect".

No keyboard shortcuts in InDesign CS4

the keyboard shortcuts doesn't shown in any menu.
the "edit>keyboard shortcuts" has no available set, or even not creating new set.
in othyer apps (PS, Illustaror, flash) it's fine.
they are not working obviously, it's not only visual matter.

It sounds like the reinstall is also damaged.

Make sure you are logged in with an adminsitrator account, and turn off you Anti-virus and Malware scanners. You may even want to go as far as a "clean boot" for the installation. See How to perform a clean boot to troubleshoot a problem in Windows 8, Windows 7, or Windows Vista

How Many Functions And Keyboard Shortcuts etc. Are Missing From FCE 4 ?

Seven hours ago I set out to discover the answer to this but I got side-tracked and discovered my camera had a microphone channel missing !
So is there anything missing from FCE4 ?
There have been spurious claims that things like "Export to Soundtrack" have been dropped and though the actual command has disappeared the functionality is there in "Export to QuickTime".
However, I seem to remember Tom saying that a certain keyboard shortcut (which I can't remember) is missing.
Has anyone noticed any particular items that really have been omitted ? (Don't say Soundtrack or 9GB of LT Media!)

just to confirm that what you and Tom have found is the same I have so far.
A comment: while all other commands now missing in the FCE4 contextual menu are available in its standard menus, the Clip Enable command is really a ghost command. Only the control-B keyboard shortcut toggles it, there is no mention of it in any menu, but it appears in Tools/Button List. The online Help mentions a Modify/Clip Enable commands that does not actually exist, but on the other hand it does not mention its keyboard shortcut that in fact works... very clear!

Keyboard shortcuts in CS4 won't work! Please help!

In the last month I have lost all of my keyboard shortcuts in my CS4 program. I was using Windows Vista Professional - and installed CS4 in August. Everything was working great. Then last month, all of the shortcuts disappeared. I uninstalled/then reinstalled CS4 - still nothing. Have done that several times, and looked on the forums for similar issues, in the Technotes - nothing. Yesterday my office upgraded my system to Windows 7. I am on a new HP Elitebook - also purchased in August, so my system can handle the program with ease.
Anyway, I had the IT guy do a 'clean install' per most of the chatter online, so i went to install the program and the install came up with 'errors' first was that Adobe 9 was not installed, nor was Photoshop. When i opened up illustrator - poof - no keyboard shortcuts again. Please if anyone knows of something that I could try, I would really appreciate it. This is seriously making me behind in projects and am ready to throw my new computer out the gigantic window that is in front of my desk.
Oh, since this - I updated my graphics driver (per suggestion for Photoshop), unistalled CS4 - AGAIN - and am in the process of reinstalling. But I am pretty sure that the shortcuts will be missing.

CS4 Reset View Keyboard Shortcut (ESC key) Not Working

Thanks in advance to anyone who can solve this:
Every keyboard shortcut in Photoshop CS4 works fine for me except one: the keyboard shortcut to reset view after using view rotation (the ESC key). Oddly, the keyboard shortcut does work in CS5 (I installed the demo). I've checked to ensure my keyboard is set to US English, which it is. I've tried resetting the Photoshop settings, and even reinstalling. Nothing. This particular keyboard shortcut doesn't seem to be one that can be changed through the keyboard shortcuts menu, and I have never customized the keyboard shortcuts anyway.
Some more information about my setup -- I'm using an Intuos 4 tablet, and do use the wheel to rotate the view. However, the keyboard shortcut doesn't work when I use the tool with my mouse or the wheel on my tablet, so it seems unlikely this is the issue. Regarding my hardware acceleration, I have a current gen nVidia card with plenty of horsepower, and all other OpenGL enhancements work fine.

I could be wrong but I seem to recall a service release fixed this issue.

How to change keyboard shortcuts

Hi everyone
can anyone help me to modify the keyboard shortcuts in Indesign CS4. When I create a new set in Edit Menu Keybord shortcuts and try to change Cmd+H to hide frame edges instead of hide indesign its not happening. can anyone tell me what is correct way to change the shortcut.

What's the default for hide edges on Mac? It's Ctrl + H which would in most circumstances lead me to think that it would be Cmd + H on Mac, but I think you are running into a problem with the OS using that key combo and intercepting the keystrokes.
Edit: that should have been Ctrl + H on Windows.

FireFox keyboard shortcuts - how to use old, traditional scheme?

I still have no idea why did FF team decided to touch keyboard patterns:
- It is not design/features/etc. Eyes can adapt to anything, indeed, no problem
but
- This is in the essence how your fingers use software, that's a physical world. Hands definitely are MUCH more sensitive.
I would like to note that I have all three (IE, Chrome, FF) browsers installed, I used FF last few years, but a few months (or half a year?) ago they made that radical update which touched not eyes/brains, but hands. And that's a mess:
- Home and End keys simply are not used now in FF :-/ (and earlier it was used for scrolling page in current tab)
- PgDw and PgUp keys are used for going forward/back (!) in your tab
- to switch tabs to the right you have to use Ctrl+Tab, and for back Ctrl+Shift+Tab
etc.
etc.
To say that I was disappointed is to say nothing. I tried, week or so, to adapt to new tradition of keyboard use in FF, but I miserably failed. Then, ** for some other reason ** I ran Chrome. And since then I am Chrommed....
- PageUp and PageDown keys do work in Chrome for scrolling page
- Home and End keys do work in Chrome for scrolling page
- Ctrl+PgUp/PgDn - you switch tabs
People like me do NOT switch to Mac because (I work mostly in MS Office) there a bit different (really minor) keyboard shortcuts etc. etc.
I am stuck. Or they are some kind of Linux or whatever guys... And I even don't know how to give them feedback, and how to show them that there MANY people like me - we love FF but your change of keyboard shortcuts touched not brain/eyes, but our hands.

Mmh, you could possibly simply copy over the respective files from your preset directory (Documents and Settings/Matjaz/Application Data/Adobe/Photoshop CS3/Presets/Keyboard Shortcuts). Not sure if it's safe, though. Never tried.

Importing CS4 Keyboard Shortcuts to CS5

I've discovered that you can open your custom keyboard shortcuts xml file in a text editor, and copy/paste shortcuts into your CS5 keyboard shortcuts file. Anyone else tried this? Is there an easier way to import all of your keyboard shortcuts from CS4 to CS5?

I did some experimentation, and I stand corrected! Apparently my memory was dodgy. In particular:
My experience is that it basically works fine, though it's been a while.
I thought we had tested this from CS3 to CS5, but it looks like maybe we only did it from CS5 to CS5.5. Which are a lot more similar.
(And yes, I did recall people having complaints about it, but my experience disagreed...)
Indeed, you have some problems with CS4 to CS5, but they are not subtle. At least, initially, I was getting a dialog box informing me that there were defined shortcuts in the shortcut set that were invalid (Somewhere along the way that stopped happening, which is Interesting, but probably not relevant).
Anyhow, I certainly don't disagree that pasting the XML differences is the better way to go -- I said as much in post #13.
But by way of recompense, here are a pair of scripts to make it easier.
Both require you to create a special shortcut set called "defaults" (i.e. defaults.indk) that they use as a baseline for differences. For a variety of reasons, it is insufficient for the script to use the Default.indk file in the application directory. Both scripts pop up an error if you have not done this, and tell you how to do it.
The first one, extractShortcuts.jsx, prompts you to select a shortcut file to extract from, compares it against the default shortcut set, and outputs and differences to a file on the Desktop, extracted.xml. Run this in CS4.
The second one, importShortcuts.jsx, prompts you to select the extracted.xml file from previous, asks you for the name of the new shortcut set, and then merges the two. It merges them in a fairly stupid way (just plain appending just before the end), but it's probably sufficient.

These are written on a Mac. I suppose there's they might not work perfectly under Windows if the logic to find the user's keyboard shortcuts directory doesn't work.
As always, install scripts by saving each script as a plain text file (in TextEdit or Notepad) and following directions at, e.g., How to Install InDesign Scripts.

InDesign CS4 launches with missing workspaces, keyboard shortcut sets, etc

I'm starting this as a new topic to focus on the cases where InDesign CS4 users are able to launch and use the product, but are missing resources such as the following types of presets: Workspaces, Keyboard Shortcut Sets, and Swatch Libraries.
All reports of this issue appear to be related to user permissions. For these resources to to be accessed you must be running InDesign CS4 with an account that has read/write access to the following folder, including it's subfolders and all of their content:
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe InDesign CS4\Presets
If you have a setup where you are running into problems getting resources from this folder to appear in InDesign CS4, and you believe your user account has read/write permissions to all of it's contents, please let me know as I'd like to work with you to find a solution.

The complete fix from start to finish for my problem (InDesign CS4 launching without toolbars or keyboard shortcuts when logged on without Administrator priviliges) is below. It's actually quite simple once you know how... The problem is just getting all of the information in the same place. Hopefully it will help others having the same problem.
1.        Install CS4 from the 2 installation CDs. Allow a couple of hours from start to finish.
2.        Log on with an Administrator account:
a.        Navigate to “C:\Program Files\Adobe\”.
b.        Right-click on the folder named “Adobe InDesign CS4”
c.        Click Properties
d.        Click on the Security tab
e.        Change permissions for Users to Full Control
f.         Click on the Advanced button and ensure that there is a check in both of the boxes (inherit and replace permissions).
g.        Click Apply to reflow the permissions
h.        Click OK twice.
3.        Navigate to the following locations and rename each of the EN_UK folders to EN_US:
a.        C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe InDesign CS4\Presets\InDesign Workspaces\
b.        C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe InDesign CS4\Presets\Page Sizes\
c.        C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe InDesign CS4\Presets\Start Page\
d.        C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe InDesign CS4\Presets\InDesign Shortcut Sets\
4.        With a user account, launch Adobe InDesign CS4 and immediately hold down Shift, Control and Alt together. Click Yes to delete the InDesign Preference files.

Is there a keyboard shortcut to move from a Finder search bar to results?

Is there a keyboard shortcut to move from a search bar in the top right of a Finder window, to the results below?

I can confirm that i see exact same behavior as you in all these situations. I was going to suggest tabbing too but decided to check if it actually works first and ran into the same issues. I don't believe there is any other method to do what you want as this one does not work.

What is the keyboard shortcut again from the type tool to the move tool?

If you hold the mouse over the tool in the tool palette Photoshop will pop up the answer for you.
If you use menu Edit>Keyboard Shortcuts the use the summirize button Photoshop will save your shortcuts for in a HTML page. You can search that page
