I have installed Photoshop CS5 on a new Computer. I have CS5 on my old computer.
How do I import or transfere all the settings, Bridge collections and all other personalizations for all components of CS5 to my new installation?

I'm wondering if the script could not be adapted for your case, to put them all on the desktop to move them to another machine.

The important part is SAVED presets:
It is not because you created a custom brush, and default gradient, etc. and that it is showing in your brush/gradients/... panels that it is saved on the machine. You need to use the preset manager, and make sure that all your custom created presets are saved in a new set. Just for this presets migration, I would recommend to do it on your desktop so that you will be able to save the files easily to a CD/Thumb drive
Ditto for actions, patterns, etc.

We learn there that those folders are hidden by default on the Windows platform. Follow the steps to make them visible

Hello! It would be nice to have a migration script in Bridge too...
In the past, there were folders you could copy, but given the database changes, I'm not sure, I need to check first with the team.
On a Mac, it is in the collections folders in ~Library/ApplicationSupport/Adobe/Bridge CS5/Collections/
PC(XP): C:Documents and Settings\user\Application Data\Adobe\Bridge CS5\collections
VIsta/7: user/app data/roaming/Adobe/Bridge CS5/Collections

When upgrading no files are copied from the previous version. So you will have to find them and copy them over. Locations are in post above.

Transferring albumn artwork/song ratings etc to new itunes install

I have windows XP installed on one HD and Vista installed on another HD on the same PC. I have spent a lot of time getting the album artwork, rating the songs etc on the XP iTunes install. I recently upgraded my ram and can now use Vista w/o Lag and I want to find a way to transfer all the settings to my new iTunes install on Vista.
All the music is stored locally on a 3rd HD on my pc so I don't need help transferring my library (I saw a LOT of posts about that topic, so I'm just being clear that I don't need help with that).
Also my iPhone is synched with the iTunes/XP and I don't want it to erase everything off the phone if I synch it with the Vista/iTunes.. I have authorized the new iTunes.. just wondering if that is good enough or if there's anything else I need to do to ensure I can synch to both versions of iTunes w/o a problem.

You need to put your iPod in automatic sync mode and they will transfer automatically.
You can't do it if you are in manual update mode.

Transferring iTunes playlists etc to new computer

Hi, i currently have all my music saved on an external hard drive & when i want to play music, i connect my hard drive via USB to my computer, startup iTunes where all my playlists which i have created etc are & it reads the music from the external hard drive.
I have now got a new computer & have installed iTunes.
My question is:
How do i now get the iTunes on my new computer to read my external hard drive like my old computer did & still have all my playlists etc there without having to re-sort all my songs?

If the ENTIRE iTunes folder including the iTunesLibrary.itl file is on the external hard drive, simply point iTunes there by holding SHIFT while launching iTunes.
If the iTunesLibrary.itl file is on the old computer then it becomes a little more complicated. Post back if further instructions are needed.

Transferring all files etc to new computer

I have an iMac with 2 users, me as administrator and my son as a user. I am buying him a macbook air. I would like to basically transfer the contents of the iMac to the MB-air upon purchase of MBair. now i know this is done a number of ways, and you are prompted your options to do this when you first start up the new computer. If I do this will it basically mimic the ibook with me as administrator and my son as a user? almost like a clone?

Only some functions work with new CS5 install

I just installed CS5 and was checking to see what had changed from the CS3 I used to use. So I opened a new document, drew a rectangle, and tried to change the stroke. When I use the Stroke pallet I cannot access either the weight or the type adjustments...either the up/down arrows, the pull-downs, or my typing in the box. Same for the toolbar buttons.
I can create a text box like normal but I can only change type characteristics using shortcut keys, not the buttons on the toolbars.
These are pretty basic IND functions.
Has anyone else suffered a similar install where only about half of the functions work?

I dunno if I qualify for "geezer" but I sure would like some larger fonts so I can get a better look at my large fonts:
The worst part is that yes, this is legible Chinese text, technically speaking. But a fix for ye olde Aero bug would save me a great deal of eyestrain.

New CS5 install vexing my Quicktime

I just purchased and installed CS5 Production Premium but now Quicktime is not running correctly. Symptom: say if I go to YouTube, the clips don't appear, just the audio, and the toolbar does not show all items. If I click on the blank picture, the clip plays in full-frame only. On other sites, clips do not even show up as full-frame, but audio is okay.
I'm running a mac clone: plenty of power and storage. OS 10.5.8. I updated my Mac software, but did not cure it.
Any suggestions?

Check the iPhoto trash - if they are there select them and right click and restore to library
If they are not there then they are gone
You really should take the time to learn how to use iPhoto - photos exist only in one place - in your events - albums, keepsakes, etc are just pointers to the actual photos in the event - deleting from an album does just that - deletes from the album - deleting from an event removes the photo and therefore all albums, keepsakes, etc
watch the videos as a starter - iPhoto help menu ==> iPhoto help and watch the video
also more details (for a previous version so some menu items are in different places but the concept is the same) - and it would be a worthwhile investment of time to take the iphoto tutorials - http://www.apple.com/findouthow/photos/ - they are very helpful and will save you a lot of time and frustration.

Create a new profile exclusively for the 4.0 beta version and create a desktop shortcut with -P "profile" appended to the target to launch that profile.

Install FEBE from Add Ons in FF on old computer. Back up entire profile. Also install FEBE in FF on new computer. Copy FEBE backup folder to new computer. "Restore" from FEBE. All of your settings, including cookies, passwords, etc. will be "restored." Note that on the new computer, you'll need to create two profiles: the default one you'll use on a regular basis and one to use for the restore.

The only other place to change a password for the computer login is in Users & Groups preferences. But I don't really know enough here to fix your problem. You can try fixing the keychain:

If you can't access your keychain, or forget your password If you can't get into your keychain file because you've forgotten your password or the keychain file appears to be corrupt, there are a couple of options.
First, if you've forgotten your password, you can use the "Keychain First Aid" utility to make the keychain password the same as the login password. This can be accomplished via the following process:
1. Open Keychain Access (located in Applications/Utilities)
2. Go to the "Keychain Access" menu and select "Preferences"
3. Click the "First Aid" tab

Login as root and perform repair In some cases, problems with keychains can only be resolved when logged in as the root user.
First, you want to enable the root user:

After enabling the root user, and logging in under this account, again open Keychain Access. First attempt repairs using Keychain First Aid, and failing that, delete then recreate the keychain as described above while logged in as root.
Persistently asked for stored passwords If you are persistently asked for passwords in various applications that you have specified should be remembered in a keychain, your "login" keychain may not be active for one reason or another.
Navigate to ~/Library/Keychains/ (this is the Library folder inside your user's home folder). Find the file named "login.keychain" and double-click it.
Failing that, select the "login" keychain within the Keychain Access application and make sure it is the default keychain by going to the "File" menu and selecting "Make 'Login' Default"
Turn off Keychain synchronization in applications having problems If specific applications are experiencing issues when accessing password-protected material, the Keychain may be to blame.

Change your settings in Sharing preferences, for one, and remove the server out of the Finder's sidebar. Obviously, this is the result of transfering all your other computer's preferences to your new computer.

It is not clear what you are trying to do nor what problem you are encountering in trying to do it. If you really mean you are trying to transfer applications from one machine to another that will not work. Adobe software needs to be installed using installation files.

Thank you for your prompt response - I did as you said and did a drag and drop into the iTunes window - it imported and got my album art from the net. When I started Itunes with the shift key down I was prompted to choose a library but since I copied over the media folder and not the library folder I was unable to select that so I guess I will have to create a new library and add in all the music, videos, etc. unless I wait for my laptop and export the library or at least that seems to be the case? In short, all my data (iTunes media folder) is on my external drive and can be added to the blank iTunes screen but I can not choose a library folder. Is there anyway around completely making all those playlists again? I am not sure my laptop will survive the shop with data intact and really hate to start over on those.
In an unrelated question - I collect old TV shows from the 1950's. Can I make playlists within the home video folder somehow? In other words like one for Quiz shows, one for comedies, one for police and detective shows, etc. while I am remaking all my playlists for my music if I end up having to go that route?

How to move entire Collections to a new catalog, including hierarchy, smart collections and also Publish set ups?

I want to move a large number of Collections, including all their hierarchy and smart collection settting, plus the photos, to a new catalog. I can only find a way of importing the actual photos themselves from the old catalog.
Also is there a way to have the publish settings migrated to the new catalog too?

I agree that a single catalog is the standard approach (all my personal photography is contained in a single catalog over the years). However this is for a large corporate event which we hold each year. This year I want to use extensively the face recognition and I don't want it assessing or confusing people with those who attended the event last year. The even is over 4 days and results in several thousand images from multiple photographers. It's just cleaner to keep the events in their own catalogs for now (good for archiving and backing up too)
