Import package query

Question

which is the best way to import any class or package ?
As Servlet throw IOException and my servlet not throwing any IO exception. In this way whether I call IOException class only,
as ----java.io.IOException;----
or should I call whole package
as ------import java.io.*;----------
which is the best way ? And if I call whole package, what is the effect of this on memory

they both compile to the same thing, which is to replace all mentions of "IOException" with "java.io.IOException", the import statement only tells the compiler where to look.
If, as you said, you don't acutually throw any IOExceptions, you could probably get away with only using:try
  //whatever
catch (java.io.IOException e)
  //whatever
}and not worry about the import at all. The imports are only there for readability, to serve as a hint as to what the class actually uses, and of course to save on typing so you don't have to include package names for everything.
