Import Palm calendar to iCal

I would like to import Palm calendar 4.2.1 into iCal.  Both are on an iMac 10.6.8 Any ideas?

Thanks, Niel. One follow-up, if you don't mind....does your response mean that once the calendar file on the Mac was created, adding items to the iPhone were considered a separate calendar file? If so, is it possible to have just one calendar file that is shared between the Mac and the iPhone?
Thanks.

  • Apple advice on importing Entourage calendar from iCal - taking forever!

    Hi everyone,
got onto Apple support today asking about moving our entourage calendar to iCal. So, sounded simple enough. Opened iCal, chose import, selected entourage and away we go. 7 hours later (no, I'm not exaggerating) it has got about 3/4 of the way and now the progress bar hasn't moved more than about a millimeter in the past hour. What the heck do I do now? It's almost 2am here - just let it continue running until the morning? At this rate it might take the rest of the week to complete!
Why would it take so long? Is this normal? Any faster way to achieve this? What about if I sync entourage and iCal, then when everything is there, export the entourage calendar from within iCal, then delete it, and then import it into the Home or Work calendar - would that work. This is so frustrating

Same thing here. Drives me crazy. Been importing for days now, always have to force quit the app since it's stuck at around 75% of the import.
Is there any way to get this to work?

  • Importing Outlook calendar into iCal

I am relatively new to Apple and one of the few things that is taking the gloss off an otherwise happy experience of working in this new environment is my inability to import my Outlook (2003) Calendar from the work office into iCal on my home iMac. I would be grateful if anyone could tell me if this is possible, and how it might be done so that I do not overwrite the appointments I already have entered in iCal. Thanks.

Don't blame Apple for this. Blame Microsoft. ALL of Microsoft's products (Outlook, Windows Media Player, Microsoft Office, etc.) were created in proprietary & closed formats, designed to keep you "locked in" to Microsoft and Windows as long as possible. Microsoft makes it nearly impossible to move any of your data out of their products and into a competitor's products.
Apple, on the other hand, has designed all of their products with open standards and open formats, so your data is never "locked in" like it is with Microsoft.
In the meantime, luckily you can use the product Outlook2Mac to get your data over from Outlook's calendar to iCal.

  • Import .ics calendar to ical

I have a class calendar that is an .ics file.  I have the url, but do not know how to import it into ical.
    Can someone help me out?

If it is a live link all you have to do is tap it. If not mail yourself the url and it should become live. Else wise the steps are as follows from the manual.
“Subscribe to a calendar. Go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars, then tap Add Account. Tap Other, then tap Add Subscribed Calendar. Enter the URL of the .ics file to subscribe to. You can also subscribe to an iCalendar (.ics) calendar by tapping a link to the calendar.”

  • Iweb ('08) - importing a calendar from ical

I'm an iweb beginner and am trying to embed an ical into a webpage (in the form of an availability/booking calendar). I'm having a couple of problems:
    1. When I try to scale my imported calendar down, I loose some data (chops off Sundays....not helpful)
    2. Even though my ical was set on "month" when I hit publish, it displays as "week" when I import it. How do I get it to import as month and stay like that (without the user having to click on "month" and change it themselves.
I've noticed other posts suggest the use of a google calendar rather than ical....is this because a google calendar is more manageable?

"....is this because a google calendar is more manageable?"
Google calendar is quite manageable. I've been using it for several months. It's easy to customize. Works well with HTML snippet in iWeb. ...been trying different things. Take a look at the most recent version of what I am doing with it on my website.

Send me a note from there if you have questions.
If you use iPhone, I recommend an app called Pocket Informant. I have been using this to update my Google calendar from anywhere I have a signal in order to keep my booking/availability current.

  • I am getting an error when trying to import a calendar to ical

I am trying to add a calendar subscription to ical but it keeps giving me an error -1 message.  Any suggestions on how to correct the error?

I was able to get it to work.  The root folder which held the pictures had a lock on it through windows 7.   Even though the drive was shared, I still had to go into the folder properties and share it with everyone.   Once i got the lock off and rebooted I was able to add captions again.

  • How to import calendar into iCal?

I am trying to import a calendar into iCal. Here is my AppleScript:
    set theFile to "Sample.ics"
    tell application "iCal"
    open theFile
    end tell
    tell application "System Events"
    tell process "iCal"
    tell window "Add events"
    click pop up button 1
click menu item "New Calendar" of menu 1 of pop up button 1
    click button "OK"
    end tell
    end tell
    end tell
I have specified a full path for theFile in the actual script. Here is what happens when I run it:
The iCal icon starts jumping and the script just stays running. If I hunt around I can find the "Add events" window and it is just sitting there waiting for interaction. If I click the pop up button and select New Calendar then click OK the file imports like I wanted and my script errors out saying it can't find the "Add Events" window. Clearly my script loads the file into iCal fine. Then it has problems. Here are my guesses as to what goes wrong:
    1. maybe the "Add event" window is modal and iCal won't respond to the script until the window is dealt with.
    2. maybe the pop up button is not a pop up button and is some other UI element .
    3. maybe there is an issue with focus
    4. maybe I have no clue, should stop speculating, and someone will help me.

I'm stuck too. Although the Accessibility Inspector describes the “Add events” window as belonging to iCal, the script seems not to see that window as a UI element of iCal:
    tell application "iCal"
    activate -- essential statement!
    open theFile
    end tell
tell application "System Events" to tell process "iCal"
    return UI elements
    end tell
    --> {window "iCal" of application process "iCal" of application "System Events", menu bar 1 of application process "iCal" of application "System Events"}
It doesn't even seem possible to bypass the process by using the keystroke command.

  • Outlook calendar to iCal

I use a PC at work with Outlook, and would like to import my calendar to iCal at home...How do i do this? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

    I found this link.
    http://sheepnut.org/weblog/outlook-to-ical-converter/
When I tried the software with a downloaded Outlook calendar .csv file it created a calendar in iCal but there were NO entries. When I opened the .csv file with Excel or Numbers it looks fine and correct but the conversion into iCal did not work for me.
I am still looking. Have you had any luck?

  • ICal imports Palm all day events as 2 day events - easy to fix?

    Hi,
I want to make the switch from Palm desktop 4 to using iCal 3 but I've run into a problem. When I import the vcal exported from Palm, the iCal makes all of the all (one) day events into 2 day events.
Is there anyway to fix this so the all day event displays only on the day it was set for in Palm?
I'm hoping I don't have to do all of these by going back to my oldest events and changing the dates by hand because I have almost 9 years of data in my Palm calendar.
    Thanks.

Just to update what I've been trying without success.
I exported the Palm datebook as .csv file. I then edited any entries that began and ended the same day without any times, i.e. the one day all day events, to begin at 12:01am and end at 11:59pm. Then after backing up my Palm user data and prefs, I erased my Palm data and reimported this .csv file into Palm desktop, then I reexported it to a vCal and imported that into iCal.
It made a mess out of things because I discovered some of these all day events also repeated. I'm not sure what to do with repeating events.
I tried going into iCal and manually changing the events but then I end up with many duplicates if they are repeating.
I exported the iCal data and opened it in Text Wrangler. Then I exported the calendar from Sunbird. It seems like the iCal is adding an extra "end date" that isn't in the file when I import it into Sunbird.
Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

  • Importing Now Up To Date Calendar into iCal

I have been using NUTD for ten years. It is now starting to crash often with the latest OS software. So I would like to import my entire NUTD calendar into iCal. However, I cannot figure out how to do this. I have looked at discussions on the subject, but they all seem to be several years old. Any new ideas on doing this? I have a Bed and Breakfast and need the past ten years calendar info, plus the reservation info that goes out three year from now. So I need to import 13 years worth of calendar data.

I just did a full migration from Now Up-to-Date to iCal and was successful using a tip obtained elsewhere. The key is to pass the data through Excel and Palm Desktop. Now can't export vCal yet and iCal won't import tab delimited text. However, Palm Desktop can import tab-delimted text and export vCal.
I don't think you can successfuly create multiple iCal calendars from the Now categories going through Palm Desktop; I didn't try that. To make sure it worked out, I did it using multiple export/imports doing one Now category at a time by passing it through Excel. Here's a summary of the steps:
    1. Export your date rage from Now in tab-delimited format.
    2. Open the export file in Excel, sort by category.
    3. Extract all entries for each category into separate workbooks, save each as tab-delimited text file format.
    4. Open Palm Desktop and create a new calendar for the category (e.g business, personal, special events, etc.) Save it in a temp place like your desktop.
    5. Import the text file to the new Palm Desktop calendar
    6. Export from Palm Desktop to a vCal file
    7. Create a new calendar in iCal for the category to be imported
    8. Import the vCal file into that calendar.
Repeat steps 4-8 for each Now category.
There were some anomolies I couldn't explain (like some single-day all-day events becoming two-day events in iCal), but I just cleaned those up manually.
Repeating events in the Now Calendar will become multiple single events in iCal. Also, if you have any commas in titles or notes, the process of passing through Excell wil put " " around those entries in iCal. If this bothers you, you could pass the saved Excel text files (from step 3) through a text editor (Text Wrangler works best, TextEdit should do it also) to delete the quotes if you want.

  • Palm OS to iCal importing

Nothing I have tried to trouble shoot this issue has resulted in succes. When I import my calendar data from Palm Desktop (latest version) as an export and then import into iCal I get all of the appointments I've had for the last three years displayed in one single calendar day. Heart attack city. Any help please?

    What are you talking about?
Support is available simply by filing a support request by electronic mail. The application itself is thoroughly documented with a User Guide, Help file and installation and setup wizards. Your short note indicates that you either did not read this material, or did not understand it.
There is nothing to 'remove' to return to synchronizing with the Palm Desktop or with iSync, though you must remove—as is documented in the User Guide—the Missing Sync using a supplied Uninstaller utility. As a consequence of the installation of the Missing Sync for Palm OS, both the HotSync Manager and Transport Monitor are replaced with Mark/Space components. Neither the Palm Desktop nor iSync will work without the original Palm components.
And, you don't synchronize your "Palm OS with iCal." You synchronize the contact, calendaring and task data on your Palm device either with the Palm Desktop using Palm-supplied conduits, or with the Address Book and iCal using iSync and the iSync Palm Conduit.

  • My palm calendar wont open after Lion download.  Palm is so much better than ical,  is it not going to work w/ Lion?

Palm calendar won't open now that I've downloaded Lion. Palm is so much better than ical.  Is there a fix?

I miss Palm Desktop for Mac. The integration of contacts, to-dos, notes, appointments, etc. was great. I stopped using it about a year ago when I finally sold my Palm Tungsten T and purchased and iPhone 4. iCal etc. work fine for me, but they're not as good as Palm Desktop was.
I also miss Graffiti 1 handwriting recognition. I could write with it as fast and flawlessly as I can write longhand on paper, and nearly as fast as I can type. It was the best for meetings and interviews, since I could write without having to look at the screen. iOS has nothing that comes close; I've gotten used to the onscreen keyboard but it's slower, I make far more mistakes, and I have to keep my eye on the screen while typing.
As others have pointed out, Palm Desktop was written for PPC processors. Lion does not include and cannot run Rosetta, which is the emulation environment which allowed Intel processors to run PPC code. So Palm Desktop will not run on a Mac running Lion.
I was syncing to my Palm Tungsten T under Snow Leopard (and using Palm Desktop) with no troubles at all. There are third-party sync options available, but they're all kludgy and unreliable compared to Palm's own syncing. Again, though, the Palm software for syncing was written for PPC processors and so won't run on any Mac booting into Lion.

  • How can i import my calendar events from google calendar to ical?

how can i import my calendar events from google calendar to ical?

To set up CalDAV support for Google Calendar in Apple's iCal, follow these steps:
Open Apple iCal, go to Preferences and then the Accounts tab.
Click on the + button to add an account.
In the box that pops up, enter a description for the account and your Google Account username and password.
Under Server Options, add the following URL:
    https://www.google.com/calendar/dav/[email protected]/user//www.google.com/calendar/dav/[email protected]/user
Replace '[email protected]' with the email address that you use to log in to Calendar. Make sure to include the '@domain.com' portion (which is @gmail.com for Gmail users) in this section.
DO NOT substitute your username for 'user' at the end of the URL.
Leave the Use Kerberos v5 for authentication option unchecked.
    Click Add.
Under the Delegation tab, select the calendars you'd like to add to iCal by checking the boxes next to them. You may need to hit refresh to get the latest list of calendars.
Add your email address to your Address Book card by selecting Add Email. You'll be prompted to add your email address only if your address is not already in your Address Book.
You won't be able to invite or email guests to Google Calendar events within iCal if your address is not in your Address Book.
Your Google Calendar will now appear in iCal's list of calendars, and changes you make to your Google Calendar in iCal will be reflected when you sign in to Google Calendar.
Event information will automatically refresh every five minutes. You can change this interval by opening the iCal > Preferences > Accounts menu and selecting a new refresh interval under the 'Refresh calendars' drop-down. Keep in mind you can also force a refresh by selecting a calendar and pressing the Apple and R keys at the same time.
Calendars that are checked but disabled have already been added to iCal - you can remove them from within iCal.
