Import pdf to itunes

I've forgotten how to import pdf's to itunes so that I can import to my ipad.
Thanks.
Tzipora

I use an older iTunes but I just drag to an iTunes Window the way I do with any other file.  However, recently Apple introduced an iBooks app on Mavericks that took away iBook functionality from iTunes and put it in a separate app.  I run an older system but if they did that for iBooks it may also have moved pdf functionality to iBooks too.  Probably somebody else can give a more definitive answer.

  • FM7 for Macintosh can't import PDFs from Distiller 8.1.2

    I'm not sure exactly what day I updated my Distiller 8 to the latest 8.1.2, but now, PDFs created with Distiller, whether from Frame in Classic or from an OS X app, can't be imported into FrameMaker 7 for Mac. I get an error that Frame can't load the document (39251:-1) and the console posts this error:
    ] Error in function TryToImportPDFIntoObject, status=IMPORTPDFCantAddPDFFacet
    Setting Distiller to save down to earlier version does not work, and neither does opening it in Acrobat and doing a save. However, I am not out of luck: If I distill it with Apple Preview, it works fine. Also, PDFs made with earlier Distiller work fine.
    Frankly I don't expect any specific answers, but I thought I'd post my "God Save the Macintosh" rant anyway!

    SOLVED!
    As suspected, my problem of not being able to play or import CD from iTunes 8.1 was internal to iTunes (with a little help from me). iTunes does not recognize the drive letters of A: or B: I wanted the drive letter configuration of my computer to be C:SYSTEM and D:DATA, so I changed the optical drive to A: just like the old floppy drives used to be. (Going old school.) Since iTunes will not accept that, I changed the drive letter of the optical drive to O: (for optical) and everything works.
    To do this, go CONTROL PANEL>SYSTEM AND MAINTENANCE>ADMINISTRATIVE TOOLS>COMPUTER MANAGEMENT>STORAGE>DISK MANAGEMENT. All your drives should be laid out in front of you. (If your optical drive isn't listed, you might have to insert a disk and from the menu bar select ACTION>REFRESH.) Left click on your optical drive to select it and then right click on Change Drive Letter and Paths... Select Change, enter any unused drive letter greater than B: (D: is common by default, O: seemed to work) and OK your way out of it.
    Changing my drive letters has probably left me open to problems from other programs that don't taken drive letter flexibility into account, but iTunes works for me.
    I am e-mailing this to the Apple tech who tried unsuccessfully to help me, placing suspicion on everything except the coding of iTunes. Hopefully, Apple will put this in their knowledge base, because it seems to be a common problem and few know the solution.

  • How to import pdf files as booklets - and not as books in 9.2

    After having being very fond of the possibility to include booklets (or, in my case, sheet music) in pdf format into the main music library, I can't find the way to do it in version 9.2. It still imports the pdf, but puts it into the Books department. The old pdf files are still in the Music library.
    Any help?
    Thanks,
    Walt

    This change of behaviour is most annoying, and to my mind is further proof that the primary function of iTunes as a music player/organiser has been lost sight of in the welter of iPod/iPhone/iPad 'features'.
    I find that I can still import PDF booklets into the main Music library, but they no longer merge with their related album as they used to when Album Title and Album Artist were set appropriately. What you need to do now if this is what you want to happen is Get Info on the PDF booklet after you import it, and change the Media Type to 'Music' in the Options tab (iTunes 9.2 sets this to 'Book' by default).
    It's a nuisance to have to perform this additional step, but at least it brings back the previous behaviour.

  • IBooks does not open. It only briefly shows an empty  bookcase. I have all my important .pdf reference documents in my library.  I was never able to figure out how to backup ibooks.  I am afraid to reinstall the apps risking loss of data. Any way to save?

    IBooks will not open with new ipad and upgraded iOS. It only opens briefly to show an empty  bookcase. I installed the most recent update of iBooks. In apps store it says 'open'.  But the same thing happens...a brief flash.  Strangely, the image and list of my collection actually shows in miniature with all the open apps; so I can close it as I do any other app.
    I have all my important .pdf reference documents in my library.    I am afraid to reinstall the apps risking loss of data. I was never able to figure out how to backup ibooks. Any way to save without access to the program?

    Now that you have your PDFs on your computer's iTunes library you could try deleting and redownloading the app, and then sync the PDFs back to it - as long as you continue to keep a copy of the PDFs on your computer (and preferably on a backup as well) then if the same thing happens again then you could delete and reinstall again (you shouldn't have any problems with the iBooks app, but then you shouldn't have had a problem this time either).
    You could try GoodReader (you could have the most important PDFs in both) - but the current version on iOS 7 isn't getting very good reviews in terms of its speed and crashes (it's description page says that a major update is coming soon).

    Hi Sam,
    I understand where you are about being your own IT department, it can be overwhelming ...
    What drives to buy depends an awful lot on how you will use them, what your budget is, and your preferences.
    In the case of your DP Powermac, for online storage used primarily for editing, I would add one or more internal drives first. Look for drives that are at least 7200rpm and have at least an 8MB cache. 10,000rpm/16MB cache is even better, but more expensive. Seagate Barracudas have always been good choices.
    For backup purposes, I'd pick some good external FireWire drives; you can also use these for online editing, lots of people do. Your Mac has both FW400 and FW800 ports - either kind is fine but if you get drives that support both, you would want to connect them to the FW800 port for the added performance.
    In my experience, the Lacie d2 Extreme drives have been very very good. In fact I have 3 of them daisy-chained off my iMac G5 right now and they work flawlessly with FCE. Weibetech and Granite Digital drives are further upscale in performance and price. RAID configurations would be even further upscale. Do stay away from consumer level hard drives, however ... the Western Digital MyBook series & no-name drives come to mind ...
    Don't use a FireWire hub for your external drives, it's just asking for trouble.
    ps. And thanks for your nice comment about me. I'm happy to help, as are other folk in the forum.

  • How do I import .pdf files to iBooks with Maverick

    I am having trouble importing .pdf books to iTunes/iBooks since I went over to Mavericks. With Mountain Lion I would simply drag and drop or use the "add to library" pull down. Now nothing will move over. This includes the ipod Nano7 users guide and others...
    Help?

    There might be some way using the Camera Connection Kit, but that is an expensive way to go about things. Even if it does work now, it might not work come iOS7.

  • Importing pdfs to multiple devices, quickly!

    Hello all.
    I have a question regarding importing PDF files into the ipad to use in iBooks (or other free applications if they are more suitable, please advise).
    I have about 100 PDF files (at the moment, it will increase in the future) on my computer.  They are NOT novels, they are flyers/catalogues for our products.
    we distributed ipads to sales reps and are currently setting up the devices.
    Before launching this initiative, we need to import the PDF files into ipads.  The only way I know how to do this is via Itunes.  HOwever, when the file sizes are this big, its very time consuming.  (100 files x 50 devices)
    I tried conerting the pdfs into EPUB files, however these files did not work on the ipad for some reason.
    What would be the fastest way to transfer these files onto these devices before handing out these devices to sales reps?
    I considered dropbox and other cloud based ones, but where i am, China, there is no unlimited internet connection servcie available,  in other words telecomm fees will be  too much if we use cloud based services, so I would prefer a method that does not require internet connection.
    please advise and let me know.  If you know alternative methods that will yield the same reuslts (ultimately, if we can distribute these pdfs onto ipads and sales can view them without trouble, it is not crucial that the app used to view these are ibook.)
    thank you in advance.

    Here are some methods that I have come across.
    Consider some push method:  SugarSync or dropbox addon.  Depending on how often the fiels change. Most of the syncing could be done in the home office.
    There are lots of ways of moving files.  USB to iPad supports only "Camera" files via camera connection kit.
    A simple and popular way to copy files.

    Using iCloud?
    Found this in the iBooks Help Center ...
    About using iBooks with iCloud
    Your books, collections, highlights, notes, and bookmarks are available automatically on your computers and iOS devices—just use the same Apple ID to sign in to the iBooks Store.
    If you buy a book on your Mac, it’s automatically available on all of your iOS devices with iOS 6 or later and with Show All Purchases turned on in iBooks settings. (Books made with iBooks Author aren’t available on iPhone or iPod touch.) To see all your purchased books on your Mac, choose View > Show Purchases in iCloud.
    If you start reading a book on one device, you can pick up right where you left off on another device. Collections, highlights, notes, and bookmarks are also available on other devices when “Sync bookmarks, highlights, and collections across devices” is selected on your Mac in the General pane of iBooks preferences. On your iOS devices, turn on Sync Bookmarks and Sync Collections in iBooks settings.
    If you’re not seeing your info on all of your devices, make sure you’re using the same Apple ID in the iBooks Store on your Mac and on each iOS device. Also, make sure syncing is turned on in the General pane of iBooks preferences on your Mac and in iBooks settings on your iOS devices.

  • Can't import music to iTunes

    This is something that recently started happening. I record a radio show with Audio Hijack pro. I import it to iTunes and it plays fine. I then find a small selection that I'd like to edit and keep. I open Fission and do my editing and save it. It saves under the name I assign it. I try to import the new file to iTunes and it doesn't load in to iTunes because the tag is still the same as the original file. I found this out when I used Finder to "Get Info." I changed the tagged name of the original file that is still residing in iTunes and then tried importing the new file to iTunes again. No go. I then double clicked the file in Finder to get it to play in iTunes. It played, but strangely enough, it didn't appear in the Music Library, but it did appear in the "Recently Added" section of the iTunes window. I used that appearance to change the Tags completely. I checked the "Music Library" after that, but the selection still did not appear. I tried dragging it from "Recently Added" to the Library, but it didn't work. I also tried dragging it to my iPod, but that didn't appear to work either.
    I then tried a work-around and created a playlist with that selection and another selection and dragged that playlist over to the 'pod. The selection appeared on the 'pod, but only within the playlist, not the 'pods music library. I could play the new selection only via the playlist. It is still invisible to iTunes.
    Does anyone have any idea why this should be? Am I missing a step in in the editing process? Could this be tag related and is there a way to edit the tags prior to importing to iTunes?

    I too was having this problem, importing files to my iTunes.  These were songs that I had on CD and had ripped.  The first problem was that they were in .WAV format.  I converted the files to .m4a (I also tried .mp3) and I still couldn't import.  I put the files in a folder named after the album, nested in another folder named after the band in the iTunes/iTunes Media/Music folder.  (For example, The Doors/L.A. Woman) but then when I went to import the files into my iTunes library, like the above poster, absolutely nothing would happen, no error messages or anything.  But I noticed the folders I had previous created, The Doors/ L.A. Woman, where gone.  Finally I realized that because my files were not tagged with the Artist or Album iTunes was moving the files to a folder called Unknown Artist/Unknown Album, under the iTunes/iTunes Media/Music folder.  Unknown Artist doesn't show up in the iTunes artist list.
    What I did to fix this, was to play the song, in iTunes, right click on it and select "get info".  Once the song is tagged properly with the Artist and Album, it will show up in the iTunes library AND it will actually create folders with the Artist and Album, on your hard drive, under iTunes/iTunes Media/Music AND move the song to this folder.  There's probably a lot of other ways to tag the files, such as from the Recently Added playlist, by making a new playlist for the album or external software.  I hope this helps someone from stratching their head as much as I was!

  • Can't import songs into itunes library...

    For some reason it isn't working. I took a couple of songs off my ipod via ephpod and i tried opening them using the import function in itunes. I open it, but the songs aren't added into the library at all. Maybe it might be the file format? Anyone have anyway to convert the songs into the accepted format?

    Yep,
    I have been having the exact same problem now for over a year. First, it was like six hundred songs--wouldnt play on my ipod and then wouldnt add into my itunes library. It happened to correspond with an update of itunes and the ipod firmware. It has only gotten worse and now I am in fear of updating anything further. I have been looking for answers to this problem for a long time, if you happen to get an answer that works would you let me know about it too?
    Thanks!

  • Can't Import Songs To iTunes Using Apple Lossless Encoder

    I have about 4,000 songs in FLAC format (which is a lossless format) on my external hard drive. I want to import them into iTunes using the Apple Lossless Encoder. I called Apple support and asked them how to do this, and they told me to go under "Preferences" in iTunes and chose to import using Apple Lossless Encoder.
    I did this using Preferences>General>Import Settings, and then went to File>Add Folder to Library, however, it still imported my songs as AAC Audio Files. Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong? Thanks.

    iTunes cannot read nor import FLAC files - not without third-party plugins, anyway, and I don't know of any that will allow iTunes to convert a FLAC file to another format - so I'm a bit confused as to the procedure you're following. If all you're doing is using the Add to Library command and choosing the FLAC files, it's quite possible that iTunes is misinterpreting the format and adding what is in reality an invalid link with erroneous format information.
    If you have some sort of third-party plugin for FLAC for iTunes, please post that information and perhaps someone here can determine whether iTunes can do a conversion successfully.

  • Can't import videos to iTunes!??

    I've been trying to import videos to itunes and for some reason they just won't go in! I have tried dvdrips and already converted to mp4 files on my harddrive, i've even downloaded the sample movie from the apple website to try and import that.
    When i go to import in the fille menu, find the file and click choose absolutely nothing happens. the finder window closes and thats it. the same happens for add to library function. i have the most up to date version of itunes and my brother has the same mac ipod and itunes version and can do it just fine exactly the same way as i am trying. pretty frustrating can anyone help?? pleases?

    Have you tried using the Finder? Just drag the video files onto Library in the sidebar. iTunes can be unresponsive - don't drop the files until Library (or Movies) turns blue and you see a green dot with a plus sign on your cursor.
    Once your movies are in iTunes, you can convert them to iPod format. Select the movie under Movies, then choose Advanced > Convert Selection to iPod.

  • How can I auto export a PDF File using the "Smallest File Size" preset and set the Exported File Name based on information from an Imported PDF?

    Greetings all,
    I am trying to create a script to automate a PDF export process for my company for inDesign. I’m fairly new to inDesign itself and have no previous experience with javascript, although I did take C++ in high school and have found it helpful in putting this code together.
    We have an inDesign template file and then use the Multi-page PDF importer script to import PDF files. We then have to export two version of each file that we import, then delete the imported file and all of the pages to reset the template. This has to be done for nearly 1000 pdf files each month and is quite tedious. I’m working on automating the process as much as possible. I’ve managed to piece together code that will cleanup the file much quicker and am now trying to automate the PDF exports themselves.
    The files are sent to us as “TRUGLY#####_Client” and need to be exported as “POP#####_Client_Date-Range_North/South.pdf”
    For example, TRUGLY12345_Client needs to be exported as POP12345_Client_Mar01-Mar31_North and POP12345_Client_Mar01-Mar31_South.
    There are two templates built into the template file for the north and south file that are toggled easily via layer visibility switches. I need to get a code that can ideally read the #s from the imported Trugly file as well as the Client and input those into variables to use when exporting. The date range is found in the same place in the top right of each pdf file. I am not sure if this can be read somehow or if it will have to be input manually. I can put North or South into the file name based on which template layer is visible.
    I am not sure how to go about doing this. I did find the following code for exporting to PDF with preset but it requires me to select a preset and then type the full file name. How can I set it to automatically use the “Smallest File Size” preset without prompting me to choose and then automatically input some or preferably all of the file name automatically? (If the entire filename is possible then I don’t even want a prompt to appear so it will be fully automated!)
    PDF Export Code (Originally from here: Simple PDF Export with Preset selection | IndiSnip [InDesign® Snippets]):
    var myPresets = app.pdfExportPresets.everyItem().name;
    myPresets.unshift("- Select Preset -");
    var myWin = new Window('dialog', 'PDF Export Presets');
    myWin.orientation = 'row';
    with(myWin){
        myWin.sText = add('statictext', undefined, 'Select PDF Export preset:');
        myWin.myPDFExport = add('dropdownlist',undefined,undefined,{items:myPresets});
        myWin.myPDFExport.selection = 0;
        myWin.btnOK = add('button', undefined, 'OK');
    myWin.center();
    var myWindow = myWin.show();
    if(myWindow == true && myWin.myPDFExport.selection.index != 0){
        var myPreset = app.pdfExportPresets.item(String(myWin.myPDFExport.selection));
        myFile = File(File.saveDialog("Save file with preset: " + myPreset.name,"PDF files: *.pdf"));
        if(myFile != null){
            app.activeDocument.exportFile(ExportFormat.PDF_TYPE, myFile, false, myPreset);
        }else{
            alert("No File selected");
    }else{
        alert("No PDF Preset selected");
    So far my code does the following:
    1) Runs the Multi-Page PDF Import Script
    2) Runs PDF Export Script Above
    3) Toggles the Template
    4) Runs #2 Again
    5) Deletes the imported PDF and all pages and toggles template again.
    It’s close and much better than the original process which was almost 100% manual but I’d like to remove the Preset prompt from the PDF script and have it automatically select the “Smallest File Size” preset. and then if there’s a way to have it auto-fill in the file name so no user input is required at all other than selecting each file to import. (If there’s a way to setup a batch action for the multi-import script that would be even better!)
    Thanks in advance and if there’s anything else I can provide that would help please let me know! Even a nudge in the right direction will be a big help!

    If you hold down the option key, it will typically show the location. Or you can often hit option-return on the file and it will reveal the file in the Finder, instead of opening it.
    Final option is to open it, and just option-click the filename in the toolbar of Preview and it should show you the location.
    It's probably an attachment to an email you've received. If you have Mail set to cache emails and their attachments it'll be stashed in a subdirectory of ~/Library/Mail. Which is fine.

    First we should check the precise version number of your iTunes. In iTunes, go "Help > About iTunes" and wait for the version number to scroll up from the bottom of the screen.
    Do you have a version 10.1.0.54 ? If so, upgrade to a higher version as per the following document:
