what can i do to fix this?

Strangely enough, I exchanged the ATV2 and ATV3 and now both work fine. I suspect it may have something to do with the fact that (previously) the ATV3 (1080p) was behind an ethernet hub. Somehow the ATV2 (720p) does not mind being behind the hub. Either that or iTunes suddenly became smarter since the exchange . Anyway, it works now so I'm not touching it. Thanks for the suggestion.

  • Alias freakout 2: imported photo files come in as alias

This may be a second question, or may simply be an extension of the first, "original files changing to alias." I'm on iPhoto 8 7.5.1. I download my shots into PhotoMechanic so I can do renaming etc. Photo Mechanic makes files in my designated picture file and stores the downloaded shots there while I rename them. After that process is over, I import those files into iPhoto. I've been doing this for ages. Now, all of a sudden, when I import anything - even straight off the desktop - into iPhoto, the file I end up with in my iPhoto Originals file is an alias. Today, I imported a shot straight from desktop and it shows up in the library as an alias with a FIREWORKS icon. Fireworks had nothing to do with the process - it wasn't even open. But many of the icons are NOT FIREWORKS. Many of them - I've gotta figure out what, exactly they are. All are alias. So the library is pointing to sources outside of itself???
    I am freaking out.

Same questions as you previous post.

  • Location of thumbnails and copying imported photo files?

I am just learning to use Photoshop Elements 9 in a Windows XP computer. In Organizer, I imported some photo files from an external hard drive and then thumbnail photos were created in the workspace of the Orgnaizer.
    1) Where are these thumbnail photo files located? I looked in the Adobe folder, C:\Documents and Settings\Richard\My Documents\My Pictures\Adobe but the thumbnails are not there.
    2) How do I prevent photo files from being copied to my C: hard drive when they are imported from my camera or external hard drive, or when they are scanned into the Organizer?
    Thanks.

Specify a custom location for your catalog.  Organizer will create a folder (named for the catalog) at that location and the catalog and its associated thumbnail files will be created in that folder.
As mentioned earlier, you can also specify the location for imported photos.

  • How do i import photos and physically downloaded music from my broken iPhone onto the new one?

So, I was on vacation last week and dropped my iPhone 4S 10 stories down onto concrete. Needless to say the screen didn't survive.
I have backed up the old phone to iTunes and restored the new phone, yet all my photos are missing as well as any of the music that I hard downloaded onto the device.
    Any help??
    Thanks!
    John

Hmm. Ok, so even though the broken iPhone is still recognized by iTunes, there is no way to pull the pictures from it?
Also, all my music is in the cloud, but I'm wondering if there is an automatic way to simply get all the music that I have already physically downloaded onto my old iPhone onto the new without manually selecting each one.
    Thanks!

  • Importing RAW file in Mac OS X 10.10.3 using Photos

I am hoping someone who has been using Photos for Mac OS X has figured out where the RAW files are stored in Photos.
    Basically, the following are problems that  am facing;
My RAW files are not appearing in Photos program on both my iMac and MBP. I never used to have this problem with iPhoto.
When I import photo files that have a RAW twin, I can see the JPEGs marked 'J' in Photos but the RAWs are not displayed.
in Photos I have to import videos separately from my camera. It never used to be like this in iPhotos.
Searching for help on Mac OS help section does not bring any RAW file literature to refer to. Does this mean that this feature has been killed in Photos?
Using the name Photos to search for solutions is a big problem since this word is generic and results in unwanted results not specific to Mac OS. I have faced the same problem with programs like Pages and Numbers, the nouns pages and numbers are generic and always bring things nothing to do with Mac OS.
I prefer using programs designed for Mac by Apple to manage my files, this way it makes the handling easier. If there is someone who has a comprehensive manual that details all the features for Photos, I would appreciate it. Some good folks here helped me with manuals for Pages & Numbers.
On another note, I have a feeling that Photos is a stripped down version that was compromised to work across platforms.
Lastly I hope moderators will not delete my post, I have checked, there is no violation of rules here. I just want to be able to use a new program that comes with the Yosemite update.

I am running an update on the above post. I am not going to edit the initial post so that others can follow what has been happening.
    On the good side, I have figured out the following about Photos;
Images that are marked with a 'J' indicate that they have 2 formats (RAW & JPEG)
Images in Photos Mac OS X 10.0.3 will open JPEGs by default.
When you go into the Image tab, there is an option to keep the RAW as original. Selecting this option will toggle the format as shown below.
    4. The option to edit images using an external editor is no longer available in Photos. Basically there is no longer an advanced menu in Photos as shown by the images below;
    iPhotos Advanced Menu below

  • Not able to import .motn files into FCP

For some reason I'm not able to import .motn files into FCP. While in FCP, I use "send to motion" and uncheck the embed box. After motion opens and I add my motion content, I get the following error when trying to import the .motn file back into FCP "File Error: 1 files(s) recognized, 0 access denied, 1 unknown". What is strange is that I'm able to create another test FCP project with different media, and everything works fine. All tests and media are done on the same drive.
I'm using the latest updates of everything FCP 5.0.4 and motion 2.0.1
    Any ideas anybody?
    Thanks!

  • How do I merge new imported photos into an existing event?

How do I merge new imported photos into an existing event while using the latest version of iPhoto?

You can merge two Events simply by dragging one to the other.
You can move photos between Events by drag and drop or by first flagging them, then switching to Events View and selecting the target Event and going Events Menu -> Add Flagged Photos to selected Event.

  • Imported files identified as "Imported Limewire Files"???

My wife and I both own an iPod. We are both new users.
I recently imported files to my work laptop from original CD's into my home computer where the iTunes software for my wife's iPod is located. This was much faster than reloading the original CD's on her computer/iPod.
When the files were imported it identified them as imported Limeware files although the music originated from the original CD copy.
Short of reloading all the original CD's into her computer, how can I import the existing files from my computer without them being mislabeled?
I am also concerned that I will be charged for the imported songs since they have been mislabeled as "Limeware" files by the iTunes software?

That string just means that you have Limewire set on the computer to be the default application for reading / playing .mp3 files and that you imported the files from CD in iTunes as .mp3. Nothing is wrong with the ripped file that it has to be re-ripped. It does not affect how the songs are played by either iTunes or the iPod. iTunes does not charge you or report you, even if the files were downloaded from Limewire -- really, downloading is between you and your stained conscious.
If you want to set iTunes as the default application to play MP3, there's a way to do that in the iTunes preferences.

  • Import photos from Sprint Photo Mail?

Anyone found a way to successfully bulk-import photo files into iPhoto from Sprint's big Photo Mail service?
There are obvious ways to do it one-by-one, zip file by zip file, but there is apparently some obscure way to bulk-transfer photos (I have almost 3400 of them!) from Sprint's archive over to a personal computer. Anyone know how to do it?
From there I can import them into iPhoto. I'll even settle for a more indirect path using Sprint -> Flickr -> iPhoto or whatever sequence would work. Any insights or bright ideas will be appreciated!

that is not an iPhoto issue - once you have a folder of photos on your Mac you can import the entire folder at once - you need to contact the vendor of Sprint's big Photo Service to find out how to download photos in bulk easily

Since I've installed Mavericks I do have very long loadtimes for photo-files in Preview. While it was easy to browse through my pictures before it's now nearly impossible to work with. Does anybody have a solution for this problem?
While working Preview uses up to 700% of my CPU activity..

  • IPhoto stopped working while importing photos from iPhone

I am new to Mac OX and I just tried to load all my pictures in the iPhone to the Macbook Air by iPhoto.
There were some 4000 pictures in my iPhone.  During the import and while the blue bar go half way, the picture stopped skipping and the import seemed to stop itself.
I clicked "Stop Import" and then clicked "Keep Photos" in the prompt.  However, nothing happened.  The iPhoto just don't let me quit and prompted "Photos are being imported to the photo library.  Please wait for import to complete".
what should I do?  I just want to back up my photos.

  • Importing photos crashed & now froze, how do I "stop import" in iPhoto?

I connected my camera to the macbook and once all my photos displayed, I selected photos I wished to import, and clicked/dragged them into a new Album that I created. I have always done this in the past, but this time while the photos were being imported, it seemed to have 'freezed' in the middle of it.
The camera listed under Devices still appears as if its importing. When I click onto the "Stop Import" button a pop-up window appears, asking: "Do you want to delete or keep the photos imported so far?"
It allows me to choose between 3 options:
Continue importing, Keep photos, Delete photos.
I've tried all 3 options, however nothing seems to work. There were no photos imported into the album; nor will the device cancel the import. Now I can't get it to go away, even when my camera is disconnected from my laptop. furthermore, when I tried reconnecting my camera, it will show up as a second device (meanwhile it is the same camera) and when trying to import other photos from it, it won't allow it because iPhotos thinks it is still importing the photos from the initial try. Please help me fix this, thanks!

While I am not sure what is going on with iPhoto & why it seems to have
failed while you were attempting to import image files from a camera, the
thing to try and do now may be to repair disk in the computer. This can be
done in a variety of similar yet slightly different ways, using Disk Utility.
Presuming you are familiar with using Disk Utility from either/or the booted
OS X installer DVD (options menu in Installer's header, once started from
the disc while holding C key down.) - OR from the Disk Utility version in the
computer (see GO in Finder, go to Utilities folder in drop-down menu, and
choose Disk Utility and launch it) and when this utility is running, choose
the Macintosh HD from the left-side menu within it, and then select the
'repair disk permissions' from the choice of click-on buttons available.
One fair choice before doing the latter, in the above, would be to start
the computer while holding the Shift key down, and hold that down
until you see a login screen, after logging in (admin password) then go
and launch Disk Utility, and run 'repair disk permissions' then when done,
    quit Disk Utility and restart the computer. (Starting in SafeBoot, helps;
and running disk utility to repair permissions does a little more.)
Starting the computer with the Installer disc in the optical drive and the
C key held will start from the Installer; from the Installer's header, there
are options in drop-down menus, including Disk Utility. You can choose
to 'repair disk' or 'repair disk permissions' and 'verify' the disk. While
there, you could do all three. When done, quit Disk Utility and choose
to restart the computer using the Startup option in the Installer menu.
There may be something else going on in the computer, so to start with
what could be called 'general maintenance' may help; for more depth in
matters such as this, there are free-running utility interface tools that do
tasks in the OS X that should be done, one way or another. Instead of
doing some of these in Terminal or single-user modes, you can run one
of these utility tools to perform routine upkeep on the OS. The one I use
more often (maybe once every two or three months) is OnyX; it is free
and can be downloaded from Titanium Software online. In this, I use the
selection accessed in the Automation choice, and check-box all options.
(This can do many more things, so some effort should be taken to learn.)
If the computer's hard disk drive is getting too close to full, odd things
will happen to the system and whatever apps you run in it. Between
having sufficient installed chip RAM, and adequate unused space in
the computer's hard disk drive, these factors will affect performance
and the lack of working space in the hard drive can cause data loss.
Using Activity Monitor, you can tell the running status of the computer
and its OS, and the resources available to the configuration. You can
also identify the computer for the sake of discussion (precisely define)
by using the System Profiler; and note there are several kinds of info
disclosed in these two different processes.
Crashes and freezing events leave an activity log; there are several
kinds of logs available through the Console (utility) in its menu. The
logs of events can be relatively cryptic but sometimes they repeat a
message and in those, some do cite a cause or event. Date/time of
these is part of the logged event schedule.
If the hard disk drive is getting fuller than ideal, the computer can
freeze or apps can be slow to react to your interaction with the GUI.
So, to find out what else is going on in the computer system & apps,
will take some effort. There is cause & effect, and when things get
strange, symptoms can vary. Troubleshooting can take some effort.
Some kinds of crashes that do not take down the computer, are
different than those which obviously do; some are 'kernel panics'
and others are sometimes lesser events. There are times when
a lesser kernel event may affect the apps and OS; but they go
back to a cause. By providing some information on the status of
the computer's hard disk drive, used capacity verses unused, and
the amount of installed chip RAM, these may help tell a story.
So, there may be more than just the camera and iPhoto involved.
Sometimes, just by restarting the computer, a simple issue may
cease to be a problem; but by starting up as suggested previously,
you can initiate some basic repairs and maybe get that camera
issue to go away, at least for now. But more is going on to cause it.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Iphoto won't import photos and application won't stop working

Recently, when I have tried to import photos from my card reader the iphoto application appears to be working to locate the pictures but it freezes.  It won't respond to the "Quit" function, window won't close, can't eject my device.  The only way to stop the application is to shut down the computer.  I have over a 1000 pictures in iphoto and can open and manuever in iphoto as long as I don't try to import.  I am running the iPhoto 9.2.1, with the iphoto Library upgrader being 8.1      Any ideas to correct this problem?

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .
