Import photos into Organizer Photoshop 7

How can I import photos into Organizer from a Desktop folder in the same order that I have arranged and numbered them?

I can confirm that Barb's method also works in PSE 7.
Are you on Vista or XP?
Can you give an example of two files that are in the desired order on Windows Explorer but a different order in PSE?
Most likely, youre encountering a feature of Vista Windows Explorer. PSE sorts filenames in Folder Location view by the customary dictionary (lexicographic) order used by most applications. For example, the file p15.jpg will come before p2.jpg, because 1 comes before 2 in the dictionary. But Windows Explorer sorts p15.jpg
after ps2.jpg, because it uses a different rule for sorting filenames if filenames end in numbers, then it sorts files that all have the same leading prefix by the numeric value of that number, not by dictionary order.
If this is indeed your issue, there are several alternate approaches:
- Rename the files in Windows Explorer to have names of the form p002.jpg and p015.jpg (that is, the same number of trailing digits).
- Use PSE albums rather than Windows Explorer to create ordered collections of photos. Its very easy to rearrange the order of photos in albums, much easier than renaming in Windows Explorer. In general, if you want to use the PSE Organizer, then things will go easiest if you do all your file management within PSE and not try to use Windows Explorer.
- If you want your photos in order of date taken, use the PSEs Display > Thumbnail View to show them in date order. (Folder Location view shows in filename order, and albums show in the order you set.) Use Edit > Adjust Date And Time to change the date taken of any photos as necessary.

  • PSE 9 - Importing photos into Organizer

I have just upgraded from a previous version of PSE and none of my photos from the hard drive are in Organizer. Organizer only has a handful of photos - mainly I think from those recent shots which I have edited over in the Editor.
I have spent ages trying to find a way to import them and arrange for them to be automatically appearing in Organizer when I download future photos from my camera.
    Chris

On the top menu click File à Get Photos & Videos à From Files & Folders
Browse to Pictures or My Pictures; then click on the first folder and press Ctrl+A to select all.
Make sure “include sub folders” remains checked; then click Get media or Open.
Organizer will bring in all files automatically. Wait for it to make the links and generate thumbnails, select all suggested keywords and then you’re done.

  • Importing photos into PhotoShop Elements 9

Hi. Im very new to photoshop software. Any software for that matter
I have about 15000 photos in windows gallery that i initially imported into PSE. But since doing that, as PSE was soooo slow, i went back to windows gallery and cleaned up and organised my photos there, putting them in the correct sub folders, thinking they would automatically update in PSE. This doesnt seem to be the case. Can anyone assist me in how to import photos into PSE, and once they are imported, can i delete from windows gallery ? Oh and any otehr tips for a newbie is appreciated
    Thanks heaps!!

    Hi
Im sorry, but i dont completely understand your answer, although it was a little helpful.
The first sentence you advised to make sub folders in windows program.
Im pretty sure thats what ive done. But i thought it would automatically update to PSE. You mentioned it would not. Thankyou for that part.
I have cleared/re organised my windows picture folders and organised them into sub folders but when i went into PSE the old pic files and folders were showing there - except they advised no picture or data is available.
So this confuses me as there is too much files in PSE now and i cant seem to get rid of them.
The other concern is the new photos i have loaded into windows pictures program, how do i get them into PSE. This is really hard to explain in email., so i do apologise if i dont make sense or repeat myself.
But my main concern is if PSE doesnt update why does it keep old pic folders in the program if nothing is available.
i tried to uninstall and then reinstall and start teh program all over again with my newly organised windows folders but the old stuff remianed even though i uninstalled the program ????
    Thanks

  • Unable to import photos into iPhoto

    Hi,
I just finished scanning/digitizing quite a number of color positive film (slide) images into JPEG and TIF files, and now I'm finding to my dismay that a great number of these files won't import into iPhoto. All of these photos show up as thumbnail images on my desktop, and they open fine in other programs like Photoshop. But while some photo files import just fine, some others of them generate an error message (..."may be an unknown format"... or something to this effect) when I try importing them, whether it be dragging and dropping into iPhoto, or importing via the "add to library" command. I have also tried duplicating them in Photoshop using the "save as" command, but upon importing I still get the same error message. It is not possible at this time to rescan any of these slides, and I am desperate to get the images into iPhoto. What can I do to get these images into iPhoto?

OK! I figured out the problem (file this under the category "Nobody warned me not to do this before, --and everyone probably already knows this but me.":
It turns out that all of the photos in question I was trying to import into iPhoto had a period (as in the punctuation mark) somewhere in the middle of the title of the file, as opposed to at the end of the file, followed by the letters denoting the type of file it was. For example: Grandma.Feb1952
Photoshop had no trouble opening these files in question. But it seems iPhoto called each of these photos "unreadable", because it interpreted every letter in the title of the file following the period to be part of the file name. Makes a whole lotta sense, --until it collides with my own presumption that because other programs like photoshop can handle a period within a document title, so could iPhoto. Anyway, as soon as I fixed the titles, I was able to drag them from their home folder on the desktop (even though their titles, along with all of the other titles scanned with that blasted ArcSoft PhotoStudio program I made the mistake of using, still weren't "illuminated") directly into the iPhoto library window and do a successful import.
So, to sum it up: wrong way to write a title when creating a photo file: grandma.feb1956 right: grandmafeb1956.tif also right: grandmafeb1956
By the way, your suggestion for copying and pasting the offending photos into new photoshop documents also worked, and illuminated each of the file names I did this for. But it took extra time to do each. I suppose I could make the process faster if I took the time to learn how to automate such a task. But that's another subject, for another forum.
Thanks so much for helping me figure out what was wrong here. Cheers!

  • When importing photos into iPhoto I get an error Unreadable Files:

When importing photos into iPhoto I get an error Unreadable Files: The following files could not be imported (they may be an unrecognized file type or the files may not contain valid data).
I can open the JPG in question with PREVIEW, photoshop etc.. actually if I try to import a photo that I had originally imported it also fails..
    Please help... Thank you..

I too had this error message (and to be honest, it was becoming a bit of a pain). I resolved it in a slightly different way to Terence.
I had 10 photos that were allegedly unreadable; however, as Terence rightly says, they are duplicates. When I opened iPhoto I mad a note of each of the files concerned and did a Spotlight search throughout my hard drive.
For each photo, there were four or five duplicates. I deleted all but one of each of the photos and then reopened iPhoto. No more error message.
The original problem stemmed from importing my files directly from an external device I was using with a previous computer [that was running XP].
    Anyway, hope this helps.

I have been using Lightroom 5 for 2-3 months now and all worked well, up until today's effort to import a new set of photos. I am working on a Mac with Yosemite 10.10.1.

Go to the bibliothec module, select the folder, right click on the folder and hit synchronize
Sorry I have only a german version , so don't know what your menu will show.

  • Can't Seem to Get My Photos Into Organizer

I am feeling dumber than a clock!  I am new to PSE and have version 10.  My photos are organized by year and within a year by dates and events.  I cannot seem to bring those pictures into the Organizer.
I have succeeded in bringing a single photo into Organizer but would really like to bring in entire folders at a time.
    What am I doing wrong?

There's a learning curve to the software, for sure.  Don't hesitate to ask more questions.
When you have the Help open, look in the upper right corner for an icon that's labelled "View as PDF".  Click on it, and when the PDF finishes loading, you can save the PDF onto your computer.  The PDF is great because you can search for terms in it.  Note:  There are separate PDF Help files for the Organizer and the Editor.

  • I am getting the following error message when I try to import photos into iPhoto from my camera: "/private/var/folders/GB/GBl4wh8-ELqUVMI5dO-ryU   TI/-Tmp-/iPhoto/DSCF2033.JPG".  Have already tried removing and reinstalling iPhoto to no avail.

I am getting the following error message when I try to import photos into iPhoto from my camera: "/private/var/folders/GB/GBl4wh8-ELqUVMI5dO-ryU   TI/-Tmp-/iPhoto/DSCF2033.JPG".  Have already tried removing and reinstalling iPhoto to no avail.

Does this happen if you try to Import to Library within iPhoto, or is it when you connect your camera (and which is set to automatically use iPhoto) that this error message occurs?
If you open Image Capture > Preferences is iPhoto selected as the choice when a camera is connected?

I have moved my iPhoto to an external hard drive. so now I have to have the external hard drive connected to my laptop to view the photos.  Now when I want to import photos into iPhoto from my media card, I don't have room to connect both devices at the same time as the usb ports are side by side.  How do I import my photos from the media card to the external hard drive now?

First transfer the photos to a folder on your MacBook using Image Capture in your Utilities folder. Then move them to iPhoto.
BTW, you might want to invest in a cheap USB hub.

  • I just got a new Mac Mini, and now when I try to import photos into Lightroom, iPhoto try to load them first, then Lightroom can't find the files.  Big problem.  What to do?

I just got a new Mac Mini, and now when I try to import photos into Lightroom, iPhoto ties to load them first, then Lightroom can't find the files.  Big problem.  What to do?

    Simple:
File -> Export to get your photos out of the iPhoto Library. In the Export dialogue you can set the kind to Original and you'll get back exactly what you put in.
Apps like iPhoto2Disk or PhotoShare will help you export to a Folder tree matching your Events.
Once exported, you can then trash the iPhoto Library - just drag it from the Pictures Folder to the trash and empty it.
After that, if you're entirely neurotic about it, just put the iPhoto app in the trash and empty it.

  • Trying to import photos into Lightroom 5 isn't working

I am trying to import photos into my lightroom 5 catalog and it isn't working.  Done this MANY times before and this time nothing.  Tried importing directly from memory card and copying the files to the hard drive both just start the process and it never moves.  Even tried putting the files in the folder I was going to use and then selected to Sync the folder.  Lightroom recognized the 203 times in that folder...  but nothing.  Just sits there.
Using Lightroom on the Mac, importing JPG and a few AVI files.  Tried single JPG (that I could open in preview) but nothing...
    Any help would be appreciated!

Seems like this is related to specific files.  If I make a new folder with only certain files it works.  But seeming like it is more then a handful.  Really painful, because once it has the issue you need to close lightroom, then lightroom needs to be forced to quit... it doesn't close cleanly.....
All the images that cause the problem seem fine in any other viewer....

  • Can't import photos into iPhoto

I have a Sony DSC W5 digital camera. For five years I have been able to import photos from the Sony camera into iPhoto. In the last two days I can no longer import photos into iPhoto. I get an "unrecognizable file" prompt. I can drag the photo files onto the Finder and view them there. The photo on the Finder has a .jpg suffix just as all the other photos in iPhoto. Anybody got an idea on how to solve this problem? Thank you.

get the photos off of the card and reformat the card using the camera format command
Can you import the photos from disk once you have moved them from the camera to the disk? If not try opening one preview and saving as to create a new file and import that

  • I can not import photos into lightroom 4.4  Had no problem before this time.

I can not import photos into lightroom 4.4  Had no problem before this time.  I have camera raw7.4 and use a NikonD7100.  I have a Mac using 10.6.8.  I can see the images and selected for import in Lightroom, but after I check "import" I get a message that Lightroom could not read the files.  This happens with both raw and jpeg files.  Thanks for a repl

thanks for the reply. would you please tell me how to check for the folder to have write permission.  I have done the same settings as before but this time does not transfer.  It says can not read files with a code "298".  I can see the thumbnails on the screen prior to trying to import the photos, also can see them with the card in the camera and using the view mode.  I have up to date camera raw 7.4 for my Nikon D7100 and the settings allow for 7.1 and above

  • Trouble importing photos into Lightroom 3

I was no longer able to  import photos into Light room 3 so I removed everything to "My Pictures" to a folder named Light room Photos and uninstalled and reinstalled Light room, but when I try to import my photos back into Light room from that folder it "no photos found" which was why I tried this to begin with as whenever I tried to import from a memory card it came up with "no photos found.  Any ideas?@

I'm having the same problem as you.
Lightroom 5.2 has been running for a year and now it's just stops importing from my CF cards.
Is that the same problem, or a different problem?
    What is the error message?
I've got Permissions set to allow me to do anything so, that ain't the issue either.
This is often the first response and when we insist that we see screen captures of the Import dialog box and the permissions on the folder specified under "Destination", it turns out the permissions are not set properly.
So, we need to see screen captures of both your Import dialog box and the permissions on that exact folder specified under Destination

How do I merge new imported photos into an existing event while using the latest version of iPhoto?

You can merge two Events simply by dragging one to the other.
You can move photos between Events by drag and drop or by first flagging them, then switching to Events View and selecting the target Event and going Events Menu -> Add Flagged Photos to selected Event.
