Import PSE 3 catalog into PSE 13?

I have an old PSE 3 catalog (.psa file) that I need to open in PSE 13. I downloaded, installed, and ran Adobe's dedicated converter, per Adobe's instructions and obtained a "successful conversion" message upon completion. However, when I open the resulting catalog in PSE 13 thumbnails for the "first" images display, but when I attempt to scroll down, or "Ctrl End" to the end of the catalog (there are more than 12,000 images in the catalog), PSE 13 hangs and "stops responding". Of course, what I care about is the tags attached to the images, and used to sort them in PSE 3. How do I recover/preserve/access this tag info? or, how do I "fix" the, obviously failed, conversion so that I create a catalog from my original .psa file that PSE 13 can correctly open?

On the new computer, in PSE9, select File->Restore Catalog, and point it to the backup you made from PSE3. You will be given several options about restoring the photos, including one that is to original directory location.
More details are here: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/402/kb402894.html (which was written for PSE6, but applies to later versions of PSE as well)

  • Importing keyword database into PSE(

I have been using Corel Album for assigning keywords to my digital image collection. I am thinking of getting PSE9 but I am not sure if it can import the Corel keyword database? Appreciate any advice...

No there is no way to import the ixdb database into PSE.What you can try is attach all the keywords into a single image in corel and save the tags to file by writing tags to file through corel. Now if you import the same file in PSE, it will asks you to import all tags. This way tags can be imported.

  • Import Elements catalog into Lightroom

    Hi everybody,
I used PSE on my notebook for a couple of years now. As i bougth a new pc recently I want to upgrade to Photoshop CC / Lightroom. So here is my question:
Is it possible to import my elements catalog into Lightroom including my tags?
I still have got my copy of Elements 11 installed on my notebook, I´ve got a trial copy of PSE 13 on my new pc and already imported my catalog. I also installed Lightroom 5.6 on the pc.
I already looked on the internet but I only found one video which shows the solution I need but on Lightroom 3 and the function used in the video isn´t avalible in 5.6 any more.
If you need any more information please feel free to ask.

Roy, I am 99% certain that importing PSE 7 catalog to LR 2 is not possible at this time. The release cycles of the products did not coincide for that to happen. However you can import from PSE 6 I believe.
I feel sure that this will be addressed soon........... but don't know when.

  • Problems converting / importing PSE9 catalog into LR4

Im having problems converting / importing my PSE 9 photos into LR4.  I went through the "File / Upgrade PS..." without success.  It seems to work...ie LR4 closes down and then creates a new catalog but then a box appears saying that the photos could not be imported because they are missing or damaged.  I then thought that my PSE 9 catalog is not set up right BUT LR4 tell me that the 27023 photos could not be imported for the reason stated.  In other words LR does see the PSE catalog because it give the correct amount of photo's.  I then did a small test by dragging some photos from my PSE 9 into LR4 and that seems to work.  All the keyword tags move across. Is there a problem or dont I understand the process?

If I remember properly, it will not be an onerous task. What Exiftool will do is transfer the notes to some other metadata field that LR uses ... and I believe it can be done as a batch job, thus one execution of Exiftool does this for your entire photo collection (assuming its all under one parent folder).
Here is the method (see post #12 in this thread): http://forums.adobe.com/message/2148552#2148552

  • How do I Import PSE12 Catalog into Lightroom 4.4

New to Lightroom and I have version 4.4. I have Photoshop Elements 12 installed and I'm trying to import the catalog to Lightroom. I manage this quite easily with a trial version of Lightroom 5  but in 4.4 if I go to File/Import Photos and Videos or Import from another Catalog there is no option to import from the installed PSE12. So how do do it.

Albums will not transfer via this method of writing metadata to files, because album metadata is never written to files.
The only way to transfer albums is by converting them to keywords, as 99jon said, or by waiting until Adobe releases a new version of Lightroom that will properly convert PSE12 catalogs to Lightroom catalogs (and neither I nor anyone else here knows when that will be).
As a supplement to 99jon's advice, it is my opinion that you should organize via PSE tags (called keywords in Lightroom), and then you won't have this issue of transferring information from album names to keywords in PSE and then back to collection in Lightroom. Tags/keywords are written to the metadata when you inform PSE or Lightroom to do so, and so if you convert the PSE albums names to PSE tags you should just leave them as tags in the future, and leave the information as keywords in Lightroom in the future. In my opinion, there is zero benefit and considerable drawbacks (mainly your time) converting these to keywords to collections in Lightroom. And if you're going to leave these as keywords in Lightroom, then there's also zero benefit and considerable drawbacks to making the PSE tag name "Album New York", just make it "New York".

  • How to import complete catalog into another existing catalog

    Hi,
    Lightroom 2.2
    Win XP SP2
    3GB RAM
I have LR 2.2 installed with about 10000 images on my computer at home. I've been on holiday at my parents' and have downloaded & installed an evaluation version of LR 2.2 on their computer on which I created a new catalog. In the meantime I've imported and processed about 350 images on their computer.
Before going home I'd like to export the catalog with all photos, metadata, keywords, etc. onto a jump drive. Then, when I get home, I'd like to import all of these images & data into my existing catalog.
I've researched this a bit, and it seems to be a straight-forward operation if only the images and a certain subset of the metadata is to be imported. However, I'd like _everything_ to be imported. Anybody have experience doing this?
    Thanks,
    Jens

This will work perfectly. Just select all the images you want to transfer and under the file menu, select export as catalog. Be sure to check the option to export the negative files. I'd export this catalog onto the computer its on, and then copy the exported catalog to your jump drive - depending on the size of your originals and preview, the catalog might be quite large.
When you get home, I'd transfer the catalog from your jump drive onto your computer. Then start LR and under the File menu select import from catalog. It will ask where you want to put the negative (original) files, and then it will import them without a hitch. I've done this several times with never a problam.

  • Howcan I import tags from PSE 10 into PSE 12?

I've got the albums in PSE 12 but I have much organizational information in the PSE 10 Keyword tags and don't know how to import them.  Thanks in advance.  Phil Young

    Hi,
If you simply want the list of tags without any association to media, you can try this:
Go to PSE10 catalog,Click on the drop down available adjacent to + button in keyword tags and Select Save Keyword Tags to File
Specify the destination where you want the file to be saved.
Now come back to EO12, open the drop down list available with keyword tags and click on Import Keyword tags from file.
Choose the file you saved earlier and import it.
The tags should be imported now. But please note, assosciation with media will not be there.
If you want assosciation as well, you need to convert the catalog in PSE12.
    Thanks,
    Anwesha

  • Problem importing a catalog into CQ5 from Hybris

    Hello
I'd like to ask you guys for some help on CQ imports. CQ supports a number of different importers. The one I am dealing with is the Hybris Importer.
I already installed the Hybris embedded server and all relevant packages listed in the CQ docs (cq-5.5.0). I can log into Hybris and view/update the catalogs. However, when I attempt to import an existing catalog from a base Hybris site into CQ, the process fails:
    =======
       1. When I import into the "outdoors" site in CQ, the process starts OK, but then appears to copy only four items:

    A /etc/commerce/products/outdoors/outdoors/en/equipment/swimming/96392/96392.1-S/image

A /etc/commerce/products/outdoors/outdoors/en/equipment/swimming/96392/96392.2-S/image Catalog imported successfully in 9785 milliseconds
       2. When I import into a new site that does not have the same structure as the Geometrixx Outdoors site, I get
    A /etc/commerce/products/outdoors/outdoors/en

So, the questions I have are:
       1. Do I need to configure anything before the import?

       3. Any additional suggestions or pointers you may have regarding the import process.
Thanks in advance for your help.

  • Importing LR3 catalogs into LR4

What's the quickest way of creating new catalogs for LR4.  I have over 30 active cats for each client.

Probably via File> Open Catalog in LR4 Brian. You'll be prompted to upgrade the catalog. This moves the LR3 Previews to LR4 too.

  • Upgraded to PSE, catalog won't convert

Been using PSASE3.2 with no problems. Just downloaded and installed upgrade to PSE, installed no problems. Runs no problem, although catalog is empty - it didn't notice my current catalog iwth 13000 photos in it.
I followed the procedure on the KB and located my current PSASE catalog to convert. Conversion fails, complains that the catalog is corrupted and I should repair with the creating program. Unfortunately, PSASE does not appear to have this functionality. I saw an article on the KB that said I could hold down CTRL when starting PSASE and I would have an option to repair catalog but I don't get that option.
Any suggestions for how to get my PSASE catalog into PSE?

I have been through a similar hell over the past week, and I was finally able to workaround the issue.
Attempting to upgrade from PSA 2.0.1 to PSE6. When attempting to convert the catalog, it would always bail out at 26% and complain that it could not convert.
I tried a variety of approaches suggested by a variety of users, but no luck. Of course, PSA2 would always claim that its catalog was fine, so no help there.
Finally, this approach (very PAINFUL!) worked. In a nutshell, I recursively deleted half of the photos from the catalog until the PSE6 conversion succeeded. Specifics:
First, backup the PSA2.0 catalog (.psa file and associated folder containing cache) and mark it read-only to prevent accidental corruption. Just for extra safety, make another backup copy in a different directory.
Second, open PSA2. Unhide all of your hidden photos to make sure there are no hidden pics lurking about. Now, simply delete half of the photos from the catalog. Make a note of which range of items you deleted. Close PSA2.
Now, open PSE6 and attempt conversion. Conversion may succeed, as I discovered to my delight. If conversion succeeds, it means that one (or more) of the items you deleted was causing the problem. If it fails, the problem item is still in the catalog.
    Close PSE6.
If the conversion in PSE6 FAILED, assume that it will succeed with the other half of your catalog. So go back and attempt to delete the other half of the catalog and see if conversion succeeds.
Do this by restoring your original PSA2 catalog by deleting the current .psa and its folder and copying your backup copies into their place (ctrl + drag). You should still have your read-only backup copy in place!
Open PSA2. You should have your original catalog and photo inventory. Delete the half of the catalog that you did not delete the first time. Close PSA2, open PSE6, and attempt conversion. If it succeeds after having failed the first time, then you know that something in the half which was deleted was what was causing the failure.
Continue this process with smaller and smaller portions of the catalog. With luck, you can zero in on a small number of culprits (hopefully only one).
I spent about an hour doing this last night, went through about 12 iterations, and finally reduced the problem down to one of four possible photos causing the conversion issue. In the final step, I deleted these four photos from the catalog, successfully converted it in PSE6, and then just re-imported those four into PSE6.
When the conversion succeeds, all of my tags and collections came over to PSE6 OK. The PSA2 collections become albums in PSE6. I think I got lucky that only one or two files were preventing conversion; I hope there are no situations where many records are corrupted.
My ultimate goal in going to PSE6 is to use PSE6's ability to write your tags onto the jpg files themselves. Hopefully this will free us in the future from being shackled to PSE's proprietary database system, and allow us to import our tagged jpgs into any future photo-management application, just like we do with MP3 files. The metadata will be embedded in each file, where it belongs!

  • Import from catalog: what happens to this catalog ?

    Hello everyone!
I follow Scott Kelbys LR3 book for transferring my work from my studio laptop to my main processing computer in my office using the EXPORT TO CATALOG technique.
So then I transfer the folder to where I keep my LR pictures in MY  COMPUTER. Then I IMPORT AS Catalog into LR.
QUESTION: What happens to the LRcat and LRdata file I imported afterwards? Are they copied or otherwise incorporated into my MAIN LRcat or is it safe to DELETE the imported LRCAT  & LRDATA files because they are now part of the MAIN catalog?
I hope this is clear...   Thanks!

I'm almost certain you can delete the catalog you imported from. But to be sure, you could create an exported catalog with one image in it, import it into your main catalog, then delete the one you imported from and see what happens.

  • Import from catalog - Metadata

    Hi
I have exported a bunch of images as catalog on my desktop PC. On my laptop I import this catalog into an existing catalog.
So far, everything as expected. However, on all images that I have added this way I get a metadata warning. I have not set to write metadata to xmp on my laptop nor on the desktop. If I tell it to correct the issue, it writes an xmp.
To my understanding it should simply store the metadata to the catalog and not asking for writing an xmp if not set in the preferences.
    What did I miss?
    Thanks,
    McL
    btw: I am on 5.4 on Win7

If on the metadata warning badge the arrow is pointing down, then really there isn't an issue to correct. Because you don't automatically write XMP, then as soon as any metadata change is made to an image the metadata status becomes "Lightroom catalog metadata is newer than the original file", which is just what that badge is telling you.
For those users who have the autowrite to XMP option enabled in the Catalog settings, this warning should not be seen as the catalog and file metadata should always be in sync. For those users who do NOT have autowrite to XMP enabled. but who DO like to manually save the metadata via the Ctrl+S command, this metadata status indicator is a useful way for them to determine that metadata has been updated and they need to do that Ctrl+S.
For those users like me who never write XMP to their files, nor open their files in other programs outside Lightroom, that warning is redundant. Fortunately Lightroom allows us to disable that warning badge via the View Options menu, which is what I do.....
So perhaps you simply have the View Option set differently on the two systems?

  • Import PSE 3 catalog & images into PSE 9

    Hi
I have a new PC (Windows 7 64 bit), with the trial download of PE9 (and Premiere Elements 9) installed.  My old PC is Windows XP 32 bit with PSE3 (and Premiere Elements 1) installed.  The images are in "My Pictures" in the old XP PC, generally in date folders but with some folders with names not in the date sequence.   I have a full backup of my photo images made using Photoshop PSE3 backup onto an external hard drive.
To check that my camera is recognised by the new PC I first downloaded images from my camera onto the new PC, and these have automatically been fetched into the Organizer catalog.  I have not yet formed any albums, or done anything else in Organiser or Editor.
Now, how do I import the catalog (and images) created with PSE3 from the external hard drive into the new PC, so that the folders are in My Pictures in the same format?  I have looked in Help and in Forums and seen comments about importing and converting from earlier versions of PSE to PSE 9, but it's not clear to me how to do this - can you please advise?
I have also downloaded some short video clips from my camcorder using Premiers Elements 9 trial.  These clips appear in Organiser in the Albums pane under a heading of Video Projects.  Does Organiser automatically put all video clips (or video projects) into Organiser in "Video Projects", and can this be disabled or  customised at all?  It seems at first a bit odd to me that Video clips and Still images are all in the same pane.
Thanks in anticipation of your help.

On the new computer, in PSE9, select File->Restore Catalog, and point it to the backup you made from PSE3. You will be given several options about restoring the photos, including one that is to original directory location.
