Import Quark EPS

When I export an EPS from Quark 8 everything appears to work fine but when I  import to Photoshop CS2 it comes all jumbeled like the font isn't recongized. I  can import to Illustrator okay and then export as an EPS and into Photoshop that  way but didn't used to have to do that extra step. Something with a new computer  and Quark 8 (rather than 6) is causing the problem.
I did check, all fonts appear to be available. But that's what it looks like is subsitute fonts.
Any ideas?

If you are converting to final output as JPG, does it really matter whether you use PDF or EPS as a median step?
And if your target is JPG, why are you not using QuarkXPress' own ability to export JPG?

That makes no sense. The Marketing VP is uninformed or is grossly simplifying a topic for someone else who might be uninformed.
PDF and EPS are similar formats in that they can both contain vector & raster graphics, fonts, and various types of image compression. If "clarity is lost", the operator is making the PDF incorrectly.

It needs to be edited and exported as CYMK for print.
...and as this topic takes twists and turns with the added matter of JPG output, I have to go back to the core matter of opening Quark-generated vector EPS files in Photoshop: DON'T DO IT. It rasterizes the art and makes it lose clarity. What kind of editing of this EPS file could one possibly need to do in Photoshop?

  • Importing Illustrator eps files.

When I import Illustrator6 eps files into InDesign the graphics look incomplete, like they need to be re linked.  Why is this happening and how to fix?

Does it look incomplete on screen, in a printout or both? If you are viewing at View>Display Performance>Typical Display, try High Quality Display. That won't change what prints, but Typical is just showing you a low-resolution preview that is good enough for most placement needs, but not the best. It's really a trade-off between how good the image looks on screen, and how fast the screen can adjust to movement, so if you're scrolling/zooming/moving the image, it will go faster with Typical than with High.

  • Quark eps files crash PhotoShop CS2

I have an intermittent problem I have not had with previous versions of PS. When I open a Quark eps (rasterize) it will only open if there are no other PS files open. Otherwise, PS will crash or I will get a "not enough memory" message. Same file will open fine if there is no other PS file open at the time. I use these Quark eps files as a base for PS design so I can see where type will fall, and have been doing so all my design career. This is the first version of PS with this problem.

Can you save out a pdf instead and use that?
I remember having the same problem a long time ago with PS 6.0.1, but I don't remember the solution. Might have had something to do with a font. Zapf Dingbats perhaps.

  • Batch import of eps equations into indesign

Hi, I am Thangaraj Mohan, working as an layout artist. Now I am working on a Math book which has tones of equations in it. The whole text keyed in MS word, and the equations are typed inside using mathtype. I exported all equations using mathtype, mathtype exports all equations and replaces with its file name (ie. <<equ001>>) in MS word.
Now my problem is to how place these equations inside the InDesign document. Please help me with your ideas to import all eps files into InDesign as Batch import.
    Thanks a lot.

    hi
you don't need to export Equations as EPS file s- you can jest Copy and Paste or Place your document - all Equations will be imported as embeded graphics - with bad preview - but with Vector contents so they will print fine
if you really need to reimport EPS files - then you need macro to surround Equations with tags which then can be used by script to place EPS files
    from:
    9.1 a) ###  b) ###  c) ###  d) ###
    to:
    9.1 a) <EQ1<###>EQ1>  b) <EQ2<###>EQ2>  c) <EQ3<###>EQ3>  d)  <EQ4<###>EQ4>
but this will require that you will have only equations - no other images - or you will need to renumber-rename files

  • Importing Quark into Indesign cs3

I am importing a quark 4.1 file into indesign cs3 and it seems all the text frames I had tabs formated on didn't translate into indesign cs3 well. Specifically the last couple tabs were off making the text jump to the next line and moving other text over. Is there anything I could do to fix this isssue? I tried to export the text from quark to a word doc and then I tried to import that word doc into indesign and it still was messed up. Any suggestions?

My guess is that the tab settings are exactly the same as you had them
in Quark, but that the text is wrapping a little differently. Figure out
what's making the text a little bit longer in Indesign and fix that.
Conversions from Quark, or Pagemaker, or even from previous versions of
Indesign always involve some fixing up. For me, it's not worth
converting from Quark unless the document is being completely reworked.
Otherwise, I just leave it in Quark.

  • Import a .eps or .ai files into a Pages document?

Does anyone know of a way to import .eps or .ai files into a Pages document?

I tried it again with a new EPS file from the web and drag'n'drop worked fine.
After some testing, I suspect that Pages doesn't like encapsulated postscript files that don't have a preview inside, or perhaps old embedded fonts are related;  I honestly don't parse EPS that well, in my head. I hope the preview thing isn't true as that's kinda anti-EPS, but I'll likely not dig further in this case.
Full disclosure;  the header did have some random garbage in front of the file, but it didn't seem to be interpreted <≈–”∆ {πôπX ˇˇ%!PS-Adobe-3.0 EPSF-3.0>
So, it seems I was wrong with my discrete example and it's as easy as drag and drop, if everything is up to date for flookoco.

  • Unable to import/open EPS file in Elements 12

I have installed the trial version of Elements 12 as we are looking at purchase for a client who needs a simple and inexpensive program to look at EPS files and save them as JPGs. Elements 12 says that an EPS file can be 'imported' as a supported file type, however when I click on File -> Import, it comes up with WIA Support, then when I click on that and select the EPS file, it says "No WIA compatible devices were detected. Check that your device is plugged in to the computer and the power is turned on".
I have searched the internet and can't find anything to help, and the help files just direct to the forums. I have seen an article on how to import into Elements 11, but the options are not available in 12 (probably due to the fact that 12 is supposed to natively import the format). As I understand the trial is a fully-functioning package with no options turned off until purchase.
    Any help would be appreciated.

You can get the Open as dialog in pse 12 on windows with this action
    Open As.atn
    https://workspaces.acrobat.com/?d=d7X1rXdE11yH0YHzrj7wog
Unzip the download and load the action into the actions panel (Window>Actions) in the pse 12 editor in the Expert mode
and that should give the Open as dialog and then click on your eps and choose Tiff from the dropdown menu.
Just be aware that this workaround, as far as i know, only opens an eps file that has a tiff preview saved with it
and then it only opens the tiff preview and not the full resolution eps.

  • How do I import an EPS file for a Barcode?

I made a book but want to add a Barcode. The barciode company made one for me in EPS file format. Can I just drag that in? It seems to automatically into a PDF file when I do that, which seems strange??
    Thanks

    .eps is a dead format.
There are 3 useful vector formats now.
.ai (with .pdf preview) for complex vectors with blends.
    .pdf for flat color vector
.svg for the web (unfortunately Apple has lousy support for this).

  • Import Quark 6 files into InDesign CS3?

I'm looking to import my old QuarkExpress 6 files into Indesign CS3. I saw that there is a plug in for about $199 that would allow Indesign to import these files. Is that the only way, or is there a cheaper way to make this happen?

This is not a design question. Please ask in the ID forum.

  • Importing Vector/eps art - Adobe Illustrator

Is it possible to import vector art into an iPhoto book?
I designed some logos and want to include them in my Folio book. I know the vector art would print better than raster art (jpegs or tifs).
I would think it's possible because the text boxes are vector art.
    Thanks,
    Steffon

    Steffon:
iPhoto does not support vector art. You'll have to convert it to a jpg, tiff or other image file that iPhoto supports.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.

  • Illustrator breaks text at a point when importing from an EPS file?

I am importing an EPS file from a statistical software. All text strings that belong together are in brackets ( ), so the EPS file is OK. When AI creates the chart it happens that the last glyph is a new and independent text string (text at a point).
Is it possible to force AI to respect the structure of the EPS file.
    Thanks,
    Daniel

    No.
You can only fix it afterwards.

  • Import eps created in inkscape (cairo)

    Hello,
I have an eps created in Inkscape. I have the following issue: Illustrator opens it without an error, but it rasterizes the gradient. It is a non transparent gradient, from red to blue, a bit oblique. Weirdly, the eps is opened back fine in Inkscape, as a full editable gradient. But in Inkscape is opened as image raster all of the gradient shape. Any idea what happens?

Illustrator imports it 1 to 1 for the appearance, just it creates an image as rectangular gradient.
So it sees very well the data. Also, there is no raster in Inkscape's eps.
    IMHO, Illustrator does something incorrect.

  • Importing EPS to PDF with Ghostscript looses the grouping

    Hi,
I used Ghostscript to import a EPS to a PDF file and the grouping EPS file has seem to be loosing while generating the PDF. Can someone let me know whether the grouping can be retrained? I would like to know whether the "grouping" "ungrouping" is a specific feature in Illustrator which can't be retrained.
The following are the links to the EPS and PDF file for your reference.
    Dropbox - survivor book.eps
    Dropbox - survivor_book.pdf
If the grouping can indeed be retained while converting with Ghostscript, please let me know how to do the same.
Or if there are other ways to convert to PDF using which the grouping can be retained, let me know the same too.
    Thanks,
    Leena

Sorry for the confusion, I will explain more about the relation between Illustrator and Ghostscript. I am working on a web application which allows the users to create designs which can be used for custom printing. The application allows the user to upload EPS files as artworks, add custom text etc and in the end the generates a PDF which will be shared with the printer.
We are using Ghostscript for importing the EPS files and creating the final PDF file which includes the uploaded artwork(s) and any text(s) the user has added.
Now the problem that we've faced while importing the EPS file using Ghostscript is that, it removes the "grouping" that was present in the EPS file while converting to the PDF file. So my question was whether you can help me by giving some pointers to retain the group by using tools such as Ghostscript. Please let me know the appropriate forum where I can ask similar questions.
I had asked this question in Ghostscript forum but didn't get a clear answer.
    Thanks,
    Leena

  • How can CS2 not recognize spot colours in an imported .eps file?

    Hello
I am using InDesign 4.05 on OSX10.4.11. I have been using InDesign since 1.52 and have always regarded the program as exceptionally bug-free apart from lately as I use CS2 more and more. I am reluctant to upgrade to CS3 just yet.
I am pretty sure I have never seen this behaviour before. If I import an eps of a logo which only consists of two spot colours, the colours are added to the swatches but show as CMYK. Of course if I preflight it then wrongly shows that the doc is CMYK only. If I then create a PDF and then check the PDF in seps view in Acrobat, the colours are showing as CMYK???? I have checked and rechecked the logo with the spot colours in it in Illustrator CS. They are 100% definitely showing as spot. If someone else told me this I would not have believed them - please tell me I am not going mad. What could cause this?
ps. I have another piece of extremely odd behaviour too, which I will do as a separate post.

    propage,
I have no trouble at all placing that EPS in CS2. Both spot colours show up.
I distilled it and checked in Acrobat, too.
The only problem is that the lower right yellow bit is *not* a spot colour in Ai.
The detail that the colour names are added to the swatches when you import the EPS indicates that the spots are in there.
That leaves only the conclusion that something is wrong woth your Id document e.g. there are process-swatches of the same name before you place the eps.
    >I take it I should abandon eps and move to ai?
Buko would certainly and definitely say so. That's why I quoted him ;)
Most of the rest of us think there are special workflows where working with eps still makes sense but the are rather few and when only Ai and Id are involved Ai is almost always the better choice.
