Import QuickTime file to iMovie 9= nothing

Suddenly, iMovie 9.01 would not recognise my latest Sony recording, perhaps because it was recorded in HD. Previous efforts have gone smoothly, I do not know if the previous recordings were recorded in HD or SD.
So, it was imported to a newer MacBook, then transfered to the MacPro desktop as a Quicktime file, 8.52 GB.
By selecting 'import movie', it seemed to import into iMovie '09.
However, after importing, nothing is visible- there are no clips or video shown, only the file title and a message where the video clips should be:
'No matching video. Choose a diferent option from the Show pop-up menu at the lower left corner.'
There are four choices given in the Show pop-up menu: Favorites only, Favorites and unmarked, All clips, and Rejected only.
Selecting any of these four choices has no effect.
How do I import a Quicktime file into iMovie?
Thank you in advance, Isshi.

I have the same problem and read your response and cannot make any sense of it.
What is the "apps area of itunes"?
How about this? For some unknown reason, Apple requires your audio clips to be in itunes first , which is ridiculous.
And when you put them in, imovie won't recognize them. That is just bad design all the way around. Mine are in mp3 and something called m3a, and neither is recognized by this terribly designed program

  • Importing quicktime file into iMovie 11 resulting in distortion

After having trouble importing Quicktime files into iMovie hd6, I decided to buy iMovie 11. So the file imports without squishing the image into 4:3 as it did in iMovie hd6, but now the movie has a strange strobe like flashing that is not present in the original.
    Any ideas?

See if you can open the file in QuickTIme PLayer. Click Command-I (or WINDOW/INSPECTOR) in QuickTime Player. Tell us what is listed by the word FORMAT:

  • Importing quicktime files into iMovie

I am trying to find anyway to import any quicktime file into iMovie and have this look good. I have tried all different compressions and still no luck. I am trying to export a Keynote presentation out to a quicktime file and then send to iMovie to mix with audio.
Does anyone have any idea how to accomplish this with iMovie or any other tool?

iM is a DV-editor, meant to import lossless via firewire from miniDV device by using the same codec, 'dv' ...
ANY other codec needs a conversion = loss of quality
plus, it is meant for TV delivery (small resolution, interlacing) .. 'computer' pics&video never look as good as on a Mac, done with iM... judge pic quality only on a TV.
best practise would be: create Keynote project as close as possible to NTSC (640x480); export each single 'chart' as pic/tiff, and import them into iM ...

  • Importing 16:9 quicktime file into iMovie HD6

I'm trying to import .mov files int iMovie to edit them. The Quicktime file is widescreen, but when I import it into iMovie, iMovie seems to import it in 4:3 - so the image is distorted. I've tried all the different import options ie: dv widescreen, MPEG 4 etc. Anyone got an explanation?
    Thanks.

    Hi
This is how I solved that problem with DV widescreen in imovie 06
    1. Start a new project as DV widescreen let´s call it TEST
    Import 1 clip.
That clip will be in 4.3 as you have noticed, (but forget about that for now.)
    Save and close iMovie.
    2. Go to the folder where you 16:9 files are and copy the files you want to import to iMovie.
Go to where you saved you imovie TEST project and right click on the project and got to "show package content"
In that folder you will se 3 folders and one is called "MEDIA", open that folder (and there you will see you imported clip) and paste you 16:9 clip in that folder and close the folder.
3 Start you iMovie TEST project and now iMovie will tell you that it found soma files in the trash and asks you if you want iMovie to show you those files say YES.
Now you will see your imported 16:9 files in the trash,
Drag those files to the clips pane and save you project.
4 Now you files should be correct in iMovie 06
    Cheers

  • When importing a Quicktime file into iMovie the audio is inconsistently synchronised with the video. Any ideas?

I record using Quicktime and the built in webcam on my MacBook Pro. When importing the file to iMovie the audio is inconsistent in its syncronisation with the video. Any ideas?

This is probably caused by the internal webcam on Apple devices being optimized for FaceTime rather than for movie making. In FaceTime, the goal is to transmit the information using a little bandwidth as possible, so the video will be recorded at a variable frame rate. The frame rate will get low if you are still, and will speed up if there is a lot of motion.
To fix, I would suggest that you use a free app like MPEG Streamclip. Drag the clip into MPEG Streamclip and export it out at a constant framerate.
If it is an HD movie, I suggest exporting it from MPEG Streamclip using FILE/EXPORT TO QUICKTIME. Choose Apple Intermediate Codec as your video compression. For sound, choose uncompressed 48khz. That should work, but I can't test it right now. If MPEG Streamclip does not work for you, let me know and I can recommend another free tool.

  • Importing quicktime videos into imovie

Can you please tell me how to import quicktime movies into imovie 7.1.4. I have quicktime pro.
Also, is it possible to adjust exposures in quicktime pro?

I'm afraid it doesn't work. At least I don't succeed dong it with Imovie 08
Nothing happens when you drag the Quicktime file in the Imovie project window or on the Imovie icon in the dock…
Then I import my quicktime.mov in my Iphoto library. No problem
But how can you force Imovie 08 to actualize the "vignettes" (in french) of Iphoto.
Then you would see it in the Iphoto videos and then just easy.
It does it from time to time, but you don't control it.
Would it be better via Itunes ?
Well, It was easy with Imovie HD
Then you can say : import it in ImovieHD then import The HD movie in Imovie 08. Very poor result !
There must a more Apple way to do it !

  • I am trying to convert a standard definition AVI file 720x576 widescreen file into a full sized Quicktime file in imovie but having cropping issues

    Hi
I am trying to convert a standard definition AVI file 720x576 (16:9)  file into a full sized Quicktime file in imovie 11. When importing the file I get two options either import as large 960 x540 or full original size. So I choose full original size but when I drag this imported clip to my timeline the bottom of the clip has been cut off? I tried to export it as a quicktime file thinking that perhaps it might resize to the original size but of course that was wishful thinking
    Any ideas appreciated?

Hi No I have just checked its definitely a PAL 16;9 project. I am also slightly confused because when importing the video into the project it has squashed it into 4:3 format even though my file is 16:9?

  • Import .VOB files into iMovie?

I have copied footage from my camera (don't have that tapes anymore!) to a DVD. Now I want to import the files into iMovie to edit and so but iMovie doesn't recognize the file-formats on my DVD: .VOB
Can anyone tell me how I can convert these files so I can import them?
    Thank you very much...

Ok I was right, the stretching is coming from importing it directly into imovies folder. Unfortunately when I drag the dv file into imovies the quality was not as good as HB.
Now trying the crop method directly into imovies to see if that fixes the stretching as the picture quality seemed much better, if that don't work I'll save it to my desktop using HB at 100% quality as that seems to be the best and then drag it into imovies quality.
How, if it was you, would you convert the files back to mpeg2? Is there a free converter as I don't have QT pro? Will SC do it in good quality?
I also thought (hate to use the pc word) but I may store the file in my external hard drive as a quicktime or divx or another format (what will give me the best quality from the other formats) and then do the conversion to mpeg2. Then use something like dvdshrink to make the file dvd size
Gees what a bummer man! Just as well I have 2 weeks off work. Not quite the way I was hoping to spend it though!

  • Importing a file into iMovie

    Hi All,
I am trying to import a file into imovie and it imports with the sound. The file was originally a MUXED file, than I used bbDemux which created 2 seperate files (video & audio) for me. I than brought them back into quicktime pro, combined them and save them as a .MOV file. The file is no longer muxxed but the sound is still missing when I import into iMovie. Any suggestions... Do I need to compress this file, and if so... How?

The file was originally a MUXED file, than I used bbDemux which created 2 seperate files (video & audio) for me.
What are the audio and video formats at this point? (I.e., did you simply demux the data or perform any sort of conversion as part of the process?)
I than brought them back into quicktime pro, combined them and save them as a .MOV file.
Are you using "Paste" or "Add" to combine the two tracks at this point? (I.e., if the files were demuxed and converted to a QT format, are you merging them sequentially or symchronized "frame-to-frame" here? If not performing any conversion as part of the demux process, switch to an application/utility like MPEG Streamclip that does both as a seamless process that produces an iMovie compatible file in a single step.

  • Cannot import mp4 files to iMovie anymore

A few weeks ago I was able to import mp4 files to iMovie. I've encoded the files with Handbrake first.
But now, I've downloaded a mp4 file (and then to be sure encoded this one too) but can't import it in iMovie.
How is this possible? They are all in the same mp4 format, but my last one doesn't work. It won't even play in Quicktime..
In the image below, you can see that the upper file can't be selected while trying to import it into iMovie.

    Hi Misstarretje,
Have you read this article about how to import all kinds of mp4 files to iMovie ?

  • After I import a movie file from the camera memory card, Imovie 10.0.1 acts as if the memory card is empty though I know it isn't.... I can't import that file to iMovie again.. is that the way it worksnow?  Thank you, Filippo

On IMac 10.9  After I import a movie file from the camera memory card to Imovie 10.0.1 it acts as if the memory card is empty though I know it isn't.... I can't import that file to iMovie again.. is that the way it works now?  Anyone know?  Thanks, Filippo

I would like to know this too. I imported a lot of files, then Imovie crashed. I went back in and they are not in imovie at all.
I reconnected the camcorder to import again and though they are still on the camcorder, I no longer see them in the available list of files to import. I'm sure there is some sort of simple setting somewhere that reveals all files even if it thinks they are imported.
    Thanks

  • Importing mov files into iMovie events

    Hi
This is my first post ever on this site. Here goes!
I am new to iMovie, but have had someone more experienced trying to help but to no avail!
I am trying to import mov files into iMovie Events. However in the file menu there is no "events' option, so I chose 'Import Movies'. But ultimately when I click on the mov files they are greyed out.
The version of iMovie I have is iMovie '08 - 7.1.4
When I first opened iMovie it offered to update to the latest version, but in the end it said 'No updates available'. When I looked into this in the Apple Store, it said you need Mac OSX 10.7 or above to get the latest version. My Mac is 10.6.8, so won't support the latest version. However, can I not still use the version I have? What is wrong here?
Any help much appreciated - thanks.
    Ermina.

If you don't get an answer here, you might want to post your question in the iMovie discussion here.

Hi Appleman - thanks for your guidance.
OK RealTime Inspector: Dimensions of my clips - as I don't know which bit this is I will list everything under Inspector, including Format:
    00117
    00117
    33.30
    Format:MPEG-4 Video, 1280 x 720 millions
    AAC, 2channels, 44100Hz
    FPS29.97
    Data Size2.57GB
    Data Rate 10.20 Mbits/s
    Current size 1280 x 720 pixels (Actual)
And re the types of tracks you mention that iMovie '08 can't import, I don't much about film clips so haven't yet made sense of this, tho I do see that the clips are organised into chapters, so presumably this is 'chapter tracks'?
Thanks - I'll await your further instructions :-)
