Import RAW images to Pictures file instead of iphoto

I am trying to import my RAW image files onto my MacBookPro, but they go directly into iphoto and only display as small file JPGs. How can I get them to import into a Pictures file or Desktop?

Not sure if this is what you're looking for but lets see if I cannot give you some idea.
If you got to \User\yourname\Pictures\iPhoto Library\ Right click iPhoto Library and select Show Package Contents.
In there, you will probably see 2 folders titled "Modified" and "Original"
In those folders, you will see your pictures categorized into Years.
Good luck. Hope thats what you were looking for.

I'm trying to import RAW images into iPhoto from my Fugifilm X-T1 camera. I get a message saying the "file cannot be recognized". Any ideas ?

Not necessarily.  Some  "glitches" were experienced by a significant number of users but not all of us, like the WiFi problem.  Those that experienced these issues did have a miserable time of it trying to get things right.  Personally I had no issues.  I did, however, boot into the Recovery volume after installing Yosemite and after each update to repair disk permissions and the disk.  There were a lot of permissions repaired each time.
Remember millions have upgraded to Yosemite and the number of those having problems is probably a very, very small percentage of them.  That doesn't negate the problems they're having but sometimes overshadows the large percentage of those not having problems.
If you plan on upgrading to Yosemite do not run any "cleaning" or "optimizing" applications on your Mac or have any anti virus software installed.  Neither are necessary and are know to do more harm that good.

  • Can't import raw images

I want to import RAW images. Have always been able to import JPEG's to iPhoto.
    Reformatted memory card. Took picture.
    Picture appears visible on playback.
When I import, iPhoto says the image is unreadable.
    What to do?

Preview - in your applications folder
A good general step for strange issues is to renew the iPhoto preference file - quit iPhoto and go to "your user name" ==> library ==> preferences ==> com.apple.iPhoto.plist and trash it - launch iPhoto which creates a fresh new default preference file and reset any personal preferences you have changed and if you have moved the iPhoto library repoint to it. This may help
This does not affect your photos or any database information (keywords, faces, places, ratings, etc) in any way - they are stored in the iPhoto library - the iPhoto preference file simply controls how iPhoto works - which is why renewing it is a good first step.

  • Importing RAW images into iPhoto5

I'm trying to import RAW images taken by my Canon Powershot S45. It says it's an invalid file type or invalid data. However, if I use the Image Capture application, the pictures come out okay. Of course, I can't import those images to iPhoto.
Is there a way to get around this problem?

    clearlynuts:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. According to the iPhoto camera support page the S45 is not supported. You might do a search in this forum for S45 or Powershot S45 to see if you get any hits. It may be new and supported and you're just having a problem particular to you.

  • Importing RAW images from Canon 450D SLR

I run iPhoto 6 and I have recently updated my digital SLR from a Canon 300D to a 450D. I was able to import CRW Raw files from the 300D but iPhoto will not import Raw images from the 450D (jpegs are ok), which are now coded CR2 instead of CRW. I note that there is a Raw image software update, available but this is only for iPhoto 8. Short of updating to iPhoto 8 is there another solution?

I was afraid that might be the answer, but many thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

  • Import raw images from canon eos 1000d to aperture 3

Raw images from Canon EOS 1000D appear garbled tried using  all (?) import methods without success. Camera on firmware version 1.0.7
    HELP!
    Geoff

Running Aperture Trial 3.1.2  all updates completed.
May have solved one problem & got another!
I can now import RAW images by selecting 'Raw' rather than 'Raw + L' on camera menu. This leaves me with all large files - potential future storage problem.  Looking into this.
    Thanks for reply though

  • Trouble Importing Raw Images from my Mac. Help?

Hello! I have a Mac and I was trying to import my raw images on to Lightroom 5. When I select the folder I want to import they all show up but it will not let me select or check any of the images. Is this happening because they are raw images? I imported raw images before and never had this problem. So I tried importing it again straight from my flash drive instead of the folder but it does not let me select any of the images either. I'm on a deadline and I need to import these photos asap. Please let me know what options I can try to fix this. Thanks in advance!

When I select the folder I want to import they all show up but it will not let me select or check any of the images.
This is because these photos have previously been imported into Lightroom, and thus by default cannot be imported a second time. In fact, it is not a good idea to import photos a second time, and completely unnecessary. What you should do is find the photos in the Library Module and then work with the photos that you have just found that have been previously imported.

  • Importing RAW images on Yosemite from Nikon D3200

From the time i have upgraded to Yosemite, importing RAW images from the Nikon D3200 has come very difficult. The images come black and or pixelated and it then hangs the computer. I have to restart the mac, and then click on each 'black' image and click edit. I have update the Digital Camera RAW compatibility update to the latest but that has not solved the issue.

Either upgrade to Lr 4.x, or convert your D600 files to DNG, which Lr 3 can process.

  • Import RAW images from Sony A100 DSLR?

iPhoto 6 does not import RAW images taken with my Sony A100 DSLR. I can view the images with preview, so apparently Mac OS X knows how to handle them. But, iPhoto just says there are no pictures to import.
I installed the Aperture trial, and it handled the RAW images, as does the Adobe Lightroom beta4. But, not iPhoto6.
I am running all the latest patches, with 10.4.8 on a MacBook Pro.
Does RAW work for anyone else with this camera? Any suggestions for workarounds?

I messed around with this a bit more and found that if I manually import the RAW images, it works fine. But, iPhoto still does not recognize new pictures and import them automatically.
I can also see them in Finder and Preview, so I know the OS support is up to date. Also, I tried it on my Mac Mini, and the mini recognized the raw pictures and imported them as I would expect.
The RAW updater only mentions Canon, Nikon, and Pentax as being addressed. I did install it, but it may not be necessary.
This article on Apple's site: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303554
says you need 10.4.8 to support Sony RAW pictures.

  • Importing RAW images into iPhoto

Hi there, I have a macbook with snow leopard running iPhoto 08 and it won't import RAW images from my new Canon T5i. Gets unrecognizable file format error. The T5i is on the Apple list of supported cameras for RAW imports and iPhoto 08 supports RAW (and I checked the RAW box in preferences). Any ideas? thanks!

thanks so much, i spent hours trying to get an answer and this was my last shot! appreciate

  • Imported RAW images are too dark

I'm using Aperture2.0.1 and importing RAW images from a Canon 1D MkIII. All the images are coming in significantly darker than they show in the camera's display. The camera's histogram shows that the images are correctly exposed but they require boosting in Aperture's Exposure panel of anywhere from + 1.15 to 1.5 before they look right in Aperture. That's quite a hefty shift. I get a similar situation in Capture One Pro but the same images right off the card look bang on in Canon's Digital Photo Professional. In Adobe Lightroom it takes a shift of only +.5 to get into the right range. The exposure settings for the test were done with a Sekonic L-758DR meter and manually setting 3 580EX's but the problem shows up in all kinds of garden variety shots with or without flash. My preferred app is Aperture but I'm sick of having to adjust all my shots to get them into range.
Is there something I'm missing here?
    Thanks,
    Geoff

AMAZING!! Thanks for solving this mystery for me. Disabled the Highlight Priority and the shot comes into aperture looking like I it needs no adjustment. There are some clipped peaks in the histogram so there are some minor blown highlights. If I use Highlight Priority, it prevents the clipping and when I adjust the exposure level in Aperture the shot does look right without losing the highlight so Highlight Priority may be the right way to go when I'm shooting jewelry. But your post explains why the images were darkened.
    Thanks again,
    Geoff

  • Why can't I import raw images from camera to lightroom 5.7.1?

You can visit the Lightroom Journal to see the new features of LR6/CC, including new cameras supported in this release:

And yes, as DJ confirmed, the Nikon D7200 is listed.

  • How do I import RAW images from Sony NEX 5-R to iPhoto?

I have Mountain Lion 10.8.2 and iPhoto 9.4.2 and have installed Digital Camera RAW compatability update 4.01 but still can't import RAW images from my new Sony NEX 5-R digital camera.. any ideas? I also have Photoshop CS6 - should I import through that if iPhoto isn't a feasible option..?

This is the list of currently supported cameras
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5371?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
The Nex5-R is not on the List and so that Raw format is not supported at this time.
Note: The Raw from every model of camera is different. Note: that's every model not every brand. So, the NEF produced by a Nikon D40 is not the same as the NEF produced by a D60, the CR2 produced by a Canon 350 is not the same as the CR2 produced by a Canon 400.
Therefore the Raw for every camera model needs to be added individually. If yours is not supported then let them know you want it:

  • I cannot import RAW images from my Nikon Df.

    Hello,
I have a late '11 Macbook Pro that currently has OSX 10.7.5 and iPhoto version 9.2.1  and for some reason I cannot import RAW images from my Nikon Df memory card.
I don't know if I have something wrong in my settings or if my current iPhoto and/or OSX needs to be upgraded.  Is there anyone here that would be so kind to help this technically challenged old man and tell me what I need to do?
    Many thanks!

You'll need OS 10.9 Mavericks and Camera Raw update 5.0.2 and Aperture version 3.4.5 or later, or iPhoto version 9.4.3 or later, is required to install this update.
The good news is that all those updates are free as you have 10.7.
As always, back up all data before upgrading anything.

Apple have just included RAW support for the Olympus E-PL1 with the Digital Camera Raw Compatibility Update 3.3 - iPhoto can now import RAW files from the E-PL1.
