Import RAW settings to photo

Hello
The new photo app seems good enough for me to try and import my lightroom library to. But there's a problem:
All my pictures are RAW, and I want them to stay that way. I've tried to import the pictures with and without the .xmp file with no luck.
I found something in the help section that said I should press the "rework RAW" (or whatever it's called in english), just below "return to original" when you right click the image in edit view. But the button is greyed out. And even if it would work it only works on one picture at a time, which is in no way fast enough.
So my question is:
Is it possible to easily import my RAW pictures from lightroom to photo, with all the changes I've made?

I find it difficult to believe that you will find Photos to be sufficient after using Lightroom. The capabilities are miles apart.
Anyway: No it's not. Photos will export IPTC metadata with Masters but it will not import XMP. Not could it, your XMP file will refer to tools and settings simply not available in Photos.

  • Import raw nikon d7000 photos?

    Hi,
I'm running iPhoto 11 version 9.1.5 (most current version) and Lion, and am trying to import images from the SDHC card from a Nikon D7000 camera. It's not working; I get this error "The following file could not be imported. The file is in an unrecognized format".
From elsewhere in these forums and Apple's documentation, it appears that the D7000 is supported by iPhoto. What am I doing wrong?
    Thanks.

    Yes it should work.
    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

  • Importing raw into photos for mac

trying to get to grips with photos now aperture scrapped

<<There doesn't seem to be any facility for this>>
This is basically correct.  You can import RAW files to photos, but the standard RAW filter will be applied and you can only edit the image with the included, simple-minded Photos editor.  You can chose in the editor whether to use the JPG or RAW file as the master, but it's unclear which file is exported or shared when you try to send it somewhere else.  Sometimes it works but other times the exported image looks like the original unedited JPG.  I've sort of abandoned shooting in RAW for the moment unless I'm in a situation where I know I will need to do RAW editing in Photoshop.  At minimum there seems to point in importing the RAW file into Photos as it just makes the library bigger without any appreciable benefit, so if I do shoot in JPG/RAW, I just import the JPG files to Photos and edit the RAW files with Photoshop from the Finder folders.
You can make suggestions to Apple for product enhancements at the Photos for Mac suspport site.  We'll see if Apple listens to the users or continues to try to support only the lowest common denominator casual photographers.

  • When importing raw photos from Nikon D90 aperture seems to automatically adjust exposure darker. why? How can I stop this?

When importing raw photos from Nikon D90 aperture seems to automatically adjust exposure darker. why? How can I stop this?

This is typical of the default NEF RAW conversion of Aperture and the best thing you can do is set up a few presets to apply to all of your RAW images to get a tone curve and colors that is pleasing to you as a default. The in camera JPEGs / embedded JPEGs (that you first see during import) are treated to the Nikon "Picture Control" settings that are set on the camera - the RAW's as interpreted by Aperture are not.
I have written extensively and even have a few downloadable presets on my site - look for NEF...

  • Import our apply RAW settings (like VRD files) from other programs in Lightroom

I worked with the Canon Photo Professional program to convert my RAW's. But now I shifted to Lightroom and want to copy some RAW settings from Canon digital professional (CPP) into Lightroom if possible. I know you can save RAW setting/handeling information from CPP in a .VRD file (example) or also in the RAW file itself.
Why can't I import the settings or apply them after import without trying to copy them manually (like exporting Tiff from CPP, importing Raw and Tiff in Lightroom and compare them, then ajust the raw file so it looks like the tiff and save the preset) This is very difficult!! Please help.

    >Why can't I import the settings or apply them after import without trying to copy them manually
Because these settings are proprietary. Canon (like the other big camera manufacturer) does not disclose how these settings are represented in the RAW's metadata. Secondly, it is unlikely that these settings translate in a meaningful way to Lightroom/ACR as they are completely different RAW interpreters even if one could read them.

  • How could I Import RAW  photos from sony A300 into Lightroom 1.4.1?

How could I Import RAW photos from sony A300 into Lightroom 1.4.1?
RAW photos files in sony A300 are saved as "*.arw".
    any one can help?

This is well known bug. One day Adobe will recognise that with the best live view system (A350/300) and best usability (A700) they need to take the Sony DSLR's seriously.
Use the Import function, but use "choose files". Your CF card (in Camera or reader) will just be another drive. Navigate down to the folder with the pictures - control+A, choose selected. Then choose copy to new location and import (safer than using move).
Don't forget to tick the backup box.
    Hope this helps. Peter

  • Develop settings when importing RAW + jpeg

When importing NEF files from my D700 I apply the landscape sharpening pre-set and am happy with the results.  However on my Fuji X20 I import RAW+jpeg rather than just RAW, in this situation if I use the landscape sharpening pre-set sharpening is applied to the jpeg as well as the RAW resulting in the already sharpened in camera jpeg being grossly over sharpened.  If on the other hand I use none for the develop pr-set no sharpening or noise reduction is applied to the jpeg and a minimum amount applied to the RAW file, more or less what I want except I want the higher landscape sharpening applied to the RAW files.  Is there anyway to modify the built in pre-sets so that they only get applied to the RAW files when importing RAW+jpeg pairs?
    Dave Rosser

I believe the answer is No, you cannot apply a preset at Import time based on file type.
What you can do is after you import, filter on File Type and set it to JPG and apply another preset that changes the sharpening settings of the filtered set of files, then go back and turn off the filter and work with both sets of images as you want.
To filter by File Type, you need to go to Library Grid, enable the filter bar with the backslash \ key if necessary, then select Metadata, and either change one of the existing filter columns to say File Type or add a new File Type column.
Once you have created and applied the filter, you can save it as a filter preset that can be applied by the filter preset selector at the very right and just above the thumbnail strip at the bottom, even in Develop mode.
You might make one for raw and for jpg in case you want to swap between the two, and if you shoot JPGs with more than one camera model, you can add the camera model to the filter criteria.

Still need your OS and Lightroom version too.

  • Imported RAW Photos too bright (overexposed, washed out)

I've noticed with my Sony A700 camera that when I import RAW photos into aperture they look alright in the jpeg preview but once they are processed as raw they become extremely washed out and bright, does anyone know how to fix this?

I have noticed the same issue with my A700 cRAW images. I just got Aperture 3.0.2. I guess I will play around with the raw fine-tune brick to strike a balance with properly exposed image quality, but it's uncomfortable when your preview image and histogram appear good, and your imported image is washed out.
Anyone have a better preset for the A700 camera?

  • Photos not importing raw pef ( pentax raw ) files

    Hi,
recently updated my 2010 macbook pro to the latest version of mavericks.
All my previously imported files are there - jpg, and raw, but trying to import some new photos it seems that only jpg's are being imported.
My pentax k10d is set to save in pef format as they are smaller than the adobe format raw photos.
Does anyone have any ideas how to import raw?
The saved photos on the sd card have the same name for both raw and jpg - only the extension is different.
I've checked in photos to see if there is a raw file 'behind' the jpg but the options for reprocessing raw and 'use raw as original' are greyed out. I can see that all the files are on the sd card in finder - I even tried dragging the raw files to the photos app from finder with no success.
    Thanks,
    Mark

The RAW files of your camera are supported by MacOS X 10.10.x.
My pentax k10d is set to save in pef format as they are smaller than the adobe format raw photos.
That may be the problem. For some supported cameras only the uncompressed RAW files are supported.  Have you tried to take a picture with uncompressed RAW? Will that be imported by Photos?

hi cannot import RAW photos from my canon eos 5d mark 3 to iphoto 9.6 with iOS  X Yosemite. Fotos are black. Did you have a solution for that?

Thanks. Once ImageCapture had accessed the photos, THEN iPhoto began to pick up the data, so I was ultimately able to do both. It only worked with the cable, though, not the card readers. Weird.
And I really appreciate the ImageCapture tip. Any idea why it worked?

  • How do I import RAW photos into iPhoto?  I cannot import RAW photos from my Olympus EPL-2 camera.  I am using iPhoto 7.1.5.

I cannot import RAW photos from my Olympus EPL-2 camera.  I am using iPhoto 7.1.5.  I read that iPhoto has to update their system and add each camera to be able to import RAW photos from it.  If this is true, how can I let Apple know to add my camera.  Thanks in advance.

The Raw from every model of camera is different. Note: that's every model not every brand. So, the NEF produced by a Nikon D40 is not the same as the NEF produced by a D60, the CR2 produced by a Canon 350 is not the same as the CR2 produced by a Canon 400.
Therefore the Raw for every camera model needs to be added individually. If yours is not supported then let them know you want it:
iPhoto menu -> Provide iPhoto Feedback
When support is added I also expect that you'll need iPhoto 09 or 11.
