Import saved e-mails from Thunderbird

Hi all,
I've been running Thunderbird for a while now, but recently I bought MobileMe and now an iPhone, so I will switch over to Mail.
Is it possible to import in an easy way, all my stored/saved e-mails in Thunderbird into my Mail and use the same catalogue/folder structure?
Sincerely,
Andreas

  • Importing mail from Thunderbird incomplete

I'm having some issues importing mail from Thunderbird (Windows). I have exported them as mbox format and copied it across on my Mac. I then import it using mail and select Thunderbird and pointed it to the correct folder.
It starts importing fine, but the issue is that it only imports 1 email only. I have 2000+ emails in the mbox.
I tried Thunderbird for Mac, and imported it across. It works fine importing from Thunderbird Windows -> Thunderbird Mac.
Then I tried importing again to Mail by pointing to my ~/Library/Thunderbird/Profiles folder and once again the import completes with no errors, but only one single email was imported.
    Any ideas?

You’d get better results if you use Eudora Mailbox Cleaner to do the conversion instead.

  • Want to delete mails from Thunderbird but not from the server?

    Hi,
Please tell me how to configure the settings of Thunderbird so that if i delete any mail from Thunderbird that mail would be delete only from Thunderbird not from server. I'm using IMAP configuration for all my mail accounts and I'm using Thunderbird in my laptop and tablet both.
Currently i'm using Thunderbird 24.4.0 and i just want to delete my useless mails from Thunderbird but not from the server without using pop-3 settings.
Actually the reason for this Question arises because whenever i use to uninstall and reinstatement Thunderbird, i use to take "profiles" as a back up and its size is increasing day by day that is making a big issue to me as i cant take a back up of such a big size file.

Imap mail accounts keep the emails on the server and you see a remote view of those emails and folders.
When you subscribe to see a folder, the headers are downloaded, when you select an email to read, the entire folder is downloaded to a temp cache facilitating quicker access. If you synchronize folders, then a copy of that folder is downloaded to an mbox file in your profile, so that you have a copy of the server folder. When you make any changes to a synchronized folder, read an email, delete or move etc, then Thunderbird will resynchronize with the server to update the server. A synchronized folder allows you to work in 'offline' mode and this is the best time to perform a backup as you know there is a temporary stop on synchronizing as you are offline. They will resynchronize when you go back into 'online' mode.
So, with IMAP mail accounts, the folders you see in Thunderbird are the same folders on the webmail server. If you make any changes via Thunderbird or webmail then you are changing the same folder. You cannot delete an email without deleting it from the server, they are one and the same.
What you can do is move/copy an email into Local Folders and delete the one on the server. The Local Folders emails are kept in your Profile on your computer, these folders/emails are not on the server, unless you chose to keep a copy of them on the server.
Pop mail accounts cannot see the folders on the server. They only access the server Inbox folder and download emails not previously downloaded to the mail account Inbox in Thunderbird. These emails are kept on your computer in your profile folder. You can select to keep a copy on the server or not. You can choose to delete emails off your computer and off the server or not.
If the mail account is gmail , have you subscribed or even synchronized to see the 'All Mail' folder ? Gmail's all Mail folder is their Archive folder, it keeps a copy of all of your non-deleted emails. So, you do not need to subscribe to see this folder as it only shows you what you can already see in other folders. It doubles the disc space.
Please read section on 'All Mail' at this link.

You do not have to download/synchronize the entire folder. You could select to only synchronize the most recent xx days of emails.

  • Import Saved Document Presets from older PS to PS CC 2014

Is there a way to import saved document presets from older versions of Photoshop into Photoshop CC 2014? I have a fair amount of document presets I use almost daily and it'd be a pain to have to enter all of them again to save them.

If you create an action set with just the one action and save the set upload the uploade it to the web and post a link to the .atn file we can download the action and test that on our machines.  You will get feedback from both Mac and PC users. It sound odd that it would work once then fail the second  time. Was Photoshop CC 2014 up before you used bridge menu tools>photoshop>batch the first time or was Photoshop started because you used tools>photoshop>batch.  If is was not up did you try closing PS down before the second batch?

  • Importing mail from Thunderbird to Mail

I have discovered the secret. With MobileMe and push email coming with the new iPhone 2.0 upgrade, I decided it was time to stop using Thunderbird and start using Mail. The problem was that when I began to import Thunderbird mail into "Mail" I ran into all kinds of problems - some Thunderbird mail boxes were not recognized, some were imported but had a fraction of the emails in that folder imported, and etc.
Well, here's the solution and this is what I did - go to Eudora's web site, and find and download: "Eudora Mailbox Cleaner 4.8" - it is a small application that I saved on my desktop. Then I followed the following steps:
    1. I compacted my Thunderbird mailboxes first (choose "File → Compact Folders" from the menu in Thunderbird) to remove already deleted messages from the mails files and to speed up the migration process.
    2. Then I located my Thunderbird profile folder and dragged it onto the 'Eudora Mailbox Cleaner' icon in the Finder. Then I chose the drop-down menu item to select Thunderbird instead of Eudora (just followed the appropriate settings in the dialog, with Thunderbird as the source application which migrated my messages to Apple Mail).
    3. All my mail data from Thunderbird showed up in Mail - Import folder - when I restarted Mail.
    4. One more step - I then had to select each imported folder and go to the Menu item: "Mailbox/Rebuild" and the folder that looked empty was filled with all the imported messages.
    5. It was slick, and I made the 3 days I had fretted over the process, trying everything I could think of, seem like a distant bad dream.

P.S. When you download the Eudora app, it comes with a read-me that explains way more then is needed to complete the process.

You’d get better results if you use Eudora Mailbox Cleaner to do the conversion instead.

  • Help! I need to import OLD e-mails from my AOL mail...

Well, I've tried on my own, but it's time to seek out a higher power...
I have old e-mails from AOL 2.7 and 3.0 that I saved on my computer. I just downloaded AOL 5.0 (in Classic) as well as AOL for OS X, and I can open these messages up individually in those programs. But the question is, how can I add those e-mails to my Personal Filing Cabinet in one of those programs, so that I can (the holy grail) eventually get them in to my Apple Mail program? While I can open them up individually now, I can't figure out how to save them into either more recent AOL program -- I think that once I manage to do that, then I can use that AOL Services Assistant thing to get the messages into Apple Mail.
    Can anybody help? Thanks!
    G4 iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

    Hey Ali B,
Thanks for giving this a shot. Here's the best I can remember it: I was using AOL 2.7 in the late 90's, and to make my in-box smaller I saved various e-mails in their own folders, taking them out of the AOL Inbox (which was on my computer, fyi). Now, here's the latest wrinkle -- I found a version of AOL 2.7, and can easily take the e-mails that are saved in my AOL 2.7 Inbox and export them to a later version, and from there to my Apple Mail. But HERE'S the tricky thing -- when I take those earlier e-mails that I pulled out of the AOL Inbox and drop them back into the Inbox folder, they don't get added to the Inbox when I open AOL! I can open them individually in 2.7 (the icons are the same in the Inbox Folder, all e-mails look the same, both the new ones and the old ones), but that also doesn't add them to the AOL Inbox.
Here, it seems to me, is the problem. In the Mail folder is also another icon (and file) that says my screen name, and that somehow incorporates all of the e-mails that are saved under that screen name. And I don't know how to change that file -- just launching AOL 2.7 (or, for that matter, dropping these new messages into the appropriate folder) doesn't help -- only the original messages show up in my AOL 2.7 Inbox, not the additional ones I've added.
And, of course, when I upgrade to 3.0 (or 5.0 or AOL for OS X) these e-mails in my Inbox get added to my Personal Filing Cabinet, and I can't think of any other way to get the other (previously removed) e-mails into the Filing Cabinet.
Does that make any sense whatsoever?

  • Saving e-mails from Safari 2.0.3 to Appleworks 6.0

We use Safari & Appleworks in our company. We often need to save e-mails we receive. Our ISP is AOL. We follow the following procedure: open AOL e-mail in Safari, select an e-mail, click print, copy the resulting window and paste it in a new Appleworks document. Two problems this procedure is very long and when we paste the text of the e-mail to an Appleworks document we get the message that this e-mail was not scanned for viruses and a virus was found and removed. How doe we eliminate the message? Is there a quicker method of saving e-mails while preserving the addresses in the saved text?

    Hi Hessinc,
The need for automation would naturally allude to either an Automator workflow or an applescript. Do you necessarily have to use AppleWorks? If so, then you would probably have to go down the Applescript route. Automator doesn't have support for Carbon apps, as far as I know. For tutorials and extensive how-to's on scripting, please refer to MacScripter.
If, however, you can use other text editing apps, then you have more options to choose from. For instance, have you thought of maybe printing the email to PDF (via the 'Print' dialog)? Or exporting the text selection to a TextEdit .rtf file (via the 'Services' sub-menu under 'Safari')?

  • How can I restore saved e-mail from time machine in 10.7.2?

My saved e-mails just vanished. I have dire need to restore them. They contain vital information. Where are they in Time Machine and exactly how can I restore them? Thanks in advance for any help.
    Jim

    Hi James,
    sorry for my delay.
You mean that you found the folders in your Library/Mail/etc...  ??
Strange that you have the messages there and not in your Mail program. It is clear a matter of a database corrupted.  Inside Mail there is a command Rebuild. this should do the job but there is a risk of a demage to the present Mail.  Of course you can explore each single file in the librari folder but you see they are down in a comples structure and you may not find everithing.
I am not so expert to give you a safe suggetion.
Before tryoing a rebuilt I would do as follows to be more safe about the possible result.
Create a new user Account in your Mac and copy your complete Mail folder into the Library of the new account.
Then try the rebuild option in the new user account and see what happens. You today mail system will not be affected and you can decide what to do.
To postpone a rebuilt can be an option but if you have a demaged database and you se you can live with the result of a rebuild in the "test" account I would rebuild also your.
For some reason before doing any action I wouyld repair the permission and also check the HD to be sure you do not have any write-read problem.
Let me know if it works.

  • Mail didn't import my sent mail from Gmail

Had a bit of trouble initially but eventually got my Mail account set up with my existing Gmail account and it nicely downloaded all my past incoming mail which is all in the In Box. However, I can't find my old outgoing mail. The only things I see when I click Sent are the messages sent since I started using Mail. Is there somewhere else I should be looking for them? If not, how do I go about importing them to my new computer now?
The old outgoing messages are still on my old computer, but that email client is old Eudora— is there a way to import them from the old machine to the new and make them readable with Mail?

Sorry—did I put this in the wrong place? I thought I selected Mail but will try again.

  • Please help, dead end How do you import to Apple mail from Outlook express?

I have a client with an old Mac G3 tower running OS9 and Outlook Express 5.06. I have read all of Apples Mail help and searched for docs and the discussion board. It appears that since the Mac Pro Intel won't run classic I have to some sort of transfer via another app. I have actually found better info on doing this from a PC but no successful suggestions to do it Mac to Mac. I have moved the Microsoft User Data over, tried directly from Apple Mail, tried loading Mozilla and pulling it in there, no good. How do you do this successfully?

I think I have figured this out, looks like I might be able to import to Entourage then to Mail, anyone tried this?

  • How to import email in Mail from Time Machine to Lion

My laptop, which had Leopard OS, was stolen. Fortunately, I have a Time Machine backup. I used that to install on my new laptop which has Lion (10.7.4). In Mail, my folders show up, but not the email in them. How do I get the email from Time Machine? (Current email is working. That is, email since I got the new laptop.)

Don't try to restore the file; restore the Note. Go in Mail to the mailbox where the note belongs. Enter Time Machine from there and step back until you find the Note.

  • Importing mailboxes into Mail from Entourage only partially works.

I am trying to import all my Entourage mailboxes into Mail.
[The background of this is that I want to upgrade to Lion, but my version of Office won't work in Lion and I don't want to pay for a new version, so I'm going to abandon Entourage and use Mail].
The process appears to work properly; there is no error message and Mail tells me that the mailboxes have been imported into a folder called Import.
However when I look at the Mail mailbozes, all teh messages are not there. The import has worked up to a point and then just stopped. By this I mean all the actual mailboxes (and sub mailboxes) are in place, tbut only the first 50% or so of the messages are there. (Admitedly, there are a large number of mesages in my mailboxes and the import has worked through them logically by alpahbetical order of mailboxes.)
I've also tried dragging the missing message across manually, but this doesn't work.
    Any ideas?

Well there are some suggested solutions on here if you search for them. Hoever, I eventually worked around it by just importing a section of my old email at a time. A bit tedious, but it worked.

  • Help--can I I import to Apple Mail from another e-mail program?

I have Entourage (Microsoft Office 2004, patched to 2007) and haven't been able to complete a backup since September because the database is apparently corrupted and can't be repaired.  It's very full and I'm sure it's going to crash soon and be irrecoverable, but I don't know what to do to save my emails and the numerous folders I use to organize my life.
Since the database for that account doesn't seem to be long for this world, does anyone know if it's possible to back up my Entourage accounts by importing them to Apple Mail, so in an emergency I'll still have the data?  Thanks so much for any good advice out that's there!

You can't import inbox rules to Mail the app on iOS. This is usually done server-side as you see with Gmail. So you're not using exchange where you could create these rules there before they reach your inbox? Does your email provider support creating server-side inbox rules? This way they are universal rather than needing to be set up in every email client you use.

  • Saving sent mail from an specific person

i have a smart mailbox which saves all my received messages from an specific person but is there a way to make a folder with the emails i have sent to that specific person?
    Thank you

you can create a smart mailbox for that in the same way you've created the other smart mailbox. when you are creating a smart mailbox, in the parameters select "any recipient" instead of "from" and check the box "include sent messages".
