Import screen UI design

The Import screen still has the All Photos checkbox on the scrolling part at the top of the window. If you forget to uncheck it before scrolling down a long list of photos, you have to scroll all the way up again, just to uncheck that box.
Seems like a bad piece of UI design, to put a checkbox on a scrolling part of the interface; it's been there since the beginning, and it's still there now.
Just my two cents…

jim01403, that is indeed true.  But doesn't that make the very existence of the checkbox at the top even more illogical?
Surely, the holy grail of any UI is to be as logical, and as simple, as possible. To have differently named actionable elements (Check All/Uncheck All buttons at the bottom, and an All Photos checkbox on the scrolling section at the top), seems to me to be superfluous design. I can't see the point of the checkbox at all, when its temporarily useful action is permanently available by using the buttons at the bottom.
I mean, here's a chance for Adobe to tidy things up a little…

  • Imported screen recordings are importing tinted red.

When i Import screen recordings into this version of imovie, they have a red tint, like really dark red.  this never hapened before the update.  thoughts?  I used quicktime to screencast

I had that problem until I googled it and found that if you export the QuickTime .mov file from QuickTime (I used the 1080p format), the red tint went away.
    Hope this helps.

  • Imported Screen Shots are Blurry

    Hello FCP users,
I am challenged and need some guidance. The projects that I create a little mini-movies/demos made up of mostly imported screen shots and some still photos -- never any video. My challenge is that I have a very clean screen shot to work with -- if I bring them up in Preview, Photoshop, etc. they look great. The second I import them into FCP they are blurry, degraded and next to unreadable. I seems like I've tried everything, but nothing seems to make a difference.
I am not the one taking the screen shots -- they are provided from a different source each time. Each person most likely uses a different product to grab those screen shots, but my guess is that they are probably using snag-it or a similar product. I usually ask them to provide the "best" quality they can. That can mean a ton of different sized screen shots come my way. The ones I'm working with now range in size -- 1,116x760, 1,284x1000, 1,026x813, 1,023x830 to name a few.
I have been on the boards and did try one recommendation that I saw to reduce the size of the image to the same frame size that you are working with (in my case 720x480). Of course, when I do this there is degradation before I even bring it into FCP.
So, I'm wondering, should I be asking people to create their screen shots at 720x480? I've been playing around in Parallels with Snag-it to see what options are available -- I don't see that they can choose to produce the screen shots at a certain size -- they can reduce them after they take it, but there's that degradation again. Maybe there is some recommended product that I can suggest? Everyone I work with to supply the screen shots would be a pc user.
Does anyone have any suggestions? I do these often, and my screen quality always looks poor. I'd like to come up with a solution and I'm sure a big part of that is instructing those who supply the screen shots to take them a certain way...perhaps with a certain product...only I don't know what that is.
    Best practices anyone?
    My settings are:
    Frame Size: 720x480
    Aspect Ratio: NTSC DV (3:2)
Pixel Aspect Ratio: NTSC - CCIR 601 / DV (720x480)
    Compressor: DV/DVCPRO - NTSC
    Thanks for your insights.
    Tawny

Pan & Scan: in this context, I was referring to the idea of panning across a screen shot instead of reducing it to the size of the video frame. In other words, the original is (e.g.) 2x the width or height and then, as you explain / narrate, it moves across the screen. This preserves the "local" resolution of the original, but doesn't give the viewer a single view of the whole screen. It can be used in conjunction with the "whole view" as a kind of CU shot.

  • RH 11 Imported Screen Layout Not Displaying in Gallery

Began using a trial of RH11 today and am experimenting with Responsive HTML5. I am trying to understand how to use a newly downloaded/imported screen layout while setting up a new single source Responsive HTML5 layout. I downloaded the screen layout from the Adobe site, which was a single file in a zip file. I unzipped the layout file to the same download folder and imported the extracted file into the Screen Layouts folder in the Project Set-up pod within RH11.  Then while working in the Responsive HTML5 Settings window, clicked Gallery and expected to see the newly imported layout as an option there. The layout does not display. The layout name does display under the Screen Layouts folder folder in Project Set-up though.
How do I get the layout to display in the Gallery? I am wondering if I extracted the layout file to the wrong location? Does it have to be extracted to a folder within my project files such as the SSL folder or within the folder to which the RH11 trial software was installed? I assumed the Import process in Project Set-up would copy the layout file to wherever it was needed for it to work in Robohelp.
4/3 addition to original post -- adding a picture for reference regarding where I can't get the new layout to show. WIthout it showing here, how would I go about assigning the layout to my single source layout?

Thank you William. After following those steps, I was able to apply a newly downloaded .slz to my desired Responsive HTML5 single source layout.
While I am still not successful in getting the new screen layout to show in the gallery (in window accessed from B below), I was able to see the new screen layout in the Select drop-down list of the Responsive HTML Settings window -- thus mission acomplished! I made my selection from that list to get the desired, new screen layout applied to my project. Thanks so much!

  • Import screen cannot enlarge preview thumbnail from Canon G15 raw CR2 file

Lightroom 4.3 import screen does not seem to be able to enlarge for better viewing  the preview thumbnail from a Canon G15 raw CR2 file?

    HI,
I do not know the answer, but I would expect, that Lr only displays the embeded jpeg preview of your raw files. And I think, that the previews are small. You can use exiftool , exiftoolgui to see what's the dimension of your previews.

I'm not clear on exactly what it is you're asking, but if you're referring to changing opacity, you can change the opacity setting for the States of a menu item via the States panel and Control Strip.

  • Why are some files missing from import screen?

I'm trying to import some files into LR, but the import screen isn't showing all of the files that are in the folder I've selected.
I've notice this only when there are multiple files with the same base filename.  For example, when the folder contains the following files, LR will show all of them in the import screen:
    file.mp4
    file1.jpg
    file2.jpg
However, "file1.jpg" will not be shown in the import screen when the folder contains the following files:
    file1.mp4
    file1.jpg
    file2.jpg
I've been unable to find an LR preference that covers this.  Have I overlooked it?
    Thanks!

Here's a guess ... emphasis on the word "guess" ... when you have file1.mp4 and file1.jpg, the .jpg is considered a "sidecar" and won't be imported ... unless ... you select the option in Preference (general tab) that says "Treat JPG files next to raw files as separate photos" ... yes, I know the option says "raw" and your file is an "mp4", but it takes you less than a minute to give ita try

  • Displaying Exif info at the import screen

Is there a way to view exif info of each photo on the LR 4.2 import screen. I'd like to view Exif data before making the decision to import the capture but can't figure out how to do this. Ideally it would appear as a 'tooltip' when hovering over the image in gridview, or, when looking at a single image it using the "I" key should display image info like it does in other modules of LR4. Are there any plugins that could do that?
    Thanks!

I don't think this feature exists.
I believe the philosophy here is import the photos, then use the power of the Library Module if you want EXIF information.

  • No previews in import screen

    Hi all,
I used other camera's than my trusty old Canon 30D for a while and I've upgraded to LR 2.6 in the meantime. Now, when I import RAW files from the 30D with the 'Import' button in the Library module, it only shows empty 'tiles' in the preview screen. With the correct files names but no thumbnails. When I actually import the files in the catalog, everything works OK.
This does not happen with RAW files from my Panny LX3. These files are shown as thumbnails in the Import screen.
Any ideas what's wrong? (or what I'm doing wrong). Very annoying!...
    Cheers, Richard.

    Hi Seán,
Tnx for your response. No it's a 30D from 2006. I have also changed the colorspace in the camera from Adobe RGB to sRGB to see if the '_MG' filenaming from the 30D with Adobe RGB had anything to do with it but it doesn't.
When I shoot JPG it works fine but somehow LR doesn't read previews from RAW (...CR2) files. Below a screenshot from the import screen. Two RAW files, one JPG. I have LR 2.6 (632038) CR 5.6.
OS is Win XP SP2 on a Thinkpad T61 laptop. Nothing exotic here imo...
    Weird huh?...
    Richard.

  • Iphone is showing in import screen, but is not connected

I don't know when this started, but I have recently noticed when I go to the import screen, it shows my iphone and a bunch of pictures/movies that should be importable, but don't actually have anything.  The kicker is, my iphone is not plugged in.  How to I "disconnect" it, so that when I do attach my phone, I can get the actual images.

Try the "Safe Mode" solution mentioned in this post.  I don't remember why it worked -- but it did.
Post back if it does not.
    Added:
Discussions formatting got ruined as part of the most recent upgrade.  Here is the link to the KB article on Safe Mode.

  • Increase size of thumbnails in Import screen

    Hi All,
When I import files from disk to import into iPhoto, the thumbnails are too small to distinguish what the photo is. The slider on the lower right hand side of the screen, is not part of the import window, so it does not affect the thumbnails in the import screen.
Would someone be able to tell me the magi sequence to get these larger so I can determine whether to import the picture or not?
    Thanks,
    Steve

Hi Steve: I see the issue you are referring to. What type of disk are you importing from? CD? If so, this might work. With the CD in the drive, open finder, navigate to the CD in question within finder. Select Icon view, then in the Menu bar, select View > Show View Options. From within this little window, change the icon size to something larger, IE: 150.
I notice you are using Leopard 10.5, so options may look a little different than mine.
If you are using some other type of disk, post back
    Hope this helps
