Import sent email

My old hard drive is failing and I setting setting up a new HD. I'm unable to find or import any of my old sent email, let-a-lone the mail boxes that they were organized into.
Because old HD is failing I only have limited access to it.
Where is the "sent" email kept (path) or what is the easiest way to import my old sent email into a Mail?
Thank you
G4 800   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Mail stores all your mail within the ~/Library/Mail/ folder, and all the account settings in the ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist preferences file. Salvaging and then restoring these two is all you should need to do. Let me know if you need further assistance or more specific information.
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user's home folder.

  • Sent emails are missing from Thunderbird following migration from alternative email client and import of emails

All sent emails are missing from the Thunderbird 'Sent' folder following import, but Sent folder still shows a count of the imported emails (Thunderbird considered them to be unread when importing them, hence the count). The messages are also visible online (BT Internet email) and on other devices (Android running BlueMail). Settings are set to place copies of sent items into Sent folder. Having imported all my old email, I can send email but again they do not appear in the Sent folder (but do appear online and on other devices). I have tried compacting the Sent folder and i have tried repairing the folder. All other folders (Inbox, other newly created folders) show the email i have imported.
If I move an email online from the Sent folder to another test folder, it syncs and appears in Thunderbird in that test folder. If I then use Thunderbird to move the email back from that test folder to the Sent folder then Thunderbird will do so, but locks up for a good minute or so while doing that.
Running TB 24.6.0 on Windows 8.1, incoming server set to IMAP on mail.btinternet.com (port 993), outgoing server set to SMTP on mail.btinternet.com (port 465).
    Help gratefully received!

    Cheers for that, Mulder.
It did seem to recover some emails which had disappeared from Mail, but not all of them. That's the frustrating thing - short of going through my Yahoo webmail accounts and logging every single email, and then cross-referencing with what's on my desktop, I just can't be sure what's there and what's not!
Sometimes it's immediately clear that something is awry - the folder I use for emails from my girlfriend is completely empty, for instance, when I definitely had things in there before the weekend. (Yes, again I went away for the weekend, with the computer still running - and Mail on - and again I returned to discover emails missing.

  • IOS 7 randomly deletes sent emails and imports read email

    Hi all,
I have updated my iphone 5 3GS to the latest version of ios 7 and it seems to randomly wipe all my sent emails and then downloads all the emails that I have previously read and deleted.
Anyone else had this and has any solutions- it's incredibly annoying as I sometimes need to refer to sent emails and no longer have them on my phone.
Thanks in advance for any ideas!
    G

If this email account is Hotmail:
Hotmail has used POP for emails in the past and this does not sync if messages are read or not. This is an old standard and shouldn't be used any more.
You can now use Exchange or IMAP for hotmail and this should mark them as read and stop this from happening again. Add a new mail account on your iPhone, and select Exchange instead of Hotmail/Outlook.com and sign in with your hotmail details. You may need to change the Mail Days to Sync options after you set it up to get all your emails back. Your hotmail account may also have put all your emails into a POP folder. Sign in to hotmail on a computer and move all the emails in that folder back into your inbox.
If exchange does not work, you can try using IMAP, the details are
    Incoming Mail Server IMAPServer: imap-mail.outlook.com
    Outgoing Mail Server SMTPServer: smtp-mail.outlook.com
To add the account, select other when you add a new mail account, and put in a nonsense email address for example "[email protected]" to avoid the mail app automatically setting up the account for you.
Then select IMAP and input the proper details. your username is your hotmail address.
If this email account is something other than Hotmail:
It sounds like your email account is using POP which does not sync if messages are read or not, try to find out if your email account supports IMAP and enter those details like i explain in the bottom part of the hotmail explanation.

  • How do I retrieve "lost" sent emails?

Whilst attempting to rectify problems with my wife's mail program in Tiger 10.4.11, on her PowerBook 6.8 12" G4 laptop, I reduced the time from "Never" to "One Week" before sent emails are erased, believing that this would reduce the storage required on the ISP's server.
Instead I find that all old outgoing emails older than one week, are no longer available on her 12" G4 laptop, and my life has become ****.
How do I get Mail to display the "lost" outgoing emails?
The last backup of this machine was about two months ago, so I need to find and restore/import at least the past couple of months of outgoing emails, which have been erased.
    Advice please.

Unfortunately, it sounds like the missing messages have actually been erased. You might want to download the free trial of this software to see if anything is recoverable. I don't have any personal experience with it.

  • How do I export addresses from a sent email to a group vcard?

I sent many of my existing contacts an email and now want to group those contacts in a vcard.  They are all already in my address book but as there are several hundred contacts that I want to group together, I don't want to do this one by one.  Does anyone know if it can be done using my sent emails?  And if not, is there a quick way to do this?

The tweaking comes after you have a working csv file which you don't yet. Just to be sure, here's what I did to get mine: In Earthlink webmail, click Preferences -> Address Book Tab -> Import/Export Address Contacts -> Export Address Book. Hopefully that presents you with this dialog box:
I did Save File, not Open, and put it on my desktop. Then launch Apple Address Book -> File -> Import, and navigate to your desktop and select the csv file. It has to have ".csv" at the end of the name as the correct file type. If you do all that and still get the same error message, something else is wrong. If it's still bad, check the csv file on your desktop, try to open it with Excel for Mac or some other spreadsheet program and you should see all the data - names, addresses if any, email addresses, etc.

  • How to export sent email from n8?

    Hi,
I'm using the standard email application on my N8 (no Anna yet) with a POP3&SMTP account. I need to export the messages I sent with my N8. They are stored in two "sent" folders
I need to import these messages into the email software on my computer or an email account on a server.
How is that done? I could not find any export tool in the Nokia Suite, the PC Suite or N8 itself. There is a "Best MessageStore" app in the Store, but it only creates plaintext or CSV files, which I can't import anywhere.
I could use an IMAP folder, but I could not find a way to change the current setup from POP3/SMTP to IMAP. I can create a new account with new folders on the phone, but then I don't know how to copy the old email messages into that new IMAP folder.
Furthermore, I tried importing the email messages to a Nokia N9, but the import routine seems to ignore email messages.
    Any ideas?
    Thank you!

Belle is the first version that lets you move items out of the Sent folder into other folders.
The Suite will take a backup of your message store before upgrading to Belle and restore it afterwards. You could then move items in the Sent into other IMAP folders.
You also might find NbuExplorer on Sourceforge.net useful, it allows you to look inside the backup files taken by Nokia Suite. You could backup the message store and examine it without needing to upgrade to Belle if you're not upgrading for a reason.
Your messages are stored in C:\Private\1000484b but you don't have permission to view them yourself with the File Manager unless you've jailbroken first.

  • Mail is putting multiple copies of sent emails in my drafts folder, or in trash.

Mail is putting copies of emails successfully sent in my drafts folder, sometimes multiple copies, sometimes in trash.
Also, new email keeps entering my inbox after I've moved it to other mailboxes or to the trash or junk mail. Also, if I search for a name to which I have sent or from which I have received an email, the results shows a copy of each mail in all these mailboxes: Important, All Mail, Sent Mail, Sent G-Mail. This is a recent phenomenon. For every sent email I get 5 copies in my trash box.

I phoned up Appe Support yesterday and i discovered that SOME (not all) of my trouble was caused by my 2 Gmail accounts, which werent correctly designated as Gmail Server WITH the correct password, it was set to use the server from one of my other accounts.
I do still have another problem which doesnt go away, i open Mail normally and there is ghost Open Window, which cannot be opened, to view my Mail i have to open a NEW viewer window, even though there is a Window open all ready, the Ghost window !

  • ICloud is making sent email disappear, why?

    Hello folks,
I've been having problems with iCloud. Every now and then when I send an email off to a recipient, there will not be a copy in the sent emails folder nor can I scroll up in the messages screen to see my sent email.
This only happens on iCloud. I have a Gmail a/c on Mail.app too and no problems there.
    What's going on?
    Best,
    LA.

I'm having the same issue.  Every now and then, my sent e-mail does not appear in the Sent folder.  It happened again this evening, of course I was sending an important e-mail to a lawyer and now I'm not sure if he received it or not.  I'm waiting for Apple Support to contact me tomorrow.  I did contact them about a month or so about this issue but I was disconnected so I never did get a response.

  • Sent emails dissappeared

    Hi,
I've let my sent email box get too large and now all the emails have dissappeared. Not realising that all the emails were going into one file, which I now know is the mbox file. My mbox is 1.96Gb,
I've tried updating from Panther to Tiger, tried rebuild and moved the mbox file to another computer to see if that will open it and all the appears are my emails sent in the last 48 hours from when the problem started.
Any help would be very gratefully received as this is driving me mad.

OK, I haven't really tried it, but I've taken a look, and it seems to accomplish the same that importing the old mbox files using the Other import option in Mail 2.0 would. I guess all mail came up as unread and some "deleted" messages could have reappeared as well.
What probably makes this utility useful is that it guides you trough the steps that must be taken, making the transition process to appear simpler, despite it actually being more convoluted. It's a neat and clever way of being able to import mail into any mail client, nevertheless -- provided the old mail is available in mbox format, that is.
BTW, the product is made by Weird Kid Software. Emetrix is the provider of the e-commerce solution they use for their web store.
    Thanks for the feedback.

  • Sent emails disappeared after rebuild

When I try to view sent mail from one of my accounts in Mail, I've been seeing "The message xxx concerning “xxx” has not been downloaded from the server. You need to take this account online in order to download it." Checked the size of the box and it was at 1.1 GB, so I deleted a bunch of emails with attachments, but that didn't help after re-opening the application. Following the advice of a post here, I tried to rebuild that mailbox, and the emails all vanished. Tried finding them in Home/Library/Mail/SentMessages.mbox, but the sent mail files there are very small (20 KB), nowhere near the 400MB I was at when the emails disappeared.
I also discovered that there are two, near-duplicate folders for this account in the Mail folder: one contains a trailing space after the name; dates created 3/25/2005 and 1/18/2006, both last modified today. I'm using POP on OS 10.3.9 and have tried re-importing the mailbox, but got nothing. I still get the message about downloading the message from he server when I try to view Sent emails from this account....
Can anybody help me get those sent emails back in their folder? Thanks in advance--

What appears below is what I would have posted if it wasn’t because of the weird duplicate account folder you mention. You may be able to figure out which of the two account folders is Mail using to store your mail by looking at the modification dates of the mailboxes it contains rather than the modification dates of the account folders themselves...
    <hr>
It looks like you have the problem described in the following article:
    Overstuffed mailbox is unexpectedly empty
As you can see, letting a mailbox grow indefinitely is a really bad idea — and it appears to be too late now to solve the problem doing what the article suggests. If this is a POP account, you may be able to fix it as follows:
    1. Quit Mail if it’s running.
    2. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Mail/POP-username@mailserver/.
    3. Locate Sent Messages.mbox and move it to the Desktop.
    4. Open Mail. A new empty Sent Messages.mbox will automatically be created within the account folder, and this will allow you to continue using Mail normally while trying to solve the problem.
Although Sent Messages.mbox appears to be a file, it’s actually a special kind of folder (a package) that contains several files. Ctrl-click on Sent Messages.mbox and choose Show Package Contents from the contextual menu to see the files it contains. Of these files, mbox is the most important and is where all your messages are stored. What’s the size of that file? Depending on its size, you may or may not be able to directly import it back into Mail in the next step.
An Incoming_Mail file may also be present, in which case it might contain messages that Mail couldn’t transfer to mbox. Incoming_Mail is also a standard mbox file like mbox proper, just named differently, and can be imported back into Mail in the same way.
    5. In Mail, do File > Import Mailboxes and follow the instructions to import the Sent Messages.mbox that’s on the Desktop. I’m not sure what the import options available in Mail 1.x are, but you should choose Other / Standard mbox or something like that, so that Mail looks at the mbox file only (and Incoming_Mail, if present) and ignores the other files in the package.
If Mail doesn’t let you select Sent Messages.mbox in step 5 because it’s a package instead of a plain folder, rename Sent Messages.mbox to just Sent Messages (i.e. remove the .mbox suffix) so that it becomes a normal folder, and try again. You cannot do this directly in the Finder because removing a suffix by normal means causes the Finder to hide the suffix instead of renaming the file. To remove the suffix from the name, you must do File > Get Info (⌘I) on the file and change the name there.
If the mbox file is too big for Mail to handle it, however, you’ll have to break it into smaller pieces. You can do that with an MBOX Breaker Script available at Allan Sampson’s website, or with Emailchemy. The former will ignore the Incoming_Mail file that I mentioned previously, but you may try importing that file directly if it’s not too big or just ignore it if all your messages are in mbox. Also, if you removed the .mbox suffix from the name of the mailbox, you may need to add it back again for the script to recognize it.
If all is well and you don’t miss anything, the files on the Desktop can be deleted, although you may want to keep them for a while, just in case.
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder. That is, ~/Library is the Library folder within the user’s home folder, i.e. /Users/username/Library.

  • Switched ISPs, now all of my Sent email disappeared.

I did however, retain my account with my old ISP until I can get everything back. I posted this same question on other threads but the situations/conditions were different.
Any idea how I can get them back? IS it a port thing? I noticed that my new ISP had me change ports.

    RuskinRules,
I'm going to ask the same question: Do you have a Time Machine backup?
If so, it should be relatively easy to find, and restore, the old sent emails.
The first thing to know, however, is whether this old account was set up as an IMAP account, or a POP account. If it was an IMPA account, you may be able to re-create the account in Mail, then use the "rebuild" function to recover those sent emails. IMAP keeps all messages, whether received or sent, on the email server.
With a POP account, however, all messages are stored locally by default. While there are some instances where incoming messages might be retained on the server, all outgoing messages sent using the client are stored locally, and nowhere else.
So, you may be able to recover those sent messages from the server if you were using IMAP. Otherwise, your only option will be to recover them from a backup, preferably a Time Machine backup.
If a Time Machine backup does exist, open a Finder window and navigate to /Users/HOME/Library/Mail/. Inside the Mail folder, you will see some number of other folders. Among these, you will see one folder for each email account you currently have set up in Mail. These will be named using your email address for each account. Now, click the Time Machine icon in the Dock. Navigate "back in time" until you see the folder named for your old email account. Select it, then click "Restore."
This returns the folder to its proper place in your HOME folder, but you'll still have to import it back into Mail. In Mail, choose File>Import Mailboxes, then use the dialogue to navigate to the "sent" mailbox within the restored folder.

Yes. In normal situations sent messages should be visible. Also is "Save copies of messages in the Sent Items folder" option marked for that mailbox: http://www.slipstick.com/outlook/outlook-2010/messages-arent-saved-in-the-sent-items-folder/?

    Hi Team,
I am looking for a script to find out all Exchange mailboxes who have not sent email after 25thMay 2014 & there last email sent time.
    Please help.

    Hi,
To work around this issue, you can create a csv file with the sender list you get from the powershell provided by Nothing. Then you can use the Get-Messagetrackinglog cmdlet to get the Timestamp.
Here is an example for your reference.
    sender
    [email protected]
    [email protected]
    [email protected]
    $sender = Import-Csv C:\Users\Administrator.NOURD\Desktop\Book1.csv
    foreach ($i in $sender) {Get-Messagetrackinglog -Sender $i.sender | Sort Timestamp -desc | Ft Sender, Timestamp}
