Import settings for Music and Videos

Hi
I have my iTunes set up so that when I import music, it copies the files and keeps it organised in the iTunes folder on my Mac hard drive
However, I want to import my videos into iTunes, but I don't want it to import them into the iTunes folder, i want to keep them on my external hard drive
Is there a way I can do this? I want it to keep my Music on the mac hard drive, but for videos I want it to keep them on my external hard drive instead of copying them across like it does for music?
Thanks

before you add new movies, go iTunes > preferences > advanced and point +*iTunes media folder location+* to the external. point +*iTunes media folder location+* back to your local iTunes folder before adding music.

I have no sound for games in my iPad. I have tried the reset but it does not work. The speakers work as I have sound for music and videos.

Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.) http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
Check your settings. The iPads have a small switch on the right edge. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430 It can be used as a rotation lock to keep the screen from automatically reorienting itself as you move around, but you need to have the tablet’s settings configured properly. That same switch, right above the volume buttons, can also be set to function instead as a mute button to silence certain types of audio.
If the switch is set to work as a mute button, you can change its purpose to “screen-rotation lock” by tapping the Settings icon on the home screen. On the Settings screen, tap General on the left side, and on the right side of the screen flick down to “Use Side Switch to.” Tap to select Lock Rotation or Mute to set the button’s function. Even if you set the side switch for your preferred use, you can still mute the Mini or lock the screen. Just double-click the Home button, and when the panel of apps appears along the bottom edge of the screen, flick the row from left to right with your finger. Tap the icon on the far left side of the row to either lock the iPad’s screen or mute the iPad’s alerts, notifications and sound effects. Music, podcasts and video are not muted unless you turn the volume all the way down.

To solve some sound problems, just follow these simple steps
    1. Go to Settings
    2. Tap on General
    3. Tap on Reset
    4. Tap on Reset All Settings
What this effectively does is to reset some of your Settings to factory default. It’s not a complete removal of settings. It removes all of your preferences for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Do No Disturb, Notifications, General, Sounds, Brightness & Wallpaper and Privacy. It doesn’t affect your data. All of your email accounts will remain intact, as well as any SMS text or iMessages.

  • Can I use two Time Capsules? one as an extension of my laptop (for music and video storage) and the other one to back up everything from the laptop and  Time Capsule (for music and videos)

Can I use two Time Capsules? one as an extension of my laptop (for music and video storage) and the other one to back up everything from the laptop and  Time Capsule (for music and videos)

Not via Time Machine.   It cannot back up from a network location.
The 3rd-party apps CarbonCopyCloner and ChronoSync may be workable alternatives.
EDIT:  And, if you're going to do that, you could back up from the Time Capsule to a USB drive connected to the TC's USB port.  Second TC not required.

  • Home sharing is working fine for musics and videos but not for apps. What is wrong?

Home sharing is working fine for musics and videos but not for apps. What is wrong?

i had the same issue as everyone here after upgrading to itunes 10.x.  vista could see xp home share.  ipod touch could see xp home share.
neither could see vista home share.
after several hours of authorizing de-authorizing, rebooting router etc, i knew it had to be a firewall thingy with vista as xp was working fine
i went to this article http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2553 and followed the instructions.  itunes was already in my vista exception list.  on a hunch i deleted the itunes exception and followed the steps to add it again and boom it worked!! i could now see my vista machine from my ipod touch immediately.
something must have screwed up the firewall exception on the upgrade to itunes 10.x
it worked for me, i hope this helps others

  • Blue tooth for music and video.... yes, it can be done, and phone too

Well they say it can't be done... what? Bluetooth connection from the Iphone
    that outputs the Ipod music...
    Well when there's a will, there's a way... here's all you need.
1 set of Plantronics 590A bluetooth headset... make sure you get the " A " version of the headset because that version comes with its own bluetooth transmitter.
Also you will need to have an adaptor for the Iphone headphone jack... this would be the Belkin Headpone Adapter.
And of course the Iphone itself.
After getting all of the components together, Turn the Iphone on and goto settings, General, Bluetooth, ON... the Iphone is now discoverable.
Now take the headset and with the power button to the off position, press and hold down the call button ( right side of headset with picture of a phone)
and at the same time turn the power button to ON..
The headset will start to flash and after about 30 seconds the Iphone will show
" headset ", tap it on the Iphone and it will ask for the pass code... put in
    4 Zeros... " 0000 "
The Iphone will now show that it is paired with Plantronics 590 headset.
Now go ahead and put the phones on your head, extend the microphone and make a test call...
See it works great.. and the volume buttons on the side of the Iphone control the headset volume, and the headset controls work also... you can tap on the call button on the headset to make a call or cancel the call or mute...
OK, we got the headset to work with the phone so far...
But at this moment your also saying, cool, the phone works but I still don't get any music coming out of the Iphone to these cool stereo headsets...
So lets fix that issue right now...
Take the Headphone adapter and take the small bluetooth transmitter that came with the Headset and plug the transmitter into the adapter and plug the adapter
into the headphone jack of the Iphone...
Turn the bluetooth transmitter to the ON position... now on the Iphone go to the ipod icon, click it and choose a song to play...
Wow, the bluetooth head set is now playing your song in full stereo...
Now have someone call your Iphone... Hey the music stopped playing and you took the call. Now hang up the phone, hey the music has started to play again...
anyway, you get the picture... oh, it also now plays your movies, internet, youtube... ect..ect.. all on your new set of Bluetooth headset, and the headset works fine as a phone headset too, complete with microphone and callback,mute....
    enjoy

Cool. Thanks. I'm not so much a phone person so I don't find it inconvenient to just stick the iPhone up to my face to make the sort of brief calls I make or take. But I've always wanted a way to throw my iPod now iPhone safely into a courier bag and listen to music without having to snake the headphone cord out through a flap or zipper, and then have it snag on everything, pulling the earbuds out of my ears. Receiving calls without having to dig out the phone is just an excellent extra perk.
Thanks again. I'll go look up pricing on this model right now. I assume the BT transmitter for the headphones runs on batteries?

  • Why does my volume for music or videos not play externally, but it does for my alarm or phone calls?

I can not get the volume on my IPhone 4S to play externally for music and videos. However, the sound for my alarms and phone calls do sound externally. Also, the buttons on the side of the phone for volume control no longer appear to be working? What can I do to fix this?  Thank you.

    Hello Jack,
I would be concerned too if the speaker on my iPhone was not working.  I found an article with some steps to take when you are experiencing issues like this:

  • NOT ABLE TO IMPORT MUSIC AND VIDEO FILES FROM IPOD TO COMPUTER/ITUNES LIBRARY !!!!

Hi.... I am having IPod Nano 5th Generation. I can access music and video files (that are stored in Ipod memory) in Ipod. But when I connect the ipod to computer, I am not able to access/import these music and video files through computer. Also, I am not able to see any folders like DCIM, Contacts, etc... in the memory of IPod. Can any body help me out... ?

Search it up on google.com.  There's a lot of apps that will help you do this.  Check out this one:
    http://www.imtoo.com/ipod-computer-transfer.html
You can also check out this video:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dWvYo6Gcq44
I tried the import software (trial version) and it was fine but I didn't want to pay for software.  You can authorize up to 5 computers in the house to access your iTunes music and other iTunes purchases. Open iTunes, you can go under Store and select Authoize this computer.
    Good luck!

  • Delete content, My iPod 4 deleted all my music and videos for the third time. What can I do to stop this?, My iPod 4 deleted all my music and videos for the third time. What can I do to stop this?

iPod deletes all music and videos, I synced it with iTunes, but after some time it deletes again.

To stop this, don't use the same Apple ID on both phones for iMessage and FaceTime.  (You can continue to use the same ID for iTunes; it doesn't need to be the same as the ID used for iMessage or FaceTime.)
On one of the phones, go to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive, tap the ID, sign out, then sign back in with a different ID.  Then do the same thing in Settings>FaceTime.

  • I want to use my IPOD Classic 160gb for notepad entries in addition to the music and books I listen to. It is set to "Open ITunes when connected to computer" and "manually manage music and videos". How can I do that without losing some of the features

I want to use my IPOD Classic 160gb for notepad entries in addition to the music and books I listen to. It is set to "Open ITunes when connected to computer" and "manually manage music and videos".  How can I do that without losing some of the features of those two?   I just want to add a feature.  Thanks

Settings>Store (or iTunes & App Stores if you are running iOS6)>Apple ID. Tap your son's ID and sign out. Sign in with your ID and password.
You shouldn't lose the music, but if you try to update any apps that you bought with the family ID, you will have to use that password that is linked with that ID in order to update.
Avoid downloading past purchased content with the old ID if you can since you will associate the iPad with the old ID for 90 days and you will lock yourself out of your own, new ID for that period of time. Read more about associated devices in iTunes here.

  • HT1849 how to import music and video from windows media player

I want to import my music and videos from the windows media player, and I want to import or put it all in my itunes library. How do I do that. I know there is a button.
Am I missing it? Can someone help me please. I am working off of a laptop. If that helps anything.

In Media Player music list, make sure the "Protected" column is displaying. Sort by that column. Any songs that are protected can not be converted to iTunes. You will have to re-rip the CD with the WMP setting to be to not protect the songs.
I had the same problem with album covers and could never fix it. I just gave up. I spoke with people at Apple stores and nothing they suggested worked.

  • Multiple iTunes Libraries - One for Music and One for Videos

Because my laptop's hard drive's filling up with videos, I'd like to movie them to a library on an external drive. Is it possible to have two libraries, one for music and the other for videos, and have iTunes keep them organized, or will I have to do it manually?
