Import settings panel missing

On selecting IMPORT, I frequently find that the panel at the right of the screen showing the destination and chosen import settings is completely blank. The only way I can get the panel back is to log off OS or restart - simply closing Aperture and restarting still gives a blank panel.
I was hoping the 3.1.1 update would have cure this but no luck.

Welcome to the Discussions!
Sounds like there may be an issue with your application preferences, follow the steps listed here to delete your preferences, Aperture 3: Troubleshooting Basics.

  • Aperture Import Settings Panels crashes.

The Aperture Import Settings panel crashes and it show you only info from the moment
you choose a location on a server called "Pictures" (same Name as the "Pictures" folder in the user folder in my case). The choose options stays on "choose" and if you click "Import Selected" you loose from now on all the option on the import on the next start of the app and even after reboot you will never have any options on the import panel. If i choose any other folder not named "Pictures" all works fine.
It seemed to me like a bug.

  • Import settings pop up menu resize handle missing

In the import window the pop up menu for import settings has the right side blocked and there is no way to resize it.

    Do you mean this menu?
What do you mean by "right side blocked"? Is it off the screen?
If that is the case, it  might be a problem of corrupted user preferences.
Remove the Aperture's user preferences from the User Library as described here:
    Aperture 3: Troubleshooting Basics   http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3805
Note:Your User Library is hidden by default in 10.7.x or later - to open it in a Finder window use the "Go" menu from the Finder's main menu bar.
Quit Aperture, if it is running. Log off and on again.
Open the user library by using the Finder's "Go > Go to Folder" menu and hold down the options-key, until "Library" appears in the drop down menu. Select it.
In the widow that will open, scroll down to "Preferences"
From the "Preferences" folder  remove "com.apple.Aperture.plist".
Then try to launch Aperture again.
But deleting the "Preferences" file will cause Aperture to forget the preferences settings. Be prepared to have to reset all options you set using the Aperture Preferences panel.

  • I keep getting the message that my registry settings are missing for importing and burning cd's and dvd's.  Why?

I keep getting the message that my registry settings are missing for importing and burning cd's and dvd's.  Why?
I've completely uninstalled iTunes per the support instructions and reinstalled.  But I still get the error message each
time I click on the iTunes icon.  I went into iTunes support and searched for registry settings and got an error message 404.
    It was no help.

    Hey JWeaver208,
Thanks for the question, and great troubleshooting so far. If you continue to see this message after uninstalling and re-installing iTunes, you may need to install the device filter in the Windows registry, as outlined in this resource:

    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3299
    Thanks,

My iTunes is telling me that the registry settings are missing for importing and burning cd's and dvd's. I have installed the latest up as well as uninstalled and then reinstalled a few times, at least 4. The registry settings are still not there and I cannot burn to a cd. HELP!!!

  • Importing settings from CS6 to CC - missed opportunity?

Setting up new Adobe CC, and too hastily clicked "no" when asked about importing settings from last version. How can I retroactively do this?

Thanks for the tip, Arpit. Unfortunately, following your directions did not yield a promt to reset the preferences. It showed a prompt to delete the PhotoShop settings file. See image below. I still do not know how to import my previous settings/plugins/etc. Any help will be appreciated.

  • How do I remove an entry from the "Store Files" drop down list in the "Import Settings" section of Aperture 3.3.2

The dropdown list "Store Files" in the "Import Settings" section of Aperture 3.3.2 displays the history of the entries previously added to the list. Some of the entries are no longer valid and I'm trying to delete them but I can't find a way to do this. This is a screenshot. Does anyone know how to do this?

Once again - the Jive system ate my bullet points and messed up the formatting
Is the MacOS X version in your signature correct? Then you cannot be using Aperture 3.3.2?
You should not be seeing duplicate entries in the "Store Files" pop-up menu. This looks like your Aperture Preferences file is corrupted and needs fixing.
Quit Aperture (and log off and on again, if you are running MacOS X 10.7 or later)
Then reveal your User Library (from the Finder's main menu bar, the "Go" menu. Hold down the options-key until the library apears in the drop-down menu)
In the Library folder select the "Preferences folder and locate the file "~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Aperture.plist"
    Now you can either
remove the com.apple.Aperture.plist file to the Desktop, to force Aperture to create a new one, but you will have to set again your Preferences from the "Preferences" panel,
or make a backup copy of the file and edit it, if you are an experienced programmer and have Xcode installed. To fix the drop-down list you need to edit the item "RecentReferenceFolders" and delete the redundant folder names. Enter "recent" into the search field to find it quickly. If you click an item in the list, plus/minus buttons should appear. But only try this, if you know how to edit property lists, otherwise it will be much safer to delete the faulty list and to set your preferences again from the "Preferences" panel.

  • Not all characters showing up in "Import Settings" dialogue

On the "Import Settings" dialogue in preferences, not all characters are shown when you select an encoder and use a custom setting.
    For example:
When you select AIFF encoder and click "Custom...", sample rate and channel is shown as "sample rat" and "channe".
Can someone tell Apple to fix this?

Sounds like you have "Compilations" switched on.
In Itunes look at "get info" for the missing artists and see if the part of a compilation box is checked.
On you iPod go to settings>compilations and toggle it to off
To get the artists to show up on the Ipod you only need to do step 2.
When you have the compiliations features switched on (in either iTunes or iPod) artists that only have albums that are compilations will not show up in the artist list.
As for your other problem you can sort the columns by clicking on the title bar at the top, to sort by artist or you can add something to the "Greatest Hits" album title to differentiate it - for example all my greatest hits albums are titled GH - Artist so I know which one is which

  • Import Settings not working

I have been trying to Import all settings from another project: File>Project Settings>Import Settings.. (all boxes) ticked - then navigate to another Logic Song and Open... nothing happens to the original.
I want to end up having imported the Midi Environment, Audio Environment and the same Arrange Page layout into the new song.
For some reason Import Settings does not do this - am I missing something?
    thanks in advance

    hi Audiophilia!
this is sometimes caused by a corrupt itunes preferences file. folks can often get their custom import settings to stick by rebuilding their preferences file. (make a note of any custom settings you have though ... the rebuild will set all preferences back to their defaults.)
although it's about a different issue, the preferences file rebuild technique is given in this User Tip:

  • High Quality Import settings not working

    Hi,
Running iTunes 6.0.4 for Windows and have completely removed and reinstalled it to try to resolve this problem.
When I go to the Importing preferences and I try to selet a "Custom..." bit rate....it always defaults back to 128kpbs. I've tried setting the AAC encoder to 192kpbs as well as the MP3 encoder. As soon as I go back into preferences, they have defaulted to 160kpbs.
What's going on here? Why won't iTunes let me use the higher bit rate settings?

  • ITunes 8 - where have all the import settings gone?

    when will they ever learn?
am I nuts - I can not find the import settings in the new iTunes -
it appears to no longer be in the "advanced" menu, or am I missing it? it just isn't there - I don't see any "burning" settings either.
    help!

right you are! I keep wishing that iT would put them on the main menu - rather than a sub or sub-sub-menu, but there are probably few iT users such as myself that frequently switch between stereo & mono.
does anyone know of a script to automatically change from stereo to mono and back? I guess it's just as easy to go into a sub-menu than run a script...
incidentally, the apple help menus have not changed yet with the new version, every thing I found kept telling me to look in "advanced" rather than general.
    thanks!

  • Lost my import settings pull down and menu

I've been having problems running Aperture....slow speed, not seeing previews...etc...
I was told to repair library data base by holding the opt+comm keys when opening Aperture.
I did a repair and was still having issues so I did a rebuild as a last resort.
Now when I try to import from my memory card I no longer have an import settings pull down or menu....essentially I cant import!
    Any suggestions?

When menu items are missing it might be a problem of corrupted preferences files or a system wide problem.
As a test: Run Aperture from a different user account, for example the Guest account. Is the "Import" manual there?
If all menues are in a different user account, delete your User Preferences, as described in Aperture 3: Troubleshooting Basics (the paragraph  "Delete the user preferences"). Log off and on again after doing that.
If the problem occurs in all accounts, reinstall Aperture.
And if that stll does not help, post back and tell us more - have you installed anything lately? Any other applications behaving strangely? Have you done any maintainance, cleaning running cleaner applications?

  • HT1473 After cd is downloaded to iTunes on my computer do I need to touch "Import Settings"?

After CD is downloaded to my computer through iTunes do I touch the "import settings" ?

While the reply you've had so far is correct, it misses the fact that the Import Settings determines which format iTunes will use to import from CD.
So to address the specific question you asked, and judging by the article you were reading (Adding music and other content to iTunes) ...
You should choose which Import Setting you are going to use to import the CD, before you begin importing.
The relevance of the Import Settings after importing is when you want to convert an existing file from one format to another. For example, suppose you import a CD using m4a (AAC) format. But you then want to to add that song to another brand of media player which cannot play m4a files. The answer would be to convert the original file to MP3 (which is a universal format). However, iTunes' convert feature converts to the format used for importing from CD. So you would need to change the format to do that; from AAC Encoder (which you used to import the CD), to MP3 - using the Import Settings. (The Import Settings implies that it's from CD and makes no reference to converting existing files). Conversion creates a second file, it does not destroy the existing AAC file.

  • Auto Import Settings needs same robust features as regular Import Photos feature...

    Hello,
It is disappointing to not be able to select the feature to auto convert RAW images to DNG as well as copy/move files to subfolders (in my case date folders) using the Auto Import Settings feature in LR 3.3.  The main intent of my usage is not for tethered shooting as the feature may have originally been setup for, but moreover to import images from my Eye-Fi Pro SD card automatically to my LR catalog.  In fact, this limitation makes the auto import completely useless for me as I have to remove the SD card and mount it (or tether camera via USB) and import standardly.  Please make a stronge effort to unite the functionality of all import functions in LR and allow the customer to choose which settings work the best for their needs.
    Thanks,
    ~David

The Eye-Fi Pro X2 (8GB) handles RAW imagery uploads, and does so in a pretty quick manner.  I have a Canon G9 that I use the Eye-Fi in and it's RAW images take about 4 seconds per 12.1 MP .CR2 image which isn't too slow for me really.  I am also right next to the access point so the wifi signal is stronger and transfers are therefore a bit faster.   I use this card also with ShutterSnitch (for iPad) and a 1DS Mark III for location shooting so the AD can monitor shots remotely on the iPad and not have to look over the shoulder at an LCD screen or through a loupe.  At any rate, I also have a few other gripes about what LR should be doing with imported images that it isn't currently that seem like big misses, but I will add these to another feature request.

  • Hello, I have a Toshiba netbook with i-tunes loaded, when I go into import settings and choose MP3,instead of AAC, it defaults back to AAC when I leave the diaglogue box.

Hello, I have a Toshiba Netbook that I just put i-tunes on and when I go into import settings, I want to change it to MP3, but when I leave the dialogue box, it defaults back to AAC. What am I missing?   Thanks.

I wonder if I'm missing that OK because the screen on this netbook is smaller  than a laptop and only supports 1024 X 600. I can't scroll that box up any, and can't grab the top and move it up. So when I exit that box I have to click the x in the top right corner.
Acck. Yes, that'll be the issue. There's an OK and a Cancel down at the bottom of the screen.
This is going to seem a weird suggestion, but it's the only thing that is springing to mind at the moment ... Do you know someone with an external monitor, or a TV that supports PC input? If so, try temporarily attaching the netbook to that. Can you do the preference change on the larger monitor?
