Import / Synch won't recognize jpgs

Since I updated my RAW plugin on Lightroom (updated to the most current version)  it will not recognize random jpgs in folders.  I have a folder with 18 jpg files and it will only recognize and import 4 of them.  I have tried synchronizing the folder and importing to folder - nothing.  I have tried moving the files around and creating new folders - nothing.  The only thing I have found that works is renaming the files but this is a hassle and I don't want to mess with my work flow doing this.  It also doesn't always work and sometimes after renaming them, syching them, getting the folder to show them, suddenly they will show as missing files for no apparent reason.
Has anyone else run into this?

Double check the list of supported images. If the JPEG is CMYK (rare, but I just saw a case) that's not supported. You'll need to use RGB JPEG files. You can have this converted to CMYK later in the workflow.

  • Lightroom 5.7 won't recognize jpgs

I recently updated to 5.7 and updated my RAW plugin and now my lightroom will not recognize jpgs as being in a folder.  The jpgs that are there are gone from the list and then they show as "missing" from library when I try to synch the folder.  I try to locate the files and there is nothing showing via lightroom - however I am in the desktop folder and they are there.     I have renamed them and re-synched - that works, but then it loses that newly named file again and I am back at square 1.  This is making me totally crazy because I don't know why it is not recognizing that these files are in the folder.
    ?? Suggestions?

    Hi,
You really need to provide a little more information such as operating system, memory etc.
Typically a error like this is happening because a background process is executing and interfering with available RAM, not enough virtual memory (Windows), out of date HW drivers or just a incomplete install.
Or, one of the biggest problems is add-ons in internet browsers.
Or, another Lightroom problem, insufficient permissions on the directory where you are importing image files to.
Please provide a little more info.

  • IPhoto '09 won't recognize .jpg images for importing.

The resulting pop-up window displays the otherwise normal images as Unix Executable Files. If I convert the .jpg to .jpg 2000, then it imports with no problems. Result is a MUCH larger file. Any fixes?

Make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home()/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
         User/Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
NOTE 2:  In Lion and Mountain Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
If the above doesn't help try the following:
1 - download Convert to JPG and Embed sRGB profile from  Toad's Cellar and drop copies of your problem files on it.  Then try importing the new jpegs that are created.

  • Iphoto image import error, (won't recognize jpeg)

Iphoto does not recognize the photos I am trying to import from my digital camera (Kodak Easyshare Z760). I have imported from this camera many, many times, but today it won't (nor will Image Capture or Preview) import. I even tried putting a new memory card into the camera in case it was the problem. I've deleted the cache and iphoto preferences (two things other discussions suggested) and still no luck. And as I said Image Capture and Preview are doing the same thing.
It does of course allow me to drag a jpeg (from the internet) and drop it into iphoto. Thanks for any help!
It's iphoto '09 and I've just updated all my software.

There are a lot of posts on the fourm about Kodaks and iPhoto. Workarounds all include reformatting the card with the camera.

  • Aperture 2 won't recognize jpg files on Canon S90 after upgrading to 10.6.3

It says there are no files to import, when in fact there are many. I have tested camera on a friends computer and the files imported perfectly (using iPhoto). Could the OS upgrade have anything to do with it? Any ideas? Thanks!

You didn't mention which camera's NEF files you were referring to.  This is important because each camera's raw file formats are different.
If it's a for a Nikon that's come out in the past year or so, Aperture 2.14 won't be able to read it - you'll need Aperture 3.
Which camera are the NEFs from?

Hello and welcome to the support community
As you know, your iPhone 5 is not compatible with our iBook G4. To get your music in iTunes from your iBook to your iPhone you would need to migrate the music files to a newer intel based Mac. A Mac which has Mac OS X 10.6 or higher installed. Then sync your iPhone 5.

  • 2 things: iPhoto isn't automatically copying all my imported photos into an iPhoto album folder AND ever since i upgraded my MacBook 120GB to Snow Leopard, iTunes won't recognize my iPhone.

So i have a 120GB MacBook that's about 4 years old (just updated to Snow Leopard--been working in Iraq, i'm a little behind).
Never had a problem with it.
I also have an iPhone 4 which i've had for about a year (up-to-date software as of about a month ago).
Never had a problem with it.
I've had iTunes for years of course (up-to-date).
    Never had a problem.
    1.
Now my iTunes won't recognize my iPhone since the Snow Leopard update.
iPhoto will recognize my phone, but iTunes won't.
Went through all the preferrences and i can't find anything that isn't set properly.
iTunes Helper is used during startup.
    Everything seems fine.
    Any help?
    2.
I use a WD external hard drive to back my Mac up every week or so.
I recently realized that half of my pictures from iPhoto are not copied to the external.
    They haven't been transfering over.
So i snooped through my folders and as it turns out, iPhoto hasn't been copying the pictures i import from my iPhone to iPhoto and saving them as .jpg files in the pictures folder (or iPhoto album or whatever) like i think it's supposed to.
My pictures folder has approx half of all my pictures in it, meaning at some point (probably 2 years ago) iPhoto stopped making the file copies of my imported pictures.
    I do not know why.
No idea how to fix it.
If i were able to fix that (with your help), would all the pictures that haven't been copied automatically copy to my pictures folder once i had the issue resolved or would there be a lot of dragging and dropping?
I've been clumsily and sloppily copying all my pictures to a new folder on my desktop and manually transferring that folder to a thumb drive (which i keep in my pocket) and my external (just so i have them in some form) in case my computer crashes or a mortar shell lands on my room and blows my computer up.
Can anyone please help me with any of this?
I can't just stoll down to the Apple store to ask the Genius Bar (I'm in Baghdad) and i don't have Apple Care so no one will help me on the phone when i call Apple.
    Thanks so much.

    hey mill1640,
Did you ever get your iPhone to register with iTunes? I just upgraded as well to Snow Leopard, and my my isn't recognized at all also.
If you did get this resolved, I would appreciate a little suggestion in the right direction.
    Many thanks,

  • Lightroom won't recognize directories or import RAW

i am unable to import RAW photographs that are already on an external drive, imported by another program via a netbook in the field. Gives no error message, just won't recognize the directories. Will recognize JPEG though. Taken with a Canon xsi. Lightroom is on an HP laptop with plenty of oomph. Have been using Lightroom v. 3.4.1 with no prior problems for thousands of photos, now all of a sudden...????
just completed installation of LR v. 3.5 and same issue: unresolved.
any help would be MUCH appreciated!

the external drive is an WD Elements that connects via USB. The directories are fine on the drive. The raw photos show as .cr2, but without a thumbnail. I'm not sure if the other program changes the file names... No -- they don't appear to be any different than the ones LR imports fromt the card...
apologies: the directories that lightroom will not recognize also contain jpegs that don't come up either. Sorry!
    thanks ;-)

  • Lightroom (4.3) won't recognize the file type while importing from Canon 5d Mark iii

Anyone mind helping me trouble shoot why my Lightroom (4.3) won't recognize the file type of my Canon 5D Mark iii ?
I have seen this in a couple other threads but none of those suggestions worked for me. I am also a Mac user.

    The above contradicts with this:

So my reading of that is that you ARE importing Raw files from the 5D3 into Lightroom, but having to use a roundabout route to do so. Is that correct? If so, how are you trying to import when you "cannot import raw files into Lightroom", are you using a card reader or direct camera attachment? Have you tried both methods? And what happens when you do try?

My first thought was that maybe when you imported you chose to leave the files  in place rather than copy then to the iMovie library..but I can't see where that option is now.
I too have created a short movie from load f clips..but can't export or share either..the 'Share 'menu is empty..you go to it and no sub menu appears.

  • Iphoto won't recognize my iphone when importing images.

I have had problems with importing images from my iphone 4s to my macbook for a while. For some reason, iphoto won't recognize any of the images on my iphone, meaning that I can't import any of them. I have tried unlocking the phone with iphoto open, with it closed and then opening it and without unlocking the phone at all. I have also updated all programs involved. Has anyone had this problem before, and if so how could I fix it? Thanks in advance! (Text in the picture is obviously Swedish, but you catch my drift.)

I figured out the fix for the Mac users having this problem. I connected my iPhone to my iMac and started iTunes. A dialogue came up in iTunes, I OK'd that and then OK'd the usual "Do you trust this Mac" that comes up on my iPhone.
Suddenly Image Capture launched itself and there were all my photos, ready to be downloaded.

  • DVD Studio Pro 1.5 Won't Recognize Any Video Files

Hello, everyone! I guess this might be a little prehistoric, but I really need help. I have the dinosaur, DVD Studio Pro 1.5, and for some reason it won't recognize any .m2v's, .mpeg's, or anything else. As I understand it, DVD Studio Pro 1.5 will only take MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 files, but whenever I use them, it says, "Error: Unknown File Type," in the Log.
Can someone help me? Perhaps there is a way to make it accept more than just MPEG-1 & 2?
    Thanks so much!

Well, I used the requirements for Widescreen NTSC in BitVice. The requirements are given in the DVD Studio Pro 1.5 manual. However, when I went to drag the file into DVD Studio Pro 1.5, the log came up and said: ERROR: 480 is not the proper height for a PAL file.
So, I knew that it must only want PAL files.
    Another problem:
To apply videos for a Motion Menu, I am supposed to click on the menu in the Graphical View, and go to "Asset" under "Picture," and select the video I want. The problem is, it won't show ANY .m2v's in the Asset drop box. It will show my Photoshop files, though. And, I'm sorry to say that those files you offered me didn't work either. (They didn't show up under the Asset drop box.)
[Thanks so much, by the way! They had NO trouble importing to DVD Studio Pro!]
Here's a picture of my computer and the missing files in the "Assets" drop box.

  • Won't recognize inserted disks

The drive in my black MacBook won't recognize an inserted CD or DVD unless it's blank. If it's blank, it asks what I want to do, but if it's a data disc of any kind - for example, the Snow Leopard install DVD - the drive takes it but as far as the OS is concerned, there's no disc in the drive.
Once I go to restart the computer, however, it sees the disk and mounts it.
    Any clues?

Hi PWolves04, the fix bobapcoed described probably won't help you because your computer still "sees" your CD drive--it just doesn't read the disks you insert. The fix makes your computer see your drive again when it has completely disappeared from "My Computer". Speaking from personal experience (I've had to replace three CD/DVD-Rom drives over the years) one of the first signs that they're dying is the inability to recognize and read disks.
If you want to try the "Fix" before you move onto other troubleshooting avenues, here is a link to one thread that discusses it:

I recommend that you search the Importing and Burning Category for entries by "toonz" for more information if you really think this will help.

  • MacBook Pro won't recognize 1TB external drive

    Hey team,
My mid-2010 MacBook Pro won't recognize my WD My Passport 1TB drive.  I was copying files from the drive to my computer when my computer went to sleep (didn't run out of power, just went to standby mode).  Turned computer back on and now it won't recognize the drive.
It is a USB 3.0 cord (computer is only USB 2.0 and the cord works with other drives) and when plugged in, the light turns on and the disk spins but isn't recognized my this or other computers (also not in Disk Utility).
Tried a handful of disk recovery programs but nothing wants to 'see' the disk plugged in.
Thanks for any and all suggestions.

Only option is to buy the SAME exact HD and swap controller boards,  or pay someone a LOT more $$$ to do the same thing.
its not soldered there, its just a controller/ SATA  "one piece"
They do that to save 50 cents in mfg. costs.
I mention your "issue" in that link.    Which is why you do NOT buy WD ext. HD.
they make the controller board and SATA card one piece.
CURRENT MFG. THAT HAVE controller board and SATA cards as one piece are :  WD USB drives, and Toshiba USB Canvio
However Toshiba didnt USED to do that, but they started doing it at the end of 2013.
    avoid those 2.
To avoid that nonsense, buy Hitachi drives in USB.
    Or, the best option:
Save money and invest in a bare hard drive backup and redundancy plan
    Its cheaper
    less fuss
more reiable, removes the nasty failure point of SATA card interfaces.
    takes up lot less space.
Bare hard drives and docks. The most reliable and cheapest method of hard drive data storage, archives, and redundancies
The best method for your data archives and redundancies, which is also the least expensive, the most reliable, and the most compact option is the purchase of naked hard drives and at least one USB 3.0 HD dock ($40 roughly).
While regarding Time Machine and your Macbook or desktop, your primary backup is best saved to a conventional USB (or Firewire / thunderbolt) hard drive inside an enclosure, the most important part of your data protection begins after your 1st / primary Time Machine / backup; and these are your secondary (most important) data storage devices, archives and their redundancies.
However bare hard drives and docks (below) also work perfectly as a Time Machine backup, this is for home use, since the docking station is certainly not very portable as a notebook Time Machine backup device should be; nor should bare HD be packed around with a notebook, rather remain at home or office.
Six terabytes of 2.5" HD pictured below in a very compact space.
Bare hard drives and docks have the lowest cost, the highest reliability, and take up the smallest storage space
    Drawbacks:
    1. Care and knowledge in general handling of naked hard drives (how not to shock a bare HD, and how to hold them properly). Not a genuine drawback.
    Advantages:
    1. By far the least expensive method of mass HD storage on a personal basis. Highest quality naked HD can be purchased in bulk very cheap.
    2. Eliminates the horrible failure point of SATA bridges and interfaces between external drives and the computer.
    3. Per square foot you can store more terabytes of data this way than any other.
    4. Fast, easy, no fuss and most simplex method of data storage on hard drives.
