Import to Final Cut X

I am trying to determine what the location of Final Cut X storage should be, but it wants to use the same disc as the applications (which I use as a system drive). iMovie allows me to store data on the dedicated drive on my MacPro, but Final Cut Pro X doesn;t seem to let me do this simple task - can this really be so?

I recommend the ripple training tutorials for FCP X. It's only $39.99 for 5 hours of QT movies, including the assets to work along with the tutorial.
The Event Library shows you the volumes connected to your Mac. If you right-click on the volume you want your assets to be located and then select Create Event, this is where your imported assets will be located if you select "Copy to Files to Final Cut Events Folder". You typically create an event for each project and then you can create folders and assign key words, etc., to organize the assets in each Event.
If you don't have that option selected, it will just leave the assets wherever you imported them from, and this can obviously be any drive you want with any folder structure you want.
Good luck.

  • Import from Final Cut Pro not working correctly

I have a very simple project in FCP. (Ver 6) It is a HD clip that is about 5 min long with 7 chapter markers.
I exported the project as an XML file and imported that into Premiere Pro empty project.
I wind up with two assets, a .mov with same name as the .mov in FCP and a sequence with the same named sequence in FCP.
Right clicking on the .mov and selecting "New sequence from clip" creates a new sequence with the .mov on the timeline.
    There are no markers.
Right clicking on the sequence asset and selecting "New sequence from clip" creates another sequence with the same name and the .mov on the timeline.
The markers are inside the .mov and audio tracks, not up on the top ruler line where markers appear when manually adding markers.
The keystrokes to move to markers do not work.
The "Clear all Markers" function is greyed out , like it is when no markers exist.
If a "Dynamic link to Encore is performed, there is no markers in Encore.
If you enter chapter markers manually and look at the project file (an XML file) you will see indexes with the chapter points , durations and names as children named "Markers" with attribute"ObjectID='22'.under "//PremiereData"
Following , in sequential order, are subsequent objects "Markers", ObjectID='23" through "ObjectID=n
However, if you look at the project file after importing a FCP project, this same function occurs, except that it is "Markers" "ObjectID=30 with the indexes and marker data 31 through n (further down in the file). This area is empty when adding the markers manually in Premiere Pro.
FYI , the project file is littered with the word "Marker" and "Markers" throughout the file, only their attributes make any node unique.
I am at 99.9 &% finished with a VB program to create / modify nodes, values and attributes, except that the XML date changes format at the node named "//WorkspaceSettings" so I am not able to edit values to make a file that will not crash when opening.
I would very much like the import from Final Cut Pro to work, or someone explain how to work with the nodes under "//WorkspaceSettings"
    Thank millions for a solution.

It's a 2007 iMac with 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo.  I had been using Final Cut Pro without any problems right until I upgraded to Yosemite.  I'm hoping that upgrading to Yosemite doesn't mean I can't continue using Final Cut Pro - that would be extremely frustrating.

  • Video quality changes when imported into Final Cut Pro

I have video files that I have imported from an external hard drive that were transferred from an HD camera. When viewing the footage directly from the hard drive, the quality is great. Once imported into Final Cut Pro, however, there are small "flares" (don't know how else to describe them) that appear for split seconds across the screen. The best way to describe it is if you are watching a television that has an antenna, there will be static or interferance on the image. This is barely noticable but I can't determine what would cause the decline in quality. My video settings are set to DV NTSC 48 kHz and wonder if this is the problem or if anyone knows of something else that I should change prior to importing.

Thank you so much for your help! I am technically challenged and STRUGGLING to say the least.
Some files are definitely H.264 and I can convert them to ProRes. I also have clips that are
    DVCPRO HD 1080p25, 1,440 x 1,080 (1,888 x 1,062)
Linear PCM, 16 bit big-endian signed integer, 2 channels, 48000 Hz
    Current Size: 1,440 × 810 pixels
Will I need to do anything to those as well?
Here is the question I'm afraid to ask because I think I know the answer already. Can I simply replace the clips in my sequence with the newly compressed ProRes files or do I have to change all of the video and sequence settings and then start all over?

  • Why wont my clips import into Final Cut Pro ?

Why wont my clips import into Final Cut Pro ?

FCP doesn't work with 3GPP, which is basically a cellphone compression format. FCP only works with media in the QuickTime framework. It only works with video in standard video frame resolutions, which 800x480 isn't, and with video that uses uncompressed audio, while yours is compressed.
Standard definition video is 720x480 at 29.97fps with uncompressed 48k audio in a production codec, which H.264 isn't; it should be either DV or DV50 or ProRes.

  • Typing text onto a Customized Slide which has been imported in Final Cut  10.0.7

Is there a way to type text onto a Customized Slide in which I imported into Final Cut Pro 10.0.7 (my operating system is Snow Leopard)?

I don't think you understand the question, I want use a slide that I generated from outside of Final Cut Pro and want to be able to modify that slide by typing text or taking text that I generated outside of Final Cut Pro and pasting it into the slide without having to import the slide into Final Cut Pro.  The reason I want to do that is because the Slides in Final Cut Pro do not do what I want it to do....I am putting large amounts of text in my presentation and to have to import each slide individually takes too much time.

  • How to Encoding MPEG Movie to be able to import into Final Cut Express

I have MPEG Movie video clips that were sent to me. Title dvdMovie1chapter26.mpg (21.6MB) given to me from a PC taken on dvd video camera and compiled on CD disk. I would like to edit in Final Cut Express 4.0. I can not import in present form. Have used HandBrake and Toast 8 to encode. Divx and AVI to grainy. Have tried to make QuickTime Movie but 21.6 MB file went to 115.6 GB. Not sure how to set QuickTime options (Formats-Audio-Video Setting) in Toast 8 to encode with good quality this file so I can import into Final Cut Express. I will not have enough disk space to do all the video clips at 110 GBs or more per file. When I drag this file into Toast 8 with DVD-Video selected the file come into Toast as a Video-MPEG-2 720x480 29.97fps and Audio- Dolby Digital, Stereo 48000Hz File. Any Ideas?

How long is the movie? DV is 3.6MB/second. Handbrake is no good for this. I don't know if Toast will do it, but you can try MPEG Streamclip. You want to export to QuickTime using the DV NTSC codec at frame size of 720x480 and 29.97fps.

  • Can i export an Imovie project with special effects as a quick time movie then import into final cut express keeping the special effects?

Hi, Can i export an Imovie project with special effects as a quick time movie then import into final cut express keeping the special effects?

Absolutely.  Go to File->Export->QuickTime Movie (do NOT use QuickTime Conversion).  Make sure you check the Self-Contained box.  The export will be an exact copy of your Sequence, complete with any filters or other effects you've added.  Import the self-contained movie back into the project (or another project) if needed.

  • Capture with QT import to Final Cut ?

Capturing video from DVCAM deck with Quicktime 7 is a breeze- speedy and efficient - however trying to import the clips into Final Cut brings error messages ( frame rate etc ). Only way is to re export the moviefrom QT then re import into Final Cut taking valuable export time and negating the reason for doing this in the first place. Anyone any answers ? Also why is QT capturing with a variable frame rate ( not locked ? ) and can ANY application read these "captured" movies or are they just QT dependent ?
    Interested in any comments/solutions/workrounds?
    Thanks

I tested it and Device Native with a DV feed gives an MOV with a DV/DVCPRO - NTSC, 28 megabit track. It also stores a sound track which is PCM 16 bit 48KHz track. That's with a Hollywood Bridge converter.
With an HDV camera doing HDV/DV, the track is the same type, but how the picture looks depends on the camera setting. It can either be letterboxed or anamorphic. Curiously the bit rate is different for the two, with letterbox being the usual 28 megabits, but the anamorphic is 21 megabits.
In any case, QuickTime Player does an awesome job of recording native DV. However, sure enough FCP complains saying that it's a unknown file type. iMovie brings it in but has to convert it first.
I'll ask the authorities about this...

  • Audio popping between clips with timeline imported from final cut xml file

So i imported a final cut timeline that was synced with pluraleyes into adobe and between all the cuts there is an audible popping noise. I've tried using audio cross fade but it seems to make it worse. How can I fix this??

If anyone else has this problem - you fix it by making sure you pan the audio to the center, not left or right.

  • How can I restart media import in final cut pro?

The operation of background activities on Final Cut Pro is often convenient, except when an import gets interrupted by an inadvertant media removal.   I usually have multiple SD cards connected to my Mac doing imports, and if I have more media than I have adapters/slots to connect them with, I will invariably unplug the wrong card, and interrupt an import that is in progress.  When I put the card back in, there is nothing that I can see to "restart" the import of that media where it left off at, or at least start over, and overwrite any incomplete files.  Instead, it seem that I need to import the card into a new event, and then use finder to then move the media files into the old event folder structure.  Only then, can I get something that seems to work.
Is there some other way to reliably restart the import, or otherwise force the import to actually work?  It seems that if I try to import to the same event, again, I see the animation of the closing file selection dialog toward the events, but the background tasks window shows no activity, and I don't see anything ever complete as an import.
This, also blocks any attempt to "share" the project too, because it keeps complaining about an import which has not finished, and thus the project is still referencing "media on the camera" .  That limitation has got to go away too! I really want to construct my project, share it, and move on.  Waiting for media to "import" when I actually can construct the project with the preliminary media view doesn't make sense.  Even if importing needs to happen for conversion/rendering for the share, just do that in the background.  Let me say "share", and go do something else with my time!
I have submitted feedback on this, but if anyone has pointers of simplifying import from SD cards that would be great!

Select the photos you want rotated, open the Inspector (command-4). In the Video section of the Inspector, hover your mouse near the Transform and click show if it's not already open. The rotation setting is in there.

Thank you Tom... is there a way to export the file in a readable format from FCP? It seems there is a codec for HDV720p30 but not p24... I was told when I ought FCE that it would be able to transfer files from one format to the next. Is this a lie?
