  • I can't drag and drop iTunes music files into Roxio Jam 6 anymore and, now I have to import music one song at a time by using the " " or "-" buttons on the bottom. What is going on? G5 Dual 2 Ghz and OS 10.4.11

Hi. I have not used Roxio Jam for quite a long time and I just wanted to make a few CDs. Jam used to work easily and well. I have a problem. I can't drag and drop iTunes music files anymore and, now I have to import music one song at a time by using the "+" or "-" buttons on the bottom. What is going on? I trashed the preferences file and restarted Jam to no avail. I also have selected that Jam should open files with iTunes in the Jam preferences. I have a G5 DP 2Ghz PPC  machine with OS 10.4.11, iTunes 9.2.1 and Quicktime's version is 7.6.4. I have 2 GB of RAM and the machine has dual 1.25 Ghz. processors plus a 500 GB HD. Can anybody give me any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance,

    I found an solution.
Uninstalling AirParrot as well as the two offending AirParrotDriver.kext and APExtFramebuffer.kext files in System>Library>Extensions was the fix. All problems disappeared.

(By the way, would I need to use also the red and white phono cables also to get sound?)
Yes, S-video cables do not carry sound.
When you import 16:9 into DV Widescreen, make sure that you have UNchecked 'automatic letterboxing'.

  • Importing to iTunes moves previously proper files to unknown folder.  Metadata missing inside of iTunes.  Help!

I've been having problems with iTunes for a long time now and have yet to find the solution.
I store my complete library on my external hard drive.  When I import a CD into the iTunes on my Mac that had previously been imported on another computer, my iTunes refuses to recognize the artist and album information.  It only recognizes the track number and track name.
I had imported tracks on a PC in WMA format, and converted them using iTunes on my PC to WAV.  They showed up in my iTunes on my PC just fine that way.  I then copied the new WAV files in their proper Artist/Album/Tracks folders from my PC's iTunes Media folder to my external drive.  When I import those files now on my external drive to iTunes on my Mac, the files move to Unknown Artist folder on my external drive.  I've got preferences set to place files in my external drive's music folder.  What can I do differently?
I've tried "Keep iTunes Media folder organized" which then immediately takes files out of my organized locations and moves them to the Unknown Arist folder even when I'm not importing.  I've also tried "Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library."  I tried just importing directly from a flash drive hoping it would copy files that were moments ago recognized correctly on my PC's iTunes to my external drive's Music folder correctly.  Doesn't work.  Still imports songs to iTunes with no artist or album data and places them in the annoying Unknown Artist folder on my external drive.
When I import a disc directly to iTunes (sending it to the computer's iTunes Media folder when my external isn't connected), it recognized the data correctly.  Then if I connect my external and copy the files from the computer's internal drive to my external Music folder, delete the files in iTunes, and then import the files from their new location, they are then unrecognized as having Artist and Album information.  A few years ago I had no issue moving files this way and everything stayed organized.  I'm guessing Apple fudged something up in an update?
What the heck?  Is there a different program I could use (whether on PC or Mac) that would import the disc information and keep the metadata attached and fix my issues?  I eventually will need to transfer my external drive's files to another drive, as externals are not permanent storage solutions, so when I eventually import all my music in iTunes again I won't have the time or the energy to rename every track independently.  Why doesn't the information recognized by iTunes remain associated with that file when I move the file to another location and reimport to iTunes?
Any help would be sincerely appreciated.  This has been a long struggle for me with no answers and my music collection is extremely important to me.

There have many reports here of large adds not running to completion. Sometimes it will die on a certain troublesome file, and sometimes there is no obvious reason.
Since you have verified that the individual files seem to be fine, the workaround is to add the folders in smaller batches.

  • I have some dts cd's that I want to import into itunes on a windows pc and then play back on my apple tv 3 (i think its 3, about 9 months old) to listen to through my onkyo amp via hdmi as dts, when I play back I just get white noise.

I have some dts cd's that I want to import into itunes on a windows pc and then play back on my apple tv 3 (i think its 3, about 9 months old) to listen to through my onkyo amp via hdmi as dts, when I play back I just get white noise. I have seen lots of old posts which go on about converting files but am wondering wherher at the current time with the latest versions of itunes and apple tv whether this should by now be a virtual play out of the box solution.
I have tried connecting my atv to the amp by optical cable but that didnt produce anything better and am assuming that a hdmi cable should be able to reproduce everything an optical cable does.
Is this something I should be able to achieve without having to recode the files?
Tracks are imported to itunes as apple lossless, have tried setting the atv audio settings to auto and 16 bit, neither works yet I was told some time ago by an apple rep that the atv shoud be able to handle any type of audio as it just passes it to the amp to decode. I am not stupid but not that technical when it comes to audio and bitrates etc so any explaination would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance for any help

Willy, the procdedure you describe works perfectly for AppleTV G1. In fact, I frequently play DTS music discs ripped to my iTunes library as Apple Lossless (ALAC) and synched to the ATV. What happens is that, as far as iTunes and the ATV are concerned, a conventional stereo 16/44 audio file is being played; however my reciever detects the DTS data stream, and instead of outputting static, it decodes the 5.1 channels correctly. This process parallels the way DTS discs were designed to be played back: a conventional CD player is connceted, via digital out, to a DTS-aware reciever/pre-amp and the two channels of static are recognized as 6 channels of DTS-encoded audio.
However this process will only work if the player (CD, ATV, PC, etc.) sends a "bit-perfect" 16 bit/44.1 khz data stream to the decoding device. In the case of ATV G2 and G3, as has been discussed elsewhere, the unit resmaples all audio - including 16/44 PCM (Redbook CD)  - to 16/48. While this is not a big deal for conventional audio CDs, MP3s, and AAC files, it mangles the fragile DTS datastream and renders it undecodable. The resulting static that you hear is just like the static you would hear if you played a DTS CD on a non-DTS capable system.
Sadly, I'm not aware of any easy way around this. You could use a program like Foobar (and the DTS plugin) to convert your DTS CDs to 6-ch .wav or .flac file. From there you could transcode the file to AC-3 and then mux it into a video container that ATV supports. You may need add a dummy video track, for iTunes/AppleTV to be ok with the file, though I'm not sure. This may be a lot of work.
Sorry for the bad news. I wish that the iTunes/ATV ecosystem had better multi-channel audio support.

  • Is there a way to create a smart playlist that lists my top 25 plays from a specific time period (i.e. - top plays from the last 90 days)?

Is it possible to create an itunes smart playlist that lists my top 25 most played songs in a specific time period (i.e. - the last 90 days)?  It seems that any "most played" list I create counts every spin a track has had in it's history of being in my library.

The challenge is is not to determine which of the tracks that have been played in the last X days has been played most since the beginning of time, but which have been played most in the last X days. iTunes can do the first one but it simply doesn't have the power to do the second.

  • In setting up my ICal calendar I have specific times (as new events) that I want to be included in the print out.  This doesn't happen.

In setting up my ICAL calendar I have specific times (as new events) for each day.  When it prints out the time does not show up (rather its a bar).  I would like the time for each appointment to print out. How do I do this?

These are two possible approaches that will normally work to move an existing library to a new computer.
    Method 1
Backup the library with this User Tip.
Deauthorize the old computer if you no longer want to access protected content on it.
Restore the backup to your new computer using the same tool used to back it up.
Keep your backup up-to-date in future.
    Method 2
Connect the two computers to the same network. Share your <User's Music> folder from the old computer and copy the entire iTunes library folder into the <User's Music> folder on the new one. Again, deauthorize the old computer if no longer required.
Both methods should give the new computer a working clone of the library that was on the old one. As far as iTunes is concerned this is still the "home" library for your devices so you shouldn't have any issues with iTunes wanting to erase and reload.
I'd recommend method 1 since it establishes an ongoing backup for your library.
Note if you have failed to move contacts and calendar items across you should create one dummy entry of each in your new profile and iTunes should  merge the existing data from the device.
If your media folder has been split out from the main iTunes folder you may need to do some preparatory work to make it easier to move. See make a split library portable.
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library or a backup then then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device for advice on how to set up your devices with a new library with the maximum preservation of data.

  • Importing more than one at a time

when I try to use the option to import files that are on my computer already it only allows me to do one at a time I have tried both a shift and a control key to try to get more than one file at a time and it does not work so from what I have read i used the add folder option to add music to my library. the problem is then that if I want to try to "get CD Track names" it says this can only be used on files that were imported in iTunes please try importing the file again. I do not want to have to do a file at a time just to use some of the fetures is there a easier way?

Either use finder to drag and drop those tracks onto
"Library" in iTunes' left "Source" column or from
iTunes Menu Files use "Add to Library ..." then
navigate to a folder that keep a yoru tracks and
    select that folder.
This did it! I was doing an "import" which would only let me do one song at a time. But the "add to library" and the drag and drop both worked. Thanks!!!

  • Create a daily report that shows IIS App Pool and Site States/Health at a specific time.

    Hi All,
I need to create a report that will be sent out by 6AM everyday to a DG. The report needs to show the Health / State of selected Application Pools, Sites, and Windows services running on ~20 production servers. The servers show up
in SCOM just fine. ('Application Pool State', 'Web Site State', etc.) I can see what I need in the Monitoring view, but did not find a way to create the report I need in Reporting or Authoring.
I've looked through the documentation and the forums and have not found what I need...at least I don't think so.  I just did not see how I can capture the Health/State at a specific time for the selected Objects and send out
    the results.
Seems like this would be a common request. Basically, we just need to know that our web applications are running before the start or business, without manually logging in to each server and typing a report.
I've scripted some of what we need with WMI/PowerShell, and piped out to an email. The problem is that several of our servers our locked down or don't have the appropriate components installed to work with remote scripting. (don't ask...life in a
    big corporation!)
Since we have SCOM installed throughout the network, I am hoping it will get us the info we need. Any help or ideas would be very appreciated!
    Thanks in advance!!!
    ~ noob

    Hello Zrider,
Well, first of you need to make sure you have the Reporting feature installed on SCOM.
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh298611.aspx
Next, try navigating to the Reporting node, then go to the Microsoft Generic Library report folder and open the Health report.
    Now, select Object.
Click Options in order to select the required Classes. Type 'Application Pool' for example. Select the version you want and click OK.
Now, click Search. Select the instances you want.
Go back to Options and type and select the class 'Web Site'. Apply the filter then Search. Repeat the process for any other class/instance you want then click ok.
Run the report. If the information displayed is the one you want, go to the top left area, click File, Schedule.
    Done.
This is one way. You've mentioned using powershell with wmi but probably you are using PS remoting to the targets and of course not all hosts are enabled for remoting, or some might run Windows Server 2003 withouth powershell installed.
An alternative would be to run a PS script against the SCOM server and send the reports via email. This works even if you don't have the SCOM Reporting role installed!
    You could do something like:
    Import-Module OperationsManager
    $WebSiteClass = Get-SCOMClass -DisplayName "Web Site"
    $IISAppPoolClass = Get-SCOMClass -DisplayName "IIS Application Pool"
    $WebSites = Get-SCOMClassInstance -Class $WebSiteClass
    $IISApps = Get-SCOMClassInstance -Class $IISAppPoolClass
$WebSites | select IsAvailable, HealthState, Path, DisplayName
$IISApps | select IsAvailable, HealthState, Path, DisplayName
That will get you the basic info you need to setup an array and send them through email.
    I hope that helps.

  • CD's no longer detected by computer after failed import into iTunes

I had been successfully importing CD's into itunes for a long time. On this particular occasion, itunes only imported part of a CD and then froze. Since that time, my computer cannot detect the presence of CD's at all. While the drive itself shows up, it will not play music CD's or read data CD's. Strangely, it will still play DVD's from the same drive. I have tried all of the troubleshooting steps I know to do. I'm bewildered as to where to go from here. Some expert advice would be greatly appreciated!

  • I just imported my Itunes Library to a new laptop from an External HD with Windows 8 but it does not load my playlists on my Iphone?  Is this solveable?  Would hait to re-build the playlists

My old laptop crashed but I had my Itunes Library backed up to an external HD.  I've managed to import my Itunes Library from the HD but none of my old play lists appear on in Itunes.  I tried syncing to my Iphone 4S that has the playlists to no avail.  Ideas and solutions welcome

" When I did this, my library showed all the music I have "purchased" from itunes but did not have the music that I downloaded a long time ago through itunes from my old CDs."
    Correct.
" How can I get that music to show up in my library now on my new computer?  "
Copy it from your old computer or your backup copy of your old computer.
The sync is one way - computer to ipod.

  • ITunes Music files on time machine back up

I am having an issue locating my iTunes files on my time machine. I recently purchased an SSD, but because it was so much smaller than my initial HD, I didnt include my iTunes library in the install for the new SSD. I would like to use some of my iTunes music that I have for a small film project I'm putting together but I can't seem to find the actual files on my time machine. Any help I can get in finding these owuld be really appreciated.
I do have the older backups for my larger HD on my time machine still, so the music has to be in there somewhere is what I am thinking.

Admittedly, I am not a genius on all things Time Machine, but it seems to me that unless you have specifically excluded a drive/volume which stores your iTunes library, Time Machine is backing up everything.
What reason do you have for being concerned that Time Machine is not backing up your music?

    Hello Robert,
First, Safe Boot , (holding Shift key down at bootup), use Disk Utility from there to Repair Permissions, test if things work OK in Safe Mode.
Then move these files to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.desktop.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.recentitems.plist
    Reboot & test.
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.
